    I can’t believe how well your Phals are doing. Just gorgeous! I’m having such poor luck with summer bloomers, they all get stem rot and die after about 2 months. I know you keep your room warm but what humidity do you have? Do you use a humidifier? Thanks so much. 🩷

    Hi Nicole, are you using the light bulbs for lower light level plants on the other shelves ?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, for the other shelves (the 2 and 3 foot ones) I am using the standard lights. When I have cattleyas, I have triple the light strips. With Phals just doubles. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for opening up the world of orchids collection for me. I buy from supermarkets and occasionally garden centres. But the variety is somewhat restricted: phalaenopsis (miniature or large) and Dendrobium . All hybrids I guess. I never see a choice of species. The most exotic I have is the occasionally scented Oncidium (‘dancing lady). Have a super week.

    Glad you discovered plantio la orquideA! They are one of my absolute favorite vendors when it comes to brassavola and cattleya orchids They're crosses just look phenomenal and so far they've been really good about shipping quickly and I've received each plant in very healthy condition. I have 3 of their plants and I love their choices of unique crosses. Love the video! I really like seeing how orchids, especially the actual plant and foliage and how they change over time. Very helpful :) P.S. I think you should def put the encyclias into terra Cotta like you mentioned. Mine do very well like that and the one I have in plastic just doesn't seem to do as well. I find they like a quick wet dry cycle or at least mostly dry. But I will say be careful when repotting and time it just rightwithnew roots coming out of a new growth. I go back after repotting about a month after I repot, and will do a second repotting before the new roots get down into the media too much just because like cattleyas, its possible all of theold roots will die. MOG recommends the 2nd report for cattleyas and after trying that this year when I reported all of my orchids... Wow. Game changer and so right about it. I'm debating just getting rid of all of the roots except for the new ones on catts and cyclias. But that's so terrifying >_< not sure I can go against my instinct to do that Sorry for such a long comment. -L

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the tip on encyclias. I bought several clay pots last week and I'm going to move some of the species and such into them based on recommendations I've gotten. I understand the rationale behind a second repot.

  • @shirleytaylor9267
    @shirleytaylor9267 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thanks for the updates! It’s always interesting to see how the orchids adapt, grow (or not 😢) and reward with beautiful blooms. And thank you for keeping it real with sharing the ones that didn’t thrive. It’s an encouraging reminder for me that despite our efforts to provide the best care, some orchids just may not have been healthy when we purchased them and losing orchids doesn’t mean we were bad plant parents. It’s frustrating when an orchid fails to thrive but I learn more when I think through the possible reasons why and that will help me be more successful the more I get into this hobby. 😊💜

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely! I find that some orchids are just sick or vigorous, and if you start with bad root systems, indoor conditions are brutal for them! They decline very quickly. Appreciate you watching!

  • @judycook4314
    @judycook4314 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I’m afraid to repot my oncidium bc it’s waay overdue and large. It seems as though you don’t use large pots. Do oncidiums like to be kind of snug in a pot?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Depends on the root system, but I like smaller so they can dry faster, but a big pot can work if it has a big root system :) Don't be afraid, give it a shot! They are vigorous.

    Hi Nicole, I have followed your tips and my plants are doing great. One question. Do you keep your humidifier and fan on during the night? If I turn them off, my humidity drops to 40%. Thank you.

      @@ultravice191 thank you :)) I keep the fan going 24/7. I don't run the humidifier in the summer at all, if I run it in the winter, I keep it on all night

    Very daffodil-like in shape. I get a thrill every time I manage to get a reflowering. Well done.

    Hi Nicole, I love the bag babies. I couldn't believe it I found a BL. Yellow bird x bl. Richard Mueller and other cattleya seedlings at Lowes in NJ. Just saying,😊 if you have the chance you should take a peek.

    Loved that 'pink daffodil' orchid at the start :-) I spotted a vanda in there too. Your lighting set-up is fantastic by the way. All LED tubes?

      @@TerryMcGearyScotland Yes, google it and it's teh first one that comes up specialty orchid lights. They work well, but pricey. Barrina is good too but more economical. Happy growing :)

    Props to Missorchidgirl! She's full of good tips and knowledge, isn't she?! I like your plan and your channel. And I love these videos that help to make life with orchids more efficient because it really can be time consuming when you love these plants, and just wanna do super right by them. But it's also more than worth the investment to make life easier. Because... Its better for them in the long run... ^_^! P.S. I do not find leca to be wicking.. honestly. It is good at evening out to a point but not very wicking.. perlite is more wicking in my opinion and in all of the projects I've tried. But it worked great to use leca with a bit of long strands of sphagnum throughout. -L
