That Filipino male teacher was too kind. He should have shouted back to that ignorant Korean woman in the bus, “I’m here to teach your kids how to speak English and to behave properly so they don’t grow up to be as ignorant as you!” Then hit her with a lawsuit.
East Asians are still in need of civility and Christian conversion despite having achieved some semblance to order. This is manifested in their overly strict class and age system and why they themselves live in extreme anxiety to the point of being suicidal. Sorry but, let’s call spade a spade.

As a black american man, I used to live in Seoul Korea and I had my experiences of discrimination and racism in Seoul Korea. I did not let that ruining my experience in Seoul, because I had great times in Seoul as a black american man. Good video Jessica, also I think we as people need to embrace other people's culture to make racism better around the world.

The fact that he remembers the EXACT date, says a lot! It probably scarred him. Just because you’ve never heard of such thing in your country, doesn’t mean it can’t happen! Stop invalidating HIS own experience! That’s his experience, not yours!
I remembered my Korean HS classmate here in the PH apologizing to us out of nowhere because on how generally Koreans looked down on Filipinos. He said that after staying in the PH, he was ashamed on how Filipinos are talked about in Korea. That happened yeeeaaarrrsss agooo! I thought it stopped but I guess I was wrong.

A big slap in the face! I love this guy 👍 Exactly! This was also what I had in mind when talking about English Accent. What's so great about American Accent or British Accent? It was their mother tongue. Before they start being racist, they should come here in the Philippines, learn Filipino Language, then speak fluent Tagalog.
Me myself I can speak Tagalog, English, Bisaya and a little Japanese and Korean. But them, they only speak their mother tongue but think their great on their own 🙂

Totally agree! I don't get it when accent becomes an issue. British people naturally have the British accent BECAUSE they are British and so with the Americans who definitely have the American accent. Do you expect them to have an Australian accent? Why speak about the obvious? Actually, Americans do have different accents too. They have the North American accent, and the South American accent or the Cali accent. Why do you expect Filipinos to have a British accent or an American accent when Koreans do have an accent too? It's really the ability to communicate that is more important. Remember, even two people with the same accents do have misunderstandings when they can't communicate well.

Of course. I was an English tutor exclusively for korean students here in the Philippines. The kids would always say that Filipinos are poor and are just living good because of them, funny but i think they get these thoughts from their parents. I went to S.Korea in 2018, in the bus I was standing and it was quite cramped inside, my knees touched a woman's leg, she was sitting, but she tried kicking my legs to push me away. S.Korea doesnt feel like a warm country to me, no matter how much filipinos embrace their culture. My opinions based on my experiences.

Jessica is one eloquent speaker. Love how she explains, points out the obvious yet smoothly traverses through the context of her thoughts. Her accent is fascinating, at least to me. I can feel the purity of her intention in her delivery, en point. A good speaker, indeed.
When CHRIS was questioned about his ability to teach English, he handled the situation very well. Instead being overly-defensive or sensitive about it, he managed to find a common ground with that person. It eventually became the reason why that Korean enrolled to be his student. The difference between learning fom a native speaker vs a non-native speaker is that the latter has first-hand experience in learning English as a 2nd language. They automatically have a connection w/ their students & would easily understand how it feels to learn and adjust to English.
From Chris standpoint or any Filipinos we normally understand if the person you are talking to does not really know how to speak english. We dont normally react right away instead we help and guide them on how to do it.
I remember back in 2018 where I competed in Taekwondo, it was an invitational competition and thankfully there's a lot of filo taekwondo athletes that time who also joined and competed. That time it was very cool to be in a foreign country without your parents just your younger sibling, coaches, and teammates but what I didn't expect is that knetizens would literally talk behind your backs thinking we (more likely me because I'm the only one who was able to understand) wouldn't be able to understand them. It really hurts because you are an athlete and you are there to compete and enjoy all new learnings. It hurts saying that "we are so noisy" "unwelcomed athletes" "we should go back home". Even if my fam and I went to other foreign countries for vacation I would always here people being racist.
As a Japanese, racism is everywhere even here in the Philippines but I find Filipinos more welcoming than being racist. Been staying here for a little over 3 years now and I've been enjoying my stay here so far. I also made a lot of friends already. Too bad I have to move out soon due to the nature of my work.
Yea some will discriminate you here but not to the extent of physical harm. Most of the filipinos are well aware of the foreigners especially in my province here in palawan(since we're a tourist destination) were mostly everyday I can see foreigners (before the pandemic hits).

