Can You Beat Nioh with Only Magic?

  • Hello! This game is once again Nioh! Really though, the last run through this soulslike was was a lot of fun, so I wanted to give it another go. I decided on a slightly more complicated run this time, using onmyo magic to the best of my abilities.
Once again, the start of the challenge was a really rough experience, but the status effects available made life a lot easier. Between confused and the sloth talisman, magic is indeed pretty good. It just takes a really long time to be able to get to that point...
I'm not sure when/if I'll be taking on the DLC at any point. Might be worth a shot, but I reckon it'd take a lot of prep for either run. Or who knows? Maybe fist only is in the future. Hard to say.
Regardless, I hope you enjoy a magical journey. We don't have a magical pony nor are we flying through the sky, but such is life.

Using what the Dojo gives you to complete it is entirely fine. They hold you back in specific ways to try to teach you what your kit is supposed to do. That includes weapon use. People with a problem with that have never actually tried this. (or hate themselves)

I gotta say I really like that you include a lot of the facts that people told you in the comments on your last Nioh video. It's really good to see when a content creator acknowledges what their audience tells them, even if it's just history facts and how that match with the game.
Plus another Nioh challenge run is always great to see. I hope to see you do more, even though I know that most challenge runs have an awful start to them with how Nioh is paced at the beginning. Seeing you try these runs in the dlc would be great, but at the same time, you can also do them in the sequel. Whatever comes next, Nioh or not, I'm sure it will be fun to watch.
Also yes, sloth talismans are game-breakingly powerful. I didn't even have a magic build and I still used them with how great they are.

I really appreciate that people take the time to teach me about things I didn't know. I tend to love learning/random trivia. It feels like it'd be a disservice to not at least bring it up.
I've gone back and forth about how I want to handle the DLC. I think I have a plan that'd make me happy to put together. I'm definitely a lot more excited to try tackling the sequel in the near future. I haven't gotten a good chance to try it yet, and I've heard really good things.
Thank you though! I'm really glad that the runs are enjoyable to watch! Even with the absolutely broken Sloth Talisman. It became a main stay in my kit so quickly...

It's crazy to me just how much time and effort must have been spent on just them. It kind of sucks in a sense that the spirit that best supports using said spirit doesn't really do much for offense. I'd have to imagine that's not the case if you're using Living Weapons though. Can't say that I'm sure how they perform.

To be entirely fair to the game, some of the magic is a bit more interesting. I didn't really find good use cases for those spells though. There's a big cone blast of water, but everything sort of just dodged it. There's a shotgun sort of thing with wind, but most of the projectiles miss on all but the largest of targets. That sort of thing. I didn't... used to be so into magic in games. The more I use though, the more I seem to enjoy it.

To answer your question starting at 22:00 the yokai you face is Japanese Myth is called the Gashadokuro (Translation literally being rattling skeleton). That monster in myth is said to only form through the resentful souls of those who died in a battlefield.
Now the way it’s represented here in Nioh well it kinda makes sense the dude uses his own army as a sacrifice, since evil yokai in Japan are usually born out of hatred and regret. Now I think this only happens when like the bodies are unintended and not respected….and Kelly doing his unexplained alchemy I guess it just fastened the process with forcing life back into these men who probably wanted rest. Due to Kelly’s corrupting influence they all came back wrong, hateful, confused, and scared.
I suppose with the collective calling of hatred the Gashadokuro was born since for the most part the ritual was faithful in how these bastard things are born.
Edit:I hope I explained this well enough in truth I’m not exactly well versed in Japanese Myth. Just some person who likes the aesthetic and the basic history.

and to note, this is long after sloth and other spells were nerfed. originally sloth slowed them more and for much longer, practically making them immobile. i think confuse got nerfed to have a shorter duration as well. and i think a lot of spells including sloth had reduced spell amounts.
and on the spirits, there is so much variety with them and they have so many effects. like Nobunaga’s peacock, when you summon the thing changes it’s elemental attack based on the direction you’re holding when summoning it (forward for fire, neutral for wind etc) and has different attacks based on the element. and due to it’s stats increasing elemental damage and status duration, the thing is an elemental builds best friend. too bad you get it super late in the game, but for higher difficulties if you enjoy confuse and using elemental debuffs it’s real solid.

