      It seemed pretty clear to me that The Health Nerd is giving the thumbs up to organic because the studies all show that organic foods have lower pesticide levels and lower pesticide levels means less exposure to toxins such as the one mentioned in the video. Science isn't truth or fiction. Much like a religion it is belief -- belief in the best evidence that we have. That belief often needs to be subject to change as new evidence is presented and a case can be better made in favor of a certain viewpoint. The recent shift in nutrition science is a great example. Many people take their beliefs to the level of religious fervor, it's always best to be skeptical, so thumbs up to your inquiries!

    Question what is better raw suger, brown sugar, white sugar, honey. I am not in to artificial sweetener. I have tried some of the new sugar out there but it as a funny after tast. but really what with all those sugar out there what is ok to use if u must use sugar.

    • @Siowish
      @Siowish 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shawneen Ison A lot of people opt for coconut sugar because of its low GI index, but I've also seen research saying that the GI index shouldn't be used as the ultimate measure of "healthiness" for carbs. For me, I just see all added sugars and sweeteners as something I should limit on my diet.

      Monk fruit, 100% stevia, xylitol, brown organic cane sugar, erytritol. ((If I don't buy it already combined, I combine them myself. As I don't want after taste, or one is more expensive, a lot of xylitol by itself makes me fart, etc. Also it depends if it is for tea, a smoothie, etc. Buy them all and see what u like then buy a bigger size of the winners. )) People might fight at me on the cane sugar, but hey! Is better than white sugar and I don't use as much as I put some of the others. Just that I like how the brown sugar kills the aftertaste of the others. ♡♡♡♡♡

    • @tagaway6173
      @tagaway6173 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trader's Joe sells a small container of 100% stevia. The spoon is so tiny, is funny. Xylitol on Whole foods, Monk fruit on the Internet (from the Lo Han brand) .... I'm just sharing where I bought my last sugars. Hopefully u find it easier. Oh! And Splenda. .. yes, Splenda finally sells something I can buy. Is Stevia with Erytritol. Don't buy stevia with the bad sweeteners. What's the point of stevia with detroxe? Like... 50 good / 50 bad. ... that's a no-no.

    • @tagaway6173
      @tagaway6173 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honey.... I don't use it often... maybe once every 2 months.. or if I'm feeling sick and I make a tea I had from my childhood that uses honey ... that's more of a nostalgic craving than a necessity. I think u get me. ♡♡¤♡¤♡♡

    If you are more able to buy and therefore will eat more conventionally grown food, then I'd say judging by the info in this video that its more important health wise...especially if you are sticking to the clean 15. just something I learned in an agricultural class: I was always taught that meat that was exposed to antibiotics was ok. Before they take the meat from the animal they have to inspect it, and like us the antibiotic would flush out of there system in about a week or so. Therefore, they aren't aloud to put meat on the shelf without making sure it's safe from all that stuff

  • @Hoonters-goona-Hoont
    @Hoonters-goona-Hoont 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I live in Germany and one problem here is that there isn't really a trustworthy instance of control to decide whether a food item is really organic or not. Producers are allowed to label their food as organic under very lackadaisical guidelines and tend to obstruct the consumer from doing clarifying research on their products. Also, the few "non-affiliated" labels we have all came under fire for lobbyism and corporate meddling in the past, which caused distrust and spite towards the "Organic industry" (Lovely word, isn't it?) among the general populace. In general, it is seen as just another curio market niche for you to spend more money than necessary in.
    Basically:
    If I go out to buy a chicken, I don't know if I can really trust the labels, looking up the exact product and it's origins/chain of production is a game of patience and luck, so there's always a risk to pay more for the same crap, and if all that did not deter me, prices tend to be exuberant and the variety of "truly organic" products is depressingly limited, most of which are still imported (Despite the fact they could be produced locally), by the way. It's all just a big ball of FUBAR, IMO.
    Sorry about that vent. I don't know what came on.

  • @axelotl24
    @axelotl24 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    As far as I know, the "eat organic" problem is a tad more serious than it's presented. Industrial foods do not have a good impact on consumers, farmers, animals, or on their soil. In fact, Kimbal Musk (who's highly invested in "real foods") speaks in an interview about how he bought farm land that was previously owned by an industrial farmer (who used pesticides), and Kimbal claims it will take them 20 years to restore the soils nutrients to what it was before. Think about it, if their pesticides can do that to soil what the effect on the animals and your body is in the long term. Industrial food disrupts the bodies chemistry. Also, it's perfectly possible to produce food without pesticides, hell that's the default. l understand for mass production that'll be a problem but that doesn't mean people aren't working on solutions. For example, projects like Square Root (also by Kimbal Musk) are trying to bring farming to cities, you should look into it.

    Many organic foods & specialty crops are so expensive because they're not subsidized by the government. Could you do a video on GMOs? I believe the reason there is no scientific consensus is also due to money: who funds what. While science is solid, scientists are human with their own agendas. If you've already done a video on GMOs can you respond with a link? I'm new to your channel. Thanks.

    So I've been trying to eat better lately but I feel like I kill all the healthiness when I cook food. Example, when I cook spinach in a pan with some olive oil and salt and pepper, because it's not raw anymore, I feel like I cooked all the healthiness out of it. Same with mushrooms and baking asparagus and so on and so forth. Does this make a big difference? Is it still healthy? Maybe you could make a video about how cooking food affects it with both vegetables and fruits.. Thanks for all the help!

    I feel like most arguments against organic foods are for people who don't want to invest the extra money in their food and are justifying why they don't need to buy organic. Even if the differences were marginal (which I personally don't believe), just the fact of having less synthetic chemicals directly ingested in your body should be argument enough for organic foods.

    Organic may be a bit more however it's 10,000x better on your body and many grocery stores that aren't specialty stores (walmart, etc.) Are offering organic produce and animal products for not much more than non organic and sometimes way less than specialty food stores which in my opinion me being on a budget getting a good cost even if I pay a bit more is awesome when non specialty stores selling organic

    Thanks for your video. I will focus on the Clean 15 and dirty dozen since we cannot always afford to buy organic.

    Other tips: know criteria of labels of organic food.
    Another option is taking the product to the lab if you still aren't sure. There scientists have methods to find any pesticide residues, nutrients and pollutants

    Are baby carrots worth buying? Are they healthy? I read an article saying they are made from old carrots molded together. Maybe i am being bamboozled but I am very curious

    Have you grown up on a farm? Do you know how much more land and resources organic takes than non organic. If all corn and wheat land currently being used goes organic you should see what happens to the world food supply.

    Awesome vid, coming from an agriculture student! But this agriculture student is also a bread baker by trade, who loves bread but also wants to lose weight. Can you do a video on carbs and what they do and how they hurt our diets and such?

    Hi Health Nerd
    I was wondering if you could do a video on the differences between white pasta and brown with health benefits/disadvantages to each. I find it really hard to have a clear answer as to whether brown is okay to eat if you are watching your diet. Thanks :)
