Nicole thanks for another informative orchid video. You have some of the best I've seen on youtube. It's really encouraging to see a young person taking up a hobby I've enjoyed for 40 years. The youngest person in our orchid club is north of 60. I hope hobby growers are not becoming an endangered species.
I LOVE watching fragrant orchid videos and you did not disappoint 😀 it gives me ideas of what to get next. What I also like about yours compared to some others is that not only did you actually explain the fragrance in more detail, you also mentioned the times of day the smell is most prominent, and strength of scent and even about how long the blooms usually last.
Thanks for describing these, I love fragrant orchids the most, I don’t have a lot of room so I decided any new orchids must be fragrant. I see many orchids are listed as fragrant but don’t really describe what type of fragrance.
Brassevola Nodosa right now is one of my favorite scents, the flowers aren’t the most showy but one little flower can fill a room with such beautiful fragrance. And it doesn’t take up a lot of room.
My Neofinetia falcata all have slightly different scents based on the variety. I usually smell jasmine & vanilla. My favorite scent so far is Neo. falcata Hisui, a bit of citrus scent in the jasmine/gardenia.
I really admire the ability to describe scents. My most scented orchid is Cattleya (or Rhyncovola) Jimminy Cricket which is evening scented and amazing. 😊 I have a Neofinetia but it hasn't flowered yet, or seemed to have grown at all in two years apart from roots.
I just added Phal. Chang Jhih Lady to my MUST HAVE list and it’s not just the fragrance. I love the color of the flowers and the rather compact growth. Juicy Fruit in my living room is just a bonus. ☺️ I would love to have a Sharry Baby but just don’t have the room that it takes without getting rid of a few of my tall orchids.
You have to let me know what you think when you get it Linda! I think you'll like it! It is getting a bit bigger, but it's manageable. Sharry baby does get big!
Den. anosmosum (sp) smells like raspberries. It's a deciduous species, which is nerve wracking, but beautiful large flowers. If you have space, both Stanhopea wardii and oculata are very fragrant unusual flowers Lc. Canhamiana "Azure Skies" has a spicy floral fragrance and blooms reliably right around mothers day. Den. kingianum is a fragrant small orchid and Oncidium ornithorhyncum (the parent who gives Sharry Baby her fragrance) is a treat with scads of baby pink flowers. I am partial to the species over the hybrids since we are losing so many, but I do make room for especially fragrant hybrids.
Those are good ones! I used to have the Den Anosmum but gave it away because of its size, but I agree the fragrance is wonderful. Nice recommendations!
Love this video and with the exception of the sharry baby I don't have any of these haha but I am thinking about getting a bellina! The most fragrant orchid for me is the Dowiana or any crosses that have Dowiana as a primary hybrid. The fragrance is absolutely amazing! Also the Cattleya Mrs. Malher is one of my top favorites and the Cattleya Fascelis as they have perfumey jasmine smells. On the other side of the spectrum if you like spicy fragrances the Cattleya guttata is absolutely amazing as it smells like cloves and the Catasetum After Dark "SVO" is absolutely devine with its gingerbread, clove and spicy scent!
You won't regret the Bellina! I have two Dowiana's that are still on the small side but I can't wait to bloom them, I'd imagine they will be divine! I enjoy the Fascelis. I forgot about the Catasetums, I hear good things about After Dark. I like the Millenium Magic it's different since it smells like black pepper and licorice but it's not my favorite haha. I guess I like lemons and oranges LOL.
I have the Onc. Tsiku Marguerite and the Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance', and Onc. Twinkle 'Fantasy' in bloom right now. I love the fragrance. I'm waiting for my summer bloomers to see which ones I like.
So glad for this video. 🩵💜🩵 Excited to hear about your BLC Waianae Leopard ‘Ching Hua’. Had never heard of it. In addition to fragrance it’s gorgeous. Will add to my wish list. Already have Sweet Memory and Walkeriana on it! I’ve gotten to the point where fragrance is almost my number 1 reason for choosing a new orchid!
Wow, I just discovered your channel! Binge watching right now. 🙂 Phal. Bellina is fantasic! To me, it smells like Tart Raspberries. lol My top three fragrant orchids are 1) C. Caribbean Orange Bowl. OMG, you need this orchid! The fragrance makes me crazy! Smells like a blend of floral and Oranges. I seriously go nuts when it's in bloom. 2) C. Purpurata I don't know if you've owned one or not, but I'll warn you...they are addictive! There's a reason they're in many growers top 5 list. The smell is so pretty, like a clean floral. Heaven! 3) Bl. Yellowbird Night time fragrance. VERY potent! The fragrance really travels throughout the space. I've always described it as a Tropical Spice fragrance. Thanks for the great content!