I've come a long way since then, and I can pretty comfortably play most games, even with the creepy little things put in where they don't belong. That being said, I want other people to be comfortable too. And... The ones in Nioh bothered me more than I thought was still possible.
Really it's a good game, as is the sequel, but... don't go near either. For your own good. I won't go into specifics, but I had to set my controller down for a little bit during my first playthrough. I felt it was only fair to give some warning.

I get why for some people Shima is hard, for me he was a bit tricky but when i first started Onryoki kicked my ass so hard multiple times that i lost count. Another boss that was extremly hard for me and still is, is tachibana in the submission where you can fight him a second time. The only way how I defeat him is by running around that big rock on the left side and hitting him a few times after he attacked. Then the first time i fought Oda Nobunaga, well fighting him is too generous, I survived him is more accurate.

Big splash damage spells are pretty good on big targets, I've found when i went through the game recently, trying to do it mostly magic based myself. I was also cavorting about with not just magic as well though, and mostly had on early game gear cos it had great amrita gain. Would recommend you to do the DLCs that of the insight I've gained. Some bosses i had to truly embrace the block lockdiwn, some i used melee, and i enjoyed talisman of amrita gain for Living Weapon. You without such options should be quite interesting. Especially if you tackle a particular optional fight of DLC3 after the final boss, that necessitated LW odachi for me, be cool to see your tactics.

I really feel like the game needs an additional difficulty mode, designed with the damage end game builds can put out in mind. If you're into min maxing a build, then Nioh is really fun to go through that process in, problem is when you're done it totally breaks the game.
Even without magic, 160+10 and full scaling just melts everything, magic just tips it over the edge and turns it into full dynasty warriors mode, I've banned the big offenders, carnage, weakness and sloth, enjoy it a lot more that way.

I think it gets into a weird sort of arms race. Most players won't engage with content just because, so the added difficulties are accompanied by stronger gear. Which in turn...

Ok so fun fact, people can hurt yokai. We know this because hanzo can attack and hurt them and he CANT see spirits. Meaning he can attack these things and harm them, but just... doesn't. Infact the only real thing stopping regular people is probably the yokai realm. Because it just kinda kills regular people (its them summoning a small portion of the underworld, which kills regular people) and thats my best guess on why they are asking us to slay yokai. Because 1. we're really good at it, and 2. because they are really BAD at it. Seriously, if you watch regular guys fighting yokai they just lose 79% of the fights. Except against like dwellers and shit, but yeah its a bit of a story gap but it'd fit the character because he was being controlled by fucking CRYSTALS. Meaning those who the crystals controlled are unable to beat most yokai.

Okay, HOW do you increase your capacities? I only have the base amounts of each, and I even took the Ninja Tool and Incantation Masteries up to max and I thought they increased what you prepared

    • @SpuddyCube
      @SpuddyCube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

So the naming is a bit confusing. Capacity refers to your "capacity" to prepare jutsu. This is true for both magic and ninjutsu. Each instance of a prepared jutsu takes up some of said capacity. It does _not_ affect the number of uses you have in play. Using kunai as an example, it costs one ninja point to unlock the first level. To prepare it, it'll take up four capacity. The next level costs two points to unlock, and takes three capacity. You can prepare both instances at the same time for a total of seven capacity. Each instance will give you seven uses for a total of fourteen. You can prepare all three levels of any given skill if you have the "capacity", but you can only prepare those three levels. So with kunai, you can only ever carry twenty one in total. To make matters even more confusing, there's a skill that increases the number of firebombs you can carry, but doesn't effect the number that you can prepare. I'm fairly sure it only changes the number of consumable ones you can have on you at once.
So in short, you can only increase your number of uses by preparing multiple levels of the same skill at once. You can prepare any combinations of levels, but the higher ones take up less capacity, meaning you can get a larger variety of prepared jutsu. I really hope that helps. Or at least doesn't make it more confusing. It's a weird system that could have been localized better.
