I’m amazed at how much it’s grown since I first visited in 1998. Even Pappalecco’s has changed. I’m just glad Filippi’s is still there. I have fond memories of dinners with family, friends, professors, and colleagues there.
We used to rent an apartment on Union Street for the month of July to get away from the Phoenix heat. It was the closest to being back in Brooklyn. It was my happy place 😊
Again, huge Mediterranean influence and climate in San Diego 🌞 Would love to see more Italians and Italian style neighborhoods in SD. Should do a video of East/inland San Diego. Lots of houses on hills and breathtaking hikes!
I stayed in Little Italy in May. It was my first time in San Diego, and I absolutely loved it! I can't wait to go back. I'm hungry, just thinking about all that great food.
I gotta give you the props for making this video! I would have just filmed then done a voice over after, a few good times as it got crowded in your video and onlookers glanced over my anxiety peaked a bit haha
I never had a chance to check out Little Italy during my visit to San Diego last year. I'll need to check it out on my next trip there though as everything looks really nice especially around dinner time!
I think India St was to honor the STAR OF INDIA sailing ship (which, for non-natives, is a classic 19th Century sailing ship that is docked permanently in SD Harbor and is now a fascinating museum)
Piazza Basilone (at India & Fir) features a bust of Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism at Guadalcanal and who lost his life at Iwo Jima.
I wish the City would close India Street to automobile traffic (Like New York did with its Wall Street neighborhood ). BTW, the streets are named after trees; Ash, Beech, Cedar, Date, Elm, Fir, Grape, Hawthorne, India, Ivy, Juniper. (Yes, there's a tree called India).
The only place I ever go to eat in little Italy is Felippi’s. That being said, it has been forever since ai have been there. The main reason I never even consider it is that traffic is horrendous down there. Also, if you have to valet, it’s a fortune! A friend of mine went there last year, snd she said it was gonna be $80.00 to valet! Insane!
Hi can I Please ask you a question? Was this filmed now? On july 23? If so, why are everyone wearing long cloths? Isnt it hot? I am comming in 2 weeks and I thought it is summer.. 😢😮Thank you
He said it was the 4th of July. Costal SoCal had unusually heavy marine layer (fog) this year. As it usually does in July, it's starting to dissipate now but it can often be chilly at the water through August esp. in the early morning and evening. Pack layers/hoodies
Hey you said to ALWAYS bring snacks on the plane. BA at Heathrow told me “we advice against” as it can have problems with security 🙄 but I trust you more. It’s ok to bring smarties in my carry on? Thank you 🙂
Was quite put off by California after feeling very unsafe in San Francisco and also Los Angeles. What you show in this video is pleasant and proves that I shouldn't have painted the entire state with the same brush!
Yeah San Francisco and LA are absolute dumps now, but San Diego and Orange County especially are nicer. Same with Portland where I live. Just go a little further out of the metro area and it’s night and day how much better the areas are outside of the city

I visit San Diego every couple months and love staying at La Pensione hotel. It's always so fun, and you don't need a car.
Really like the little Italy area. Thank Chris. 🎉
My pleasure!
Love living in Little Italy ... a pity you left out Nolita Hall.

I love Little Italy. Princess Pub and Bar One are my ho-to places for lunch and sometimes I go to Lofty for a flat white.
Looks like you found the Little Italy tour 😀
We love Little Italy in San Diego! We have been there 3 times, one of which was last month!
5:45…Sorrento is quite wonderful by the way (as is Zucherro!)
Thanks for the tips Ed!
I just arrived and had no idea where to take my family. Now I got everything thanks to you! ❤
Sweet+

Mmm
I just booked a hotel in Little Italy. Safe?
GREAT PLACE THANKS FOR THE REVIEW
Thanks so much!
Is there anything else to do there besides eat? Are there any museums, art exhibits etc?
I gotta give you the props for making this video! I would have just filmed then done a voice over after, a few good times as it got crowded in your video and onlookers glanced over my anxiety peaked a bit haha
Thanks Mike! I always like to talk on location as I find I'm a bit more excited about what I'm talking about than if I'm doing it later at home
MY CITY! haha try ballest point in little italy for beer!
Thanks for the tip!

Lasagna at Mona Lisa Little Italy should be one of your next San Diego eats 😀
We recently Stayed in little Italy at the Carte hotel! Nice little neighborhood.
Neat!
My daughter agrees with you. Mona Lisa is the best place in Little Italy 😋
Awesome Phil!

Ah... that makes sense!
When I saw this pop up, at first I thought somehow I missed the live stream! 😂
Just a bonus video this week 😀

Cool guy, in the yellow house, under the Little Italy sign, is Nick. Filippis forever❤
Love Nick!

Me too. It was nice during COVID when it was closed to traffic for outdoor dining

@@YellowProductions Good to know. I willget off of work early one day, and head over. I DO love that area!

Hi Hila. Yes I filmed this in July. But it was sunset time.. in San Diego it also often gets chilly at night time even in the summer
Thank you very much for your reply 🩷
@@mitchbart4225 thank you I am from Israel and I have never been to California.

Yeah. SF and LA are rough. But Cali does have some quite nice spots!
Why are you worried about the name of the street? It’s been India forever.
I was born in SD and we lived on India street.
Neat
Does Sam Diego have a Chinatown?
Yeah. It's Convoy Street
💚🤍❤
华人看看就好,这里的食物很普通,家里随便弄弄可能都比这强
Very commercial no wise guys lol
