    Removing the pin and weld is an option. I have a BCM 14.5 and took it to my gunsmith to remove the factory pin and weld muzzle device. I had it replaced with a new pin and weld SF closed tine flash hider.

      Good to know, seems like a lot of work though. Did they have to chop the barrel? How much did it cost?

      @@defencivsolutions Not a lot of work, honestly. Not barrel cut. He used a dremel tool on the muzzle device, where the pin and weld is, being careful enough not to damage the threads. I don’t recall how much I was charged I had it done about 2yrs ago

      What are you gonna do that 14.5 won’t work ? 14.5 is plenty short enough & almost 16 which most consider the sweet spot .

    I built a 13.7. After that I decided that I'll only go with 16" for anything else.
    I love my 13.7. It runs like a dream and if I replaced the barrel it would be with another 13.7 or 13.9, but I would put a non adjustable gas block on it. But I won't make another rifle that needs to be p&w in case I need to service it. If you can't remove that p&w your not just replacing the barrel. It's rail, muzzle device, gas block and tube also.
    But 16" with lpvo is great for the distance of 5.56 cart and never have to worry about legalities of less than 16"

    Being a long time hunter & seeing lpvo take off is something I love but a redot or irons is needed. A simple lil bump can throw any lpvo or scope off especially budget options. The amount of times I’ve knock scopes off getting it into a stand or just walking into the woods is crazy. Now companies have gotten better but still scares me. I’ve never nocked a dot off.

    My go to is a 14.5 BCM ELW mid length upper with a war comp pinned, FCD NP3 BCG, LPFA, TA02 led acog. Samson stubby vertical grip. Surefire M600DF W/ one hundred concepts cap.
    LMT MARS lower. B5 sopmod stock and B5 grip. Samson cleaning rod in the stock with lube and bore brush in the grip. Spare batteries in the other stock tube (two CR123, one AA), Ferro slingster. FCD mag release button with the +power spring so less likely to dump mags on gear. Especially important with the ambi mag release on the MARS.
    Things I still need to add: a Holosun 507 to piggyback on the Acog, TK4 tourniquet pouch on the sling, eventually a FP PEQ. Maybe a lighter QD mount for the Acog like the MI one lever. And way done the line a Surefire RC2 would make it about perfect.

      Dude, cleaning rod and bore brush stashed on the rifle is a great idea. Now I'm thinking about changing my Magpul SL stock to the SL-S version so I can do the same thing. Thanks for the ideas!

    I don’t think I’d sacrifice less ballistic performance, and pay the $200 tax stamp to make it an SBR, just to shave less than 2 inches off the overall length. 16” is fine for CQB, perhaps not ideal, but I’ll take the better ballistics if the idea for the rifle is more of a true SHTF rifle.

    So this is your SHTF rifle but you dont have a way to dismount your primary optic quickly. How does that stand with your logic of SHTF preparedness? Optics get snow, fog, rain, dirt in them and they can break. Honestly I run canted irons all of my AR's so that I can simply make that switch right then and there and dont have to worry about the optic. All of my optics are still QD, but it is way faster to just tilt the gun. It also helps in close quarters where the optic would be annoying -- though in buildings you dont always want to have that rifle up in your face. Disadvantages would be using the gun with a bipod while canted, and still having extra weight on the gun if the optic fails -- which i can just throw away/stash the optic if its that bad. You dont need to do somehting every day before you run into issues. You can do it just once, you could even drop the thing and break the glass before even using it. Things can go wrong at any point and at any moment. I speak from experience. I am a veteran, recreational shooter, a sailor, and work with electricity/industrial equipment -- everyone reading build your guns to be extremely durable in a way that bypasses most issues. Build it right the first time and save money in the long run. Keep extra parts. You should be able to service each rifle at least once but preferably two or three times -- what you have is what you get. For the best general purpose rifle build I recommend an ACOG with a flash hider, canted irons, a heavy barrel (12"-16"), a bird cage style flash hider (recommend a suppressor as well), ambi controls, m16 cut lower, grips that feel comfortable to you, a free floating barrel/handguard config (M-Lok can be nice but I have had parts loosen up on me), a really good BCG, and good mags. If you run any optic or light cover that up when you are not using it because you can be spoted very easily and it serves as lens protection. The less complicated the better. I also recommend having a lightweight bipod if you are in flat areas so that you have something to rest your gun on. As for paint, cover up the stuff you dont want painted and throw 1-3 dark and light colors in no particular pattern running vertical on the gun. I recommend a balance of 50% dark and %50 light to really break up that silouhete. Stay away from V shaps and straight lines. Your paint will get scrathed up in the field so dont waste tons of time and money on it. Cerakote is cool, its still going to chip. Keep it simple. For rifles that you want to have suite other purposes by all means build them, but this is for a general purpose billet that gets the majority of tasks done well enough, it isnt perfect, but it can work.

      @user-uo6pc3pi1i 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      (Note: I had paused the video to type the comment and see now that you did mention the canted irons, good stuff)

    • @defencivsolutions
      @defencivsolutions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I honestly talked about just about everything you said in the video. Unless you're actively getting shot at, taking off your optic in 0.3 seconds is likely not necessary. That's SHTF-larping-fantasy. It also isn't hard to store the alan key or torx key somewhere on the rifle.
      The downside to running canted irons is that you cannot easily utilize them when shooting from the off-hand shoulder (doesn't happen often). But everything else you said is accurate. Keep it simple, use what works for you.
