@Memer Dreamer Agree buddy. Not only plays taste a role, but hitting some kind of *sweet-spot* where your RC performs relativ to its size stabil forward, in curves and for highspeed at its catagory. 144001 weight/size is perfect for its cata. While it isn't supposed to be the best jumper or offroader with mid/high terrain objects... it can perform *good* there and on street lvl *very good to excellent* its light weight also helps to reach high speed and less broken legs ;) when it crashes at nornal speed till arround 50 kmh.
You can not go wrong with it as it is orginal.
But a 1/8 scale would open better offroad on cost of speed.
Witch is why i bought the *LC Racing V3* 54cm long 48cm width and only 20xm high. flat SpideronCrack 😉

I have one of these V2 models on the way to compare as well, the V1 I was sent and reviewed was the worst WLtoys I've ever tested 👎 even after I made some modifications to try help the range.

You know a lot of people get really excited and Hop on the wagon for big 1/5th size RCs but 1/12 1/14 1/16 and even 1/18 have always been my favorite. There's something about such a small package that has crazy performance that just puts the biggest smile on my face.

They should be sending these to those of us that have the useless first one. Mine cogs so bad it’s not really drivable.
They should take al V1 back and change to V2 that's what good brands does
V2 4300kv motor would not last long on 3s, thats why the v1 motor was better for 3s. All they did good was changing the pinion.it's really sad to call it a V2.

I applaud any company that listens to users and implement them prompt. An upgrade kit option would be less of a blow for V1 users but remember it's these companies making the bigger players sweat and lower their prices and make this awesome hobby more affordable which is what we need in these times
Testing the product on the market I suppose. Nothing is perfect. I used to suffer front bumper breakage on TAMIYA hornet all the time and that got expensive..not to mention the tyres.
Shame it was like it to begin with but the fact they have addressed the issue is pretty great tbh. Let's be honest, nobody would have been surprised if they had just left it like it was.
I'm glad it's fixed because I really prefer the colour scheme to the brushed version. Might have to pick one up when I see a good deal.

how would you compare it to the Riaario 1/12 desert buggy and the HBX 2995 1/12 buggy?
I have a v1 brushed and i might just buy a v2 those tires are nice, no need to remove oil from the shocks and its a 3 wire servo, yes please, and its the brushless one so very nice, what about grease on the diffs?

Would purchase this just for the body/chassis then change out the electronics.
First review of the V2 on TH-cam Phil! Got the V1 after waiting months due to delays. I did get a partial refund from Banggood which i used to put in an 80amp esc. Has improved it massively but still cogs a bit. Ditched the transmitter in favour of my Flysky GT5 as well. I do wish i had cancelled the order in hindsight but you live and learn!
at least it's still a really good platform, get a surpass 3650 3900KV + 60amp ESC combo for ~40$ and you are done . that's the upgrade i have planed for my 124018.
Edit: They now sell the V2 motor+mount+pinion gear all together for 30$ .
Well done wltoys for listening and sorting issues. But next time you design a new car. Do some proper testing cus we should of got this straight away.👍

I love Wltoys and its such a shame that they released the first version knowing full well there's an issue. Hats off to them though for trying to fix it. But the damage has been done. Ive just reviewed the new HBX 901A and its a marvelous piece of kit. I would even go as far as to say its slightly superior in some respects. Excellent informative video as usual Sir!!!
What u get when u pay for a crappy Chinese brand that don't care about their products.
@@Alizz12 The last releases were not good but there is a kit t fix all the issues. They then reworked the product. I would rather pay less and get better value than be over charged for well known brands that think because of the name and nostalgia they can charge excessive amounts for kits that lack parts which should come as standard.

How exactly is it superior ? it's more expensive , it's slower ( much slower in fact ) , it comes with a worse battery , you can't adjust the camber or the toe in/out. How is it superior ?
@@darkki94 Mmmm not really any more expensive roughly the same price (well it is on Banggood anyway). Battery's not an issue because you can double up on them in the tray. I personally don't think it's any slower and if it is it's not by much. It's tough as old boots and very well made with a complete metal drive train. I own three Wltoys trucks and the quality feels better on the HBX. The HBX is a little more off road orientated so I don't find the lack of adjustment in the suspension an issue, it pretty much goes where it's pointed. I just find it a lot nicer to use. And the transmitter has no range issues and there's no horrible cogging out of the box, just smooth drive from the off. But this only my opinion. 👍

Hey Tomley, just my opinion but if you do not make videos on bad vehicles how am I supposed to know its crap? I buy things based on your reviews and I was going to buy the V1 because the the brushed version of it was so good so why would the brushless be any different? But it was a lemon. Glad I didn't buy it and I was able to see it wasn't good from other youtubers but I always come here first. I understand why you wouldent give a lemon air time but sometimes it may be a good thing at least for me anyways. Thanks brother!
Maybe do you own research and look up another channels that have reviewed it hahaha. Not that hard mate RC Kiwis reviewed it and said it was crap actually alot of people did. Never take the word off just 1 reviewer tomley does great reviews but if you are spending money on something like anything if your unsure do the research before jumping in and then realising it's junk and blaming someone else when if you just looked into it abit more you would know it's not great.
@@uteboy86 yea man that's what I did, actually rc kiwis are the ones that got me not to get it lol. Tomley is just my favorite to watch so I wish he would do everything but I get it.

