If you think your navigating is bad, i got lost in the tutorial castle at the start of the game for an entire hour and ended up having to look it up on YT. All i had to do was take an extremely obvious turn near the stairs that leads to the outside.
I had a pretty similar experience... The multiple staircases going to multiple floors threw me off for a fair bit. I have a long history of not knowing where I'm going both in game and out. One of the worse times to come to mind is the time that I got lost in a rectangular building and spent probably around five to ten minutes wandering before figuring out that it was indeed a giant rectangle and how to reorient myself with the entrance.

While I could be mistaken a lot of the difficulty most bosses in Nioh 1 especially had was in melee, leaving a lot of range options feeling cheesy if hyper invested, dlc for 1 addressed some of it but not completely. Nothing wrong with the challenge run, don't know final stats or what passives your gear had since you choose not to show it but I think most ideas work at the end of the with hyper investment at least after unlocking certain features like the blacksmith
What Hanzo is doing when he looks at the cat, he is telling the time. Theres a Myth o legend or whatever you want to call it that said that ninjas were able to know the time of the day by looking at a cats pupils. XD
It's an interesting methodology that I only began to understand after the fact. I do now wonder though how effective it would be to tell the difference in a night before dawn breaks. I would imagine any differences would be extremely subtle.
Tbh, when he was fighting against Hino-enma and there is consumable in Ninjutsu take cures paralysis and even gives you big resistance to it made me scream.
I just realized that for me the reason I never got lost was because of enemy sense, I'd always end up heading to the next batch of enemies and work out my pathing through that, when I did get lost it was because I has killed everything

Derrick is also an historical figure, His full name is Thomas Derrick, he was an executioner in the Tower of London, AND the inventor of the Derrick Crane. Which a pretty important invention, truth to be told.
I did a little bit of reading on some of the game's history since, and he was pretty prolific in his work. Apparently even being tasked with executing the person that pardoned him/gave him his job as an executioner.

Nioh 2 deserves som flak for using British accents for all these Japanese characters, but it lets me understand the narrative dialogue.

That giant skeleton is one of the scariest of the yokai. It's a monster of pure destruction, formed from the skulls of soldiers who died on the battlefield, or from a scene of mass starvation, or anywhere else where great numbers of people died without being buried. It's name translates to starving skeleton (or rattling skull), and all it does is stalk the world after a battlefield gives birth to it, chasing any victim it sees, grabbing them, and biting and chewing them to death. It's like an early series Titan from AoT, just sprinting about and grabbing victims to eat, only instead of being stored inside the body, everything pours out of the ribcage. They can also be invisible, and if a large enough battle occurs, they are also INVINCIBLE and can only be driven away by a high Shinto priest. Meaning the thirty foot or more giant skeleton can STALK YOU INVISIBLY and only jump you when it's posse has gathered. And it's favored method of killing you, when it isn't just gobbling you down, is to bite your head off and squeeze the blood from your body like a capri sun into its gaping empty jaws, as it tries to slake its gnawing hunger and thirst, but it never can. They are fast and tough as fuck and I don't think Nioh did them justice.
I feel like a lot will inevitably get lost when trying to translate giant bosses in games not built around them. At least while having it still be somewhat enjoyable. Gyuki in the second game for instance, I just didn't personally enjoy. It can be really hard to balance enemy speed, aggression, and areas that they threaten. Another one being Zorah Magdaros from Monster Hunter: World which was widely regarded as pretty underwhelming overall.
The second or third boss (Hino Enma) has an armor set and a charm item in the area leading up to her, all with paralysis resist. You will still get paralysed but only for a very brief moment. Jumping down on a ledge in that area from above where you enter, you can get a very good spear. One of the best, if not the best, guaranteed weapon loot up to that point. Most of her attacks do not need to be dodged and can be avoided by simply running laterally. Any enemy is vulnerable to attacks while in the air and while on the ground she is vulnerable to Ki damage. Kicks usually do extra Ki damage and are very effective against her. Bird guardian talismans are also super effective. If you are feeling really brave, she can also be parried.
With the Centipede boss fight, one of the only reasons I was able to beat it is because I used a special Spear attack that allows you to swing it around and hit everything within 10 ft. of you. That attack in the very center of the centipede's body, multiple times allows you to wipe out about 3 of its sections right there before the other sections start running away.
