I'm on day 5 of the worst flu that I've ever had. I was in Vegas last week for a conference. Went with around 25 people from work and so far, I'm the only one who's sick 🙄. Fever, chills, sore throat, headache, body aches, sensitive skin, and coughing. Best of luck to all of you out there battling this virus.
why is it that it only attacks one person in packed with? the same thing happened to me at a local party and out of all my friends i was with none of them got the sickness smh
As someone who has a history of migraines, a flu headache was perhaps the most intense headache I've ever had. Thank God that is over. God bless those who are still struggling 😊

@vT_Haunt Sorry to hear that. It took me about a week. The first three or four days were perhaps the most painful, given the excruciating headache. After that, however, the symptoms became more mild and bearable. Hang in there and get some rest. It will be over soon. : )
Same!! The flu headache is the absolute worst!!! However mine felt more like a migraine intense sharp shooting pains on my left side temple Area non stop throbbing I won’t to emergency because I felt it could be a aneurysm it was that bad! Prayers to all suffering 🙏🏾
I believe I have the flu right now. Started with scratchy throat Tuesday night, Wednesday morning I had sore throat, mucus, chills, fever of 100.3, body aches, headache. Thursday I started to get congestion & cough. Today is Friday & it was hard to get out of bed. Felt like I got hit by truck. It hurts to cough. My back & ribs hurt. I also started getting sweats & chills. I haven't had the flu in over 20 years. I think I ate too much fast food, desserts & sodas since Thanksgiving, so lowered my immune system. Also ran out of mushrooms a month ago. Need to get back to my paleo, low carb lifestyle.
I am bedridden with flu b. I have asthma and an at risk for severe disease. But when my 11 month old got sick, he needed me to comfort him, hold him, and make him feel ok. So I took the risk…for him. Now I feel like I may have to go to the hospital. But no regrets, that’s the job. That’s what being daddy is about. Pray for me, please. 🙏
As a cancer survivor myself, I hv a weak immune system. I’ve not had a flu in years UNTIL this past week. I was literally in so much pain in my stomach I was screaming in pain. I was so weak I could barely stand. It began with a uti which landed me in the ER. I believe I got the flu from there. The ER was packed, Dr’s were overwhelmed and were mean! Stay away from the ER is my advice.

Enough sleep (5:24) #4 through #6 should be your normal routine at all times, even when you're not sick. Along with vaccination, these steps help with prevention as well. Even if you woke up in an alternate universe with NO infectious diseases, #4 through #6 should still be part of your normal routine. I've been avoiding all junk foods and restaurant foods due to the pandemic. Although I made a limited return to them in October (which I wouldn't have done had it not been for my updated COVID booster in September), I'm once again fully avoiding all junk foods and restaurant foods for the third consecutive winter. Some things taste better than skinny feels, but NOTHING tastes better than healthy feels. Other suggestions from me: 7. Get enough Vitamin D: I supplement with Vitamin D3 to keep my blood Vitamin D level in the upper part of the normal range (60 to 80 ng/mL). 8. Eat fruits containing enzymes: These are the fruits that do NOT belong in jello but do belong in your diet. It's said that these enzymes (which break down proteins into amino acids) fight inflammation and may even have antiviral properties. I eat pineapple, papaya, kiwi fruit, and a fig nearly every day. The first three are available at Aldi and other grocery stores. Trader Joe's has dried figs. 9. Eat probiotic foods: This includes yogurt, kefir, natto, and probiotic sauerkraut. (Sorry, the sauerkraut made with added vinegar does not count.) I treat probiotic foods as an essential food group and consume at least a modest amount a few times per day. 10. Antiviral nasal spray: You can buy Xlear, or you can make your own cheaply with distilled water, salt, xylitol, and grapefruit seed extract. I've added this to my daily routine. Xylitol is said to reduce viral loads by making it more difficult for viruses to attach to cells. While other precautions are essential and more proven, NONE of them do anything about viruses in the stagnant environment of your nasal passages.
I think one of the best things we can do is have these OTC medications in your house, ready to go should you get sick. Nobody wants to go to the store when you are sick with the flu, it is indeed awful stuff
After two weeks of hard core symptoms, I'm finally feeling better. Everyone in my house, me, hubby and 2 sons (20 and 17) are just now getting over it. The body aches after a coughing fit was intense and it just seemed to go on forever. Nothing to mess with. I'm glad we are on the other side of it now.

