    Seriously, I think the Arrival DLC can be done before the suicide mission. And having that scene where thousands of Reapers just looming over the Milky Way as the last scene in ME2 felt more effective.
    About Joker, yeah, I blame it on the writers😂. For me, it's easy to come into conclusion that Joker didn't really join Cerberus because he wants to, but because of Shepard. And I just sums it up as Joker not really knowing about Cerberus involvement in the massacre of the 50 Alliance troops. Plus, none of the characters seem to brought that topic up. For me, I think it's the info that fuels Shepard hatred towards Cerberus(especially if you're sole survivor background) but something that Shepard keep it to herself.

      Personally I liked Arrival as an ending for ME2. Yes the Reapers slowly descending on the Milky Way was a good final shoot for the main game, but I think Arrival acts as a nice bridge between the games. In my mind, Arrival wasn't part of ME2 it was its own thing.
      Something I'd just like to point out about Joker, I didn't learn most of his personality traits from the game. I learnt them from you in the comments. At the very beginning of the game, you were telling me 'oh Joker makes harsh jokes when he's nervous or anxious.' But the game doesn't establish that until after Joker's Jump at the very end of the game which recontextualises his comments at the start. As someone playing this completely blind, I have absolutely no attachment to Joker because he was barely in the first game. And while you may have told me his personality, I prefer to wait for the game to show me and it took over 100 episodes to do so.

    I love the soundtrack for this DLC.

      It was wonderfully atmospheric in places. Really dreamlike and alien.

    Thanks for the LP Kallista! Totally valid points on the game and like I said before, the love for this game is mostly because of the beginning and end and less because of the middle. But the soundtrack still frickin rocks and glad you enjoyed that at least!
    Good luck with Mass Effect 3! I think ME3 is a bit over-hated but we’ll see how you feel about it. Also, not to hype it up too much, but one of the DLCs is one of my favorite DLCs in any game ever and I really can’t wait to see you play it!

      While I found the game disappointing, I am glad that I played it. I did have fun for that first playthrough. I'm really looking forward to ME3, through all the criticisms I've seen about ME3 the main takeaway I get is that it's very different from ME2. I'm hopeful/interested to see if that's true.

    I like the ending story telling you did there and that Naomi and Joker is back on good terms again... Kinda of, lol.
    I pretty sure that the writers didn't think to much when they made the game. They written Shepard as a driven person who would do anything to stop the reapers which was why there was no decision on whatever or not to activate the project when Shepard automatically did it. That is the only conclusion I got to the reason why Shepard was willingly to work with a well-known terrorist group to stop the Collectors. But you're right through because while writing this game, they didn't thought about the sole survivor version of Shepard and there should have been a opinion for that version of Shepard to secretly screw over Cerberus at any given chance besides that n7 mission where you have to rescue a Cerberus agent and secure his intel as payback for akuzes.

      Thank you! Yeah as Joker never explained himself I knew I was going to have to come up with something to explain why Naomi would still employ him in ME3. Saying that 'I'm pretty sure that the writers didn't think too much when they made the game' is such a condemning statement. And to be honest, I can't say I disagree with you. A major part of Mass Effect is the story, the writers can't afford to not think about that.

    Thank you for the Let's Play, Kallista! I mostly agree with your take on ME2, and I quite enjoy your rewrite of it!
    One point I dislike about ME2's ending is how the Reapers just 'arrive'. The fact that they can transition from dark space to the Milky Way in a mere 2 or 3 years, essentially 'on foot,' really cheapens the plot established in ME1 for me. Sovereign's plan for invasion took decades, if not centuries, to unfold; we're uncertain about the exact duration of his 'awakening'. Why invest so much time and effort when he could have simply beckoned his allies back? Three years is inconsequential for an immortal entity.
    Come to think of it, I wish the game plots weren't so tied to the Reapers. It would have been fascinating if the Reapers were truly 'stuck' in dark space, but with the looming threat that one day they would find a way back. This could have taken decades, centuries, or even millennia. The galaxy would have had this Damocles sword hanging over it. In the meantime, the games could have focused on preparing for their eventual return and addressing the galaxy's problems. The Genophage, the Quarian-Geth conflicts, and wars with the Terminus Systems are all such interesting issues that could have each been the focus of one game! But I'm getting off track now, so I'll just stop here.😅Thanks again for the LP and enjoy your week of rest from TH-cam!

