    Caught in the cycle of building cool setups for the sake of cool setups? Nothing wrong with that, but at some point, you should build a loadout based on what would be most effective in the environment you find yourself in the most often. Josh goes over his Ripcord 14.5 that he built and the kit he assembled once he left Portland and moved into the hills of Tennessee. Sound off in the comments what kind of loadout is ideal for where you live.

    You need to consider hunting calibers if you are wearing rifle plates out in rural areas. Bubba's 30-06 will vibe check those L210s. Keep up the good work.

    I work in the food logistics industry/inventory control for grocery stores. Most grocery stores get resupplied multiple times a week. What you see on the shelves is typically what they have. The back of grocery stores doesn't have a whole lot of space for storage, so whatever they have in the back is just enough to fill the empty spaces on the shelves.
    Even the big warehouses that feed all your local/regional grocery stores get resupplied 5 times a week....

    As someone living in a rural area, I would argue that a 1-6 isn’t enough magnification. If you are going to run a red dot with your scope, I would say a 2-10 would be the bare minimum. Love the channel! Keep it up!

    • @tylerbyars

      I think going past 6x really depends on your shooting ability (speaking for myself I definitely can't shoot well enough at range to use more than 6x or maybe 8x) because of that and then the effective range of 556 I'd personally rather have the weight/cost savings honestly

    • @MrJbedo
      @MrJbedo 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@tylerbyarsI think there's that I have a 1-6x. But honestly it's not just the ability to make hits at distance. I think the big thing is PID, as well as just being able to scout ahead and get a real visual of what sits ahead while maintaining distance.

    • @tylerbyars
      @tylerbyars 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MrJbedo the ID part is something I honestly hadn't thought about. I'm close to doing an lpvo build and that might push me towards the 8x actually. But I'm also a professional photographer and know that at a certain point of zoom length optical quality and cost and weight start getting really tough to strike the right balance....so we'll see what I end up doing lol

      The quality of the cinematography from such a new channel is a sure sign that this channel is industry-backed. That's fine but a bit shady. You can actually see this guy(the one showing off the gun/gear in this video) in some of T.Rex Arms videos. For example, he was in the video where they tested the Aero Precision M5(AR10). He appears when the firing pin breaks. That was before this channel even started.

    That’s good stuff. I would like to make one suggestion; you should consider a 16” barrel. I realize many seem enamored with the 14.5 barrel but it’s a 300 yard gun. What I mean is that while you can hit targets at ranges past 300, that doesn’t mean you will have an effective hit at those ranges; ie the maximum effective range of an M16A2 is 500 yards. Also 16” is the shortest barrel length that effectively stabilizes the 55 grain projectile.

    • @ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz
      @ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      1.5" of barrel makes more difference in handling than it does at range.
      There also is a reasonable minimum length to stabilize 55 grain. One needs a minimum twist rate, which all modern ARs will meet or exceed.

    • @fanman8102
      @fanman8102 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz - sorry, I didn’t receive a notice you responded. The SEAL snipers figured it out. They wanted a sniper rifle with a max effective range of 600 yards that was 10 lbs or less they could also use in a firefight. They had their armorers remove the 14.5” barrel from the M4, install a stainless 16” barrel and a two stage trigger then added a scope shooting a 77 grain match grade projectile. The result was called the SEAL Sniper or M4 Sniper. The birth of the so called “recce rifle.”
      Edit - you can Google it. It is also called the SEAL Recon Rifle.

      KISS is a fluid term however. Whats simple now was super complicated back twenty years ago. KISS has always meant "grab what you need", but what you grab and what you need vary WILDLY depending on your situation and location. Sure, a Brown Bess musket is super simple, but why on earth would you handicap yourself like that?
      An M16A1 is a great system, but lets face it: an older A1 does not have the adaptablity and the capability as a URGI style build, and for us Civvies, being able to configure your kit to your needs (and the enemies capabilities) is the order of the day.

    16 inch is the best do it all barrel length in my opinion. 14.5 isn't that much of a handicap either though. I also like the idea of a 18 inch 6mm arc. For my part of the country. There are a lot of wide open spaces between the forests and wetlands. Lots of farm land, so depending on the time of year there could be miles and miles of basically flat land.

      The thing about 14.5" is there are a lot of really, really good and rugged optics with a BDC matched to that length because obviously the military uses it. For example, a lot of the ACOGs use a 14.5" for their BDC and it matches up really well even when using different ammo. I was shooting my DD M4A1(block 2 M4) with a TA31 RCO and made first round impacts at 500m with 77gr even though the reticle is designed for 62gr.
      It also just feels right. It feels very "wieldy". Yeah, you gotta pin and weld which kinda sucks but just select a really good muzzle device, I usually go with a Surefire flash hider although the 3 prong has been impossible to find for the last year and I don't know what is going on with that.
      I also am a big fan of 11.5" with a suppressor but I don't currently own a suppressor so I just shoot my 14.5" pin and weld guns. I'm gonna get a can soon though. May as well get a Surefire RC2 since I already got a bunch of the muzzle devices lol.

    I don't mean to be grumpy, but it sounds like you have a multi thousand dollar carbine that's really only suitable for fighting fairly close. Out here in the hinterlands you'll be facing heavy caliber rifles with some serious glass, and frequently encountering 30-06, 8mm, and others on irons. Keep in mind that when you're traveling your literally passing through other people's rifle ranges. It's one big marksmans alley.

    • @Cowboy.underwater
      @Cowboy.underwater 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m assuming the goal with this carbine is to have enough firepower to get yourself out of a tight spot if you need to. The problem with building a counter sniping rig to go against big 7mm and 30 cal rifles is that you don’t know that they’re there until they start shooting, at which point it’s too late.

      And that preparedness budget should only be spent after you have spent on financial stability, low debt, investing for retirement, etc.

      And be honest. 99% of time night vision is used for working not training is hunting.
      And for hunting (also for civilian security-as long as threat of adversary having NODs is reasonably low) you can easily make do with digital NV Clip-on. This can be had for as low as 80$.
      There's lot od things to take care od before buying proper NODs.

      @@johnbaker4246 Ahhh yes, the voice of reason. The fact of the matter is...the guy in this video gets most of this stuff for free or significantly discounted. He works in the gun industry in some way shape or form. He appeared in Trex arms videos before he started this channel. For example he appears(albeit briefly) in the Aero M5 video they put out and that was before this channel existed.
      In fact most of the guys advocating night vision ownership on youtube work in the gun industry. Is it a cool thing to have? Yes. Is it actually practical? Not even a little bit. Night Vision has never been used in a civilian defensive scenario. Literally not even once. Having a quality white light on your firearms puts you ahead of 90% of the population.
      I've noticed that these "SHTF" scenarios involve everyone becoming hostile to everyone else. That just isn't how human conflict works. Even the most brutal civil wars have "teams". Your local area will be under the control of a warlord and his militia. THAT is how human warfare works. There is always a warlord. If society collapses--rest assured, there will be a warlord.
      Honestly, SHTF is never going to happen the way people say it is. Not in our lifetimes anyway.