I've had the flu for two days and my body aches were out of this world. I could barely stand up. I saw this video when it was first uploaded, and realized I was taking acetaminophen instead of ibuprofen. I switched and feel so much better now. Thank you.
Yes, I've only had actual influenza 2x in my life but both times were awful. OxyContin did NOTHING for the muscle/bone pain. I was lucky enough to have a bottomless supply during my 2016 bout of the flu but WOW did it not help. My cousin's son got a rare sleep disorder from influenza A; his whole life has been turned upside down. We now know narcolepsy is autoimmune & can be triggered by flu after it was caused by a batch of Pandemrix flu shot in 2009 in Sweden. Avoiding flu or minimizing your exposure is really important.
My temperature was 103 and I’m 36 years old and my heart rager was 138 and did not go done without pain medication or two bags of IV fluids… do not let your fever run its course ppl die from the flu!! A high temperature is a sign of illness
@@AleashaLatrease You are correct! a high fever is a sign of illness. You body's metabolism increases (hence the fever and increased heart rate) to fight off the infection. Our Bodies are amazing!
1.) Stay tf HOME & in bed, not at work/school/the grocery store where you're spreading your illness to everyone & their immunosuppressed grandma. Rest is best for you & protects everyone around you. Getting everyone else sick doesn't benefit your workplace or school regardless of what your boss/teacher might think. Make your health (and that of your child!) a priority.
Some people can't "stay tf home" 😒 because there's no one to take their place at whatever they have to do whether it's simply running errands or working etc don't assume everyone has the option/ can afford to do that cause right now I'd love to rest all day with this fever I have but I'm running out of food, live alone and there's no delivery service where I live so I must go get whatever I need by myself.. what I can do though is interacting with people as little as possible and maintain distance etc that's doable and kind of common sense
Monolaurin is indeed the ultimate life saver, but make sure that you get only the Abs Pure Monolaurin as they are the first and only brand that comes with pure Monolaurin without any of the harmful additives such as silicon, silica, stearates, rice filler etc. Try it, you will be glad you did and post a reply here so that others can benefit from it as well.
I didn’t get a flu shot this year and got hit with a bad cold. I was in bed and could not do anything for 3 days. Only time I got up was to go to the restroom or eat. Even taking a shower was a struggle for me. I do cardio everyday and strength training 2 days a week and good with my diet (in general), and take vitamins regularly.
@@wisconsinfarmer4742 it’s been years since the last time I got tested and it was really low. My doctor told me to take 2000 IU everyday which I’ve been doing since.
@@whereisnemo9272 I was in top shape similar to your regimen and influenzaB laid me low for weeks. My vitD was single digits, Then I started 5000/day. When I got covid it was a mild 2-3dAY EVENT.
@@wisconsinfarmer4742 I caught covid too back in July. That wasn’t as bad as I thought. Although it was comparable to the cold that I caught recently. I would hope my vitamin D level is at normal level since I’ve been taking supplements for at least 5 years. In addition to that, I also take Zinc and B complex (all from Costco 😊). Only thing I could think of that made me sick longer is my age. I’m 47 and in perimenopause. Which is why I have been keeping up with cardio and added strength training not too long ago. My doctor wouldn’t let me take hormones, so I needed to find a way to help the symptoms.
I got over the flu a few days ago but now I’m going thru something that has me worried, I don’t have an appetite I barely want to drink anything outside of water, I got aches all over my body but no fever. When I try to eat I’ll eat a few bites then I don’t want it anymore and it could even be one of my favorite foods. All I wanna do is drink water and nothing else
The flu is waaaaaay harsh this year! I went to my doc and got my flu vaccine and as the nurse was injecting me an employee called me and asked me to come in an relieve him because he was very sick. I went to the office and sent him home. The next day, I developed a little cough and the following day, it hit me like a train. Fever, chills and body aches. My BP was elevated and my heart rate was up in the 90s. I just treated it symptomatically and in four days, everything seemed to get better. My fever broke then came back then finally broke for good. My heart rate returned to the normal 60s and my BP returned to normal. I thought I had kicked it. About eight hours later the coughing became relentless as I felt it settling in my lungs. It was brutal. I ended up in the ER the night before Thanksgiving and the kept me overnight in the hospital for respiratory therapy. I'm still coughing because the flu left me with post-infection Bronchitis. Things are getting better daily now but I have not been this sick in 20 years. My flu shot didn't protect me because it didn't have time to build any immunity before I was exposed. This must be a VERY bad flu strain because I know of two other people with similar stories who both ended up in the hospital. The flu is no joke this year. Get your flu shot!
Were they both vaccinated too? My husband and 3 of my children had influenza last month and it knocked them on their butts for 24-36hrs but aside from my husband all of my kiddos recovered quickly. It def hit my husband the hardest but he is overweight and has beginning stages of COPD (thanks to burn pits) and none of us are vaccinated. Also worth noting is my one son and I did not get the flu and I was the one that was sleeping with my little ones. I was sure I would get it since they were coughing in my face all night long but I think I must have had previous immunity 🤷♀️
@@meganplacidi4919 I've been very healthy so I was surprised that the flu hit me so hard. I know of a couple of other people who were also hospitalized with influenza so I know it's not just me. I would not wish it on anyone.
