I as well will be loading 80gr ttsx Barnes in my 6arc bolt action for coyotes! You guys didn’t really get too far in depth about the cartridge tho, why Hornady introduced it, why kind of bc, ect.
I have and still do personally run the 6 ARC in a bolt gun in PRS as well as Competition Dynamics team matches. I have documented 6,000 rounds and counting down pipe of a barrel and still shoots near 1/2 MOA. It's capable of pushing a 105gr Berger Hybrid at 2950 FPS with some room to hit over 3K. A phenomenal cartridge that I'm happy to see standardized as I played with the Wildcat variants in the past
What are you shooting a 26 inch pipe? So that 2950 with a 26 inch barrel will convert to an anemic 2550 witha 18 inch barrel. Where a 6.8 SPC with a 95 grain ttsx is doing 2750 FPS with a 16.5 inch barrel. The 6mm ARC so far is being promoted as a 24 inch target gun all numbers are coming from LONG barrels the hype is in full swing!
Target shooting the 6ARC in a standard AR15 platform with a 20" barrel at 1000+ yds is a hoot. Virtually no recoil. Clear sight picture of vapor trails, impacts & misses. And took my first deer with it this year with a 108gr Berger EOL. Dropped her on the spot very impressively. Love the cartridge.
Gentlemen I watched and subscribed, nice video. Many years ago I carried the M1A1 Carbine on my first several inserts as my secondary firearm, the CAR15, AR15 as well in later years. For 47 years I've been waiting for someone to make a ONE rifle, ONE projectile option for the AR platform. I bought an Aero Precision complete upper in 16", an Aero Precision lower. I also have a 6MM Remington in a 700 Remington bolt gun, that's 37 years old. With 105 Hornady Black I printed 1/2" 100 yard groups. I've got it zeroed at 500 with the iron sights, mounting a1x8 scope. Little recoil, little heat. With my dies and loading materials I believe I have the tool for up close and personal and extended range work the M1A1 Carbine and M4 could not achieve. The 5.56 NATO in a short rifle is poor at ranges past 350 yards in wind. The 6MM ARC with 105's handles wind much better is flatter than the 5.56 inthe M4. My AR15 A2 with a 20" barrel and 69 grain Hornady match is flatter at 600 yards by a bit than the 16" 6MM ARC but the ARC blows the 5.56 away in the wind. I have faith that the 103 Hornady will work just fine, ONE projectile ONE rifle for all my general rifle needs. Buy it you'll like it.
@@Chester_Oliver I've studied every broken bolt in a 6MM ARC I can find. I have found zero broken bolts in factory assembled AR 15's that only use factory ammo or using reloads that strictly adhere to Hornady load formulas. What I have found is that the 6MM ARC in the AR platform has been designed to operate at upper levels of bolt thrust pressures. This makes assembling or manufacturing an AR15 in 6MM ARC a task only for superior assemblers and manufacturers. The same can be said about hand loading 6MM ARC ammunition. Changing bolt carrier groups to a lightweight bolt carrier is a non-starter, using nonstandard buffers, improper length gas systems and chamber dimensions to mention a few. Loading max loads (52,000 PSI) without good quality control is also a non-starter, as is utilizing faster powders with heavy weight projectiles. The 6MM ARC was designed with LeverEvolution powder and utilizing 103, 105 and 108 grain projectiles. Yes, it's a one trick pony but it does that one thing very well. That's why I bought mine. It requires superior assembly, manufacturing and reloading. So does the 6.5 Grendel so my suggestion is that it you're an experimenter neither 6 MM ARC not the 6.5 Grendel in an AR 15 platform may be for you.
Building one for my 6 yr old as his hunting AR. Seems like the best round for him to do coyotes, deer, groundhogs. Also Ryan looking happy to be back for day 3, wearing the same cloths is hilarious. Thanks guys.
6.5 Grendel is a better hunting round and for a kid itd be every bit as mild and tame in terms of recoil. The heavier pills of the 6.5 Grendel just do a better job on deer and anything else youre shooting. The 6mm ARC would be a great combat round but the Grendel is the better hunting round.
I'm building a 6mm ARC now, but it has big shoes to fill when it comes to my Grendel. I'm handloading 120 grain gold dots and my hogs and deer pay with their life at range. Being able to resize 7.62 x 39 brass to use in the Grendel is a bonus
@@countduku9470 your right its not sooo much better, I just prefer its performance characteristics, it's faster flatter shooting with better range and still decent kinetic energy
@@spread4me75 In every respect that matters to a hunter, the 6ARC represents only a marginal improvement over the 6.5G. BC on the 108gr bullet is shooting slightly flatter than a 168gr .308 which shoots slightly flatter than a 123gr 6.5G out of an 18" barrel. At 300yds, the 6.5G is putting out a little over 1,000ftlbs of energy while the 6ARC is slightly over 1,100ftlbs. At the ranges one would use either cartridge for hunting, the game animals wouldn't be able to tell the difference. If you don't own either cartridge, I could see choosing the 6ARC over the 6.5G, but if you already own the 6.5G I don't see the justification for switching, not for hunting anyway. Not a lot of people compete in PRC and even there, it's marginal. I see the 6ARC as Hornady giving the middle finger to Bill Alexander, yes, it's marginally better, but is that a reason for them to stop/slow production of the 6.5G SST ammo?
I spoke to one of my employees that shoots rifle matchs with his 6BR bolt gun and he says the 6ARC is ridiculously close to that cartridge. I told him I'm going to build a 6ARC in a gas-gun, and he usually gives push back when I say I want to build a gun, all he said was do it! My range partner that reloads and geeks out on balistics is going to build a gas-gun in a 6ARC too. Probably an SBR; he says balistic charts suggest the cartridge lends itself well to an SBR build that can reach out to long range territory, based on everything I have heard I think this round will gain popularity!
