As I was strolling down the footpath, trying to decide which pub to choose, I heard some traditional Irish music start up in one of them. 1/4 Irish here, but my dad was the pipe major of his band and my weekends were basically at any given Celtic festival (I live four block from the Irish Heritage Center in my city) so this warmed my heart and I loved this!
This was so awesome. I'm a BIG fan of irish music. I especially loved Drivers License as an aire. I love Irish aires. My favorite song of all time is Danny Boy.
Nostalgic stereotypes aside... would it be unkind to let Misty Jade know that "Danny Boy" was written by an Englishman, in England. (Danny Boy - Frederic Weatherly, 1913) My favourite Irish song is "My little Horse", followed by "Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me" by U2 and "C'est la Vie" by Bewitched.
@@donkmeister You're right of course, that was my fault. I listen to all kinds of Celtic and English music, so they sometimes get mixed up in my head. Especially since Londonderry Air, the music, is Irish. So I suppose I was half right?
I'm from Scotland and in our early High School music lessons, we were taught a lot about Scottish music. We had to compose a jig, a strathspey and a reel. It's so interesting to see the crossovers between traditional Scottish music and Irish music. Absolutely fascinating! We also had Scottish Ceilidh dancing in our P.E lessons and instead of a yearly Prom we had a Christmas Ceilidh. Never realised how cool it was until I met other people at uni who weren't from Scotland!
I love how you can so obviously see the two of you having fun while you're working on this. My music theory background is severely lacking (I'm working on it, but its a sloooooow process) but it's fascinating hearing you dissect the songs and put them back together in new ways, especially the 4/4 vs 12/8 of Levitating.
I‘m a huge Ireland fan and fan of Irish music. This Video makes me happy! Its so great you guys keep this traditional music alive and share it with the world! Glad I came across your TH-cam account tonight! Can you please transfer more and whole songs into Irish aires, reels & jigs?? 💚💚💚
IT's so good, to hear your music again :D. Great video as always and I find it quite ironic that in GTS usually Malinda "clones" herself, but here there is just 1 Malinda and like 20 Cullens all playing different instruments.

Ah! Malinda! A beautiful lass with loads of talent! Her timing is magnificent and flouting is delicious! Glad I stumbled into your Wellerman and it took me here! I'm eternally subscribed!
Ahh this was great! There's something so nostalgic about Irish, or more particularly Keltic music for me. My mom's a huge fan of it and even played the tin whistle for a while.
Just recently found this insanely cool dude's music, and now I find him here! I love it. He's making me seriously consider learning irish flute. Or whistle. Or both.
i don't have friends, but eyes closed listening to this(especially the last song) made me feel like having a D&D session with my friends* where we stumbled upon a tavern, no hesitation already banging our heads, jamming, jug of mead/ale for everyone. and i haven't even played D&D once. would love to
This was so coooooool! I have diluted Irish heritage by this generation haha, but I've always been fascinated by it. Levitating definitely sounded more recognizable as a reel, but these were all amazing.
Awesome! I've always liked Irish, Scottish, and Celtic music! Also, this became Bluegrass music when it hit America. Some songs stayed the same, but others developed into a unique music beat, often more 4/4 than beats of 3. All instruments are acoustic and include bass, fiddle, banjo, and other acoustic strings and softer instruments. Percussion is often limited to brushes on a snare, sometimes sticks. Another offshoot is gospel songs in Bluegrass fashion with complex, dense harmonies that would melt your heart. One of my favorite Bluegrass tunes is familiar to every Country Music fan is "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," a tune that lends itself to solos. Another I discovered was performed by Steve Martin (one of the original Saturday Night Live comedians) and his Bluegrass band. The title, "So Familiar." I thrill when I hear something with the slightest inkling of Irish music.
Yayyyyy! Thank you thank you thank you ugg I've waited so long to hear you play that irish flute again. Make an original song with some of this irish influence please it would be so good!
I love Irish music so much, I’m a farmer and I’m constantly singing Irish tunes (and sea shanties) when I’m out on the tractor. Mostly Irish rebellion and troubles music. Kinky boots is one of my favorites, as well as The Lark In the Morning.

As an irish dancer myself i know that the songs can be boring and irritating. I love the fact that she can turn a boring treble reel and turn it into something amazing! 🍀🇮🇪
“You can be jaunty or cool. You can’t be both”
Unless ... you claim jaunty as cool!!
I don't know. I think jaunty is too happy to be really cool.