The answer in short is you can only beat nioh with ninjitsu in its original story missions but not the story missions from its two DLCs because the bosses in DLCs are world apart from the main story. They are faster, more resistant to debuff (in the sense that debuff last shorter for certain bosses). Some DLC boss fights are more trauma-inducing because they require you to fight boss with mobs at the same time or fight 3 bosses consecutively with little time to replenish used item. They kinda render ninjitsu less effective on DLC bosses.
i remember playing this and it took me so long to get through it cos if Hino-Enma, but once i got past her and unlocked the sloth talisman It went so much quicker and easier, im glad to know that Ninjutsu is just as useful
There's a lot of diversity in what you can use. Multiple different ways just to throw out even just caltrops. Different flavors of mines, buffs, projectiles... Honestly, one of the most surprising things about the game is the sheer variety.
lmao I had a pretty insane Ninja Built at the end of this game, i was hitting like 14,000 dmg with my Kunai and my armor skills all benefitted any of my ninjutsu i could clear bosses with just my kunai and had a nearly unlimited supply of them, my armor skills, weapons' and set bonus all together gave me like an 80% chance NOT to consume ninjutsu items on use. been trying to make something similar in Nioh 2 but am not able to because the skill system works differently in Nioh 2
well, in Nioh2 there're inheritable star effects with 15+% damage with throwing weapons. Also cool set for ninjutsu. I'm 100% sure you can make insane ninjutsu build in Nioh2, probably will make one next.

funny how playing the game normally on one's first playthrough makes most of the bosses you JUST CHEESED an absolute nightmare to fight it was certainly fun to see this though

First time ever seeing one of your videos, and I really enjoyed it. I really liked that it happens to be similar to my build, too! I've got some fun history facts about the game, though, to maybe help you understand a bit more and maybe at least learn some cool facts if you didn't already know. 1. Every major Japanese lord/human boss, the villain, as well as Edward and the Obsidian Samurai are all real people. In fact, many of the deaths that occur from these named characters are roughly when and where they died historically. That's why one lord sacrificed himself to save everyone in a burning castle. He died at that battle in real life. 2. The main character, William Adams, was the real first European samurai. The Obsidian Samurai is also Yasuke, potentially the first ever African samurai. 3. As people pointed out, Kelley was a real alchemist. What's not pointed out is that he died before the events of the game historically take place. His entire presence in-game is him after resurrecting from the dead, hence why the game refers to him as "the hollow man", as he historically should be dead and buried, but has been resurrected. 4. The very beginning of the game, Hattori Hanzo, a real and arguably the most famous ninja of all time, checks a cat's eyes before commenting on how much longer until the sun comes up. This is a real old-school technique. Because of the construction and sensitivity of a cat's eyes, they can be used as a natural clock to tell how much longer day or night might last. It's not an exact science, but there are charts you can easily find by just googling cat-eye clock. 5. Just to follow up something I said, yes, Hattori Hanzo was a very famous ninja. One might argue it a bad thing to be famous as a subterfuge agent, but it was a real thing that ninja would spread rumors about themselves to drive up fear and mystery, and since he worked directly for Tokugawa, they did keep records of him. Hanzo was said to be able to teleport, fly, and turn invisible, among many other things. He was also a samurai, master swordsman, and master tactician. He was so good as a ninja that he was responsible for the training and command of all other Iga ninja under the shogun. While yes he is a famous ninja, he really did have the talent to back up everything he did, and he is the reason why many ninja in pop culture, from Naruto to Overwatch, are named Hanzo.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! Also, I love fun facts! I've since learned that the cast was largely based on history, but I hadn't heard/considered that their deaths were also correlated with it. That makes the burning building death make so much more sense! It's interesting to see how some people have been integrated in culture through the years after things like shipwrecks. The necessity to adapt or die, I suppose. That sort of makes sense in a way. I'd imagine the writers room was a sight to behold. Someone pitching a dead alchemist that, as far as I can tell sort of lost it in his later years. Or at the very least, was making some pretty grand claims. A perfect candidate for a walking dead man. Shinobi techniques are fascinating in that they're archaic/eccentric. But also, they have a laundry list of somewhat fantastical ways of handling even mundane issues. It's hard to argue with their efficacy. Their use of things like gunpowder for instance being relatively ahead of its time. It's similarly really interesting hearing about outliers. I'm not super well versed with the history, but I know that there were some major guidelines regarding conduct among shinobi. Things like height/weight ranges. Diets, wardrobe choices, etc. One of the bigger ones I've heard being identity due to the implications of the profession on your honor as a person. Living a more "honorable" lifestyle as a samurai as well seems odd while also being known as a shinobi. And... being famous for it even while alive. Goes to show that those that go against the grain tend to make their way into history more often though.