I have built 2 AR15 rifles in 6mm ARC this year, a 18" and a 12" barreled SBR. Run both suppressed. Both shoot amazingly well with factory 105 Hornady BTHP and 108 Hornady ELD-M bullets. Both shoot MOA at 100, which is not surprising in the 18" rifle but was in the 12". The 12" SBR has qucikly become my favorite 'do everything' rifle in my safe. Short, compact, lightweight, low recoil, accurate, hard hitting, easy to handle, and great for hunting, training, plinking, truck gun, home / self defense. Its a winner for me. Will be testing it on wild pigs here very soon.
The 6 ARC in a 16" barreled AR has been my 1000yrd steel ringer since 2020. I absolutely love it!!! Edit: I have recently switched to a 20" Proof barrel. I'm getting 2650fps give or take with the Hornady 105s and 108s. I only have 40rnds through it at the moment. Once the barrel speeds up and with hand loads, 2700+ should be achievable. We will see where the barrel wants to be at though.
the fact they made a intermediate cartridge that over takes and beats the 243 win when passing 200 yard mark; that also fits in an ar-15 is truly amazing.
6mm arc does not overtake 243. Shooting the same bullet, the 243 wins all the way to impact. And if you want to argue about twists and bullet weights, the 6mm creed is waiting in the wings.
@@madmod thats like saying the 308 does the same job as the 300 win mag. It doesn't really. It's a slower cartridge that is useful in the limitations of a 2.260" COAL the AR15 has.
Not even close. The 243 is going to be the hardest cartridge to unseat within its own class. The 6 creed is the only one with a chance if factory ammo price and availability matches 243 and can be push 115+ grain at 243 speeds. If the 6 creed cant do all that inside a short action. It's going to fade out as a hunting cartridge because it's advantages are nullified for killing animals
@@patrickrodriguez320 if you hand load sure. but if your buying common box ammo at 250 yard the 6mm arc holds its velocity and energy better . from all the ballistic calculators a 243 with a 100 gr projectile at 200 yards - 300 yards it goes from 1330 to 1090 fps. a 6mm arc from those same distances will be 1278 to 1127 fps. so around 250 yards a 6mm arc starts to out perform a 243. now if your hand loading 243 with hot loads and back seating 115 gr projectiles sure, but if you buying 95% of your bullets, 6mm arc does over take 243 because at 250 yards.
I have been running a 6ARC based off a howa mini action for about 9 months now and it is such a great cartridge. Depending on twist you can run the 58gr v-max for varmint control, 90gr Sierra game changers for prs or hunting at longer ranges, up to about a 107/108gr for long distance steel shooting. I’m about to have another one made out of my cz 527. No one seems to be talking about how well this cartridge can perform over a huge range of applications! Great video guys
Very happy with my 6ARC gasser. I built it up as a light weight hog/deer gun - Aero Precision upper and lower, AP bolt, Odin Works 18" barrel, etc. 5 round groups at 0.75 MOA (best round under 0.4") using Hornady factory 105gr Black ammo. Harvested a deer using 103gr ELD-X. Quite happy with the performance so far!!
Careful with those ELD-x. At least in .308 cal they are a pretty poorly constructed bullet. Seen jacket separation in .30-06, and had to shoot a deer twice with a .308 as the first shot hit the shoulder and shattered. Second one performed as it should, but I've seen enough from Hornady's hunting bullets. The old Nosler Partitions & Accubonds, as well as the Federal TBT's are great alternatives, and the Federal's are fairly cheap.
@@bmstylee The Valkyrie is another cartridge that suffered a rush to market. Too many manufacturers just popped out barrels using their existing 1in 7 twist 556 barrels which is not ideal. I waited until I could get a 1 in 6.5 twist barrel from Bison Armory. Even the Federal ball ammo shoots sub moa for me. Similar to Remington screwing up the twist rate and chamber dimensions for the 6.8 SPC. Gotta match the proper twist rate to the intended bullets. Far to often that gets screwed up.
Built my own 6 ARC Early last year, managed 4 Boxes of ammo before it dried up. I reload so it was time for Research, Got 6.5 Grendel brass and Sized and Trimed it to 6 ARC.Then bought 220 Russian and had to size it to 6.5 Grendel then to 6 ARC! Shoots well Accurate and and easy to shoot. I LIKE IT! 220 Russian brass is $$$$$
Currently putting together a 6 arc for my daughter for prs. She currently uses a 6 creed and convinced me that 6 arc in a gas gun was the way to go. This is the first cartridge that I have brass, bullets, powder all before the rifle shows us. We will be shooting the 108 hornady or the berger.
Built my own 6mm ARC AR-15 recently. Love it. 0.5 MOA at 100 yards with 108gr ELD Match. Need to stretch out to longer ranges when I get back to the USA. The gun hates the 105 gr BTHP round as it gets stuck everytime during cycling due to the flat nose profile. I plan to use it for coyote, antelope, and maybe deer.
When I started considering the 6arc, I started to buy the ammo when I saw it on the shelves. I plan on trying it in prs. Factory ammo offerings are cheaper than 6.5 cm, and isn’t suppose to be a barrel burner. I have picked up a set of dies and 6mm projectiles. So I am sold on the cartridge.
15:55 Ryan is on point. I was thinking about running the 6ARC cartridge in PRS competition, however I intended on loading these hot, and with a 0.447” bolt face diameter doesn’t leave much material on the bolt to support the case head. The problem with the 6ARC is not the cartridge but in the bolt, and can’t sustain pushing 115gr DTACs at 3000 FPS safely. I eventually went 6 creed instead.
I can't help but think the 6mm arc, in a hybrid steel bases case (see the Sig 277 fury) in an intermediate sized rifle but with it built with that case head in mind, so no bolt problems. Slightly higher pressure (safely) means more burn in a shorter barrel, and you could get a 90 gr to 3000 fps and its possible you'd get a viable "do it all" tactical round that can put up stellar numbers in a handy rifle. The army has actively been testing these fancy new 6.8 rounds for the NGSW program, but reportedly the weight of the rifles and prodigious recoil might make a recalibrated return to intermediate make sense. But unless that is truly recalibtated, the bolts will be a problem.