      I'm glad you enjoyed my rewrite Ulysse! I can see what the writers were going for, and I don't think that idea is bad at all. But the execution of it was off in my opinion. I like your idea of the games not revolving around the Reapers! That's such an interesting idea! Dealing instead with all the problems we've seen whilst having the Reapers be a forboding presence on the horizon. I like that! I'm glad you enjoyed the LP, and I most certainly enjoyed my week off thank you!

    I love how Arrival ends. The Harbinger conversation, as brief as it is, it's very cool. The Mass Relay explosion also looks amazing.
    While there are some questions to be had in regards of the writing and such, I still think that Arrival is a good epilogue for ME2 and prequel for 3.

    • @KallistaPlays
      @KallistaPlays  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I thought that Arrival served as a pretty decent epilogue too. It wasn't as good as Lair of the Shadow Broker or Overlord, but it was still very enjoyable and sets up some conflict for ME3.

    Mass effect 2 and Dragon age origins are my favorite bioware games. I like ME3 as well but not nearly as much. It is a shame that you don't like Geralt. Witcher games are my all time favorites so I would love those let's plays. But maybe you could play Divinity originaL sin or Jade Empire in the future? Those games are great as well.

    • @KallistaPlays
      @KallistaPlays  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah Geralt is... deeply off-putting to me. If they ever make a Witcher game where you can create your own Witcher I'd jump on that in a heartbeat! The world looks so interesting! But as long as Geralt is the player character, I'm just not interested. I've had Divinity Original Sin 2 recommended to me multiple times and it's definitely on my 'look into' list. I don't really know anything about Jade Empire. I believe it's an early Bioware game about martial arts? I can look into that one too!

    Excellent video Kallista.
    Just wanted to add a few comments to your video.
    Cerberus needed more "true believers" for Shepherd to interact with. The crew that makes up his ship are either severely traumatized due to the collector attack, comically naive, or view Cerberus in a strictly transactional light.
    For as dark and edgy as Mass Effect 2 markets itself to be, the player is too often not allowed to analyze or even explore Cerberus or the Alliance in any material way, and those chances that do exist are handwaved away and not tackled seriously(for example, Akuze and Hackett casually referring to the Alliance's internal propaganda system used to keep the populace in check in Mass Effect 1).
    For a game that advertised itself as a darker and edgier version of Mass Effect 1, too often it's style over substance. And, as you said, Sheppard's spinelessness is on full display

    • @KallistaPlays
      @KallistaPlays  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video Detrik! I completely agree about there needing to be more true believers. The closest we get to that is Miranda, but it's pretty clear that Cerberus groomed her. There needed to be at least one person who genuinely believed in Cerberus' goals without any indication of manipulation. And I also agree about the lack of analysis. If a player doesn't want to analyse what's going on, if they just want to play the game without thinking too much then that's fair. But the option should at least be available for the people who want to delve into the lore and really examine what is going on.

    I've been wondering if Kenson is fighting from the inside, trying to get Shepard to stop her. Otherwise she's just telling us her plans like a Bond villain.

      Saren did the same and he was signficantly more augmented than Kenson. It's very possible.
      Or it's bad writing like you said, Idk.

      The codex entries did say that Indoctrination causes the brain to degrade. Maybe the part of the brain responsible for impulse control (the part that would say 'hey let's maybe not monologue our secret plans') has been severely damaged?

