Lie is very important (they called it the "loft"). It depends on how close or far you play the puck from your body so that you have more of your blade touching the ice while you're handling the puck. This translates to a better shot and more control over the puck. Depending on your playstyle, you also want to consider if you tend to play with the puck in your feet (defensemen?) or if play the puck far out in front of you (forwards?). If you play in your feet, you want a higher lie. If you play with the puck far in front of you, you want a lower lie. Easy way to test the lie you need is to fully tape your blade like Toews stick and play a game. After the game or practice, look at the underside of the blade to see where the tape is worn out. If you're wearing out the toe area, your lie might be too low. If your wearing out the heel of your tape on the blade, your lie might be too high. If your wearing out the tape in the middle or evenly from heel to toe under your blade, you got the right lie. The higher the lie (5-7) would look more like an "L" while a lower lie (4-5) would have less angle, looking closer to a "l".
Weekes: "I'm gonna try and fire this puck bar-down far side with sticks I've never used before. Now you go stand behind the net far side right above the bar..." Me: *waits for that guy to take one in the face*
Super way to explain the differences between the two sticks. Thanks for the demonstration. Personally I use a 6-lie Left with a moderate curve. It is longer because I am 6' 2" tall.
A 5 lie is nice because it will naturally let you have the puck out in front of you more, as a defenseman you want to be able to pivot and transition with the puck out more You can pass quickly/harder. But if you’re used to a 6 lie then it’s better to use what you’re used too!
Exactly why I use black tape. I said the exact same thing to one of my coaches many years ago! I am surprised Kevin weeks Mentioned that. He's the only person I know who mentioned it. Even though I did mention it myself many years ago. Very good point
Adamsons 2 you have a valid point! But a couch in youth league or camps would be valuable! But you know what he’s doing now is just as important. Bringing insight and knowledge for the viewers to understand
That goal where he skates thru Buffalo and scores one handed is right out of a video game. Defenders have a very hard time getting the puck away from him along the boards.
Near the end of the video, Either that guy in the corner was confident in his co analyst keeping the puck inside the net or he’s just flat out stupid & asking to eat a pick into his face 😂
Hes totally wrong about sids stick curve i used a straighter stick like Gilmore and it was easier to stick handle with but hard to take a slap shot with but you can flick a puck up with a straight curve blade. Weeks stick to knowing stuff about goalies gear ok.
Unless the puck is fully black which most aren't there's usually writing or a logo on it the goalie can still track it the exact same, he's just never played goalie
They could save for most of the words said by just setting camera closely to the Sid's blade. People who know what to look for would see all they needed. But they didn't. Blah-blah-blah-blah instead.
Because that's the only way folks who don't play hockey can understand what they're talking about. That comment wasn't for hockey players, it's to explain to folks who don't play hockey.
crosby wouldve been WAY better if it werent for his superstitions. as he got older equipment evolved to make you a better player, as it always has in hockey. he refused to get rid of his heavy gloves, huge unnecessary shoulder pads, no flex, no curve blade. If he didnt have the superstitions he couldve put up mcdavid numbers.
I have to disagree here. I see your point but certain things just work better for other guys. The flat curve and the lie 4 really work in his favor for his puck protection and passing ability. Different playing styles result in different gear choices. I have the same model gloves he uses and I see why he loves them. Newer gear isn’t always better. For example I haven’t enjoyed a stick since like 2016. The apx2 still sits as king in my opinion. Just as Sid still using the ccm reckoner.
If you lose sight of the puck with Crosby, you can often pick it up again in the net.
I just use the right skill stick and then triangle button for the celly.

lol, I was waiting for the same thing
They were foam pucks.
@@samslocombe5402 You ruined it for me, here I was all impressed that Kevin was able to roof it
and I'm not even a lefty?
@@kevinrenn9123 lol don't worry. I think he's messing with you. They're definitely rubber. From how they bounce and roll and land.
Can we appreciate Weekes not sniping one in the cohosts face hahaha
pretty sure those pucks are made of foam. he hit the bar a couple times and it was silennnnt

Kevin, you speaker very well for a guy’s, like me, who is firts language is french. Thanks a lot for the explication!
As someone who’s about to play hockey for the first time, this was incredibly insightful and useful information.
I always loved Weekes! Didn't realize he was also so interesting when he speaks

Great demo Weekesy
Great explanation. I really enjoyed this one.
The shortness and lie of Crosby's stick has always fascinated me. It's why he can corral the puck so strongly. Keith used to have a short stick too.
Most people use a stick that is way too long for them, technically.
It's so tilting that they have that awesome mini rink in studio and they never shoot the puck. This time luckily we saw some shooting :)
Adam Oate's stick was probably the most fascinating in NHL history.
Good insight from Kevin Weeks.
Kevin Weekes is a smart man. He should be in management. GM material
Adamsons 2 you have a valid point! But a couch in youth league or camps would be valuable! But you know what he’s doing now is just as important. Bringing insight and knowledge for the viewers to understand
So nobody talking about Weeke's magical abilitiy with the puck starting at 1:51

This is an awesome video
Please do Draisatl the man plays with a canoe paddle
Kevin Weekes is an EXPERT on skin care from all those “red light sunburns” 😂
Sorry I have to be "that guy" but I' happy that Kevin clearly said "markedly" after Tony's mispronunciation "markubly" @0:21 in.
Imagine a whole video which doesn't mention the non-call of Gretsky high sticking Doug Gilmore which cost the Leafs the Cup.
Gretzky.
Crosby likes the sand paper finish
Lol
The curve that Toews is working with helps get the elevation, is what she said.
what about kane and crosby
"okay now you go stand in the corner over there, the worst possible spot to be given what I'm about to demonstrate"
Sunburn?
Datsyuk stick is very nice I like his curve
looool the first guy says "markably different" (not a word) and then Weekes immediately corrects him as says "markedly different" (actually a word)
I want this set for my basement.
Does he have to wear the gloves?
It's proper etiquette, yes.
0:35 weekes starts to gently stroke crosby's shaft
Near the end of the video, Either that guy in the corner was confident in his co analyst keeping the puck inside the net or he’s just flat out stupid & asking to eat a pick into his face 😂
I totally agree tho thx!
HOLY SHIT YOU CAN GO UP AND DOWN THE STICK NO WAY

KEVIN, Teach the reporter how to hold a stick and get away from in front of your demo shots.
How did anyone make a video of this!!
How does nhl network only have 3k subs. That’s pathetic
Kevin likes hands slide up and down his shaft.
Yeah I’ve been using white tape for a while. Prob gonna go back to black. Good point.

THATS HOCKEY!
*What a stupid placement to have his cohost stand in the corner like that...*
LMAO.... This has been going on for a long time. Black tape white tape shit. It's not new.
how cares ?
Im goona giit that jersey from jerseyworld.ca
foam pucks.
Two Canadian born players and two guys thinking they know what their talking about. How do you refer to a hockey stick as a golf iron? Geez.

Hey newsflash, the former NHL player does actually know more about hockey than you
Exactly 💯 golf vs hockey lol
Blah blah, get pucks to the net, blah blah, stick curve, blah blah,,he’s a lefty, blah. good lord...
These guys know nada