I have and still do personally run the 6 ARC in a bolt gun in PRS as well as Competition Dynamics team matches. It's capable of pushing a 105gr Berger Hybrid at 2950 FPS with some room to hit over 3K.
@@EagleEyeShooting I agree 6ARC would make for an awesome PRS setup especially in a bolt gun platform as it makes sense as the bolt face diameter is no longer an issue as a larger bolt can be designed to better support the case head. However on a standard AR bolt with a 0.447” bolt face, it’s a paper thin wall to support the case head. Peak stresses originating from the inside corner are likely to propagate a crack. I think hornady is aware of this and lists their load data only to 2550 FPS for 103-105gr loadings for gas at 52,000psi, and 2850 FPS for 110gr for bolts at 62,000 psi.
I have a Q minifix in 300 blackout. This cartridge looks like it would be absolutely perfect for it and I wish Q would create barrels for it. Sig Cross too.
I have a Sig Cross and I’m frustrated about the lack if support. It’s built for modularity with the interchangeable bolt heads and easy barrel swapping. Still only 6.5 and 308 and no bolt heads in different sizes. 6 ARC is a .445 size instead of .473 standard. Prefit barrel makers are making barrels but without a bolt face it’s not possible and it burns my hide when a company refuses to unlock the potential of their stuff.
When the Grendel first came out I ordered an upper from Alexander Arms. Had to wait a year to get it so that gave me time to assemble a lower receiver to go with it. Love it, getting sub moa with factory ammo. Reloading it now with Hornady and PPU brass. 6ARC is peaking my interest so I’m waiting for more info before I jump on the bandwagon. Cool thing is it uses the same bcg as the Grendel.
Absolutely love the idea of it. Friend has one in a nice AR15. Shoots sub MOA with factory ammo. It shoots excellently suppressed. Equal to or less recoil than .223. Eagle Eye TH-cam channel has been shooting it for a while out of bolt guns. Does really well for him as well.
Anecdote: My friend and I were trying to ring a couple plates at 800 and 1,000 yards with our 6.5 creeds. Could get on the 800 plate but for the life of us, could not get that other plate. The wind dances like crazy out at this particular farm. My buddy had just finished building his ARC and we got her sighted in that day. With the what ammo he had left he decided to walk it out there for spits and giggles. To my amazement, he thwacked that 1,000 yard plate over and over. I can't remember the windage but it was almost nothing. I had the last few rounds he had and proceeded to thwack that thing over and over. Zero recoil. None. I was giggling like a school girl. I think those were the 108 eldx. I just barely got mine.
Yeah I will stay with 6.5 grendel that has steel case ammo available for relatively cheap and high end hunting and long range ammo loaded by the factory. Just makes more sense
Yes and with federal gold metal berger u get very similar wind drift and drop at range. 6arc and 6.5grendel are almost identical at long range with match ammo. But grendel has better bullet options. And better terminal performance on target.
@@spread4me75 6.5grendel is better in every conceivable way. If u want great performance cheap 14$ wolf on. ammo seek buy 6.5grendel. If u want 40$ a box ammo go 6arc. If u hunt go 6.5grendel. If u are only a target shooter go 6arc. If u want better bullet options 90grn-140grn go grendel. If u aren't 90grn-108 go arc. I like the bigger bullets and terminal performance of 6.5grendel. But I also own 6arc. It's good but if I could only have 1. Go grendel. Hornady kinda over hyped 6arc in my opinion. Match 6.5grendel has very similar performance. Like the federal gold medal berger 130grn at 2550fps goes transonic at 1250yds. With very similar drop and wind drift as 108grn atip 6arc. For any range 6arc does better I would have just went up to 6.5creedmoor.
I used a 6 ARC gas gun with a 20” barrel and factory 105 grain Hornady black ammo to take a nice buck this year. Shot as just past 150 yards, hit twice for insurance. He ran about 80 yards. Both jackets were caught in the offside hide but the lead cores exited the deer. About nickel-sized expansion.
Had quite a lot of success with this guy. My bad loads are 1 minute and it eats everything from 65-108gr equally well. Got a pronghorn in 2020 at 260 with 100gr interlocks after one range trip for load development and would have felt comfortable out to 500. Bullet blossomed beautifully and my loads have since improved. My 9 (now 11) year old son can shoot it easily and accurately too. The thing just shoots. My dad liked it so much he bought one like the week after our hunt. Sanders armory barrel and upper.
Definitely a cool cartridge and just finished building out a 20 inch AR15 in it. I'm a huge fan of the 6.5 Grendel I have 2 AR15s and a bolt gun but the 6mm ARC is the new champion of the small efficient long range cartridges. I would love a bolt gun in it as well with maybe a 16" Proof carbon fiber wrapped barrel, carbon fiber stock and a titanium suppressor that would be pretty sick... Great video as always keepem coming guys!!!
I wend from flirting to 'take'er home to momma' really quick with this one. I built my first rifle for it five minutes after parts were available and loaded up some 107 SMKs on a 'guess' load...I was immediately impressed after my first few groups and velocity tests. Testing it out to 1200 yards in my 18" SPR absolutely solidified it as my go-to cartridge for precision gas DMR type of stuff, and dropping my first buck with it this year with a 108 grain Berger Elite Hunter out of a 16" barrel pushed into a primary all-around-won't-do-without cartridge; for both gas-guns and bolt guns. In a gas-gun it works really well with moderate loads, 18" barrels and the 107 SMKs or similar projectiles. My boys will definitely both be getting one of these for their first deer rifle/carbine: they already love shooting mine! Hornady nailed it with this one. It is exactly what I was wondering, "why didn't they do this in 6mm?" when Federal announced the 224Valkyrie. The 6ARC actually makes good on the promise that a lot of other cartridges have made in the DMR over the years. Now if only some primo ammunition manufacturers would get on the wagon.........*ahem Lapua, *achew Black Hills...pardon me, had something in my throat.
