    Hello Nicole ,
    I have an orchid obsession ~ just purchased a shelving system like yours, and lights .
    Hope to get my orchids blooming on a regular basis.
    Most are doing extremely well ~ but it will be nice to see & smell more blooms .
    You have taught me so much about orchid care , I never thought about removing unhealthy roots , or using hydrogen peroxide on a plant .
    But I see a real difference,
    How did you learn so much about orchid care ,
    This is my Favorite Channel ~ thanks for all the tips 🎃

      Hi John! I'm so sorry I missed this comment! Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it 💖 the best thing I can say is be patient with your orchids, some take up to a year to adapt to your conditions, but when they get going, they will be so rewarding! I've had orchids improve their blooms over time. They really are like a fine wine! I learned how to care for orchids from my mom who also grows. I'm also a member of the AOS so I've done some of their webinars and when I'm unfamiliar with something I'll see what I can learn from their website. Really appreciate the wonderful comment, and wish you happy growing 🌺💕

    I have a bellina 'ponkan' that should bloom this coming summer. I am SO excited for that. I also have a bellina coerulea that is a few years away but I have that one mounted and it is doing well on an inorganic mount with a small pebble tray underneath. It's actually putting out a new leaf after only a month. Thank you for this video. I live in South Texas and over or underwatering can be an issue due to the humidity. It is nearly 85% sometimes on a rainy day inside of the house. I have a mini-phal hybrid that came PACKED in moss that I wasn't sure how to repot as a move to bark mix is such a shock. I think I'm going to do small chunks of fir bark with fluffy sphagnum moss as you showed. I'm hoping that will prevent shock as she is in bloom, with absolutely beautiful flowers and I don't want to risk losing her. Thank you for the advice on keeping the sphag 'fluffy'. I really think that will make a huge difference. Your bellina is beautiful!

      Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad the video was helpful! In New York in the summer, some days we get that strong humidity too. Fluffy moss holds on to good moisture but isn't suffocating. Hope your orchids are happy in their new setup!

    She's so pretty and has grown so well for you. I have some summer blooming phals, too. I pot them like you, in fluffy moss but I do put a layer of LECA on the bottom first, in an effort to keep the roots growing at the bottom from becoming soggy if I overwater by mistake. 🥰🥰

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The leca on the bottom for more air at the bottom is a good move! Moss works so well for the hot growing phals. Thanks for watching 🤠

    Hi Nicole! Great video! I just ordered a Bellina from Hausserman due to your recommendation. Wondering if moss or small bark is going to work better for me. Been having issues with my moss staying too wet, despite my efforts to make sure it dries between watering. Decisions, decisions! Lol! Thanks for posting...very helpful video!

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amy! I'm so glad the video was helpful! If moss stays too wet in your environment small bark will work well! These do like to stay a bit moist, I think it's due to the extremely high humidity where they grow in the wild and instead of fully drying out, you can get away with watering as it approaches dryness. Let me know what you end up doing with it! I look forward to seeing it on your channel in the next few months ☺️

    Love your videos! I would love to know how you water and feed your Phals in fluffy moss. You said it gets watered every 4-5 days and I’m curious if you put in a few drops of water or something :). I’m so afraid of overwatering. Thank you!!

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I water with a spray pump when I notice that the moss is starting to get dry, it really depends on your environment. Once a month I flush them in my sink. What I think you can do is, water your Orchid and see how many days it takes for the moss to get crunchy dry, then once you know that, water a day sooner. This should prevent you from over watering. 💓

  • @jaybudd1617

    I purchased a phalaenopsis vilasia this spring and was told it needed new medium. It was growing in bark so I used bark mixture with charcoal,and perlite. It seems to be sulking. Not dying,but no new leaves? Could it be dry too long between waterings?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean the Phalaenopsis Violacea? If so I think a bark and charcoal mixture depending on your enjoyment can tend to dry out very quickly. The summer blooming phals like to stay a bit moist. I'd water more frequently. Another important factor is the light, make sure it's getting bright filtered light, that's another key to make sure it's growing. Lastly, once you have the watering and light down, fertilizer will help it grow. I use MSU fertilizer and give around 150-300 ppm of it while it's growing 3x per month, then flush 1x per month. I hope this helps!

    I had my Bellina on semi hydro, and it was growing pretty well until recently. I noticed that the two bottom leaves are starting to yellow, so I unpotted it and found out that the roots in the leca had rotted. There are still some healthy roots outside of the leca so I cut the dead roots and repotted it into sphagnum moss. Hopefully it'll recover. Do you have any suggestions to ensure it has a full recovery? Thanks! By the way, your Bellina looks absolutely beautiful!

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! The Bellina likes to stay warm. If the roots rotted in semi hydro, either, they were older roots that died off in the transition process, or they new roots that stayed too cool. Leca is slightly cooling and this orchid seems to like it warm to hot. I like to keep mine above 65 degrees, preferably 70 low. Hope it pulls through in the new moss setup!! Appreciate you watching!

  • @Saijai143

    I've got one on the way. Just wondering with the wick you have put in, do you always leave water at the base to be sucked up? Or do you only add water to the base during normal watering rounds?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did a 3 year update on this orchid recently :). I stopped using a wick with sphagnum moss but when it was really hot I would leave about an inch in the reservoir and it would get sucked up very fast. With that said I wouldn't advise it for cooler temps or winter time. Appreciate you watching :)
