Thanks for sharing your video. We just bought a nine week old rooster for our 12 girls so I’m watching so many videos on how to introduce him. I’m glad I came across your channel
@@Growing_Groceries (I made this comment 6 months ago and I kinda found out more) but I guess when a rooster starts pecking the ground like there’s food there and when it starts peeping it’s telling the hens there’s food here so it can do the dance to impress the hen I guess. Or when the hen is distracted by (I guess food or its looking for it) the rooster makes it move and jumps onto the hen to mate the hen

I have a silver wynadotte she a hen but she difficult at times she likes to be a bully I don't know why she like that she come to us after she was full grown other than she alright hen
I will hatch out some barn yard mix chicks this spring. I’m not concerned with keeping the breeds “true”. I actually think the mixes are more fun because you never know what they will look like. If my concern was hatching chicks to sell, that would be a different story.
@@Growing_Groceries I am currently having chicks of RIR There are total 12. Two are male and other female. But colorful flock looks more attractive. I am not sure how to maintain the multiple breeds together and at the same time have the pure breed
I loved your channel, even though I don't understand the words. I love farming 🌴🌲, goats 🐐, chickens 🐓 and sheep 🐏 You are a persistent girl. I have chickens that are mixed with Americana. Some of them are pretty big. I was told they are Easter Eggers. We’ll see. I have no idea how many eggs to expect from these hens. I am incubating six more eggs to see what I get again. I am in the process of building my flock! This is my second flock. My first was a flock of nine, three each of black Austrolorps, Buff Orpington and Barred Rocks. The Orpington and the Barred Rocks got big. The Austrolorps didn’t get as big and weren’t my favorites. They were very skittish and unfriendly.
I have 8 chickens and the run is 10’x20’. They don’t stay in there 100% of the time though. Only when I’m not home or if I have my dog outside as she is still a bit jumpy around them :)

It’s preferred to give them a few days to get accustomed to each other, close so they can see/hear each other but separated so they can’t peck. Then one evening just after dusk when the hens are sleepy and roosting, you take the rooster in and set him in to roost with the hens overnight and they “wake up” together. There will be skirmishes between the rooster & dominant hens initially but they should settle in and with the right rooster, you have happy hens.
It is preferred to give them a few days to get accustomed to each other rather than just turning them loose in with the hens but there’s more than one right way often or variations of what is considered the best/right way to do something. But I prefer to introduce the rooster to the hens a bit slower. First, have them caged close so they can see/hear each other but separated so they can’t peck. Do this for a few days. This is second in my life seeing hen pecking rooster.

Thank you! I hope the video was helpful!
Fun fact when a rooster pecks the ground and starts peeping and looks around walks around, its trying to get a hen to come over to mate it
Oh really? I hadn’t heard that. I always heard they are supposed to do a little dance, but I have yet to see that.
I'm gonna try that

He’s a handsome rooster :) we are not allowed roosters as we live in town but love seeing others! Hope they get along good!
Thank you! They all get along great :)

😄😄 Oh yes I will be a gentleman
Excellent looking rooster
You are keeping different breeds of chickens but brought one rooster
Will you breed further chicks?

Is the rooster a light brahma
He is actually a black laced silver Wyandotte. He has been a great addition to our flock, so far!

How many chickens do you have? Total not meaning any disrespect, but the run seems small.

Stop
Seems very stressful to the hens to just let a rooster in with them
He will become their protector against predators

You're doing it wrong in my opinion
No one cares what you think.
