Down HWY 1 of Baja California to San Lucas Cove

  • This week on Drifting South we had to change our plans and keep travelling down highway 1 to Guerrero Negro to top up our wallets. There are plenty of places that accept debit and credit however when you get into the little villages or boon docking on the beach, you need cash to pay for things. We were not prepared to go to Bahia Los Angeles so we are heading to a town with banks and ATMs so that we can withdraw cash.
This little town isn't somewhere we wanted to stay more than a night or two so we packed up and checked the Compendium site to find the next stop. San Lucas Cove is the spot! We are so happy to be here! The people are lovely, the RV spot is right on the ocean and we are so happy that we found it. We've been here 2 weeks already and we are already planning to come back!
Our next stop will be in Mulege, a small village barely big enough for our truck to drive through. Luckily there are RV parks right off the highway that are actually possible to get into and we are looking forward to having full hook ups for a while.
Thanks so much for watching and take care until next time!

Thank you, Norm!! We had so much fun catching, cleaning and eating those fish. We’ve also got a freezer full! It’s been a great adventure so far. Thanks for coming along with us through these videos!

Good knife skills cleaning the fish. Smart to use that glove for safety. Really nice boat by the way. The more I see of it the more I appreciate it.
A lot of work and research to get something nice to go up on the truck! Smart to put fish in bag to keep boat clean.

Thank you, Charlie! I’ve never cleaned a skipjack tuna before, I’m sure I’ll get more practice. next year if we come back down I think I’ll make plans to jar some for sandwiches. We have so much in the freezer now. Sierra, Skipjack, Sea Bass and Yellowtail. It’s such a great feeling catching, cleaning and cooking our own meat.
The Swellfish is an awesome boat! The boat loader was fabricated in Kelowna and we love how easy it is to load and unload. Plus it gives us the ability to have both a boat and our RV with us at the same time which has made for some really fun adventures.
The dry sac for the fish is a must. We forgot it one day and caught 5 fish so there was a lot of blood in the boat. Unfortunately now days later it really smells. So we are going to be cleaning that up tomorrow.
We are leaving San Lucas Cove on Wednesday and heading to Mulege (Moo-la-hey) to park at a place with full hook ups. I’m excited to be able to run water freely again. It will be a great birthday present.
Thank you again for your continued support. Take good care!

Thank you so much! What is your name by the way? I’d like to be able to thank you properly for joining us on our adventures! Not too long ago that highway was a dirt road so I suppose we should be happy that it’s paved at least. It sure is a tight fit for large vehicles!
I’m looking forward to the next video. We’ve sure enjoyed staying here in San Lucas Cove.
      Take care!

Thank you Robin!! It was so much fun fighting these fish! They’ve all been really tasty but so far I think the skip Jack tuna is our least favourite. We’ve had Yellow tail Sashimi, Sea bass fish nuggets and Sierra Fish and Chips and we love it all. Even Minnie has more seafood in her diet and our freezer is full! Thank you for your comment! I’m looking forward to showing you this awesome RV park in the next episode.

eeeeee thank you for thinking of me when you stumble across any pile of bones. I think that scene is much too sad for me though. Such a SHAME.

So so sad! I counted over 20 turtle skeletons on that little part of the spit 😭 they eat them and leave the shell…/ so I guess it’s better then harvesting just the shell for money. But definitely didn’t want to see any dead turtles. I’m always thinking of you sweet Meagan 🥰😘