In my possession are the last three Left Hand Mini Mauser actions ever sold. I had not had a 6mm for several years and have missed them. The 6mm ARC was a great fit. Tighter rifling twist and set in a beautiful piece of Myrtle wood, three Bullet weights in the SAME 5/8" group. Dinged a Fox in the pasture at 340yds. Dandy, efficient cartridge hitting above its weight class.
My 6 ARC Ballistic Advantage 20” DMR barrel arrived on Christmas Eve. I started this project last spring by buying two boxes of 6 ARC ammo. I’m looking forward to test driving this caliber after getting hooked on the 224 Valkyrie. Thousand yard milk jugs are easy peezy with my Uintah Precision Valkyrie. These two calibers deserve serious consideration by our armed forces. The 6 ARC would be sweet and lethal in a SAW!
We're not going to see the Grendel or the 6ARC adopted for use by the military in the SAW because the cartridge doesn't interact well with the clips that make up the belts. They went through this with the Grendel, rejected it for that reason and the 6ARC uses the same case.
I recently bought a Ruger American Rifle, Ranch, in 6mmARC on my LGS/Gunsmith' recommendation. I'm older (76), small-framed (5'5") and I love to hunt. So, I shortened the stock, got a nice vortex scope (Diamondback 4-16), and just today put a can on it (A-10, 7.62). Hope to take it to the range Thur. or Fri.
Built an 18" gasser a few months ago. Aero M4E1 lower, PRS Gen3 stock, JP Silent Captured Buffer spring assembly, Triggertech Diamond AR w/anti-walk pins, Ballistic Advantage complete upper, 18", BA matching bolt & CH, VG6 Epsilon, ergo tac grip w/palm shelf, Warne Skyline 20MOA 34mm cantilever mount, Vortex Razor HD Gen2 4.5-27x56 EBR-7C. I bought the upper during their Black Friday sale for $364.50 :P Haven't ran anything but factory Hornady Match 108g ELD-M and it's been nothing but bugholes. Speeds are ~2590-2600. Haven't done any load development, but will be soon. Got AA2520, CFE223, Leverevolution, Staball6.5, and a few others to try, but those look the most promising from what I've been seeing. My purpose for the build? Nothing in particular, maybe some gas-gun division PRS, hunting, and fun. I see this cartridge only growing to be wildly popular.
Interesting.....great discussion on a cartridge that I like on paper. My first center-fire was Rem 600 in .243 16 inch barrel. The best loved rifle of my Grandfather....a WI deer hunter. Me, I turned to 6.5 Swede out of milsurps. Just a civilian hobbiest.... but find the subject of great interest.
The 6arc is very interesting for a small bore caliber. I'm just as interested in the 338 Federal for large bore. Any chance we can have a chat about the 338 Federal?
i have a 6 arc gas gun with a 22” bbl, built it myself and i love it. i finished it in November 2020. i’m still playing with did loads ( hunting ) i also have a 6.5 Grendle for the, bolt and gas gun. finished the gas gun first and then converted 700sps to 6.5 from a 223.in 2015. a the bolt made , by the same company i purchased the chamber reamer, out of Oregon.
I love 6.5Grendel. 6mm ARC is my new "side chick". She's even better. Howa mini action, supressed in the woods is the best for my region. Coyote, whitetail, hogs, it just does the job so well out to and past 300yrds. 103 grain Bergers, just a gorgeous little fat bottom girl.
Everything IS good... As long as it's used within it's practical constraints. It's a pure upgrade over 5.56 with only one downside: 5 less rounds per magazine, it reaches farther, hits harder, has basically the same recoil, and has a flatter trajectory. (Notwithstanding things like ammo cost) As far as performance goes there's no real comparison, it IS just better than what it was designed to replace.
The 6 ARC is about 300 fps hotter than the AR and Bolt Action I have in 6x45 and the 6x45 is one of my all time favorite chamberings. Its accounted for a lot of Hogs, Coyotes, quiet a few deer and a couple of pronghorns. The older I get the more I appreciate the more efficient calibers in lighter weight guns. If I didnt already have a lot invested in the 6x45, I would jump on the 6 ARC.
Before the building a grendel I really contemplated buying one of the wildcat 6mm ar cartridge barrels. I love the grendel I have but I think the arc might be the superior cartridge for its size and velocity possible. However the grendel has proved itself with practical hunting ranges and the 120 class bullets are magic on whitetails.
@@borkwoof696 I keep seeing Wolf steel case for sale everywhere online and in local big stores. It’s the most affordable rifle ammo on the shelf. On top of that, there are over 94 factory loads for Grendel including Federal Gold Medal Match, all the Hornady offerings, Federal’s 4 loads, Remington, PPU, etc. I like them both and 6mm AR has been a great light-recoiling target and tote-killer since the Grendel was introduced. A lot of people immediately ordered Grendel brass and went with the 6mm option as soon as Lapua started making brass.
This cartridge has been around for all most as long as the Grendel. As awesome as the guys at Hornady are, this is nearly indistinguishable from the 6mmAR or the Turbo 40 or the 6mmRat. They didn't come up with this whole cloth, because high power competitors have been shooting this for about 15 years.
I would love a 6arc conversation kit for the MCX that’s where my desire lies for this round. I love the easy caliber exchange and it would be great to hunt with as well
I'm getting an AR-15 upper in 6mm ARC. It's gonna be long, 22", and I'm gonna have fun shooting 400 to 800 yards with it, experimenting on my reloading bench, trying different weight/type bullets.
Just recently started looking into the 6mm ARC to build and really think it’s what I’m gonna settle on seems like a lot of great things for a small cartridge
I built a 20" gas gun in 6ARC that I use for pigs. Struggled for a long time finding a load that worked well, but once I found it. man it was life changing
I had been gathering information for making 6.5 Grendel Mk12 when the 6ARC dropped and was instantly a wrench in the plans. Guess I'll have to have both.
