Yeah, like some of the channels, heres a 1400$ Rc-car, with 1500$ worth of upgrades, lets see if it can handle 100mph into a brick wall. It's stupid. and then they scream an laught of the crushed car.
Yep, deliberate breaking of stuff is a massive turn off. Comes across as very immature and entitled.
The fact that they are willing to put real dampener’s on is commendable! It would make a good stocking stuffer for Christmas! and I think for an entry level car they look a whole lot better than a toy store option!

I know it's brushed, but a 550 size in a 1/12 scale is PLENTY for a 8-13 year old kid to get into RC. Had the 124018 with the same electronics and my kid, and I honestly, loved it. That's why I ended up getting the 124016 and if I'm being honest, it's almost uncontrollable. The 124018 was about perfect for the scale, really. I just like the extra bit of insanity from the brushless system, but the 550 was adequate.
I agree. But 99 is pretty good I think 🤔
I sometimes don't know what you get for nearly $500 or euros. I often don't see were these are worth the money.

Seems very reasonable for about 80 quid! Even back in the day when I was a kid a basic Tamiya kit was more than that with no radio gear etc. This is definitely great for youngsters to get started.
I've been waiting for WLToys to do something great since I bought the 12428 all those years ago... I've dumped a lot of money into mine, and now it is a sweet rig... But I'd like to buy a sweet rig from WLToys, not something that needs an overhaul and 70% aftermarket parts...
Great video, as always. Another car I will pass on, though. Make it brushless, ditch the crappy radios and electronics, and make something super dialed-in out of the box, and I will hop back on-board.

Mate buy a WL 12016 desert buggy. It's the most fun on 4 wheels you will have in a 1/12, Have a look at Phil's review on that beast, Its off its chops!!.
I actually just subscribed LOL! Nice honest review. I think this would make a great entry RC for both kids and adults. Looks like great fun for the price. Goes to show that you don't need to spend a fortune on an RC to enjoy the hobby. Keep up the great work!

This is an excellent review and I won't unsubscribe. It's a decent buggy, but the overheating while running it in grass could be a problem for younger driers who may want to take out in the yard to run it.
Yeah, it’s cheap enough and performs well enough for kids 👌
These wltoys don't like 550 motors it seems, mine likes to cut out in grass when I put in a 550.

The advantage of the 550 motor is... brushless motor options rather than the 390 can size if you are wanting to over power it or do speed runs

Yeah, and with todays prices, $99 doesn’t sound to bad (although the MJX would be my choice)

Cheers dude. I don’t even get the more affordable stuff in just for you guys tonearcj either…I actually prefer running them to the high end stuff most of the time. It annoys me that all the big companies are charging 500-1000 for their products, and a alot of them still break, or have quality issues etc. my XRT cracked all 4 wheels after the first run! The Losi SBR stickers looked like they had been put on by a 5yr old… they take us for fools! (Well.. they try to!). At least with the cheaper stuff, if it breaks or has a few quality issues, it’s not cost us a week or mores wages!

Manufacturers seem to like putting the cooler bodys on the brushed cars. Arma did the same thing with their 2wd brushed sentons and granites and whatnot imo.

Hello, what WL Toys buggy would you recommend for Dad and Son for some light bashing on grass or gravel or easy surfaces ? Top speed is not at all important. Mostly the durability, spare parts availability and reliability. Also battery runtime might be important, will for sure buy at least 2 batteries. Oil shocks is a must. I was checking the 124008 amongst others and do not have a clear picture what is a sweetspot there.. Thanks in advance for an advice.

i really want them to put out an actual budget racing buggy. Theyve got some close stuff that are ok on the track and with a little more work theyll have the best entrance race buggies by far.

off topic... OK I took a small step into battery rc and I bought the ftx tracer...love the little scamp... so decided ok big battery time and purchased a Maverick Quantum MT Flux 80A sorry about that large font...was it a good choice?