I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos :) I will look for these orchids!! I had the Yellobird but if you can believe it I had a dud! It wasn't fragrant can you believe it? I will try another one, there's so much variation on it. Will look for Orange Bowl :)
I have 7-8 fragrance orchids too,but they are unknown,I bought them from Publix and Lowes. We live in south west Florida,I should look online for nurseries
Fantastic description.. two cinnamon sticks rubbed together with rose petals .. I can actually imagine the spicy scent. For me it's Sweet memory. Love it so much, I bought a second. I do have a Bellina but with her first time small bloom , her scent was not very noticeable ❤
Thank you for watching :) The Sweet Memory is wonderful isn't it? Don't worry too much about the Bellina, i find that first time things bloom they can be underwhelming or just not have any blooms at all in the beginning but they end up improving over time as they get bigger and stronger
Very nice video Nicole. Right now I have Brassavola Little Stars in bloom . Wonderful fragrance at night. Another orchid with a wonderful fragrance is Lc. Kiyoka Kito (C. aclandiae x laelia alaorii). Not in bloom right now but blooms off and on year round. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas to you.🎄🎁❤️
I have smelled the Alaorii and the Aclandiae separately but together it must be a really good one. I need to look into this hybrid, sounds like its a very compact plant too. Thank you for sharing some of your faves
Oh! How can I forget to mention Maxillaria tenufolia???!!!!??? It's an easy grower that smells like coconut or suntan lotion. There is a yellow variety that is lovely and blooms just a little later
I have been on the fence about getting a Bellina but after watching your video I added it to my Hausermann’s wish list. I have an Oncidium Twinkle and agree with the other comments. They are all great choices.
You have to let me know how you like it once it blooms! I think you'll enjoy it. When it first bloomed for me, I "got" it, and understood why it was so well liked. Thank you for watching!
You should try hoyas lacunosa and heuschkeliana if you love fragrant flowers. The lacunosa has a really light pleasant floral scent and heuschkeliana flowers smell like dessert. It's like vanilla frosting to me, but I've heard it described as like cake or pudding.
I have a lacunosa that hasn't bloomed yet, I'm curious if its similar to Khroniana? If so it'll be nice and strong. I like fragrant hoyas as well :)

Excelente vídeo! Não tenho acesso a quase nenhuma orquídea mencionada por você mas, sendo brasileiro, possuo algumas cattleyas perfumadas: walkeriana, aclandiae, labiata, nobilior e tigrina.
I prefer the fragrant orchids; those without fragrance are kind of a tease, just like roses with no fragrance. I had Sharry Baby, but the leaf spot was just too distracting for me to ignore. I hear it's common, but I don't see any spots on yours.
It's so common for the sharry baby to have the spots, but the other hybrids like heaven scent sweet baby and raspberry chocolate have less of them. I agree with you on fragrance!
Bellina is on my list since I want to get a summer blooming one. I'm surprised you mentioned that they don't need that much light since someone from another video said they need at least 12 hours/day. I just watched a tour of Waldor's Orchids in NJ. Have you ever ordered from them?
Thanks for watching! I should have clarified, they have low light requirements, so they don't need as much light as say a cattleya but id say 12 hours per day is right!
I gave away one of my best smelling orchids (Vanda falcata x Vanda denisoniana) because it just didn't bloom well for me. I sent it to Todd and it blooms for him like crazy. It is an interesting one because it has a very strong Gardenia fragrance during the day and it turns to that soapy/citrusy falcata fragrance as it gets dark. I've been adding to my summer blooming Phal collection just to get some of the different fragrances. Phal zebrina, though, that one stinks but the flower is beautiful.
It's amazing Todd is able to bloom it. It's so odd when something works well for one person and not another when you both give good care. For example the Rainbow Stars, I was shocked I bloomed that after you told me the difficulty you had. I don't get it, your conditions are arguably better! I agree that the zebrina isn't that nice smelling, but so many of the summer bloomers have nice variety ♥️ I'm excited for Dowiana one day :))
Thank you for watching! Outside of the United States I couldn't say unfortunately. There's a grower I recommend though called Ninja Orchids who's located in Spain who talks about where she gets her orchids from, you should check her out :)
@@NicoleDeanna Yea I did get a smaller division. I'm waiting on her to catch up. I'll remember you when it gets out of hand and I divide her! 🤣 it maybe a little bit. It's just now growing over the 5 inch pot. So I'll be up grading her soon.

The Oncidium Twinkle series are compact and have that great vanilla fragrance as well.