Been huge into 6.5 Grendel forever; 6mmARC is just as good in it's own way. I like to say the 6.5 Grendel is a hunting cartridge with target capability and the 6mmARC is a target cartridge with hunting capability. Just finished a 6mmARC 12" AR15 SBR that's gonna be cool....
I love mine. fantastic, Uintah precision bolt action AR-15, with 26" barrel, 3 big whitetails so far, not one took another step. The 6 ARC is what Hornady says, " deadly, accurate, dependable." I like 108 ELD match ammo for < 500 meters hunting. But it's still supersonic at 1200 meters, busting tomatoes at 1000 meters is where I am heading. Best groups with 105 grain Hornady black ammo, but dead is dead, .25 (105 gr,) or .45 (108 gr.) groups respectively at 100 meters. Already developing reloads, I am good on 108 gr. and 105 gr. still working up 103 gr. I named her ( my rifle ) "Dracarys", that means " Dragon fire " in High Valyrian. lol
The 1000 yard world record group is 2.680”, which is about the size of a tomato. It was shot by Charles Greer with a custom 17+ lb 300 WSM in perfect conditions. I doubt you and “Dracarys” will be hitting many tomatoes.
@@SavageTactical popping a tomatoe at 1000 vs shooting 5 rd groups is different ball parks but why kill a mans dream? Hit a grape at 1000 id say. Best luck LCS
I built a gas 6 ARC when the cartridge was first introduced, was a little worried it would not take off, then, went to the range. AWESOME! Give this a go! You will not regret it.
I've ran the arc pretty much since it's came out. In a ar15. I've only bought factory ammo to pull the bullets and use the case for my 70gr bullets. It's a very accurate fast cartridge. I use many for coyotes. I would never own it in a bolt action. I feel there are far better cartridges for bolt guns. But to get almost 243 velocities out of a ar15 is accurate. Running a 70gr at 3200-3300 fps. My 6mm choice in bolt gun is 6 creed
I have a 6ARC bolt gun. Bighorn TL3 action, 26.5" Douglas XX barrel, TriggerTech Diamond, in a MDT ESS chassis. Built by Desert Precision Gunworks. Does 5 rounds sub .5 moa groups all day long. Kenny is the 6ARC builder of choice. He also is developing a 6ARC gas gun with a custom chamber reamer with a shorter freebore than SAMII spec's that is showing promise with under moa results in a AR platform. He has a channel here on youtube under Eagle Eye Shooting
I've been shooting 6ARC gas gun for little over year now . Every time I shoot it blows me away . It performs very well out of shorter barrels . My 2 favorite barrel lengths are 12.5" and 16" . In 12.5" config you are getting LW Recce style Rig . Its capable of banging steel at 600+ yards . 16" I have setup in my SPR / DMR , and Medium game hunting Rig . I did not buy the 6ARC for shooting targets at 1000 yards . I bought it to be more LW compared to my AR10 . My 12.5 with Optic and Can is 4 pounds lighter than my AR10 308 and 16" is 3 Pounds lighter .
Nice, I have been shooting arc for a while now too. I'm opposite I have a 12.5" Grendel that I have taken To 750... I built the arc as a long range gun...so I went with a heavy 16" proof.....shot a 2 inch 3 shot cluster at 1k with factory ammo....was very happy lol
@@prone_wolf8871 That's awesome . I've taken my 16" to 880 yards . I was able to hit 10"×16" steel target 5x in a row . I've been super happy with my 12.5 and 16" 6ARC. They definitely fill a role I was missing . Once I get better at shooting past 500 yards I'll built 22" 6ARC . Cobolt KINETICS BAMF 22" 6ARC would be my dream Upper. 2700+ FPS and still maintaining SUB MOA out to 1000 yards is freaking insane .
Ryan, have you checked out the mini fix or elf owl bolt action pistols/sbr? Great little backpack rifle. I know the elf owl has an 6mm, idk about the mini fix though
@Vortex Nation Podcast. Take a look @ the 6mm PPC . Been around since the 70's or 80's . It is the original 6 ARC but was for benchrest and they used lightweight 65 & 70 grn bullets. I've used 6 ppc brass to fireform into 6 ARC brass .
Bought a SPR barrel the day it was released back in June 2020 and built a Mk12. Love the dang little cartridge. One thing that concerns me for loading it is the weak point in the AR platform is the bolt. So I fear some will load develop with charges up to the point where they might see signs of pressure on the brass and come back down a little like a lot do with other cartridges, but may still be far exceeding a safe pressure for the bolt with how little material is left between the large bolt face and the lugs in the chamber.
The viability of this round as an all-around 5.56 replacement for service weapons should be tested. This seems like it actually could significantly increase the range and effectiveness of the AR without sacrificing recoil control and without adding much ammunition weight
NO way impossible, the round is extremely inferior as in an AR platform! What has happened to everyones brains! The rounds has tons of issues poor performer in a short barrel, feed and eject isssues. The design cannot handle high pressures in an AR paltform and the bolt head could blow up. This is extreme UNSAFE HYPE!!
"Ryan says he is flirting with it, but right now he is dealing with the whole thing where its like, 'Well, ya, its laugh is funny.'" "You know that doesn't bother me, Jim." 😂😂😂😂
I tried to build a 6 ARC AR-15. I usually buy the dies and reloading components before I even have the gun. I like to make sure I can keep it running. I have never once seen a factory cartridge since it came out. Brass the key missing part is never in stock. I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am practical and want to have the ability to get the stuff I need. So far I have shelved the 6 ARC till more manufacturers make cases or Hornady steps up production.
Been thinking about an upper for the AR in 6mm ARC or 6.5 Grendel or 6.8SPC strictly for hunting. Which one to choose. Which one gives the best performance out of a 16'' or even shorter barrel. Also would love to here a talk on the 338-06. Thinking of building one off of a A303 action, so it can hold 5 rounds. Just love those actions. Want this for Nilgi medicine and also someday a trip to Alaska for bear and Moose.