@@chuckmurray1825 Being "very healthy" helps you recover, not avoid illness, right? The flu is the flu. It's horrible and people forget how horrible. Having previous immunity is what helps you avoid it. I think a lot of people mix these two things up and that's why not enough people got vaccinated and caused this huge surge!
I've had quite a few bouts of flu over the decades of my life, and this isn't as bad as I've had previously. I suffer with chronic asthma & I'm in hospital many times with severe asthma attacks. I had flu when I was 19, which was the most terrible. I couldn't get out of bed. My boyfriend called the doctor, and he gave me an injection to slow my heart rate and help me sleep. It took me about 4 months to recover and I had to have supplements to help my body fight it.
Tamiflu caused serious ulceration in my mouth and throat pretty quickly after starting it, known as Steven’s-Johnson’s syndrome. Pay attention to that. It may be rare, but it can be fatal. Also, I knew DMT, Dextromathorphan, didn’t agree with me but when I got COVID, my doctor said, “go ahead and take it every 12 hours. Desperate, I did that. I awoke one morning feeling euphoric, then horribly nauseated. I started toward the bathroom where I had an anti nausea medication. Weak, I went to my knees trying to open the package and passed out. Never happened before. My wife is a nurse. She took my blood pressure every few minutes because it was low and kept dropping. It got so low she was going to call the squad. I was still feeling very sedated and really didn’t care that I was in danger of losing consciousness again. At that point, I became alarmed and my BP started recovering. Moral of this is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! It tells you if something agreed with you or not.
Me , my husband and our five yr old is sick. I took a covid test, which came back negative. The dr prescribe these and for me and my husband. I read all the side effects and it really scared me. I have no taken them. I’ve been drinking water, coconut water, vit C packets, Orange juice and lemon ginger tea with probiotics and a multivitamin and Tylenol for body aches. I pray everyone gets well and healthy in Jesus Holy name as well as my family. I have been sweating something out but I don’t have a fever not a slight headache.❤❤❤
Since going keto/paleo over 2yrs ago, I haven't had a regular cold or flu since. Got over covid within a week followed by a lingering cough now and then for two weeks. No medical intervention, just good diet.
I’ve had flu twice that I can know of and the last thing I wanted was to eat anything! Chicken broth, maybe, or just herbal, caffeine-free, tea. I think the body tells us when to eat again, the appetite comes back.
I’m down bad with the flu right now. It’s no joke and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. At it’s peak, it was horrible! Thought I was dying. Praying for better days.
I’m on day 5 of the flu right now. I don’t even feel like I’m getting any better. I had the flu a couple other times years ago, for some reason this time seems way worse. And my back is killing me!!!
@ That’s how I felt…’When will it ever end?’…i finally did go back to work and resume my daily routines like about 10 days later, but really still felt like the wind was kicked out of me the first few days back at work. It literally felt like i needed an extra week to really regain my energy. I also had a lingering cough afterwards. I was well enough to go back to work after about 10 days… but all in all, even with all the residual symptoms I’d say I really began feeling completely ‘myself’ again, not until maybe 3 to 3.5 weeks afterwards. You’ll get there… and maybe you’ll get there even sooner than that. Just hang in and keep your fluids up. Drink a lot of water and juice, and try to have some food in your system, also rest any chance you get. ❤️
Got it first time this year, 3 days of 40C is no fun, then 2 days 39C, now back to normal. Sweating at night like I’d be swimming… coughing, headache, generally lousy feeling and blocked lungs with much mucus…
I am 16 and have a very bad FLU. Exams started yesterday. But with the help of Bhagwan, I am gonna heal like Wolverine. And give exams. Best luck to all my other fellas suffering. We'll rock this....
Same thing. Just happen overnight. Went to bed early woke up with massive congestion in sinus. Dark yellow mucus. Strong dry sore throat, fatigue, and headache. 2nd day now much better after taking about 24 grams vitamin C powder(spread throughout day), vitamin D, lime water, salt gargle mouth rinse. The worse part is the appetite and taste. It's coming back but food does not taste as good.
@@DoctorMikeHansen Happy Holidays too, dr Hansen! I'm using palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) daily. It helps preventing flu, or curing it faster when you have it. Recent research even showed good results with Covid. PEA is researched a lot and has no side effects.
I used to take a flu shot every year when I drove a school bus and I got sick every year! When I retired, i stopped! I do get sinus colds, but I've never had the flu.
None of this was new, but it was a good reminder. I’m currently on day three of flu B. It’s no joke. It may not be as bad as A, but I’ve felt pretty stinking bad. Ibuprofen has been a lifesaver, just as it was with C19.
About twenty years ago, I was the only one in our family of four to get the influenza vaccine one fall. My sons were in high school. Neither had any chronic health problems. Both were competitive swimmers, in excellent condition. One after another, both sons and then my wife got influenza. It put each of them in bed for a few days with fever, chills, cough, fatigue. Our house is small and I made no attempt to isolate from them. Despite being exposed to three active cases in a row, I emerged unscathed. The vaccine can work very well! I’ve been getting them regularly for at least 25 years now and have never had a reaction worse than a sore arm.
Hey, wassup with having covid home test easily available, but no flu or RSV tests? Went to clinic and they only do covid test. Wouldn't antiviral help if flu test is easily available instead of waiting for test at the emergency room?

