  • Welcome to Good Hope Cannery in Rivers Inlet, BC, Canada!
This week on Lodge Life we are heading over to Wadhams Point to catch some Coho. Wadhams is another old cannery site that we visit almost everyday to walk the dogs. The staff take turns going so that we get a break from the day to day cannery life. That's also one of the reasons we went out fishing.
We are a spoiled group of staff up here at Good Hope. Kevin took me out fishing to bring some meat home. I sent a couple coho to St.Jeans Cannery to have canned and shipped to my family in Barrhead, Alberta. I had the guys fillet another salmon into 4 pieces to bring home for the freezer. Also I caught my first Halibut at "The Kidney" which is half way between to mouth of the inlet and Calvert Island.
Our 5 hour fishing tournament was amazing, all thanks to one playful Humpback whale. It swam and danced around us for almost an hour. Smacking its tail on the water and breaching and twirling around in the kelp beds.
The radio was dead and we were all sure that we all got skunked... except Teddy who released a 2 pound hatchery spring... which barely counts. When we arrived back to the cannery we were surprised to see both Randy and Nina had caught a salmon each, guided by Dwayne Walkus! The champions of the 2023 GHC derby.
The year is quickly wrapping up so stay tuned to see what it takes to end a season at a wilderness lodge on the west coast of Canada. I'll also be working on a video of highlights of the season, including a lot of new footage!
    Thanks so much for watching!
    Take care until next time!

Epic fishing video, those are some seriously nice Coho! As a BC transplant living in Alberta not too far from your town now, I’m reliving the time I spent on the coast thru your videos.
While fishing on the lake I live on is excellent, I find myself pining for fishing back in “the chuck” often.
I also worked in Rivers inlet in ‘79/80 in a camp called Seair on the south side of the river right at the head of the inlet, helping build the airstrip & later logging, so your videos not only remind me of the fishing but also my time spent up there & it’s nice to see familiar sights.
I worked with a couple of guys from the village too.

Great job fighting the Coho! My favorite to catch and BBQ. My PB is also 15lbs several years ago fishing at Tasu Sound in Haida Gwaii.

It’s definitely fun to fight them for a bit. Was my biggest coho yet. I’d love to visit the Haida Gwaii area some day.

    Well Done Viedo!
    Nice to see big Coho.
A 20lb Coho is more rare than a 50 lb Chinook.

Firstly let me say, excellent job on the production of the video series. I have a few questions if you don't mind. How does this place make any money? It seems there are never any or only a few clients in camp at any time, a chopper pilot on standby, the best in boats, food and lodging...etc etc.
Secondly, I looked the the lodge web site and cannot find rates, is it the only adage, that if you have to ask, you can't afford it? I'm in 108 Mile and would love to do a fishing trip one day but it looks pricey however I could ferry to Bella if it saved some loot.
Lastly, have you seen a increase/decrease in your clients at Sheridan this summer. It seemed like there were not nearly as many tourists this year. All the very best and I for one, and likely many more, look forward to seeing more videos of your adventures.
    Dave

Thank you for your questions and comments, Dave! I appreciate you watching my videos!! Good Hope Cannery is a private lodge with guests who are friends and family invited by the owner. You cannot book here. There is however a lodge nearby called Duncanby with an amazing lodge and staff and owners.
Piney Point Resort on Sheridan lake was very busy this year. I’m not sure if there were less tourists all together but I know it’s been the busiest so far this year at the one resort.
I’m days away from leaving here and hoping to have another video out soon. Thank you so much for your support!!

Definitely I do not always do well. I went fishing 4 times this year and the trip with Kevin was the best for catching.