I'm sure you already know this by now, but the big bad is called Edward Kelley because he's based on a real guy named Edward Kelley. Though he was just some old english dude, so likely wore less ominous black robes and probably didn't have vampiric pale skin and probably wasn't evil incarnate. (Unless he was from liverpool, then all 3 of those become significantly more likely)
Oh the grenade is called the midnight star in bl2 where the grenades come back to almost kill the player I mentioned would be a nightmare and insane if possible to pull off btw and I promise this is last comment for this morning lol sorry Found good content to binge just excited abt that
I'm at least fairly sure it can't be done on any of the OP levels. I think it's probably doable on normal if you start with it. I'm not sure at what point in between it stops being an achievable goal. I don't think I've ever tried using it before, but it looks like using a significantly more malicious Skyrocket. Which seems both funny and terrifying. Possibly requires some investigation.
I laughed out loud several times during this. Better than the magic run for some reason. One thing to note: DLC bosses were patched against kunai stuff. You need a super powerful niche build that’s hard as heck to farm in order to make it good.
You know. The very famously weak Oda. The incredibly easy starting boss who apparently swaps around elements and whatnot in an effort to... get stunlocked... somehow.
I remember me and my friends started the second version of this game all of them except for me and I started streaming I should get back to that I was kind of hilarious

Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! And it really is a game worth loving. It's been a lot of fun to go through. If nothing else, you were able to get some practice in for the additional playthroughs. I've heard the final go gets pretty brutally difficult, so it should serve you well if/when the pointy throwables stop bridging the gap.
I never even thought about just using ninja shiriken I never know anything about nioh when I started bit became one of my favorite thanks for the memories great vid
I can't say I've had a chance to try either of the other two yet, but if absolutely nothing else, the first game has a certain charm to it. There's a really messy feel to it that you don't really ever see with polished high budget games. It feels unapologetically itself, and I'm here for it.
I hadn't given it serious consideration, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely. It could be fun. Also potentially a nightmare. Part of the fun is finding out which, I suppose.
I'm not sure if/when I would have the time to run through the game to get as deeply into it as I'd like. I absolutely adore though just how much you can do with builds. It's a bit janky, but seeing the rock throwing build is both hilarious and feels inspired. Ya love to see weird build possibilities in games.
You used to be able to temper shuriken and kunai % damage on all of your armor which made you hit stupid hard even early on, but it was later removed and only allowed on the gloves slot of your armor People used to sit near the start or around other areas of the game and you could farm their revenants to get them

With how imbalanced my stats were, status effects weren't _that_ big of a deal. I'd usually die before it could be. Might be good to keep in mind for the future though. You know... if I can live long enough.
Derric the Executioner is a historical figure too. He had some impact on execution methods
He was apparently prolific enough that even some modern cranes are named after him and the method of execution he invented.
@@SpuddyCube he could not have caused so much death if he wozld be transformed in a yokai for real
I’m sure someone else may have pointed this out, but Kelley is an extreme fantasy based depiction of the real life Edward Kelley who was an alchemist in the service of Sir John Dee. John Dee was the court astronomer and advisor to Elizabeth I
I'm not super well versed with history, but it's really interesting looking back at the names/faces seeing just how much of the game was inspired by real world culture.
First video of yours I've seen, but it's great
Your commentary is funny and charismatic, and the editing, while low key, has alot of character
was just about say the exact same thing, this was an amazing video!
@@SpuddyCube Also at 3:06, that pronunciation was actually really close, even better than most TH-camrs i see, so well done. The only real differences would be some slight pitch adjustments, but even as it is it's a pretty good pronuciation
Oh, heck yeah! I tend to butcher foreign languages pretty badly. Pretty sure it was a fluke, but I'll take it!
