I have a 2023 Lightening XLT. When I saw your video I did some research and that’s not much more expense than a ICE F150 taillight replacement when they have blindside monitoring.
So i just saw part of your video about the rear lens, & having a back-up radar sensor, etc. So ive worked on radars (not for vehicles), and that lens is basically a radome for the back up radar sensor. It acts as a protector, and can be designed to be tuned such that it optimizes operation at the freq of the sensor behind it. In your case, I think its almost $2k because its a single assembly piece with the entire taillight.
@homerj2017 No. Installing LED in halogen housing displays a poor light pattern. Yes, maybe the driver gets a bit more light, but usually the altered light pattern blinds oncoming traffic.
Yes, in large part because of how much manufacturers lose their shirts on EV manufacturing and sales. Every F150 Lightning costs Ford about $60k USD in net losses. They need to offset those loses on their ICE sales. This is why your regular F150 is $80k nowadays.
seems like you could easily protect that tail light instead of making it bulge out and become a target. You'd be better off sacrificing the quarter panel than a tail light with those prices. I have the Ford E Transit and so far so good.
@@Thingswithwheels1 The repair/replacement is real. I have seen some of your other videos. I can get a 2023 Lariat Lightning ER for about $530 a month. Brad New!!!
I have the exact same truck. Just an FYI same for gas trucks if you have LED lights. Any GM, Ram or Ford head lights will cost you over 5K if you have the whole light and modules changed. Friend’s neighbor was quoted $5,500 for a Ram headlight.
Had an Audio A7 , girl ran a stop sign and hit me in the front driver. I didnt think it was that bad as ive seen other cars way worse get repaired but Insurance totaled it. Each headlight was almost 6k and hood was 7 that is before parking sensors modules and what not. Something a same year Honda wouldve cost 3k Total to fix added up to almost 30k on the Audi 😡🤯
If you have safety glass coverage, that should be a covered claim and deductible is usually less than your comp deductible and should not count against you. Talk with your agent and not the claim department
EXPECT auto insurance to quadruple... 4x Minor 2022-car accident with a landscaping rock, cost insurance $22,000.00. It took out the passenger front corner plastic, headlight, front tire, strut and steering rack, and broke the engine block oil filter mount.
So apparently you didn't look at replacement parts cost this time. And anything from the dealer is always going to be a crazy mark up. I'm honestly not surprised. This sounds about right. Cost them so little to make but this is how they make their money. PS. Saying you don't like screaming out electric and having big blue lighting symbols along with a license plate saying EV is a bit contradictory.
Lets hope you don't have my luck. Because if you do, someone will rear end you just after you replace it. Then your insurance will total the whole thing because the cost to replace the bed, and other parts will exceed the trucks value.
@davidlong1182 show me any used Lightning XLT in the country that is being sold for $27000 and I'll believe you. Problem: you can't as they don't depreciate that hard from what I paid. My truck MSRP was just under $59k and I paid $46k brand new. In effect I saved much of the depreciation right out of the gate but thank you for watching.
@Na0uta less common part and nowhere else for the consumer to go. I read that Ford loses $63,000 for every Lightning that is sold, guess they make some of it back in crash part sales haha.
@OmarMurillo-y2d I can 100% afford both; however $5 worth of plastic and a few led lights aren't worth $1700 no matter how much money you have. The reason I'm able to own the truck is because I'm thoughtful about how I spend money and the taillight cost is excessive for what it is. Huge opportunity for the aftermarket. Thanks for watching.
@chrishunt1941 I've had exactly one broken taillamp in 35+ years of driving, so nope the cost of a lens wasn't on my radar when shopping. But I'm so glad you enjoyed the video so much that you wanted to comment: thank you!
@@Thingswithwheels1You are good for responding. Most of these commenters are broke morons who couldn't maintain a lawnmower. Anyway, I love my Lightning ER! Love being the first off the line at red lights and running circles around almost everyone. Thanks for the information in this vid!
Battery operarted vehicles never seem to be worth it to me. Thanks for reenforcing that ideal. Nice looking truck thought. I drive a 2020 chevy 1500 Silveado and i know those towing mirrors are over $1500. Those big blind spot books they call mirrors. Everything is expensive. Looks like your wife didn't hit the car. Someone at the mall hit it while you were shopping. Not your fault only pay the deductable.
Meh, if you can afford the premium price tags of EVs, you can obviously afford the parts that go with them. That Lightning is getting scrapped anyway when the main battery craps out in 10 years. If you're not happy about replacement parts prices now, just wait till you go to sell it in a few years and learn about EV depreciation! Boy, are you in for a shocker then... 🤐
@SevenSixTwo2012 I paid $46k for a truck with heated seats, factory navigation, remote start and 4x4. Battery life is far longer than you expect, but using your figures if I get 10 good years out of it and it's worth nothing it was still a great value. Thanks for watching.
@82raptor respectfully I paid $46k for a brand new 452hp 775lb tq truck that goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and gets in the neighborhood of 60 mpg (equivalent cost). With home charging it's an absolute win. And my other cars are a Wrangler, Expedition and a Mustang GT.

This is not unique to the electric cars. Porsche 11 headlights are $6000. Everything’s expensive nowadays.
When I to replace one of my headlight cover on a Sierra, it cost me $1400. Was just the cover but you had to get the whole assembly.
So i just saw part of your video about the rear lens, & having a back-up radar sensor, etc.

Normal price. If you vehicle has blind side monitoring. Regular F-150 light would be about the same Maybe a little higher for EV.
Much cheaper on eBay. OEM parts from dealers have a ‘go away’ price.
Not limited to the lightning. Any F150 model with the blind spot and LED taillights is in that price range. Sadly, haven't found aftermarket LED (yet)
Headlight for my wife's Subaru was like $1500 CAD. Gone are the days of a bulb behind a lens :)
'What! No LED headlights on a 50k car. That's a hard pass'
LED headlight for my 2022 car + $1100?
Not true.Halogen light bulb still exist.Replace them with led bulbs

Wow! something I didn’t consider.
what did the mirror look like after the damage and what did that cost?
@BR549_o7 it has a scratch on it! German engineering. And a brand new rear mirror assembly is $259 from VW, under $60 in the aftermarket.
Every automobile manufacturer everywhere electric or not ... prices through the roof

@@Thingswithwheels1 Well its a nice truck either way. And I can't wait till its both affordable and practical. Or I strike it rich and can get one.
Pretty typical for any led lights sold as an assembly ev truck or not
Most of these parts have to be bought new so that they are “programmed” or something to the car. No more used parts. Gas vehicles too.