I've got a couple of wltoys. I like them well enough. I know, they ain't the best, but I like them well enough.
But man they Drive Straight…Even overpowered. They are still controllable in a straight line. Throttle Control also😂
Yeah.. I have loads and box full of spares. Cheap to fix… and pretty fun to drive
I own a 124017 for around two years now, I run it on 3s. It's stupidly quick, electronics never failed on me, took it to the skatepark quite some times, only thing I ever broke was a single link. I do own some 8th scale stuff but I always bring my good old WLToys and I'm still so happy with it! Best rc cars ever
From what I can see outside of the elimination of the metal chassis from the other 12 scale buggy, my only real issue is the five wire servo. I mean I'd really like it if they just put a separate ESC and receiver in it but a three wire servo would be great
the motor mount in the brushless version is reversible. And they geared it LOW, not high, and you can put the higher gear pinion in it. 50kph is low, the old ones used to do 70mph out of the box?
also the brushless version has a fan on the ESC
In my opinion. WLToys is now a major player in the RC hobby. They provide the best bang for buck.

I had a Wltoys 1/18 A959-B as my first hobbygrade RC car in 2019, and it sure did me justice because with that 540 Brushed motor I didn't need to upgrade to brushless, I worked so hard mowing lawns earning money over the summer for upgrades and spare parts it made it so much more worth it because I worked hard and earned it like everything should be, and as 15yo who wasn't liked by people and was often lazy that buggy helped me work on myself and my knowledge and it kept me busy and happy despite all the other highly overwhelming negative bs in my life
I guess one good thing is that it makes a nice change to see a body shell without all the poofter drag color schemes. Some of them these days are really bad, they look like Christmas paper or a lost poofters sock. One big company is renowned for it. I think we can all work out who that is.

I love the entry level WLToys cars.
They are perfect for a beginner particularly if you're not sure RC is for you, sod blowing half a grand on something you use once then stick in a cupboard.

I wont unsubscribe because I do genuinely enjoy your content. However I still consider an RC like this basically ewaste. The overly simplistic electronics while great for keeping the costs down, also are in a bad place for being easily replaceable by anyone who would likely buy this model to begin with. The end result is the entire thing ends up in the trash when it breaks. The battery being an odd shape would unlikely be easily recognized by someone new to the hobby as usable anywhere else. The fact it uses a 5 wire servo is also not a good thing, as buying replacements is not straight forward.
I'm all for budget RC to get as many people into the hobby as possible don't get me wrong. However I feel like basic standards should be met in that regard. Modular setups with easy to find parts that can be easily understood by someone new to the concepts. This is close, but the electronics used really ruin it for me as something I would ever recommend.
I definitely prefer brushless on everything I really don't see the purpose of a brushed motor anymore except maybe on some Crawlers I guess maybe for a little kid they could be cool but even then you can just turn down the power on your brushless

Wow excellent video Phil. Its a shame it's brushed not brushless i would of bought one if it was on brushless but brushed is a pain in the ass. They crap esc keep cutting out just like the wltoys 144001 few years back. But its still a cheap car for a beginners 😊😊😅😅

i got mine off banggood for £63 plus another battery, its for my son i have the 10th scale one doing 70mph lol fun little build.

Im probably the minority, but i enjoyed you driving like a normal person lol. Most of us arent out to destroy a rig. Some people are nuts though so i get it there is a crowd. Great vid as usual. Glad wl toys are getting better.

I was hoping they would have used this chassis and stuck the electronics from the 124017 in it. All my batteries are 2s while the 124010 and the 124008 would be terribly slow on 2s with their smaller motors. Give us this chassis with better electronics and it will sell better.

When you've got a ripper from WLtoys, how about playing around with some aerodynamics? adding on some "wings" and that would a) increase your jump distance AND soften your landings. I bet the addition of a little bit of wing area on the sides and you could get some serious distance out of your jumps.

Na, staying subscribed. Budget doesn't have to mean garbage. This would be good if you travel a lot like being a truck driver, decent enough to have some fun with waiting to load or unload, or before bed. But not so expensive you would worry about it if something happened to it.
If you scrap all the electronics and start fresh could be fun