@@SpuddyCube If you ever do a challenge run for Nioh 2, i'm studying Japanese and could assist with pronunciations if you're not sure
I absolutely intend to play the sequel when I get the chance. It's more a question of how much I will/won't be faced with words that are otherwise entirely unknown to me.
Your videos always make me happy, so I subscribed!
Dude, you really make me want do play this build, this looks so fun
Now just imagine how good it could be with actual weapons to fall back on! Especially for the first several hours.
@@SpuddyCube thats exactly what i thought lmao
I just realized that for me the reason I never got lost was because of enemy sense, I'd always end up heading to the next batch of enemies and work out my pathing through that, when I did get lost it was because I has killed everything
Considering ninjutsu is a legit playstyle, along with magic, this was a fun run to see. They were always this broken, and I, a bonafide sword idiot haven't learnt my lesson yet...
I find myself generally swapping between the extremes of pure ranged and pure melee. I swear, there's a really good in between in most games.
@@SpuddyCube besides, the progression of this game is gear based, not level, considering I beat the final dlc 80 levels underlevelled, though with greater difficulty
@@SpuddyCube Indeed, I don't think the irony was lost on him either.
this is our hero, a little confused but he's got the spirit!
I wonder why many people are making nioh content again ?
But I still love it
I can't speak for anyone else, but me personally, I finally had the time/desire to play through the game. It was a lot of fun! Seems like I've been missing out for... a lot of years now.
I haven't played Nioh in a long time already but it is easily my most fav of the Souls-Brone genres of games. Loved how they did their takes on the game, combat systems and so on. Story wise, it is actually pretty interesting, albeit a bit generic in the sense of it being a typical yokai bashing adventure, but hey, it's still a cool game.
this is entertaining and brings back memories
praying that the DLCs will be covered too
Thank you! And maybe in the future. I haven't gotten to try out the magic system yet, and I'm really curious!
@@SpuddyCube Leveling your health will do wonders, and using the right armor sets with appropriate bonuses will result in every magic/ninjutsu attack becoming tactical nukes.
Good luck with the frog.
Honestly I only used ninjutsu to drain enemies health, when I saw how awful is their damage I didn't know that even the first boss fight is doable, let alone any
The first boss definitely took the most prep, but they eventually come into their own. It just requires investing all of your amrita and gold into damage. All of it...
All of them sharp implements known for not being lethal as kunai were used as a mini crowbar to open things like windowpanels and the like
congrats for this run, ninjutsu and magic really destroy the game
i didn't remembered nioh 1 being this rough
Lol that text at the end: "Earned 1 samurai skill point for proficiency with a kusarigama." :D
You indeed killed that boss with a kusarigama, it was perfectly fine before that moment you used the kusarigama, just sleeping a bit.
Somehow survived absolutely everything, except an amateur swinging around a relatively esoteric weapon that's also under leveled.
he gave an arachnophobia warning. he so real. i subbed cuz of that
Rewatching this for like the 6th time after watching the new nioh magic video. Still very funny
Glad to hear that it holds up even after _a_ rewatch, let alone so many. Thank you!
@SpuddyCube Thank you for the entertainment. The dark souls fist run was great, and the remnant summons was a lot of fun too. I'd love to see more magic based challenge runs, but that's mostly because I'm a mage player when ever possible lol anyway, keep being great
"There'd probably an option to change the spoken language that I missed somewhere."
Not unless they patched it in at some point. I get that they were going for an outsider in a foreign land vibe, but it's a terrible decision for accessibility.
I passed on Nioh because I can't read quickly enough due to retinopathy.
Nioh 2 deserves som flak for using British accents for all these Japanese characters, but it lets me understand the narrative dialogue.
Ok you're definitely going to be big this was fantastic
Sorry you missed the last upgrade to the ninjutsu. That is what the makes the kunai truly OP. 💪
Maybe if I ever go through the DLC, I'll have a chance to try it out.
Looking forward for Nioh 2 ninjutsu run, should be easier since it has feather jutsus
I was already really excited to try it out. I hadn't even considered the thought of new skills to try out. Glancing through the list available, I'm only more so!
