A girl I dated for 6 years starting my sophomore year (her freshman year) in high school in 2001 loved this song. It hits the feels when I hear it now. It's a bittersweet feeling for sure.
I've battled depression and anxiety since I was young, my mother was aware of the hard times I've been having with everything and all the panic attacks. She suddenly sent me this. I love her so much.
One of my favorite memories from high school was watching my friend sing this for our class. She was killing it but nervous-smiling the whole time. She passed away a couple years ago out of the blue, and this song will forever bring her back to me. Hug the folks you love.
+Mudpawkendra: You just wrote the best advice on youtube. I'm 68 here in '23. I"ve got my 50th high school reunion in Arizona in 2 mos. I'm helping organize the thing. It's depressing as hell once I began getting in touch with grads for this upcoming gig. So MANY have passed. We only had a grad. class of @275. I'll bet 25 or 30 or more have passed already. I've gotta admit, I always knew life could be fragile, so all my dear guy and gal buds from back then, I've kept in good touch with them throughout the years. It's been nothing short of a blessing. And in this day and age of alll the gadgets one can utilize to keep in touch and reach out if you want to....there's no excuse NOT to. Don't be embarrassed to tell 'em you love 'em......we fellas are damn sure not feminine but have no problem at all with telling each other "you know I love ya, bro" and give a big for-real hug. You'll be glad if you take this advice....II promise you. jbein arizona

The nostalgia is so strong....it hurts. If I close my eyes hearing this song play, it's like a time warp back to July and August of 2000. Better times. Great economy, Pre 9/11, no huge wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc. I miss those days...
So the context/story behind this song, he said way back when his soon to be future wife really wanted married but he couldn't at the time cause his rockstar life. Everytime she'd see friends or someone getting married she'd get frustrated. He said she was driving him nuts, but he looked at her laughing with her friends and thought he absolutely loved her when she smiles. Then the song all came together with that sentence of thought. He's still married to her and is an english teacher.
I was a teenager with severe depression (undiagnosed Biopolar II Disorder) when this song came out. I had multiple episodes and suicide attempts, my mom used to sing this song to me during an episode while gently stroking my hair. I'm much better now, haven't had a severe episode or attempt in over a decade, but this song holds a special place in my heart❤
@@milkjugs4771 the "wrong" lyrics could be the right ones in an alternate universe! I wonder if Daniels knew about the Mandela effect too since this is a really old song

I've got my 50th reunion later this year....I absolutely cannot wait to see everybody. It'll be a shock, because we didn't have a 40th, and I haven't seen so many of my dear buds in 20 years since our 30th......and it'll be a shock to see how many of them have aged. But....a lot of 'em still look damn good and not 68 like we are currently. At any rate....I can't wait! jbeinarizona

This song immediately played in my head when I watched Everything Everywhere All At Once
I keep hearing about everything everywhere what is it
@@zoso1up It is a new movie about a Chinese American woman who can’t seem to finish her taxes and gets dragged into a plot to save the multiverse.
It's the story of a girl who cried a river and drowned the whole world
@@mo0man Her clothes never wear as well the next day, and her hair never falls in quite the same way.
@@ftjm69Also, she never seems to run out of things to say.
When I was a kid I thought the lyrics were..
This is a story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looked so sad in shoulder pads
I absolutely love her
When she smiles
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 mad hilarious! Made my day
@@wambuiwachira2345😂never questioned it, just went along with it lol
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE
Dec 2024....😂 just poped in my head day after Christmas 😂😂❤
It makes me feel VERY OLD, that even some of my friends didn’t recognize this song in Everything Everywhere All at Once
It's awesome how hearing a song can put you back in the same mindset of when you first heard it. As a kid I heard this on the bus nearly every day on my way to middle school with the faint tones of pokemon red being played on my gameboy color.
cool story bro
Who listening to this at the turn of the decade, turn of the year in 2020? Music nostalgia at its finest.
Love it
Me!! Love it. Heard this song at the supermarket and I was singing along to it lol
I had forgotten this song! I've just heard it at the end of a Daria episode, and I totally remembered it. It was an MTV classic.
I was born in April 1990. I clearly remember this playing on the radio..memories!🤓
I was born in July 1990 and same lol! 🙂
Sup, fellow April 1990 mate?