I've been sick 4 times in the last 8 years... The worst I've flu I've ever got was in the middle of summer after I took a flu shot. Maybe it's just me, but I don't do flu shots anymore and get sick less often.
I always feel much better after having a bowl of hot soup! I'll have a bowl two or three times a day when I have Cold or Flu symptoms, and they never get that bad.
I get my flu vaccine, and it has really reduced any symptoms I get. previously when I got the flu I felt like I was dying. DM actually works on severe coughs for me if I have fluid behind it but not dry coughs. Lots of water. Tylenol in smaller doses like 500 mg every 6-8 hours for the worst of the flu, and I hibernate for 2-3 days. Colds last forever with me. I will cough for up to 5-6 weeks after catching one, even with my inhalers. I grew up catching everything, including at least once a year being diagnosed with bronchitis.
What if you have chronic gastritis and duodenal inflamation? Whats the best way to take paracetamol or nurofen? Can i take paracetamol on an empty stomach?
How about Nebulizer? Nebulizing iodine, and distilled water at the right dosing helps clearing out the airways and fight bad thing in those airways, right? I’m surprise you don’t mention nebulizers.
HELLO!! Dr. Mike, thanks appreciate your information, greatly appreciated your the best. Have a wonderful great rest of your day, and your upcoming weekend as well.💯💯❤❤😊😊
So I got sick last week. I felt body aches on Sat. I felt a little tight in the lungs on Sunday, but generally I felt okay. Then Monday I got SICK. It didn’t come on as fast as Inthought the flue would. I tested negative for Covid a couple of times and then tested negative for flu. BUT I had a fever for about 36 hours on and off and got laryngitis - which I only had once in my life and that was with H1N1. It’s been 7 days and I am better but still very sick. What do you think about the efficacy of flu tests CVS might use? Is it still possible it is the flu? I am exposed to everything as a teacher… meanwhile, the cough is horrible (but my O2 is fine). Who knew the human nasal passages could hold so much mucus? Yikes. I’ve had ALL the vaccinations. This is a tough winter.
A question: Our large family receives a gift of a 50 pound box of grapefruit each holiday season, and family really 'pigs out', even while trying to recover from Covid or flu (RSV too). We don't particularly take more meds than most families, but I am concerned about cautions about eating a lot of grapefruit along with periods of taking drugs. My concerns are not received very well, since I point out this potential problem each time we get the gifted box of grapefruit... so, I am wondering just how well-founded my concern might be?
What works for me is chips, dried cranberries/any dried berry and water. It’s really weird I know, but it works for me when I feel like I’m gonna die from the flu. I don’t even question it, if it works it fking works and it works fast.
I get sick at least 3 to 4 times a year. Coughs and colds and flu sometimes 2x during winter . There's nothing I can do I'm so used to it. But I find sweating it out works best on the day the flu is at its peak [ the day you feel you have to stay in bed and nothing else ]
With meds flu recovery take about a week... Without flu meds recovery time is usually only 7 days... You can pick. However sunshine D, C, Zn, enough sleep, flueds and a propper diet plays a huge role in the severety of the illness.
great concise info....perhaps future vlog on the ?positive role of mild outdoor exercise (walking the dog, walking to grocery store) while in the throws of a cold, flu.... Seems body may need some level of locomotion to push fluids around the system...
Hi Dr. Mike, I love your videos. I think the rebound congestion effect is from taking Afrin for more than 2 days, not from taking oral decongestants such as pseudoephedrine. All Afrin sprays even say on the carton not to take for more than 2-3 days. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the video. However, your Sudafed picture will be confusing to viewers and is one of my pet peeves. You talked about taking pseudoephedrine, however, you put up a picture of Sudafed OTC (phenylephrine). The are completely different medications and it’s important to note that the medication you mentioned Sudafed with pseudoephedrine is behind the pharmacy counter. Pseudoephedrine is not over the counter and will need to be purchased from the pharmacy staff directly. Thanks again for the video!

