Looks like everyone enjoyed this massive experience,an opportunity for a unity of emotion , unashamed outpouring of feelings on every level for players and audience, and a great feat of performance for this conductor, bravo...
I hadn't heard the piece in a long while. Loved it, then got tired of it. With fresh ears, I have to say, that horn player's tone was extraordinary. I wouldn't mind being his next door neighbor.
I played this the end of my sophomore year at college. It opened myself up to the wonderful works of Tchaikovsky and this remains one of my favorites by him. Such a breathtaking performance.
I'm simply speechless and intimidated from the explosion at 13:27... It's like an appalling war cry: in a moment the accumulated power bursts with violence. Not all the interpretations of this piece are so powerful!
I love this orchestra! A vigorous rendition of the 5th, remembering a recording I listened to as a kid, which probably sounded more subdued on a mono record player. Bravo Maestro Honeck. Love your work with the PSO too!
¡Bravo!

This symphony is a wonderful example of how a master of composition can create greatness out of the mundane. I'm talking about the theme on which the whole work is based - it's really a rather trite series of notes, but Tchaikovsky transforms it into something magical.
@@karllieck9064 The fact that the 8-note theme which opens the symphony is hardly a piece of sparkling melodic invention, now is it? Duh, da-da duh, da-da duh, duh.

He has performed this work many times, but this Frankfurt performance was just the best ever, so exciting and romantic, and weren't the orchestra thrilled also? Bravo to all.
Someone in the comments said they thought the horn solo in the second movement was bad. I have to disagree! I think it was superbly done. The tempo is quite slow and he really carried the phrase and gave it motion, one of the hardest things to do. I have played this piece many times and I think all of the woodwind playing was first rate, which is to be expected from this orchestra.
I thought it was top notch-- if I had to find something I'd say he wasn't quite with the conductor in the last bars, but at that point you're lucky your brain is working at all.
A thrilling yet subtle and substantial recording of a masterwork. I have nothing but praise for hr-Sinfonieorchester and maestro Honeck. Thank you for sharing.

Rehearsal letters on sheet music to divide sections, have no effect on the music but handy to use during rehearsal. The Italian terms announce change in tempo.
@@ethodda thank you very much 👍
The Waltz is phenomenal. The body movement really rounds out the rich tone with some playfulness. Made my day.
Amazing how this waltz fulfills the promise made by the waltz in the Third Symphony!
Given that the 2nd movt. is more or less the most emotionally convincing piece of art produced by a human, your mentioning of the 3rd comes off more or less as treason. To the Gulag!
@@netizencapetI agree with you about the second movement! As far as the waltz is concerned, I was only trying to highlight the degree to which Tchaikovsky had developed his art between 1876 and 1888! No offense meant, quite the contrary!
I can't describe how wonderful this symphony is. It's just full of colours, the melody, just bright in colours
A DIVINE interpretation, in every respect! I'm in love with Honeck's tempi and dynamics!
Absolutely!!
People complain (rightfully) about conductors who wave their hands needlessly as if dancing... with Maestro Honeck I don't think this is the case. Everything he does seems to be calculated to have an effect on the sound (or some other aspect of the performance) without any unnecessary movements. This to me is the sign of a truly great conductor. I also love the elegance and grace with which he addresses the audience and musicians before, during and after the concert. Incredible
Exactly the performance i was looking for! The sonorité, the energy, the horn, bassoon and clarinet solos in the second movement... just wow. In my opinion one of the best if not even THE best performance here on TH-cam!

