    Hello and thank you for watching! I started my channel on July 8 2022 and I am very excited about having a TH-cam channel! In this video I pointed out that I prefer to use water based dyes over oil base dyes for my color blending projects. This only applies to the darker colors. The lighter colors I use oil base dyes although water base dyes will work just fine. Enjoy!

    Definitely a cool technique!!
    I'm brand new to leather craft and the more I find channels such as yours, the more I learn and all the different things you can do with leather.
    I've made simple leather Feather keychains and even trying to learn how to make more 3 Dimensional projects (made a Shark's Tooth for My Nephew who's interested in the Megalodon and He Loved it)
    The finishing of the leather is definitely interesting with all the different techniques.
    I'm slowly getting together enough materials to actually attempt credit card holders as gifts for My Family and finally broke down and bought a stitching pony.
    Anyway, I'm babbling on.
    Thank You for Your Time and Help with learning something new and unique in the leather craft, you certainly make it more interesting!!
    Sincerely, J Q

      Babble away! I totally relate to your enjoyment! :) It sounds like you already have some original ideas. When it comes time to buy some stitching chisels get some nice ones, it will make it a lot easier and much less of a struggle. I have learned so much from youtube, it is a great place to gather technique and knowledge. This was a fantastic comment. It is really about the joy of crafting. Enjoy! Thank you for the kind words. :)

    Really curious how this technique ages over time. I once dyed a bag a light green-blue, very diluted, and 5 years later it's pretty much all brown.

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I still have the bag and so far it has not changed much so far. I do agree that dye does shift color as it ages. I have had to retake images for some items I have on etsy do to the fact that the color changed over time and the images no longer were a good representation of the craft. Thank you for the comment.

    Thanks for the video enjoyed it and the outcome. Seeing how in this video you used the first two dyes as a pro and then switched to the water base. Why did you not use water base on the first two colors? All my dyes are pro but I was wondering if you would recommend using all water base instead? I have to order some and wanted to get your insight.

    • @baronleathercraft
      @baronleathercraft  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the question. I think I used what I had as far as color is concerned but I have noticed a difference in using pro and water based dyes. What I noticed is that the pro dye will have more of an even coat and the water based dyes will not be as even as far as spreading out to one tone. For this reason I like to use the water based dyes for when I am going for a rustic almost like a leather smokers chair. It has the ability to create an old rustic appeal. You can achieve this look with pro dye as well but the contrast of the tone will not be as obvious. If you are looking to create an even tone then go with pro, if you want an uneven tone I use the water base. When it comes down to it both dyes can be used for this effect. I hope this helps. Thank you. :)

      @@baronleathercraft Thanks for the super fast reply. I stumbled upon you through the laser. I have a 10W and I am playing around with using leather I am new to leather though I have had supplies sitting for years. I have found if I am just using a one-color dye that if I dye first then I put a top coat on then laser I do not have any discoloring it wipes off with water easily. But that would not work with your toning in this video. Thanks again i am watching many of your videos.
