- In this video I show you how to play the fan-made Sonic the Hedgehog Remake called "Project '06".
I have had my Steam Deck for about a month now and am really enjoying it! I couldn't find a guide showing how to setup Project '06 on the shiny new handheld. So... here we are!

Thanks so much! I've got pretty much every other Sonic game on Deck but this and the ps360 version of Unleashed. I'd like it better if it had the cutscenes and the rest of the game content but this is awesome. This works great for me with proton experimental. Highest settings seem no problem

@@craigbandicoot yeah but normally it plays a video of a level but it seems it only shows this on steam deck so something must be wrong
I believe you just have to use GE proton in the compatibility tab, and it should work just fine!

How did you get the game to run? I'm trying to use Proton 7.0-6 since 7.0-4 isn't an option.
@@mee6606 I used 7.0-6 (or 5) as well and the game ran for me. Have you tried Proton Experimental?
Oh, I'm reading the other comments and others are having the issue as well, apparently. That's weird. I'll try looking into it later
@Jugglenaut Yeah, I've tried both, and they don't seem to be working.
@@mee6606I had it downloaded recently and I just had the default proton that it picked for me and it booted up fine. Not sure why others are having issues with this it works fine for some and for others I guess it don't boot up super strange.

Doesn't seem like it works anymore, 7.0-4 isn't selectable anymore and every other version of Proton refuses to boot it.
It just gets stuck at the boot screen at 3:45.
You should do a showcase of all the PS3 games you've got running well. Looks like you've got a lot on there!
I’ve found PS3 games difficult to run smoothly on the deck, even switch games run better most of the time! Curse that cell processor!
When I added the exe it had some weird stuff instead of spaces in the paths so I had to manually remove those (%20)
How to I make it full screen I only have a middle section of the screen
What's the best setting's for battery life on this game, been playing for like 3 months now and haven't even once thought to look at the settings..this game makes the deck run!! I hear that fan going crazy.
For the Video in the beginning to work you have to use a different proton in the silver update the controler as well as the opening requres a different set up

just a heads up, you can only play individual stages from sonic, shadow, and silver with P06, and ive gotten consistent 60fps on regular sonic 06 with xenia launcher with minimal setup on SD Oled. also way shorter load times than i remember from when i was a kid

Hopefully i get an answer,,is there a reason we can only pick act trials? and is there a way to play this with an xbox controller?
This is a fan made game, the trials are available at the moment with the hope the full game will be available soon!
Has anyone got the Silver Update running? I've tried everything but can't get it to run at all.
I've been tinkering around and hopefully will make a video soon. I'd advise using older proton versions to get the Silver version running.
This is super helpful! Thanks so much! I got it running, but it always hovers around 25-35 fps. I can’t get the framerate any higher, even with settings lowered all the way. Is that to be expected?
Unfortunately yes. As it is fan-made and not optimised for the Steam Deck this is the best we will be getting at the minute, at least from my playing around with it. If you do happen to get a higher fps please let me know!
@@craigbandicoot im confused because the other video showing gameplay of p-06 on the deck showed an fps counter and it was hitting 60

@@craigbandicoot Lower the graphics settings lol, make sure v-sync isn't set to half or something dumb like that
Hi sir, its me again months after getting a steam deck. So i use the same controller "gamepad with joystick" but for some reason it no longers with P06, nor does my PS5 controller. Do you perhaps have any solutions?
Are you aware of assigning controllers to P1 and P2? You access this menu by pressing the "..." button. That is the only thing I can think of. For some games I press the steam button, open and close that menu and the controller works!

I believe a video is suppose to play at this point but due to the file structure of linux the game cannot reference it correctly on the Steam Deck.
If I’ve S ranked a lot of stages, will my progress transfer over when Chaosx releases another update?
I'm not too sure. When the latest update is released backup your save data, transfer it over and let us know!
Might be a dumb question, but do I need to download sonic, shadows and silvers episode for sonic p06 to work?
Not a dumb question! With every update a hedgehog is added, so when you download the recent version it will have all the previous content included.

How do I get rid of the static background when I boot up the game
It should be the intro movie but I believe this is because it is trying to run the video file but unable because of the proton layer/file path. If you can find a way please share!

I followed this guide and the game does run but it’s in a very tiny box centered in the steam deck it’s not full screen and most of the game is out of view. Any idea how to make it full screen?
Sounds like it could be the resolution? Are you able to navigate to the settings in game and change it at all?

Is there any way to fix the overheating issue? I seem to only have this problem when playing Project 06.
I've never heard of overheating! Perhaps reducing to 30 FPS?

So I've followed this guide closely. I'm installing the silver release. However no selectable version of Proton is launching this game. What am I supposed to do?
Nevermind, I got it working. I think something went wrong with the download or something
How did you get this working? What proton version did u pick? Everytime I click play nothing launches
@@captaincz5763 I use the latest version of Proton GE (Like 8.5 I think?). I noticed it worked with others like Experimental. What I did was I downloaded a different link and it worked fine. The mirror one was the one that didn't work, and the google drive one did work. This was on the Silver release video and not the Shadow release
@@Ragiroth ok, I've installed proton GE now but the only issue is that the damn drive version doesn't pop up. The media fire one is the one I downloaded first but even that's not working
@@captaincz5763 Weird. It let's me download it. It says it can't preview it, I click download, then it says "Google drive can't scan for viruses" and I click "download anyway"

I believe this is the case with everytime I have done it too. If you're able to get it too work please let me know!
@@craigbandicootcertain versions of proton work differently with the game, ive personally found it easiest to mess around with them until it works properly

Use whichever one works for you. Experimental is always a good start.

Can you mod Sonic 06 to install mods like legacy of solaris?
It’s a fan made game so I doubt it. I’d message the creator and see what they say.
For some reason it just doesn't work for me. Doesn't boot up, only crashes.
Is Proton enabled? Perhaps selecting the experiment version might help?

If it gives you Failed to load mono you may have to download the project 06 file again and extract Files again I had the same issue

Nope does not work for me I think maybe something broke it
Only thing I can think of is that Proton 7 0-4 is now 7 0-5. If there is a way to install an older version of proton, that'd be the key.
It's just random for some people I guess on the boot up, I had it downloaded recently (removed it for space till I get a better Micro SD) but I had it on the default proton that it picks for you and it booted up just fine for me.