I find it a bit disturbing you chose not to review the v1 although you had it, seems like you preferred to take care of wltoys interests instead of you followers.
Maybe it’s a sponsoring issue, not sure but it doesn’t look good to me as I got one thinking it’s a great car and discovered it’s actually a peace of ****.
I would have reviewed it if there wasn't already multiple videos showing the issues. I have so many videos to make, along with a normal 40hr a week day job... so it's more about what is priority for me. As for sponsorship... if you watch enough of my videos, you'd know I don't bow down to anyone who sends me stuff for free.. they often need me more than I need them :)

A 19T 0.7mod pinion is a godsend for my other WLT builds. Hope they sell them separately soon 🤞
And that motor mount would be nice also. I put a 17t on my Blue BR version while changing to BL. That 19t would be a sweet spot for 2s.

They definitely should have fine this in the first place, it’s turned it into the beast it was meant to be.. I’m glad I didn’t buy the V1 now, I have the brushed version which I love but I’m tempted now for sure.
V1 owner here who is feeling a little annoyed, mainly because they would have 100% noticed the cogging if they had tested the v1. Got a new motor and pinion for my v1 but not got around to changing it over as I know they can be a bit of a pain when it comes to everything being dipped in threadlock

That is not threadlock they used, but 502/CA glue/super glue.
Glad they sorted it out but unfortunately I pre ordered the v1 before it was even reviewed on TH-cam so I am stuck with it and it is still in the box. I will probably just upgrade it with my own stuff at some point. Great video mate look forward to the 4 car comparison.

I would be thoroughly pee'd off if I had a V1. WLToys should at least offer something to help V1 owner's, with an upgrade, or replacement. They've kind of accepted that there was an issue by releasing the V2 in the first place. 🤷🏻♂️

Totally agree all they have done is got a bad reputation ! I have the first three brushed buggies and thought they were great, but after watching the cogging issue with new ones I am glad I didn't invest

Many thanks! As an Eachine EAT14 owner, I'm disappointed by the cogging issue, but happy there's a known fix. Maybe Banggood will supply retrofit kits to V1 owners? They did a similar thing for my EAT04's front diff.
I was curious to know if you had an ESC programming card for the 124016/7? I'd love to know if they've changed any default settings between the V1 and V2? I have a card, and will change my settings to V2, and try to find a 21-22 tooth pinion for my EAT14.
Not 100% possitive but i did see a post where I believe it was a surpass hobby program card that works on the esc.
I have also seen you can use the surpass or GoolRC ones. I’ll have a look and put it in the next video of these

That cogging problem is the electrics not soldered properly I've had it with different cars
It wasnt the problem in this case. It was overgeared.
It’s a gearing problem. Only happens with sensorless brushless setups.
They should of done this first time round for sure, they would of known about them issues and it's a shame coz they're oryt for what you pay I have the 124019 which I done a brushless conversion on 👍

I have the V1 version. It’s Really Not bad. You almost have to try to cogg it out. 99.9% of the time I’m heavy on the throttle… there’s no issues, and the buggy is FAST AS HELL!! Considering it was $119. When I got it….. Great Value

is it using the old spur gear still? so this upgrade kit should provide the correct spacing for the 19t pinion with the new motor mount?

Hey tomley i am back, I am requesting for a Video on the ZD Racing DBX10, it is a asian Cheaper alternative verion of the LOSI Lasernut, and i am planning on buying that car OO yeah and dont forget could you make it a brushed version, because i am getting the brushed one, it'd be a life saver to know results from a youtuber, (P.S the brushless is expensive :P)
I just got vertigo and nauseated trying to watch this while you were filming down low. I get it easily though. One of my misfortunes, lol. I bought this buggy because of your beach run with the paddles. I use it almost every day while I'm feeding my Rooster/Hens and cows. My Roosters try to fight it and the cows chase it and try to stomp it. 😂

But! Don't say WL, say XK. WL is previously known for it's crappy quality. Actually, it's a big concern like the GM, who swallows all the decent manufacturers. And XK is known for it's high-quality, complicated, but cheap hobby models. Let this car be XK.
Does this have better ground clearance than the Wltoys 124008?

