This reminds me of the part in Harry Potter where he puts the egg under the water and you hear the mermaids sing
I THOUGHT THE SAME THING !!!
“Come seek us where our voices sound
We cannot sing above the ground
An hour long you’ll have to look
To discover what we took”
omg yes
Damn! You got it first! 😅 I thought of it, too. Goblet of Fire. 💕
YES SAME
Suddenly the shape of cathedrals makes sense
the shape of cathedrals was actually meant to accommodate a large amount of pilgrims and the ceilings had to be shaped that way to accommodate the height of the walls and the thinness of them where the stained glass is.

Imagine in a epic fantasy esque, when the hero sacrifies there is no sound even the sound from the magic or swords clashing arent vivid enough and all you can here is the hero's dead love interest is singing through a peaceful flashback

Right next to the cathedral in my city, there is this small chapel. The entire building is no bigger than a small two story house.
Next to the massive cathedral, it almost looks like a tool shed next to a normal house.
There are no sermons held there, but it's open during the day.
It's a thousand years old, built by architects from Konstantinople.
It has a reverb lasting 7 seconds.
A single voice sounds like a choir in there.
It's one of my favourite places on earth.
rockyblacksmith that sounds absolutely incredible.
@@analogbug16 And describing it doesn't do it justice by a longshot.

@@quentincant904 Paderborn, Germany. The chapel is the "Bartholomäuskapelle".

@Flois Helfen the song is called "How Can I Keep From Singing"

Now you understand why choirs in medieval times were so loved. Hearing all the harmonies inside such a good-acoustical environment must have been magical.
@@SirBelmerD yes, but it started being a thing then and it lasts until today because of how god-like it sounded to them in medieval times.
@@theofano_galani to me it still sounds like that HERETIC !
Good acoustics + trained singers being rare means its likely the only time the average peasant even heart a proper concert (bard at your locak watering hole doesnt count).
@@deusvult3103 Ah the poor one track mind.
Were you under the impression people didn't understand before you explained it to them? 😆
I struggle with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. My brain is one jumbled place, as is my emotions. The only thing that can completely calm me is music, specifically, worship music. Every time I need to feel peace and clarity, I plug in my earbuds, play this video, sit back, and close my eyes. Malinda using her beautiful voice to uplift praises to the Lord is absolutely stunning. Thank you, Malinda.
God bless you dear 🥺♥️
The reason for your peace when listening to this music is that the Holy Spirit is there when she is singing-its all spirit.Anxiety, depression and PTSD are all spiritual and can be conquered through your love of Jesus.Think of the negative as black paint and Jesus as water. When water is poured onto black paint it loses its darkness although not entirely.Jesus gets rid of that black paint in its entirety.I cured schizophrenia(similiar symptoms to PTSD)through a simple prayer"God I will follow your will for the rest of my days if you just remove the voices:As soon as the prayer ended there were no more voices and until this day-nothing.Of course the devil is stubborn so you may have to try different angles but approach the wording of the prayer with calm and confidence.Hope this helps.
Andre Lotter i really believe this! ♥️ thanks for the light and truth
Bless your heart.
Andre Lotter I’m truly so thankful that prayer worked for you!!!! I would ask for caution as you recommend this method to others however. As it comes across to me as, this worked for me, do this and God will do the same for you. (Which may not at all be the message you intended, please forgive the misconstrued message if that is the case!!) The Holy Spirit works differently for what He calls us to and heals us from. Consider Paul who sought relief from the thorn in his side. God effectively said no, focus on me. At times PTSD, although I do not believe at all given by God, will be used to refine a person and not removed by prayer. I don’t say that as God can’t, my caution is at times people hear your story, or stories like yours, and get the message they don’t have enough faith if they aren’t healed. Which is not always the case. I’ve battled, with God by my side, PTSD for almost half my life. I don’t believe for a moment it wasn’t removed because I lacked faith or the correct prayer. It’s a very painful tool God has used to bless me beyond imagination.
As I said I’m so thankful for your healing and praise God He removed that thorn!! Just a different perspective.
Even if the cathedral was empty, God should have resurrected someone to give you a well deserved round of applause for that beautiful performance.
That would be necromancy, I guess :-D
Ahhh yes, nothing say "Congratulations, well done" quite like a centuries-old corpse coming back to life to clap.
That would be quite disturbing actually lol. Especially because there is are several bodies in the Washington National Cathedral.