This was so much fun, as I expected, and I want more (so now you two need to release the full music videos, not just the clips you had in this one...please?). What I wasn't expecting (which is dumb on my part because you've done this in the past) was how informative this was; I really appreciate that. Thank you!
I need a full version of Levitating like right now
3:22 - Drivers License
5:24 - Blinding Lights
7:05 - Levitating (Slide Version)
8:28 - Levitating (Slow Reel Version)
1/4 Irish here, but my dad was the pipe major of his band and my weekends were basically at any given Celtic festival (I live four block from the Irish Heritage Center in my city) so this warmed my heart and I loved this!
"when every Irish American likes to pretend we are more Irish than we are" Never a more truthful statement. lol
This was so awesome. I'm a BIG fan of irish music. I especially loved Drivers License as an aire. I love Irish aires. My favorite song of all time is Danny Boy.
I'm glad you like the country stereotype of my country
Have a great Lá sona Phádraig
(It means happy St Patrick's day in Irish)
Nostalgic stereotypes aside... would it be unkind to let Misty Jade know that "Danny Boy" was written by an Englishman, in England.
(Danny Boy - Frederic Weatherly, 1913)
My favourite Irish song is "My little Horse", followed by "Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me" by U2 and "C'est la Vie" by Bewitched.
@@donkmeister You're right of course, that was my fault. I listen to all kinds of Celtic and English music, so they sometimes get mixed up in my head. Especially since Londonderry Air, the music, is Irish. So I suppose I was half right?
@@mistyjade6720 The Derry Air.
Can we PLEASE get full versions of these.
This is the stuff I’m here for! I loved hearing the tunes in a different style while learning about what makes the music so distinct!
i'm from syria, and i'm not really raised to have an interest in irish culture, but yet every time i watch a vedio of yours, i got cought by the beauty of your eyes malinda, and i keep watching till the end enjoying the sence of your delicate soul.
much love, and i wish you peace.
Ah! Malinda! A beautiful lass with loads of talent! Her timing is magnificent and flouting is delicious!
Glad I stumbled into your Wellerman and it took me here! I'm eternally subscribed!
*Let’s be honest, we were not expecting to LOVE this as much as we did* 😂
Neither was I; but it's Malinda. What are you gonna do? ;)
@@MadMusician Malinda and Cullen Vance are both very awesome.👍😁
honestly i was. I'm a sucker for irish music
Or whistle. Or both.
i don't have friends, but eyes closed listening to this(especially the last song) made me feel like having a D&D session with my friends* where we stumbled upon a tavern, no hesitation already banging our heads, jamming, jug of mead/ale for everyone. and i haven't even played D&D once. would love to
Love seeing talented people working together and explaining the process. Bravo, keep it up.
This is awesome! Would love to hear you collab on some Irish-style original songs
This was so coooooool! I have diluted Irish heritage by this generation haha, but I've always been fascinated by it. Levitating definitely sounded more recognizable as a reel, but these were all amazing.
I now play the bodhran for a local Irish dance group. "How hard could it be," I thought. You were right, harder than one would think.
all three covers were amazing. I would LOOOOVE a full video cover of each song! Congrats!
Goosebumps through the whole thing! Absolutely stunning!!!!
I wish I could like this a hundred thousand times! It was such fun listening and learning!
Can we stop for a sec to appreciate the absolutely BEAUTIFUL "talking voice" she has? (apart from singing amazingly)
I sure hope Dua Lipa hears the Reel and Jig of her song--- just soooo good!
Celtic music, sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's sad, but it's always beautiful and full of feeling.
The title, "So Familiar."
I thrill when I hear something with the slightest inkling of Irish music.
I love that one of his instruments is just clapping!!! 😂
Yayyyyy! Thank you thank you thank you ugg I've waited so long to hear you play that irish flute again. Make an original song with some of this irish influence please it would be so good!
Having just finished an Irish Dance class, I’m very proud to know a lot of these facts
I love Irish music so much, I’m a farmer and I’m constantly singing Irish tunes (and sea shanties) when I’m out on the tractor. Mostly Irish rebellion and troubles music. Kinky boots is one of my favorites, as well as The Lark In the Morning.
First time watching this channel and I had a great time watching this. Watching Cullen Vance having a great time on video was mesmerizing! Thank you both
❤❤❤
The green glitches in the video at 3:36 are probably Malinda's attempts trying to Irishify the world! I see you, Malinda!!