Generally, bigger bullet diameter lends to better (relative) performance in shorter barrels. See their cartridge talk about 300 blackout. 6.8 will probably have the most short range punch out of the 3. My 18" 6.8 yields 1800ish f/lbs with 130gr bullet loads.
I think the Grendel does very well from shorter barrels. I am actually considering building a 12.5 in pistol AR in Grendel. The ARC does really seem to be reliant on velocity still, while the Grendel i consider more like a modern 30-30 where it doesn't rely on initial velocity numbers. Grendel specific bullets are built to expand to lower velocities, and their are plenty of bullets now specifically designed for use in Grendels. I don't think ARC will probably ever see bullets built specifically for it, because it's base velocity is high enough to just use normal bullets. if you are looking for bullets built specifically for the grendel, there is the 123 hornady SST, cavityback bullets 118, Lehigh defense 110, and while not specifically made for it the 129 Nosler ABLR is PERFECT, among a bunch of others now as well. My current thoughts would be to use a 12.5 barrel with the 129 grain Nosler ABLR. That gives you an initial velocity of around 2200-2250 and very good retained velocity and a good expansion window. You keep 1000 pounds of energy out to 250 yards and the stated minimum velocity for expansion takes you all the way to 750 yards. You stay supersonic to just around 1000 yards, depending on elevation, etc.
Do I need another cartridge to reload for? No. But but do I want a 6 ARC, Yes. As Ryan said, its such a cute and capable little caliber it's hard to resist.
Yet another fantastic talk. I have great interest in it and great respect for RM’s take on the topic. I love TTSX bullets for hunting in a .243 or otherwise. If RM will divulge his progress on his 6mmARC project, I will likely follow suit. Blessings for 2022 for all at Vortex.
It's funny how things have gone full circle. The military swore by the venerable 30-06 and it was/is a fantastic cartridge. Then the 7.62X51, another great one. Fast forward to Vietnam and the 5.56, perfect for the Armalite platform, and it's punched above it's weight for a long time. The ARC is perhaps the best of both worlds, compact, able to fit in the beloved AR-15 platform, yet gives you downrange ballistics that out perform the .308. The ability to get 90% of the power of a .243 in a AR-15 platform is a game changer. When ammo becomes more widely available it's going to be very popular.
Ryan mentioned the bolt face being an issue with the 220 Russian offspring. Such as 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendell and now 6 ARC. I have a Howa Mini Action in 7.62x39 and love it!!! I've been thinking about getting one in 6.5 Grendell as well. I prefer bolt guns to, although I have several ARs. I don't know if they have came out with 6 ARC yet but if it is gaining in popularity like you say they Probably will. The Weatherby Vanguard is a Howa.
I have two Aero Precision builds one chambered in 20’ in Faxon barrel that is 6 mm ARC and the other chambered in an 18’ Faxon barrel in 6.5 Grendel. Still working out the rough edges with optics but normally they are both hella accurate with the 6MM ARC definitely having the edge in BC as well as muzzle velocity.
Have a year on my 20” 6ARC. AR platform. It is really great. I agree the dasher in a bolt gun. It seems dasher was what Hornady was after for the AR platform. 6AR was in existence as a wildcat for many years. Hornady just brought it to SAAMI and made it awesome.
Great introductory info here. My next AR build will be in 6ARC with a 12” barrel which will give me a super capable CQB gun that’ll still de deadly out to 1000 yards. See Garland Thumb for a great live fire review of this awesome cartridge. Keep up the great work guys!
I built a 6mm ARC and really love the cartridge. I'm getting great results on hogs and coyote. Biggest downside is NO BRASS support from Hornady for those of us who hand load. My brass order has been backordered for 1 1/2 years now.
Pretty sure 6mm ARC suffers from the same issues as the 6.5 Grendel which are extractors and bolt faces breaking. Reliability issues are what causes these rounds to not receive greater adoption.
There is a thought that the uneven bolt thrust because of the absence of a bolt lug on the extractor side is a contributing factor to bolt lug cracking due to uneven loading. There is one manufacturer who eliminates the odd bolt lug to equalize bolt lug stress. Logically, increasing the size of the bolt lugs and using an even number of them should resolve the problem (matching the barrel extension to the new bolt pattern should reduce, if not eliminate, the problem. The problem is that this solution would be proprietary unless the manufacturer made it an open source specification. The alternative, of course, is every manufacturer coming up with their own version. Either way, I think it worth the effort.
I love my 6 ARC. Was a huge .308 fan but since I got my ARC up and running back in October there's no looking back. I have a Aero Precision 24" heavy barrel upper with a silencer co ambi bolt release lower and it's a absolute hammer. I put it together specifically for PRS and did get to run it for the last match of the season last year. Everyone on my squad was highly impressed with it as was I. (I only had the rifle together for 42 hours when we went hot that saturday morning. No dry fire time whatsoever and had 66 rounds on it. lol) Can't wait to get this PRS season kicked off and am already strongly considering having a bolt gun built in 6 ARC. Everyone says build a dasher, nope, I believe in this cartridge. (And from a logistics aspect, I'm already set up for ARC.)
Best Christmas present of the year was to hear the silky tones of Ryan Muckenhirn talk about the ARC...
Listen to it again as you go to sleep for sweet dreams of the 6 ARC 😂😂
Lol
I as well will be loading 80gr ttsx Barnes in my 6arc bolt action for coyotes! You guys didn’t really get too far in depth about the cartridge tho, why Hornady introduced it, why kind of bc, ect.
I'm waiting for Ryan to talk about how "endearing" the beautiful 7 Rem mag!
@@alexzamora6700 what bolt action are you running?