Hardest part of the ninjutsu only run is the start of it, Kunai have been broken since the game's original launch.
Oh absolutely. Just casually putting about nine hours into the first real mission of the game...
SpuddyCube "I learned about the fact the item shenobi boxes replenish ninjitsu I didn't use any through the playthrough because"
Me "because he didn't know what he was doing in the first place"
I, Tim, will bring the world to destruction.
First dlc gives you a G.Spirit that makes your Ninjutsu even stronger after you beat last Boss and going back to Japan
I couldn't get passed the first place with the barn. I was so lost the entire time
What's not shown in the video is the several hours I spent just lost on most of the maps throughout the game. Navigating is hard...
First time watching this and I laughed out loud at the Grunckle Stan, Gravity Falls reference
This was an incredibly hilarious video. I admire your dedication and determination!
I feel bad for you and the centipede 😂 You sir, are very entertaining😂😂😂
Just found your channel, i dig this vid
10:49 the open the noor joke went over everyone’s heads.
the forced anger/shouting is very 2012 minecraft let's play. maybe dial it back a bit.
With the Centipede boss fight, one of the only reasons I was able to beat it is because I used a special Spear attack that allows you to swing it around and hit everything within 10 ft. of you. That attack in the very center of the centipede's body, multiple times allows you to wipe out about 3 of its sections right there before the other sections start running away.
i loved comedy in this vid, subscribed
Everyone loves some good old Consumable (or adjacent) runs
bro how do you not have 1 million subs you’re easily my favourite youtuber right now your quality and scripts are so good
Thank you! That's really nice of you to say. That's incredibly flattering, and I'm at a loss for words but to say... Thank you so much.
on Nioh 2? ABSOLUTELY YES
on Nioh 1? probably yes but it may be hard af
All the more reason for me to be excited to try out the second game!
14:29 that must be the plot armor...
23:04 I told you it's the plot armor...
33:05 well it was obvious he was wearing plot armor...
Well dang, I've been getting my armor from the wrong supplier...
Loving the Monster Hunter references
lmao I had a pretty insane Ninja Built at the end of this game, i was hitting like 14,000 dmg with my Kunai and my armor skills all benefitted any of my ninjutsu i could clear bosses with just my kunai and had a nearly unlimited supply of them, my armor skills, weapons' and set bonus all together gave me like an 80% chance NOT to consume ninjutsu items on use. been trying to make something similar in Nioh 2 but am not able to because the skill system works differently in Nioh 2
well, in Nioh2 there're inheritable star effects with 15+% damage with throwing weapons. Also cool set for ninjutsu. I'm 100% sure you can make insane ninjutsu build in Nioh2, probably will make one next.
Spider warning, but no centipede warning. you monster.
If it makes you feel any better, that centipede hurt me in ways that the spiders couldn't... Also I always forget how much those things tend to bother people. I'm fine with insects. I hate arachnids. Centipedes don't bother me. Next time will include a warning.
You have no idea how hard it is to suppress my inner backseater.
I can imagine. I love the time that I've gotten to spend with the game, but I've learned since about a lot of things that the casual player would generally already know. Like that stances change your dodges. It's a complex enough game that well... I wouldn't recommend this as a first playthrough, but it was fun.
I can sum up the story for you in a nutt shell. White dude gets his fairy kidnapped and vows to literally kill everyone in japan until he gets it back, whatever team he's on doesn't matter he just wants his fairy wifeu
Man this game was bomb. Sad that they messed up wolong i hope they recover
If you take this build to way of nioh it destroys. But you have to take the time to build it right. Epic vid
nowonder shurikens are portrayed as weak/not main weapons anywhere else, the downplay is to balance the world
@@yep1486 basically lol. No, it's probably because you have to have everything just right and take alot of time. Otherwise it's not strong enough.
Great video
But at 0:20 you do keep stuff obtained in the tower, it just gets sent to the storehouse.
Thank you!
And I didn't know that. I think I heard contrary, and took it at face value. I suppose it goes to show how much I ever used the storehouse.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow. No! Wai-...Ow, ow. Stop IT! Ow. Ow, ow. No sto-...OW!"