Most employers now have terrible leave policies that encourage employees to work when they’re infectious. Otherwise, those sick days come out of one’s vacation time. This should be changed, people should stay home from work, or school, when they’re sick with such contagious diseases.

One rat anecdote: for respiratory and/or sore throat--breathe in hot air--duration depends on severity and/or breathe in small amts of isopropyl alcohol (kills viruses on contact--see gov. year 2000 february covid study. Swallow wad of tooth paste to kill viruses in throat and early stomach flu. The forgoing have worked for me every single time since year 2020 for respiratory. For flu have experimented with stack of 3 garlic pills, 2 immune mushroom pills, and 8-10 cranberry pills. This absolutely works on bacterial infections e.g. in gums (over a couple of weeks). thought it might also have effect on viruses. I have yet to get anything serious enough to test this stack but seems to have been effective, so far, against mild flu symptoms combined with above.
Saying this as I have multiple family members and relatives that get the jab every year and are sick as heck every year or even multiple times and year. I’ve never got the flu jab and never get a flu.
Fresh air is important - even if it means to open the windows wide in the middle of the winter (heating adds to our de--hydrating and should be kept to a minimum). Could you speak about infra-red light for the sinuses and trachea? Also what about very warm bathing and then bundling up to "sweat it out". All my friends are sick. I'm not. Oh yeah - and please talk about the danger of doing normal stuff before the symptoms have disappeared. Thanks for the vid.