I had Korean, and other non english nationalities classmates here in the Philippines to study english as it is cheaper here, most of them are nice and I think they don't have problem in the english accent and I just noticed that they really like to be in their own little groups.
I’m a foreigner and I’ve been living here in South Korea for 10 years because of my dad job. Just recently I want to get a new sim for my phone but the owner won’t gave me one since I’m a Filipino. I have alien card but after seeing my passport the shop owner still say no and said that it’s a new policy of the government something. In my thoughts 🤬 Like, what’s your problem with us?
Oh, not only that, recently also, I was applying for a job, then the person interviewing me what’s my nationality, after saying that I’m a Filipino, he then do a judge look. Then told me that they don’t accept Filipino’s and said that That my kind should work on the bar only or something blah blah blah… The discrimination is so 🤬 real. I don’t generalize all korean cause I have korean friends and classmates also but most Koreans do judge your skin color, your nationality, your look and everything. Especially oldies. Well, some younger ones but mostly oldies. It’s hurt.
The fact that Koreans want to travel and live here in the Philippines for good and Filipinos are giving them a warm welcome. But when Filipinos go to Korea, it's the complete exact opposite.
Not really, watch her video on her experiences when she was growing up in Pinas, people made fun of her eyes. Her other Korean friends also said the same. There are racists in all countries, kahit sa Pinas.

Here in middle-east, we combine languages like a combination of English, Arabic, Hindi, Malayam, Nepali, Tagalog. If we need to break each sentence or word it's okay as long as we understand each other (with a full-body sign, not just a normal hand gesture while speaking). Especially here in the construction field because we deal with lots of Labourers who barely speaks English.
I love this content. An eye opener to everyone. It's a good thing that korean and Filipinos talk about this which is not really new for us, Asians. I hope this content help us to have an awareness to respect each other even though we have different nationalities. Respect is the Key for peace. Life is to short. Spread love and kindness. 💖

THEIR CONVERSATION is just to soften discrimination BUT they did not really talked about the REAL discrimination against Filipinos. OFW is the definition of people's perception of Filipinos not only in Korea but other parts of the world.

This is what I learn from my college professor the defiition of communication - is transmitting ideas and information from one person to another by means of pictures, figure, graphs, photo, signs, words, (and accent is not included in there) as long as you understand the person

Plus you can really see how organized she is, I love her editing style as it's like a book, there's the topic and sub-topics where we can follow along the main idea that they are discussing. @@uwuwu7553 It's gradually changing because of TV Shows exposing the beauty of the Philippines to Koreans. In 2019, South Koreans was the no.1 international visitors in the country, mostly they visit Cebu.

Although biases may be a natural leaning of individual being, we have to help avert a certain bias from becoming cultural or xenophobic, leadership and education gives the momentum and sharing of experiences like this is a source for learning.
I remember way back 2013 in our church in Philippines there were korean visitors because we had youth camps every year and we became friends with one of them and she admitted that her friends and most of her fellowmen always look down the Filipinos they think they are superior than us higher than us and etc and I proved that the time when we were about having our dinner they didn't want to eat with us instead they eat jn a much better place than us. And I have seen some of the korean artists mocks us the way we talk in english.