Mad that this challenge run is pretty much how I did my 1st ever playthrough
funny how playing the game normally on one's first playthrough makes most of the bosses you JUST CHEESED an absolute nightmare to fight
it was certainly fun to see this though
It scares me to consider what that may eventually be like. To be humbled without my pointy throwing implements...
in fairness, the game's MKB setup is not the best and you cant change it
to my knowledge, you also cant change the language characters speak
both are options in Nioh 2
This is so sick bro. Thank you for this write up. Wish we could get more of this.
Oh the grenade is called the midnight star in bl2 where the grenades come back to almost kill the player I mentioned would be a nightmare and insane if possible to pull off btw and I promise this is last comment for this morning lol sorry
Found good content to binge just excited abt that
I'm at least fairly sure it can't be done on any of the OP levels. I think it's probably doable on normal if you start with it. I'm not sure at what point in between it stops being an achievable goal. I don't think I've ever tried using it before, but it looks like using a significantly more malicious Skyrocket. Which seems both funny and terrifying. Possibly requires some investigation.
Actually can’t believe I finished this game when I was 12, I can’t even imagine the current me beating it all lol
I laughed out loud several times during this. Better than the magic run for some reason. One thing to note: DLC bosses were patched against kunai stuff. You need a super powerful niche build that’s hard as heck to farm in order to make it good.
Uh oh. That's gonna make things interesting to go back to. Also, thank you! Glad to hear that you're enjoying them.
My moms name is Kelly, so this game has an Issac feel for me.
Nioh is a good game.
Nioh 2 is a crazy game.
You know what you have to do...
All in due time. Which is to say hopefully relatively soon.
it's really weird to think of Oda Nobunaga as having low poise
You know. The very famously weak Oda. The incredibly easy starting boss who apparently swaps around elements and whatnot in an effort to... get stunlocked... somehow.
I remember me and my friends started the second version of this game all of them except for me and I started streaming I should get back to that I was kind of hilarious
Love this game and love this video!! I’m doing ng++ and have a ninjitsu build. I can’t rely on the kunai in some settings ☹️. I wish I knew I could stun lock the bosses on my first playthrough
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! And it really is a game worth loving. It's been a lot of fun to go through. If nothing else, you were able to get some practice in for the additional playthroughs. I've heard the final go gets pretty brutally difficult, so it should serve you well if/when the pointy throwables stop bridging the gap.
the strongest being in the universe… dave
I never even thought about just using ninja shiriken I never know anything about nioh when I started bit became one of my favorite thanks for the memories great vid
you can fight me if you want but i love nioh way more than nioh2 or wo long
I can't say I've had a chance to try either of the other two yet, but if absolutely nothing else, the first game has a certain charm to it. There's a really messy feel to it that you don't really ever see with polished high budget games. It feels unapologetically itself, and I'm here for it.
Everyone knows that the Lord of All Evil is named Rick...not Tim...*scoff*
Great vid!
I see someone never bothered to blind his enemies.
Would've been mighty helpful against some bosses.
Will you do fist only ?
I hadn't given it serious consideration, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely. It could be fun. Also potentially a nightmare. Part of the fun is finding out which, I suppose.
wow, never expected one of these "can you beat" with Nioh
good work friend, very nice
It was a lot of fun to make! I'd love to revisit it at a later date. I'm more surprised that the games haven't been covered better.
Oh dude, hino enma was the first boss i cheesed with ninjutsu, just dodge to the side and back up to throw
The nioh games are incredible if you dont cheese them, but id love to see you get through into ng+4 (WOTN) with this to peep the Stone chucker build.
I'm not sure if/when I would have the time to run through the game to get as deeply into it as I'd like. I absolutely adore though just how much you can do with builds. It's a bit janky, but seeing the rock throwing build is both hilarious and feels inspired. Ya love to see weird build possibilities in games.
1:12 TIM = The Illusive Man aka Timmy and cant forget best one of all >>> That Man
What that's it? No dlc????? SAAAAAAAAD
TIM the ancient
You used to be able to temper shuriken and kunai % damage on all of your armor which made you hit stupid hard even early on, but it was later removed and only allowed on the gloves slot of your armor
People used to sit near the start or around other areas of the game and you could farm their revenants to get them
We both thought of the name Tim at 1:04
He's becoming far too powerful!