I have and still do personally run the 6 ARC in a bolt gun in PRS as well as Competition Dynamics team matches. I have documented 6,000 rounds and counting down pipe of a barrel and still shoots near 1/2 MOA. It's capable of pushing a 105gr Berger Hybrid at 2950 FPS with some room to hit over 3K. A phenomenal cartridge that I'm happy to see standardized as I played with the Wildcat variants in the past
So glad to hear about the barrel life! I'm wanting to build some 6 Arc's in gas and bolt guns
If 6 ARC interests you, this is the guy to listen to.
Give his channel a browse
Love your videos man. You've really cemented my interest in 6arc. I'll probably pick up NRL/PRS this year with a 6arc gas gun.
By any chance could a gunsmith rework the action on my winchester 70 243wssm to feed 6arc?
Love the cartridge.
congratulations on your first deer!
First deer with the gun not first deer ever. Details mater
Personally I went with the 6.5 Grendel and I love it . Good little round . Have it in a Howa mini action 1500 shoots great good on deer
Built a Grendel like Ryan described and I absolutely love it!!
I'm building a 6mm ARC now, but it has big shoes to fill when it comes to my Grendel. I'm handloading 120 grain gold dots and my hogs and deer pay with their life at range. Being able to resize 7.62 x 39 brass to use in the Grendel is a bonus
6arc is much better than the grendle
@@spread4me75 Why is it so much better
@@countduku9470 your right its not sooo much better, I just prefer its performance characteristics, it's faster flatter shooting with better range and still decent kinetic energy
@@countduku9470 compare the grendle vs arc to the 308, one outperformes the 308 one does not, in my opinion
And 100 years from now you can still call it the ARC, Antique Rifle Cartridge…😂
Yeah, I think that's what the ARC actually came from, with a few tweaks for proprietary-ness added by the folks at Hornady
Where can I get that?
effective 1000' in 16"AR is a game changer. Grain? Lot of muzzle flash?
Liar. It wasn't even out yet. Nice try, weak flex. On top of that you don't shoot 100yds with 16" guns. Everybody knows that.
@wonderingweirdo7476 I dunno man. I've done it plenty of times lol
@@coltonwinkel510 maybe.
I built a 12” 6 ARC for my 8 yr old to hunt with this year and he took a doe and a buck with it.
About how far have you reached out with the 12"?
What’s it getting 2000 fps??
the fact they made a intermediate cartridge that over takes and beats the 243 win when passing 200 yard mark; that also fits in an ar-15 is truly amazing.
6mm arc does not overtake 243. Shooting the same bullet, the 243 wins all the way to impact. And if you want to argue about twists and bullet weights, the 6mm creed is waiting in the wings.
@@tartredarrow The .243 may have a higher ceiling but the 6 arc does the same job.
Always enjoy these 10 (ish) minute cartridge talks. Can I request ones for the 30 Nosler, for large game past 500 yards, and the 300 HAM'R for hogs.
I would second the .300 HAM'R discussion.
at nearly 61, I have waited all these years to invest in any of the preceding chamberings for the AR15 until now. 6mm ARC is the one
I'd sure like to build me a 6mm arc to go with my grendel but waiting to see ammo or reloading components become more available
That’s (currently) the big drawback for this cartridge. Otherwise, everybody would be running it.
The old Nosler Partitions & Accubonds, as well as the Federal TBT's are great alternatives, and the Federal's are fairly cheap.
did the 108 ELD bullets not shoot as well or was it just the wrong type of bullet for what you needed it to do?
@@Pew_Professional I wasn't able to get ahold of any 108gr until last week. Haven't been able to get out to group them yet.
What type of buffer and buffer spring are you using?
Howa mini action is a a wonderful little bolt gun in 6.5 grendel..id love to see them make a 6mm arc and a 224 valkyrie in that package..
224 Valkyrie? People still shoot that failed cartridge?
I believe they do, just get the action, then build around it. The Grendel and the ARC share the same bolt face.
Howa lists 6arc as available in their “mini” action..
I LIKE IT! 220 Russian brass is $$$$$
This is the only ar "improvement" cartridge I see that is not only viable but seems like a great idea
The 6 ARC is on my short list. But, the lack of reloading components makes adopting a new caliber a little difficult ATM.
I wouldn't call it a "shortage", more of a "ransom" :P
Particularly primers. 😕 Plenty of bullets, little powder and even fewer primers.

I plan to use it for coyote, antelope, and maybe deer.
what length barrel are you running and what magazines were giving you a hard time with feeding?
I love my ARC. Took my Montana pronghorn and big bodied muley with it this year. Performed brilliantly and dropped both.
Super cool!
Rebarreled my Mk12 mod1 in 6arc. Fell in love with this cartridge. Hoping SHOT brings a couple bolt offerings.
That’s sounds like a wicked set up.
I can not help but think this would be an excellent candidate for the Sig Cross platform.
Does really well for him as well.
what ammo is your friend running and what length barrel? Im currently putting a build together for one of my friends and would like your feedback.
@@Pew_Professional 18” barrel. 108grain Hornady.

243 win or 6mm need more will smoke the 6 arc with the extra velocity, but I would love to play with the 6 arc for a light walking around rifle
Yeah I will stay with 6.5 grendel that has steel case ammo available for relatively cheap and high end hunting and long range ammo loaded by the factory. Just makes more sense
Yup me too. I think to enjoy 6 Arc, one has to enjoy reloading and have the time to do so. Steel case ftw
Yes and with federal gold metal berger u get very similar wind drift and drop at range. 6arc and 6.5grendel are almost identical at long range with match ammo. But grendel has better bullet options. And better terminal performance on target.
6.5 grendle sux compared to 6arc especially in the ar platform
@@spread4me75 great argument.
This podcast has been my staple. Ryan’s got me hooked on weird bolt guns now.
Built one this year, great cartridge. Use it for hunting and already have 2 hogs and a deer under it. Surprisingly hard hitting.
Looking forward to hearing how that BA barrel works for you!
It'd be cool to see your guy's take on .257 Weatherby!
We'll see what we can do ;)
@@VortexNation please do!!