It’s kinda ironic because their English is just as bad and they go to the Philippines to study English to become better at it. Unfortunately their stereotypes will be there until the Philippines becomes more stable. Maybe in a few decades it will get better but right now I highly doubt it
Bruh that is messed up! It was May of 2018, when I was in Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan. I was heading to the boarding area and two Korean ahjummas were behind me. I suddenly realized that my boarding pass went missing so I had to go back and find it. When suddenly, the other ahjumma tapped me on my shoulder asking me if the boarding pass she found was mine. I looked at it and it was definitely mine. The other ahjumma also helped me with my other bag since I had difficulty carrying it. I was really thankful to the both of them. I don't remember their faces anymore but thanks to them I boarded my plane back to the Philippines on time. ❤️❤️🇰🇷🇰🇷
My wife is from Davao and you are right about Filipinos and English. She's been speaking it all her life. There are kids now whose only main language is English! And even in the heart of the country on a little island where you don't know the dialect they'll speak English. For Asian countries this is massive. It make the Philippines stand out for foreigners like you say. But it's also great to learn Filipino languages because you can just use English when you don't know how to say things. You end up with Taglish for example.
K-dramas are the romanticized versions of the actual South Korean society, it happens but maybe in a 1 of thousands or millions. And yes, they are correct we have all innate racism, no matter how someone denies to themselves, it really exists inside us whether verbal or not. People tend to be judgmental for something they don't know or new to them.
Although some recent Kdramas right now uncover the dark reality of their society like school pressure or cults like Sky Castle and Save me ,Kpop industry, Lgbtq and many taboos (problems in life ) I mean even if they are dramatized they uncovered the reality of their lives not just fairytales or something like what past kdramas do. I mean even if I'm a fan of Kdramas I don't really view South Korea as that in real life where everythng is unicorns and rainbows which is definitely wrong

On point to Ate Caryl! "Subway" really. I REALLY APPRECIATE THE TRANSPO. Always on time and very convenient when you travel around Seoul and even nearby provinces.
As a tourist in korea, i was treated nicely.. At the subway, a korean senior gave me 20K won! I was so happy thank you seoul! Hehe

Me too i feel alot of discrimination here in korea.. just because im foreigner.. and im not good in korean language.. because im different to them and also because of my body type im fat i gave birth to twins i feel so hard losing my weight more my stomach.. they keep looking at me also of how i wear but im wearing decent clothes i dont understand hay :(... but when korean came to philippines Filipino people adores and love koreans alot
1:23 MANY in Manila, Cebu City, and in Subic Bay. Many Korean owned restaurants and businesses only have Korean words in their business buildings. They say they only cater only to Koreans even though they're in the PHILIPPINES! Sadly the government doesn't do nothing about it....
To be honest, I personally have never been exposed to racism even if I've lived and worked in the US. Even when I burried my father in Missouri. As an asian, people's looks did not matter to me. Even if I had a conversation with a cousin about how "poor" the philippines was, I told him we had five maids.
I personally had a maid who would looke after me. He shut up after hearing I had my own personal maid.
I really came back to this vlog just to say that he's the guy in the Squid Game. I remember him because of what he shares here. He's a good actor. 💖 Ang galing galing 💖
People always handle things they aren't familiar in bad ways, it's been going on since the dawn of time, and it will always happens, we have to start practicing being open-minded to other cultures from other parts of the world, if we do that, then we will be okay.

It's true that (MANY and not some) Koreans look down on Filipinos. You will notice this on their choice of words that they use with you and their body language. They would even be surprised and look you up and down if you dress better (or in designers) than them. That's when I was there. Here, the older men have this thinking that every Filipino can be paid off. The younger ones feel like they're oppas from K-dramas. The few Koreans that I personally know to be decent are the ones that stayed in the PH for a long time. It's actually not about racism but superiority (or the feeling of). Just because they don't say it, doesn't mean it's not true.

Hello! Yes, I've experienced racism in Korea 3x, for being Filipino. Twice of which at the airport in Busan. One of them was very traumatic!! It still shivers down my spine after 9 years...