Completely impeccable performance and interpretation with many details and notes played exquisitely and tastely, especially the tempo.
One of the most romantic symphonies.
I know of no other composer that elicits such raw emotion from his compositions. This symphony is a masterpiece and it is played with wonderful precision. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony never disappoints!
Brahms easily does it.
@@citizent6999 That is one of the great things about classical music, everybody has an opinion on such matters and no one is wrong because the music impacts us differently as individuals. I am also a big fan of Brahms and can easily see your point.
@@mysticwanderer4787 Exactly, and this orchestra always satisfies us with its wonderful performances!
@@citizent6999Brahms has never moved me to tears once.
Wunderbare Melodie, in beiden Versionen
Wonderful hats off to every artist in hr symphony orchestra, great.
Im old now, but I hear this pieces of the great Piotr since I was a baby. It´s a neverending emotion to hear Tchaikovsky music. The best in whole instruments combination. And the unique who gaves to the horn a 1st plan in a piece.
Excelente Sinfonía!!!!!! Junto a la 4ta. Y 6ta.
❤😂🎉😮😅😊 Thanks to Tchaikovsky and all of you. At time I lost grips over my head, when I discovered to listen him I really recovered a lot. Many many thanks. Wish you all a very nice and prosperous future.
24:45 and the minute after it are some of the best moments in all of music to me
Been a nice quiet morning coffee n classical music front door open in the country very relaxing aaahhh
Una interpretación realmente magistral!!
Un gran director con una gran orquesta.
Todo mi reconocimiento a ésos talentos 👌
Awesome!! This is the new standard of the Tchaikovsky symphony no.5
Couldn’t agree more!
HR Symphony Orchestra is rapidly becoming one of my favorite interpreters of classical symphonies. Great performance. Brisk tempo, expressive melodies, lively dynamic range, beautiful harmony. Rubato when needed
Of course, Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony is a sublime masterpiece at anyone's hands.
Meesterlijk!!!
This is a work that I thought that I had heard more than once too often, but how wrong I was! Maestro Honeck is a master and has made this work gleam with new life! The orchestra is splendid, as they always are. Thank you for posting this superb performance.
Tchaikovsky composed such elegant, majestic music!
I love this performance as it shows the respect that the performers have for Tchaikovsky.
Looks like everyone enjoyed this massive experience,an opportunity for a unity of emotion , unashamed outpouring of feelings on every level for players and audience, and a great feat of performance for this conductor, bravo...
@12:15 The added string portamento!! Perfect!!! Honeck has become a true sculptor of sound!!
Now i became obsessed with this amazing observation.. thank you!
@@gilmandel An excellent and gracious comment.
¡Bravo!

I like the idea of putting solo but I'm not so sure if this is a solo because it's really short but it may just be my definition.
Honeck is conducting my heartbeat ... by far the best Tchaikovsky 5 I have ever heard… By far
A marvelous performance, MANY MANY THANKS
This is so stunning !! I am out of words of how spectacular this performance is.
Goodness me 😮😮😮 what inspired mad genius Pyotr Tchaikovsky to compose this triumphant symphony! Absolutely free reins of emotions, raw, yes, heart on sleeve! His compositions really bring out all the passion and skills of the orchestra 🤯💥 how skillful are these artists to bring to life the robust spirit of of his music! Bravo everyone! 🔥👏👏👏👏
The second movement... So many details and nuances. What a masterpiece.
GRACIAS !!! Saludos desde España.
This symphony is a wonderful example of how a master of composition can create greatness out of the mundane. I'm talking about the theme on which the whole work is based - it's really a rather trite series of notes, but Tchaikovsky transforms it into something magical.
Wth are you talking about?
@@karllieck9064 The fact that the 8-note theme which opens the symphony is hardly a piece of sparkling melodic invention, now is it? Duh, da-da duh, da-da duh, duh.
This is a very nice orchestra, great woodwind players!!
Tchaikovsky's pieces never ceases to amaze me, all his works will resonate in my head until death parts my memory.
Frankfurt radio symphony orchestra sounds always beautiful!
Yup
I don't know classical music that well but I love this French horn solo, I like this Tchaikovsky piece, it's all so beautiful, I'm very impressed....

Unbelievable composer, unbelievable work , unbelievable orchestra & conductor 🎩 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Bravo!!! its a great performace, fantastic conductor and orchestra..thank you
une des plus belle symphonie de Tschaikowsky
Bravo Marc Gruber!
A splendid rendition of that most lovely of horn solos.
I agree.
Bassoon mom891 Where Marc Gruber scores in this and other HR videos is what I would call "lightness of touch." I think he's excellent.
Also
I thought it was top notch-- if I had to find something I'd say he wasn't quite with the conductor in the last bars, but at that point you're lucky your brain is working at all.
Absolutely amazing composer and Congratulations Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra
A thrilling yet subtle and substantial recording of a masterwork. I have nothing but praise for hr-Sinfonieorchester and maestro Honeck. Thank you for sharing.
what an incredible experience was that, its so beautiful, the struggle of tchaikovsky really made me cry at that 2nd movement, unbelievable

This orchestra is just so incredible, the amount of expression this orchestra brings to this Tchaikovsky Symphony is just outstanding! Danke Schön🙏🙏🙏
The emotion in this symphony is INCREDIBLE!! I have always loved and admired the way Tchaikovsky projects what he puts on the page. I one day hope to play this piece live
The melody at 25:00 made me cry.
A great live performance, beautifully interpreted, and well articulated. Honeck is among the world's finest conductors, one who gets the best from any orchestra fortunate enough to work with him.
