WOW, are the people of Bergen blessed with this outstanding orchestra. I've listened to three pieces conducted by Edward Gardner this morning and every one is a triumph. Great sound and video production. Love it. Thanks for sharing. So sad there are so few views. This is a great performance.
Is this Norway's best orchestra? Sure sounds it. Certainly as good as Oslo. Maybe better, from what I am hearing with this perfect performance of this great masterpiece. Sounds much better than the NY Philharmonic I've been attending the past 7 years or so. This performance sounds as good as it gets. Makes me want to move to Bergen. Outstanding formidable conductor, to say the least. He seems humble too, doing a great job, while giving most credit to the players. Amazing to hear and see this for no charge on TH-cam.
All conductors should be expected to use NO score almost always. Bravo, EG. And he lets the orchestra bow FIRST, not himself or individual players. Conductors should learn from him. Orchestra first, before any soloists.
I share the exact same opinion with you. A conductor should learn the music thoroughly before taking the podium. Once you are on the podium, it's your show just like the soloist of a concerto. When you conduct a concerto it's the soloist's show when you may conduct from the score.
Bravo 👏 👏👏

Wow, what a meticulously prepared interpretation (+ camerawork)! Outstanding musicianship from the flutes, horns, brass and timpani.
Thank you!
The whole thing is miraculous and dynamic. Very rare indeed in a live performance.
Bravo!!!
