    In this video i give a brief explanation of how to flip your leaf springs on a truck, which will give you a 5 inch drop (about). This can be done with common hand tools (with the exception of a welder) and is relatively simple.

    (Removing Thingies) This little thingie and that little thingie can be removed from that little thingie that holds that big thingie but be careful not to remove to many thingies at once or you could have thingies all over the place and that would be a real mess of thingies to clean up! but all this thingie clean up can be done for free if you become a thingie expert.

    This is something that's been done to trucks for about as long as they have mounted the springs on top of the axle .Easy job to do and I have done it many times for the last 30 to 40 years . But some frames don't have a high arch and can hit the axle unless you modify the frame to clear .

    That "little block" is a spring perch. You can buy them new from summit according to your axle tube diameter.

    Couldn’t the rear end be flipped from side to side? So, in essence the drivers wheel would be flipped over to the passenger side and Vice versa, The there would be no need to cut the locator block off of the axle it would reside in the same location. The only concern I can see would be the gears, but since the Drive Shaft is still rotating in the same direction I think the gears would be fine.

      no you dont want to do this for a few reasons. 1 the fill plug and drain plug on the rear. the drain plug is place to be at the lowest point to allow the oil to drain out. If rotated it will be at the top and useless. the fill plug is set to the location to hold the correct amount of gear oil and wont allow you to overfill. This location is changed when flipped. also the way the housing in designed is to hold the oil and flow to best cool the ring and pinion. If you just flip the rear over you are gonna end up destroying the rear

    What welder did you use and what about lowering the front?

    • @hellfreezer5693
      @hellfreezer5693  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I used a MIG welder from harbor freight. Just their basic one. Not wonderful but it got the job done. In the front I cut the springs. General rule there is 1 coil equates to roughly 2 inches of drop. That part was a bit sketchy but seems to be doing alright

      Yes but you need to buy a flip kit online they usually 200-500 depending on the quality and usually flipping leafs gives 6 inches on most trucks

    • @firstnamelastnameisallowed7943

      Lift/lowering blocks work but only on a truck that is called "sprung under" or spring under" that is when the axle sits on top of the leaf spring you can get a block kit and the block goes between the axle and spring making the axle sit higher up. If it is a truck like this one in the video that is "sprung over" a block would lift it. He is talking about a flip kit or axle flip in this video. Stock the axle is under the spring so by putting it on top of the spring you lower it by however much the thickness of the axle is witch is usually around 3 or 4 inches depending on the truck. Doing a flip without proper know how can be very dangerous!! A flip kit comes with all the brackets you need and you dont need to do any welding. The spring perch or the block as he refers to in this video can be left right were it is because the kit has a bracket that turns the bottom of the perch into tbe new mounting point. Hard to explain but google it and you will see many pictures that make it make more sense. Axle alignment, is very important also pinion angle is critical and doing a home made job without the proper knowledge can get you into some trouble. It is done all the time dont get me wrong you dont need a kit but knowing how to properly doit is very important!! I'm not trying to put the guy in this video down or anything like that at all either!! He had some things right I'm just saying there a lot more to it and to do as much research as you can before doing stuff like this. You literally are placing the life of others and your own in your hands when you mod trucks like this so just know what your doing as much as possible. Dramatic as that sounds its 100% true. I lost 4 good friends few years ago because of a lowering job done incorrect and the truck spun out and flipped killing all inside plus another person in a vehicle that was not even with them. If its worth doing its worth doing it correctly!!

    • @hellfreezer5693
      @hellfreezer5693  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about a dodge ram specifically, but any truck with a leaf spring over axle suspension design can be flipped to achieve a drop. You will need atleast a new leaf spring perch to weld to the bottom of the axle.

    • @danielhausler2014

      Yeah you could do it but it's sketchy. It's called a getto drop for a reason. But it can be done right, beltech makes springs for my 94 Chevy that literally have one spring pulled. If you've ever plan on still using your truck is a truck get leaf spring
