Hey guys! Every time I visit franchise chains in other countries around the world, I always get amused by how different it is from one another. The biggest difference in Korean and Filipino franchise chains for me is the existence of RICE on the menu. HAHA! #riceislife lol 🤣 So for today's video I went to this Korean KFC store to compare and contrast how it varies from PH KFC. Please let me know if you want me to continue this series! I could be going to McDonald's, Panda Express, etc. 💖 Hope you enjoy! 🙌

Well my guess, the explanation why "rice" is so common in Philippine menu aside from it is the favorite staple, is because our country for a very long time is basically an Agricultural-driven economy unlike South Korea which is now very industrialized.
Our country had just transitioned from being Agricultural-driven to Industrial in late few years ago so I think the rice as most common staple would still stay for quite more decades to go.

So here we usually do GCash and Paymaya or Credit and Debit Card in some fastfoods situated in prime locations cuz those branches have card readers. Mixed then put around 2.5 glass of water. Then put 2 knorr chicken cubes. Keep the low heat and keep stirring. Put a half teaspoon of pepper. Mix until it becomes more gravy like. 4:50 Most of the fast food restaurants in PH are already innovated. Like Jollibee, McDonald's, KFC, they already have the kiosk where you can place your order on your own and pay with card. Besides, you can also pay with card or through other online payments on the counter to the cashier. And most restaurants accept card, too. I don't know but we rarely transact with cash now. Most of the time, debit/credit cards or other online payments like gcash, paymaya, paypal, gems, etc. Even the bills are paid online and on other kiosks at convenience stores or at the mall. Hope this helps for future references.

Well, in Asia, local franchises of international fast food companies get special permission to adapt their menu to the tastes of the locals. Rice is the cheapest of starch alternatives (compared to breads, French fries, mashed potatoes, etc), so it's really understandable. I read before that McDonald's introduced rice in their menu in Indonesia.

I've tried KFC in Malaysia and they offered rice as well.
There are 2 option of rice available, chicken rice (rice cooked in chicken broth) and the Malaysian's favorite, Nasi Lemak ( rice cooked in coconut milk).
I really enjoyed the Nasi Lemak version as I never tasted such deliciously flavored rice before and they also provided the sambal (chili paste sauce?) which is also nice.
In Singapore, there is sweet potato bun and it's also available in Malaysia too.

When we went to Kuala Lumpur a few years ago for a vacation, I also learned that their KFC didn't have rice either. instead of rice, they'll offer a type of bun (bread). I think same goes in Singapore. I wasn't able to try fastfood in Singapore except when we had breakfast at the airport (Mcdonalds).

Gcash, the electronic wallet service from Globe Telecom, has become widely accepted in most major stores including fast food places due to the pandemic.
Side note, I remember mcdonald's starting to put up kiosks and and accept credit cards even before the pandemic.

Fast food chains in PH now have kiosks. We can pay on counters also have the option to pay using card. It's so sad there's no rice. Hahaha rice is life talaga.
My favorite in KFC is zinger steak. Wish you can taste that one here.

I can't help but admire your choice of meals.. I would love to try them too when I travel..
I just remembered, in my university/college days my lunch is a cup of rice swimming in a sea of gravy with one piece 🍗 chicken. It was my reward for coming to school everyday.. Those were the happiest carefree days of my life.. .
This is really relatable and fun Jessica 💖 looking forward on your next vids.

Oh its been a long time since you left Phils! Coz here in Manila most of the fast food like Mcdonalds have the same kiosk. You’ll order and pay instantly from that big touchpad with GCash, Paymaya or Credit/Debit Card. Surely, you will be surprised with the lot of changes that just happened here. Hope you’ll see soon!

Jessica hasn't been to the Philippines for a while and it shows. lol. We can now make cashless payments via kiosks in fastfood restaurants and I think you can also use Gcash to pay in some franchise branches? I'm not sure because I often pay via kiosk but I see the Gcash sign by the door in many restos

Most of Filipinos pay cash back then but when the pandemic comes restaurant starts expanding to digital/phone wallets as well, if you know Gcash, Paymaya, Paypal etc. where you can just scan the QR code and pay for the meal.
Edit: this is not only for restaurants but for other kinds of shops as well
