One thing about the Chord Map feature that I wish they'd change, is that there is no way to 'freeze' one of the chords at whatever inversion you like best. You can only keep cycling through the inversions by holding down one of the modifier pads. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to be able to choose whichever one you like for that song, and apply it to that chord pad?
Is it possible to get it to display the names of the chords you are playing on the keys, whilst you are in drum pad mode? Like it does on user chord mode. I don't have any practical reason for this I just think it would be nice.
Yeah the chords are definitely a step up on my Mk3!! Not sure I like how they swapped the pads and faders, my muscle memory won't like that lol. I might do what you're doing, I'll just grab the small mk4 to compliment my larger Mk3
I didn't really get into incorporating the features from the MK3 into my workflow. I really like these features and will be adding the controller somewhere into my setup. I think I'll do what I did in the video and just power the controller and use the MIDI out to send the midi to my DAW.
I LOVE that the pads can also be combinations! I find it so annoying that Ableton does not allow to MIDI map them all, like ctrl T, ctr Z etc. Please tell me that this function can be added to the launchpads as well....
I'm guessing I could plug this into my Moog Subphaty for some pretty cool Bass grooves for live improvisation. Maybe use chord functions with Korg Wavestate. All as bonus features beyond looking for a new controller keyboard for Ableton Live.
I know that the knobs can be programmed using components to send out midi cc’s. But my question is - when you are using the arp features such as adjusting the gate for example, is that also sending out cc’s while you do that? In other words, could you use an external midi recording device to “record” those knob movements as automation? (Or, does the keyboard itself have away to record automation of knob movements?)
If you record the MIDI from the arp and you increase and decrease the gate length those changes are recorded in the MIDI clip. I haven't tested if it records the movement onto the Launchkey though.
I have the (older) mk3. When the knobs adjust the arp parameters, they do not also send out CC at the same time. Your knobs are always in a certain “mode” and the CC mode is separate from the arp parameters mode. (I can’t speak for the mk4 specifically)
@@craigwilliamsmusic right and even +50ms latency can already be very annoing. the MK4 aren't exactly "portable devices" either - the 41 & 61 variants certainly not 🙂
Why not put a proper stand-alone sequencer (not talking about that 8-step arp) in here so it becomes a proper MIDI keyboard for live shows instead of just a DAW controller? If Akai can do it for less money why can't you?

I’m going to pass this along to the rest of the team to see about a possible update.
@@craigwilliamsmusic cheers thanks
I think loopop mentioned this as well but it would be very cool if the chord map could be used directly with the arpeggiator
It’s pretty high on the list for an update.
Good!

100% The 48 & 61 both allow for splits so you can send midi information out to multiple instruments from the one controller

@@craigwilliamsmusic thank you
You're welcome matey, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

@@RJ_Eckie Oooh, ok thanks. Hopefully the mk4 is different
add Bluetooth to this and its will be a must to get for me hope on mk5
and have latency coming with it
not really big latency xD
i already have many BT midi and widi
I’m definitely a cable guy. I see the issues some of my other Bluetooth devices have. I don’t want to bring that stress into the studio.

Does the new launchkey mk4 have support for REASON?
There is a script to integrate it into Reason. Along with Ableton, Logic, and, Cubase.
Wonder how it would handle acid with that sequencer. Hmm, interesting! Cheers :)

Unfortunately, I have zero say or input over the design. That would be a question for the design team.