Never thought flu would make me depress so bad
I think one of the best things we can do is have these OTC medications in your house, ready to go should you get sick. Nobody wants to go to the store when you are sick with the flu, it is indeed awful stuff
OTC medications are unnecessary and a waste of money. Have Tylenol or ibuprofen around but that’s all you need.
i will never underestimate the flu again. im getting the shot every single year
Flu jab doesn’t stop you getting the flu. You do realise there are many strains
Did you have neck pain and headache for a long time ?
I do light band exercise, and I do light isometrics, light yoga and meditation daily I recover quickly when I'm ill.

Our body temperature spikes for good reason… to fight off infection. Let your fever run it’s course!
Yep sweat it out I'm old-school
Don’t let it get too high or you will die.
But not too high. Very high fever can cause severe dehydration and blindness
Flu needs time to heal
Yeah but like I have too much absences...
Dang dont be crying wolf
Most jobs will make you a target for going on sick leave cos they think your faking it to get days off. People have bills to pay as well
I didn’t get a flu shot this year and got hit with a bad cold. I was in bed and could not do anything for 3 days. Only time I got up was to go to the restroom or eat. Even taking a shower was a struggle for me.
I do cardio everyday and strength training 2 days a week and good with my diet (in general), and take vitamins regularly.
what vitamin D level are you at?
You improved your natural immunity like you should then! Congrats!
Poor thing. God should bless YOU. May your recover quickly. -non-native speraker.
I thought I got over the flu and two weeks later it hit me again. I thought I was the only one
I never had the vaccine. I eat well, sleep, don’t stress, workout, and I haven’t been sick in years.

You probably have less social interaction
Smart man, I had decades of illness after a flu shot adverse reaction
Everyone’s immune system is different
Do you have kids? If you have kids you will get the flue and many other things from them
I've had quite a few bouts of flu over the decades of my life, and this isn't as bad as I've had previously.
These Body aches are unbearable 😢
Since going keto/paleo over 2yrs ago, I haven't had a regular cold or flu since. Got over covid within a week followed by a lingering cough now and then for two weeks. No medical intervention, just good diet.
I’ve had flu twice that I can know of and the last thing I wanted was to eat anything! Chicken broth, maybe, or just herbal, caffeine-free, tea. I think the body tells us when to eat again, the appetite comes back.
I had the flu vaccine and I’m still laying here with the worst flu ever 😮
I’m down bad with the flu right now. It’s no joke and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. At it’s peak, it was horrible! Thought I was dying. Praying for better days.

I’m on day 5 of the flu right now. I don’t even feel like I’m getting any better. I had the flu a couple other times years ago, for some reason this time seems way worse. And my back is killing me!!!
Me too im on day 6 fever keeps coming back terrible headaches and back pain and body aches when will it end
I'm pushing fluids despite feeling too weak to control my bladder.
Got it first time this year, 3 days of 40C is no fun, then 2 days 39C, now back to normal. Sweating at night like I’d be swimming… coughing, headache, generally lousy feeling and blocked lungs with much mucus…

What about NAC?
Sore throat and 👂 ears are killing me.

Me also feel like dying for 3 days and then cough for 3 weeks. Antihistamines only thing that works for my coughing

I have persistent coughs that stings bodyaches but mostly my back. Nothing helps 😣 but i feel just fine otherwise sometimes
So what ever happened to Relenza? Took it back in the 90's and it worked overnight.
Raw garlic and ginger tea.
What works for me is chips, dried cranberries/any dried berry and water.
It’s really weird I know, but it works for me when I feel like I’m gonna die from the flu.
I don’t even question it, if it works it fking works and it works fast.
Wow, drugs drugs drugs and side effects. Nah.
