    Is it possible to make pink dye for leather, i cant find any white leather dye to mix in with red and i've tried water and isopropyl alcohol as dilution mediums, but all i get is a lighter red. Is there any way to make pink? thank you

    • @EleanaWorkshop
      @EleanaWorkshop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi,
      There isn't an alcohol-based white dye available. You can use Fiebing's Oxblood dye diluted with alcohol. For best results, apply it to natural vegetable-tanned leather, preferably a lighter shade.
      You can find the dye here: amzn.to/3FOrmED

    Is this process any different with alcohol based dyes instead?

    • @EleanaWorkshop
      @EleanaWorkshop  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The process is the same, but you need to be quick with it as alcohol-based dyes dry much faster. For better results, dilute the dye with a little alcohol.

    That was awesome! Thanks so much! I just received a journal from Amazon that has a hideous dye job. It’s beyond disastrous (poor leather: thin & scratched & scuffed that I guess they tried to pass off by doing an added “distressed/vintage” vibe on while I couldn’t have cared less about that part as we raised cattle & i would rather have seen it tbh bc it tells their story & honors their lives imho & I am trying to figure out how to fix it. It honestly smells like motor oil was used on it. It feels like it too. It was hand stamped & badly dyed, but I’m trying to make lemonade out of a lemon if I can. Lol. Tho honestly I should probably just send it back. I quit buying from their third party sellers bc of quality control issues like this one. The goods received never match the lovely pics of the items advertised. Thx for giving me some ideas. I was able to lift off some of the nastiness with a wet paper towel, but I think I need leather cleaner or something else at this point. The dye was either applied very unevenly or it absorbed very unevenly & it’s just an eyesore to look at. The hand stamping they did though is pretty decent except the leather is so thin that the leather has buckled in many places which stain as the journal is for me I don’t care too much about, but I would like it to be pleasant to look at & not feel like motor oil & have this nasty, viscous stuff come off on my hands every time I pick it up. Honestly it might be beyond help or beyond my capabilities & current art supplies lol. I just like handmade items & I know that every artisan has to start somewhere & I feel like maybe if I keep it I’ve helped put food on someone’s table somewhere in the world & I was very careful to leave them constructive criticism about what was wrong & what I liked about the item so they could improve the next ones. Nothing like my diatribe here. Lol. Both reviews are honest, but I try to be helpful & not hurtful. I truly enjoyed ur video. Well done.

    I have some vegan white leather boots and wanted to do a cool marble effect, on them, using my Ranger alcohol inks. Do I need to prep the leather beforehand? Also do you need a finish or leather conditioner? Is it even possible to marble with alcohol ink? Your video is the best I've seen regarding dyeing leather in fun ways. I would be grateful for any advice...

    • @EleanaWorkshop
      @EleanaWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The techniques I am showing work on genuine, natural veg tanned leather. Your boots are already dyed and finished so I can not guarantee that you will have any good result attempting to dye them. I wouldn’t suggest it, but If you don’t wear them anyway you can experiment 😋

    Water-based leather dye and I are not on speaking terms at the moment. Every time I try to dye really good veg tanned leather it gets very hard and brittle when it dries. I have tried using Neatsfoot oil on the leather before dying and then after. Then using Aussie conditioner. Not working for me. Still stiff and cracks when I bend it. We are talking about 3oz Hermann Oak tanned leather. Not much better than that. I have yet to see a technique for bringing back the flexibility of the leather after water-based dying. Never happens with Oil and Pro dyes.

    • @EleanaWorkshop
      @EleanaWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I changed my dyes to fiebings that are alcohol based few months after this video. I had the same issue, but it wasn't much of a problem for me. I used to bent the leather and roll it to my bench when it was completely dry. Fiebing's works better for me!