I enjoy mine, replaced 2 rear diffs though, both originals. striping the spider gears to shreds. replaced with aftermarket ones that have a Fullmetal housing, see how they go. maybe to much torque and power for the little drive train.
I'd be super pissed if I bought the v1 and seen this one lol. But like you said at least they are fixing it for future customers.
I ordered the 124016 Very fast. Has blue wheel on controller. But has clogging problems. Difficult to get to crawl or even go slow. Very hesitant then jumps. Asked specifically for v2 and was told that's all they have. Problems sound very similar to v1. Anyone having similar problems.
i did buy the 017.. still in the box.. i have no time to do anything.. i was shocked to see all the bad reviews on the 016
I wish I had never seen this video, maybe I would have saved myself time and money and bought the LC-Racing EMB-DT right off the bat. This is just a poor quality clone, and the LC Racing isn't even much more expensive.

A tt-02 tamiya is a great start but it will take some decent money to get it performing at it's best.

@Tomley RC I bought this car 124016 V2 only to find out there is a 124018 V2 now I am totally confused and feel like maybe I bought wrong one please help?
I LOVE that car, in my country (Paraguay) it is 170USD but I am afraid that it is version 1 and as it is online purchase I have no way to confirm it.
PD: In the end I bought it and it was the V2, the only thing is that the assembly of the shock absorbers is plastic and I broke it just when testing it!
Well, I am surprised about the cogging issue, I haven't noticed it with mine. I was staggered how fast and stable the Mark 1 version is, the one with the white branding on the wheels, mind you it is running on a 2s. Great video as ever.
"white branding" = brushed version , they are running fine, also they are A LOT cheaper if you can find the right deal .
As for it being a kick in the balls to those who bought V1...well, that's why you never buy the first year of a new car...they are always without fail, full of bugs. it used to be back in the day that manufacturers would work out those bugs before going into production. Now? Customers are test mules. "why should we spend the money to test when customers will pay US to be our test mules"????
This is absolutely the best off road buggy you can buy for the money. Forget the overpriced branded stuff. I have over 50 cars and this is among my favourites. Superb build quality, and now they sorted out the gearing, it's perfect. I have just bought a brushed one as well as the brushless is a bit overpowered for the track I use. What an amazing piece of kit.
I have to hard disagree, I own two of these as well as an LC-Racing EMB-DT. The quality, handling, durability (better materials and slipper clutch) of the LC Racing is in a *completely* different league than this thing. I would happily trade two of these for one LC-Racing EMB-DT.

@@simonfisher836 you must have never driven both side by side if you think that. Just because a cheap clone looks similar from a distance you think it’s the same? The LC has much higher quality materials, miles better suspension, slipper clutch, better motor and ESC.
@wilsgrant I think you're missing the point. Best car for the money, the one you mention is more than twice the price and not as readily available here.

Hey Tomley I have the buggy version of this just got it, I'm having an issue with it, after I release the throttle it apply brakes all by itself and comes to a stop instead of rolling. Do you know what's wrong with it?

Glaid you reviewed the V2 version. The only reason I prefer the 124017 over the 124016 is because it's less likely to start rolling.
but the 124016 will be much tougher to break - my 124018 got ran over by an SUV and the only damage was a bend CVD shaft that i fixed with a set of pliers !

Alright imma come out and say this, and people are welcome to correct me but it looks like wltoys completely ripped this design from Tacon calvary, not sure when this thing was released but it looks like a carbon copy of the thing although I've owned a Tacon for years now and have barely broke anything on it. These seem super cheap comparatively

Hello. I am looking to buy this car but it now only comes with a 45 amp esc rather than the 60A. Will this make it slower?

Thinking of getting one for my boy and was wondering could I use my 11.1 3s lipos in it? They are only 25c burst, I just have quite a few laying around because I play airsoft so they're wired to dean's and I don't use them anymore

They seem to just be about money even though the cats are cheaper than most. They keep putting out new versions of the same car and saying wait this one is better. So people are actually paying the same price for one expensive one by buying both

This is a great little buggy. It's fast and runs well. The only issue I have had so far is bent drive shafts. I've been able to find replacement parts for most everything on the car except hex pins. It has 3mm axel threads so it requires 3m nuts. I would consider drilling out the axils to fit standard size pins but that's about as creative as using drill rod or paper clips to substitute for axil pins to hold the wheel hex in place. I would sure love to know where to get these pins.
Have you been able to replace the drive shaft? If so how did you deal with the stuck screws?
In the past I've always sacrificed an old steel Allen key. just find the one that is the perfect size to get press-fit in the axle shaft, and cut to length with a Dremel. In a pinch I'm sure a good wire cutter would work. It'll be strong and stay in place well.
@@kristopherdonaldson9569Thanks Kristopoher .... That seems like a great solution. I have tons of old Allen wrenches in every size imaginable and they are made with strong steel so I think that would work real well.
In 2024 and I just picked one up for 50ish dollars can’t wait to put paddles on it and water skip it