This has always been my favorite song. Thanks for being such a great part of growing up.
This song will always hold a sentimental spot in my heart
There are certain songs that put you in a better mood the moment they start, and this is absolutely one of those songs. It is impossible to be in a bad mood when this song plays.
Bring back the 90's!! Ah those were the days!
this song wasnt in the 90s lol
It came out in 2000 close enough
The dark and gloomy days of the 90s 🤮
This song peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000
Crazy to think there were better songs than this! I remember the era. Never again to be replicated
Great band. 90s and early 2000s best era ever

Damn I broke out in the biggest smile, finding this today. It's been about 20 years, I'd say. Im still a sucker for this vibe, late school night mtv/vh1 vids on loop.

I absolutely love the lyrics of this song
Everyone needs to know history and keep it from repeating itself, please and thank you.
It's almost 2020 and this song brings back so many memories to me from middle school and high school, I love this song so much.
This is the story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looked so sad in photographs
I absolutely love her
When she smiles
Now how many days in a year
She woke up with hope
But she only found tears
And I can be so insincere
Making her promises never for real
As long as she stands there waiting
Wearing the holes in the soles of her shoes
Now how many days disappear
When you look in the mirror
So how do you choose
Your clothes never wear as well the next day
And your hair never falls in quite the same way
You never seem to run out of things to say
[Chorus:]
This is the story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looked so sad in photographs
I absolutely love her
When she smiles
Now how many lovers would stay
Just to put up with this shit day after day
Now how did we wind up this way
Watching our mouths for the words that we say
As long as we stand here waiting
Wearing the clothes or the soles that we choose
Now how do we get there today
When we're walking too far for the price of our shoes
Your clothes never wear as well the next day
And your hair never falls in quite the same way
But you never seem to run out of things to say
[Chorus:]
This is the story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looks so sad and lonely there
I absolutely love her
When she smiles
[Guitar solo]
Well your clothes never wear as well the next day
And your hair never falls in quite the same way
You never seem to run out of things to say
[Chorus:]
This is the story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looks so sad in photographs
I absolutely love her
This is the story of a girl
Whose pretty face she hid from the world
And while she looks so sad and lonely there
I absolutely love her
This is the story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looked so sad in photographs
I absolutely love her
When she smiles
When she smiles!

Great! Thanks!🇲🇽
Early 2000's gotta love it
Man... This is a song I HATE to admit that I LOVE.
desperately missing the 90s at the moment
This song came out in the year 2000

The year 2000 was basically just 1999 continued.
This is 2000 MTV After Hours
Check out my playlist: music(all time chill) The chillest 90's and some early 2000's songs. Hope you enjoy. :)
"This is the story of a---girl" best part. Also, this whole CD was awesome.
Abso'fuckin'lutely!
Yessss!
You would love the Melvins then. They are the Kings of untimely pauses for dramatic effect.
Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life gives a similar energy "I want something to---get me through this-----life"
This is a nice tune
this is the story of a girl
It’s all good, my dad came through for me. The ultimate divine intervention.
I remember this on an episode of Lizzie McGuire where it was picture day and Lizzie didnt want to wear a ugly, handmade sweater her grandmother made for her and she got off the bus and this song was playing. absolute nostalgia
It’s now on Disney + streaming service and they removed this song!!! 😭😭😭 I’m assuming due to copyright or royalties. I watched this exact episode and it made me soo upset. It’s some weird stupid upbeat electro song now ugh such a disappointment tbh
Daniel Pineda they removed so many songs! Us Against the World by Play, All the Time in the World and Spinnin Around by Jump5. :( the new gen will never know
@@Danieldpineda That's why some people are pirating "Lizzie McGuire" episodes from Disney+ to do video editing. Video editing that helps get back those songs. Which were on original "Lizzie McGuire" episodes.
this song just randomly came into my head after many years what a vibe
Listening to this on my quality RayCon Earbuds
Thanks daddy RayGun!
Don't care what anyone says, the early 2000s were something of a golden age.
