Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) episode 188: Shrek: Fairy Tale Freakdown. The Nerd just wants to watch Shrek... but he ends up reviewing one of the worst fighting games on the Game Boy Color based on Shrek... until he's eventually captured by some creepy Shrek cultists. I sincerely love the movie parodies you've been creating! They're so well done, clever, and nostalgic! I can't believe that a lot of people don't like this!? The only explanation is that they've never seen the movies you're covering or don't understand the humor. You've come such a long way and I'm proud to be here 14 years after binge watching the original videos in high school. I can absolutely see you're love of horror and filmmaking as well as your love for videogames shine and I love it!

James is a filmmaker at heart, not a game reviewer. Avgn was just something that caught on by accident and he uses it to help yet his foot in the door. This is like a mini movie from him and that's what's enjoyable about it.
Imagine if this was how James decided to tell us he was ending avgn.

The game developer didn't bother to take note that it wasn't an actual wrestling ring in the movie, but somehow dedicated enough to make the executioner's defeat animation referencing The Rock overselling the Stonecold Stunner.

I saw someone complaining that the Nerd looked too bloated while the Wicker Ogre was being burned, but no doubt it's just that the deleted scene of the Nerd being attacked by so many bees that he becomes swollen to double normal width was deemed too shocking by TH-cam censors. 😉 Great ep.; love the horror ones!
P.S. No doubt the Nerd's pun on Farquaad was intended by _Shrek's_ writers, but I never got it until the Nerd pointed it out.

It's just as horrifyingly bad as I remember.
The fact that I owned this will forever be one of my biggest L's.
Let me get this straight: The nerd plays a game where he plays as shrek fighting other characters from the movie. He's then put in a situation where he's actually wearing a shrek costume about to be killed by shrek worshippers wearing costumes for other shrek characters. I thought the logical finish to the episode was the nerd fighting all the others, paralleling the game.
Someone clearly never saw The Wickerman.
They could’ve at least recreated Shrek fighting the knights, complete with Bad Reputation playing in the background

This took me awhile to start watching, because Shrek doesn’t seem like the type of thing AVGN would talk about.
But that’s because Shrek (Yes while an old movie now) came out at around a time when James was too old for that stuff. I always loved watching James videos where he just talks about the stuff he grew up with. They always had a home vibe to them, even though I was born in 2000. So to hear him talking about Shrek, a movie he didn’t grow up with, seemed so jarring to me. But I’m a little excited as I always wanted to see what his opinions on more recent media were, especially Pokémon. I would love to see him talk about Pokemon, even if it’s just about how he saw it, and never played the games themselves.
