One thing I started doing is pausing the apps while driving to a waiting spot.
You run a risk of getting into an accident while accepting/declining an order, even if your eyes are off the road for just a couple of seconds.
I started that a couple of months ago after somebody almost T boned me

My tip for new drivers is a warning to turn back now.
I second that!! I made it almost a year and it just got worse and worse. Once I realized they were also making 30% on the food alone (work at a restaurant too), I couldn’t get over how badly they were screwing us.
Pick up sammich, deliver sammich and repeat.

Set aside some money for car expenses. I have around $800. Ive had two flat tires in 8 months (I live in the mountains.. lots of gravel) Your car is everything.. take care of it!
Stride for tracking miles, perfect and free! Really the best choice as solo costs money. I do believe Solo does a lot more but if you are just starting off - Stride is the choice as you don't want to spend money until you start making some and even then Stride works perfect for milage tracking and shows you a graph which where you drove all around town.
My 3 cents...know the zones within your zone/delivery area. DD has a tendency of wanting you to start your deliveries (or reserving a spot) where there aren't many drivers (because of low paying/high mile offers or where the orders have you delivering to 'questionable' areas); which will also lower your AR because you're choosing to not accept. Once I'm in my 'choice' area(s), then I select to start, which has averaged me around $20-$25+ per hour than their algorithms preferences. Still, it's a matter of location & luck (and cherrypicking).
I started checking to see if there are drinks on the order. Either they forget or you forget. Also, when you arrive at the address, make sure to get the drink out of the car for the customer. I've done that too and had to go back to my car to get it.

I’m really surprised by how many new people come to Doordash after reading how little money they pay us and how they treat their drivers with such disrespect as well as their customers too. I would definitely start with one of the others or put my primary focus on one of the others because it’s just my opinion that Doordash is, the least reputable one to be with they’re gonna throw you under the bus for anything.

Take every order DD gives you if not your acceptance rate falls 1 percent per order missed. You will never keep the Plantum level if you don't.
Isn't it strange that DD can't send us delivers outside the zoned areas but we can deliver out the zoned areas😊

Keep your acceptance rate at 70% or above so you can qualify for dash anytime that way you don’t have to wait
Should I keep my mileage tracker on the entire time while dashing or turn it on & off for every trip?
Question. My AR is at 62 I am not able to schedule in my zone. For some reason. But zones 20 miles away and farther I can schedule. Any Idea why. The zones are smaller less food places.

My opinion on dashing I been doing it 2 months now I started doing it in my Mercedes but I currentlly rent a car like 4 days a week to deliver now and I don’t accept every order but I try to keep my ar at least 70% if it ain’t making me 2 or more a mile I’m not accepting it and go to a city area that’s the places that make the most money I aim for 1000 or more a week working 5 days a week full time
Where have you seen that offers good prices for daily car rentals? I've thought about doing what you're doing as well, rental instead of my own car.

itemize if your expenses total more than the standard deduction for the year. For example, gas miles, car repairs, tolls. if not, then use the standard deduction.
Are you still using the bodycam? I got a contract violation for not delivering an order, however I disputed it and doordash took it off, I guess my submitted photo was good enough, but now I am paranoid and am considering getting one.
Is there a difference in "Declining and just not excepting" you know. Letting the timer run out?
It’s better not to decline
It will count as a decline in your ratings. Don't take nonprofitable offers regardless of your status; Silver, Gold.
Under $6 orders, you would need at least 4 back to back orders, with low mileage to make it work $ per hour. Don't take orders that are too far, and that will take a while to get back to your "hot zones". If you do, double the cost per mile and time to the offer pay.
Example: If you get $12 for 15 miles and it takes 30 min to complete the order, you need to drive back to your zone, then cost of gas and time is below min. wage.
No difference except that they might be more likely to send you the same one immediately again.
Allowing the timer to run out does count as a decline on your acceptance rate.
I don't know if it is my imagination or not, but, by letting the timer run out vs. declining the order, my AR seems to suffer less and I don't have to see the "are you sure" decline message pop up that shows your AR will immediately go down by 1%.
Do you pay for gig insurance? That could be a tax deduction.