257 is the bomb! Kills deer like lightning bolts! I love the 257 weatherby
Ron Spomer just did a good video on the .338 Federal over on his site.
i have a 6 arc gas gun with a 22” bbl, built it myself and i love it. i finished it in November 2020. i’m still playing with did loads ( hunting )
i also have a 6.5 Grendle for the, bolt and gas gun. finished the gas gun first and then converted 700sps to 6.5 from a 223.in 2015.
a the bolt made , by the same company i purchased the chamber reamer, out of Oregon.
Thanks Tyler Mason for your peristence. I've been shooting it since it came out and I love hearing about it
I have been looking at an UPR15 from Uintah Precision in 6 ARC. It is a fullfledged custom bolt action upper that goes on a standard AR-15 lower.
West desert shooter loves them in his channel
@@eggbert191 his channel is where I found out about them. I can't decide between the 6 ARC and the 6.5 grendel.
You guys are like an infomercial. Everything is fantastic! -No matter what.
Everything IS good... As long as it's used within it's practical constraints.
It's a pure upgrade over 5.56 with only one downside: 5 less rounds per magazine, it reaches farther, hits harder, has basically the same recoil, and has a flatter trajectory. (Notwithstanding things like ammo cost)
As far as performance goes there's no real comparison, it IS just better than what it was designed to replace.
Currently putting together an ARC. I've read and watched a lot and everything about it seems super pimpalicious
6x45 is better, much less chonky, still equals 308 in range
Love my 6x45...talk about easy!
The big edge the Grendel had was cheap 100gr practice ammo from Russia. Now that that’s gone I don’t see many reasons to go for the Grendel.
That's what makes it special. It has history.
Most ppl don't know this at all. It's not a new cartridge at all but a great performer nonetheless.
It's a 6mm_PPC . . .
@@HAYAOLEONE Shhhhh! I mean yeah basically and it's not like I reference the ppc for load development at all but let the guy have his fun.
Not the same as PPC or 6 Grendel. Sort of a tweener.
I would love a 6arc conversation kit for the MCX that’s where my desire lies for this round. I love the easy caliber exchange and it would be great to hunt with as well
I'm getting an AR-15 upper in
6mm ARC.
Here we are, 2 years later (really 3+ years), and here I am, still making 6mm ARC cases from 6.5 Grendel cases.
6arc is mucho better than 6.5 grendel
How far have you been able to effectively reach out with the 12"? Very, very curious as I'm considering one.
@@spread4me75 not if you like barrel life and terminal ballistics.
Ready to build a bench bolt action...a LOT easier than the PPC I was going to do. Now to get Peterson or Alpha to kick it up with some great brass.
@@SavageTactical Not every shot , no groups that size at 1000 meters but I bet I bust some.
Thank God I need not concern myself with what you think.
@@SavageTactical popping a tomatoe at 1000 vs shooting 5 rd groups is different ball parks but why kill a mans dream? Hit a grape at 1000 id say. Best luck LCS
Bullshit
Yeah I shot a grape at 1000 yards......ALL LIES
I built a gas 6 ARC when the cartridge was first introduced, was a little worried it would not take off, then, went to the range. AWESOME! Give this a go! You will not regret it.
With all these coming out I'm really hoping you hit the 416 Rem Mag. I'd love to hear more about the African cartridges.
He has a channel here on youtube under
Eagle Eye Shooting
Kenny is the man. That sounds like an amazing rifle. I think he's done more work on the 6arc than anyone else.
I dig this cartridge, but I also like the Valkarie. I'm on the fence, as to if this is enough better for my purposes over the Valkarie...
I love my Grendel But haven't really looked into this 6 arc too much but after this but after this video I might have to check it out a little.
@Vortex Nation Podcast. Take a look @ the 6mm PPC . Been around since the 70's or 80's . It is the original 6 ARC but was for benchrest and they used lightweight 65 & 70 grn bullets. I've used 6 ppc brass to fireform into 6 ARC brass .
have a 6 ARC in a Howa bolt gun love it. mini action light 10 round magazine and recoil like a 22
Deep northern accent:"Super Cute Case" I'm crying tears right now. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
AFTER the 7 Rem Mag we need Ryan to dedicate "10" minutes to a cartridge he mentioned in this podcast.......the beautiful 7.62x39!
The caliber I found most similar to the 6 ARC was the Remington .30 AR. To be honest, the numbers were so similar they were scary.
Love my AR build.
Odin works upper 18” SS barrel.
Shoots 1/2” MOA. NOT a poodle shooter (223)
Way more power and improved distance.
6x45 or the AI version or could do it as well but you wouldn't have the fatter case... There are 6mm wildcats in 6.8 cases as well.
@@leeeng478 6mm arc is bad in a short barrel? One of the things they were hyping on its release was it's 12" barrel performance.
"Ryan says he is flirting with it, but right now he is dealing with the whole thing where its like, 'Well, ya, its laugh is funny.'"
"You know that doesn't bother me, Jim."
😂😂😂😂
Love my two 6.8 SPCs. One for deer/one for yotes
I was building an AR last year and was debating 6mm arc or 350, I chose the 350 because I could find ammo
I've been waiting for this one. Don't tell the wife, but this will likely be my next upper build. Good info, thank you.
Thank you for doing segment on 6 arc. I am almost squeezing the trigger on this Wilson Combat.
Built mine with Odin Works. Couldn't be happier. Hope it gets traction, don't want it to disappear.
Pretty sure 6mm ARC suffers from the same issues as the 6.5 Grendel which are extractors and bolt faces breaking. Reliability issues are what causes these rounds to not receive greater adoption.
No problem so far in my ARC. Very accurate and light recoil
Ryan said that at comfortable hunting distances it checks all of the boxes. At the same distance does it check any boxes that the 243 does not?
Recoil and ability to put in an ar. Otherwise no. 243 is a bit faster and while shoot a bit flatter at any range.
In factory barrels with faster twists it runs the heavier bullets better.