Im afraid the vampires (undead) cannot enter churches.
Okay story time: this song is sung every year by the treble choir at
my old highschool. and every single year at the end of year concert, all the alumni are invited up to sing it with the current students. it means so much to all of us, so needless to say im currently sitting in a lab class, trying not to cry from how beautiful this is. it totally caught me off guard, and is the best surprise ive had in a while.
I need the song's name, please help me!
Ismael Vargas-Osiris it’s called how can i keep from singing
Imagine hozier singing in this cathedral!!
Yooow
I mean he has been begging to be taken to church (v bad, sry)
yesss a fellow wasteland baby
i just saw him in concert 😭 it would be divine
Counterintuitive, because he's already in the church.
Initial part is way mesmerising then the second song.
Thanks for likes 😁
Anyone know the first song's name?
Both are great
Agreed
I agree , it gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat.
AVE MARIS STELLA
Wow, just wow. I'm not a person of faith but I can't imagine a better song for you to have chosen in that venue. What a perfect way to to not only showcase the beautiful gift of song you have been given but to honor the space in which you shared it. From the depths of my heart, thank you for sharing this. The day is a bit brighter for this video ❤
Andre Skanes I 1000% agree
Neither am I but she sounds like an angel
@@frenne_dilley in my opinion, that spirit is something like the soul. The soul is whithin everyone, whether they're religious or not, and I believe that it is part of god's creation.
It's just an opinion too, so yeah :)
God bless you and have a wonderful day!
Religion is the one that allows the creation of spaces like this dotted around the landscape.
Materialism and the cold sterility of pragmatism will not allow the existence of a wonderfully acoustic area in a village in the middle of England for example, but you have wonderfully serene churches wherein people can sing their hearts to the lord in such innocuous places.
So strange how people feel the need to say they aren't of faith or an atheist before praising a religious piece/art/music, etc. You don't need the disclaimer. Just say you enjoy the song or whatever.
I actually think the sound is even better in the first one
I think there were two aspects that made the first version so much more stunning:
- Very old songs like Gregorian chants are in a musical mode that we do not hear in pop songs. Because our ears are so habituated to the major/minor key system, gregorian chants feel like a mystery for us :D
- The acoustics were better (super reverb/echo) + mobile phone recorder made it even cooler.
HeyBerrie so true! I also think perhaps since the Washington National Cathedral is so massive it would be better suited to a choir to fill the space and get that beautiful reverb
The National Cathedral is too big for a single voice.
Yes the church in Spain
Don't get me wrong, your rendition of the full song is stunning, but being honest I actually love the clip you play first even more. There's something about your use of the dorian scale coupled with such incredible reverb that cuts right to my soul, it's breathtaking
What was the song in the first clip

How can i keep from singing, lyrics:
My life flows on in endless song;
Above earth's lamentation,
I hear the sweet, though far-off hymn
That hails a new creation
Through all the tumult and the strife,
I hear that music ringing
It finds an echo in my soul
How can I keep from singing?
What though my joys and comforts die?
I know my Savior liveth
What though the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?
I lift my eyes, the cloud grows thin
I see the blue above it
And day by day this pathway smooths,
Since first I learned to love it,
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart
A fountain ever springing
For all things are mine since I am his
How can I keep from singing?
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?
Beautiful lyrics. But in this video the parts about Christ is changed/omitted. What a shame.
I was expecting a "God help the outcasts"
That's for Notre Dame de Paris

WTH I saw that viral video and squinted my eyes like "Malinda is that you? No... it can't be"
Malinda, your song is a great comfort after a horrific day, which included watching one of this world's most beloved buildings burn.
You are an angel, and this is just proof of it.
(Edited because apparently I can't spell when distressed.))
Watching this now makes me cry after seeing the news about the Cathedral in Notre Dame burning. Very beautiful singing!
You should try covering "pippin's song" and "in dreams" from lord of the rings. Also guild wars' "fear not this night". I think your voice really fits those song well.
I also got some solid lord of the rings vibes.
Your voice is absolutely incredible!!! And I love the slight Celtic flare you put to this. Your voice is very well suited for Celtic and not many are! PLEASE CONSIDER MORE CELTIC!❤🤩
Great acoustics there. What a space! I live in MD and should get there more.
Always wanted to do something like this but it probably wouldn't have sounded anywhere as amazing as your voice and control
“Honor a space by filling it with sound, and letting the space sing back to you” Lovely put.
Oh my god. I’m in tears. This speaks to me. If anybody thinks differently they can leave. Gospel music has a power that is beyond anything. My liberal fried s will agree, gospel music is underrated and is so powerful
So calm so peaceful i hope the world would be like this
Modern churches are built heavily insulated like a sound booth. It's a shame.
CCR is a shame to Christian Music
Because modern churches are designed with different functions in mind, to which sound amplificating shapes are NOT good.
If a room gives your voice a massive reverb, that's going to sound awesome when you sing, but when you are trying to have a conversation, it makes your words barely intelligeable.
And two different conversations happening in the same space makes this problem even worse. But often times, church services want just such small-scale conversations to happen.
It is a shame in many ways, true, but it is a nessecary process.
The way faith is practiced has changed, and the fascilities for it followed suit.
In this day and age, with so much division, fear, and hatred, in the news, and on the internet, you always bring us a vision of hope, love, joy, and togetherness, which is so desperately needed. God Bless You Malinda, and thank you for always helping to make the world a safer, happier place. We Love you.
If I’d start singing in a church, Jesus would take off the nails from the cross and plug his ears while screaming “oh Father haven’t I already suffered enough?”
HAHA!! NICE!
😂
We've all down worse to Him than that, or he wouldn't have been up there.
Or He might just come over to where you were, sit until you were done and then say, "Thank you for singing to me. It was beautiful."
@@charlesgrisham3816 I don’t think so.. for what I know he went through a lot but he wasn’t deaf 😅

The acoustics in the National Cathedral (and others like it) are beautiful, yes! I do remember performing in spaces like that with choirs that I sung in, or with my trumpet accompanying choirs and they can be a real challenge to sing/play in. With any decent sized group it can be a real challenge to stay together (the echoes make it real tough). Especially if you're separated by any distance (like with antiphonal groups like baroque composers often used.). They tell you to watch the conductor and go by what you see, not what you hear, but that's MUCH easier said than done. Also in a group, you balance your volume by what you hear (3 trumpets can overpower 1 poor flute very easily!)
I did that song with my choir! You did it so well :)
This is lovely, and I've always had a soft spot for that song.
This literally made me cry. So beautiful.