I'm Fil-Am (Filipino American), born, raised and educated in the US and working as an Assistant Professor for almost 15 years in South Korea and this happens to me all the time. From very young kids aged 5 or 6 all the way to the elders in their sixties and seventies. And most of the stares are not friendly, but rather disgust because they assume that I'm from a third world country and probably working in a factory, thus in their eyes, beneath them.
I think it's a BS excuse that most Koreans use when they stare at foreigners in South Korea. There are too many foreigners living here already and it still happens everywhere. I believe Koreans just use this excuse (that they're staring because of curiosity or because it is new) as a means to normalize and perpetuate the action towards foreigners. Koreans know when they stare at foreigners, they can get away with it. They also know that they are making the foreigner feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed, and that's the main purpose of it. And rather than acknowledge that it is wrong and shouldn't be done, when confronted, Koreans revert to this BS excuse of "I'm just curious" in order to save face.
The fact that the host of the video uses this reasoning as well just proves that this excuse has been used and passed down from one generation to the next. The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging there is one and until Koreans admit that staring at foreigners is not done out of curiosity, it will continue.
Filipinos are known for being friendly and generous, so I actually love giving gifts for every season like, pepero day, valentines, etc. And almost everyday, I might have missed a day or a week for 4yrs but I love giving candies, chocolates or coffee to my co workers and someone asked me, "Are you rich? i don’t believe “we’re all racist”, but I will say we are all prejudice or have prejudices. I personally don’t think we should say “we’re all racist” coz that would almost normalize racism. Which is isn’t and shouldn’t be. Awesome video guys!
Normalize or not, that's another topic. But if we were born as human, we're all racist. That's just fact. A classic experiment would be prisons. When humans are thrown back in to such state, raw and primitive instinct will kick in. That's why, in the prisons, inmates group themselves by race.
Ben I hear you, but I respectfully disagree. I feel that racism is not human nature, but nurtured. I don’t see toddlers hating on other toddlers for being different. Therefore it’s difficult for me to accept that humans are racist in nature.

As to English communication, as long as both person talking to each other, do understand even if there's an accent, there's nothing to worrv about.

I think Korean who have racist minded are ignorant people. Most of racist Koreans are living in such a small world and lack of informational situation.
At the first time, I encountered Korean racists who are judging my Filipino husband bad, I was so angry at them. But now I feel patheic with them.

I also teach Korean students and I must say that some of them are racist because they are not that expose to other culture. i think educating them properly will definitely change everything in the future. So keep on teaching seonsaengnims! 💗

Fascination or ignorance is different from racism. From fascination and ignorance, you learn differences and try to embrace them as soon as you discover them. Racism, it's learning differences and despise them. It's not wrong to be ignorant or fascinated, what's wrong is when you despise what's different.

I'm from the PH and I'm ashamed to admit to being insensitive to other cultures during my younger years back in the 90s. Particularly to indians and chinese folks. We call them 'Bumbay' and 'Intsik beho' for reasons I didn't really know. All that gradually changed when I became friends with quite a lot of them in school. I remember during a soccer match tinisod ako ng kalaban, by tinisod I mean the soccer version of tinisod AKA sinipa... *Guess who was there to defend me? My indian friend.*

In high school, special PE ako since I was getting bullied all the time. Korean yung tennis buddy ko and he was one of my best buddies back then. Joo Hyuk if you're reading this, tara laro minsan. HAHAH.

is that racist though? I've heard my parents use those words to refer to Indian and Chinese people. There's isn't anything derogatory being said when they mention those terms though. I feel like those words are different from a word like "egoy" which kinda implies an ignorant/ uneducated person of African descent. If "egoy" is used, it probably means something derogatory but using the word "negro" (pronounced the Filipino/ Spanish way, of course) or "itim" wouldn't be racist.