    A little late but I made it before you dropped the first episode of ME3. To keep my comment brief, alot of mass effect 2 is shoe horned to work and its obvious. Mass effect 2 has I think the absolute best aspects yet at the same time the absolute worse apsects of the trilogy. I really do enjoy seeing some of your choices and explanation for things, it adds very interesting perspectives on things I kinda just think of as one way and shows another for it. Gotta say your rework for the game honestly sounds pretty solid, or at least better than what we got. Looking forward to mass effect 3, the most rollar coaster of them all.

      It is a shame as ME2 has such a strong opening and a wonderful ending. I just wish that the main plotline was of equal quality. Or even just half as good. I'm glad you enjoyed my rewrite! Thank you for watching this LP Eefer and I hope you enjoy the ME3 LP!

    I can see your point about the game plot . There are many people who would agree with you . I wish Shepherd had an option to leave Cerberus are at least have the option to be more of a jerk to him . Also to be able to tell everyone no I don’t trust this man it seems right now I have no choice. Other than that I loved to game .

    • @KallistaPlays
      @KallistaPlays  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I can understand that the writers wanted Shepard to join up with Cerberus, if that was the only way that they could tell the story they wanted to tell then I think that's fair. But they needed to make Cerberus more likable. They needed to provide some decent reasoning for why Shepard would just go along with the terrorist organisation that they had major conflicts with. But instead they just seemed to gloss over that.

    I think you’re more hard on this game than I am but I ultimately agree on most of your points mainly because we talked about a lot of them in previous comment sections lol. I still firmly believe that every game in the trilogy has something of value to them with this one being the companion quests. But now thinking on it I realized that I’ve never replayed this game. I get more enjoyment watching let’s plays of this game rather than going back and I wonder if I would be as bored as you were if I tried to go back. Ultimately I was happy to watch Naomi’s journey and your commentary and insights are always great to listen. Now onwards to ME3!!!
    Btw on a completely unrelated note. Are you going to look into Greedfall2? I say this because I believe you played the first game before although I could be wrong.

    • @KallistaPlays
      @KallistaPlays  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The companion quests were definitely some of the bright spots of this game, but the writing for the main quest was just... lacking in my opinion. And I absolutely will be looking into Greedfall 2! The first game is one of my favourites, I'm going to be keeping an eye out for any and all news regarding the sequel!

    It's useless to complain that ME2 is a bad RPG because it's not an RPG anymore. It's a shooter game. Yes, the parts of the story can still be completed in any order. Yes, the major parts may end with a moral choice that carries on to the sequel. But it's not an RPG, the action parts rely solely on player's, not character's skill.
    But the story part... just step back and think about that for a second. Shepard just led a bunch of pilgrims into depths of hell, and these folks had nothing in common except each of them holding a sad story of loss and regret of some kind, and they all were seeking for an atonement. How much more classic and epic it must to be? And the hell is not my metaphor, Jacob reminds that every time when asked about the readiness of the crew. Miranda does when praising Shepard's leadership. Garrus drops it in the banter right after experiencing his NDE.
    Also, Naomi died, "dead as dead can be", and after that, against her will, she was forced into a service to an evil entity until the completion of certain task. That trope alone is probably older than anything we'd recognize as civilized society.
    And speaking about Garrus's NDE, most of your crew also is dead already and good to go. Either terminally ill like Thane, or they never knew a full human life like Jack, or were morally changed like "whoever she was before taking the oath, that person is dead now" Samara.
    This was a fascinating story of an afterlife, I wish I could play it as a different game, not an intermission between ME1 and ME3.

    • @KallistaPlays
      @KallistaPlays  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Vargr, you keep saying that ME2 isn't an RPG. You've said that multiple times. But the game is literally marketed as an RPG. If you type ME2 into google, the first thing it says is that the game is an action roleplaying video game. If you look on the EA App, the genre for ME2 is listed as roleplaying. If you look on Steam, it's tagged as an RPG. All of the marketing I can find for ME2 states that it is an RPG. If ME2 was marketed as just a shooter, then yes I would agree that complaining that it's a bad RPG would be useless. But that isn't the case. It's not wrong to think that something that is consistently marketed as an RPG is going to be an RPG.
