I'm 67 years old and have a disease that may prove to be fatal. Through God's grace I'm gonna go to heaven! My sons will play this at my funeral. It's so full of joy and grief and enduring love. UPDATE ON MAY 17th 2021:Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. The prayers are working. My late Christian mom who was born half-Jewish would credit my Jewish genes 😊. I can now stand for a long time and walk a little. I'll get full neurological testing soon. I send all of you much love. Thank you God and Jesus I love and praise you. I am humbled that you are sending healing love.
@@kienwage1009 Hi dear! I have a weird neurological disease and the doc hopes to rule out corticolbasal ganglia degeneration which is fatal within about 7 years. I'll have to wait for more tests. Right now I haven't fallen on 2 months and feel better. You're so sweet to ask!
@@emrythompson No thank you for caring dear. The neurologists are trying to rule out corticolbasal ganglia degeneration which is bad news. I still have to wait for more tests but I feel good and haven't fallen down for the last 2 months or so. So far so good!
After his mother died, one night during his sleep, he talked with her. When he woke up, that song was in his head. It is no mere tribute, that song is a gift from his mother.
@@TheRealShaanSolo Patrick Monahan said that-- almost a year to the day after his mother passed from cancer-- he awoke from a dream with her words ringing in his mind: "I'm back in the atmosphere". And that's what led him to write the song.

I lost my mother on Friday morning. I always thought of her when I heard this song. I'd like to think of her wandering around up there. She could never sit still. Rest in peace, mom.
I lost my Mom in 2004 to breast cancer at 56, and this song never fails to bring me to tears. I love you Mom, and I'll meet you somewhere between Venus and Jupiter one day.
I lost mine in 2015 and I always think of her when I listen to it. She is off doing her own thing and I will see her again. Just like you will. So sorry for your loss
My first job at 17 was at a Burger King . I remember closing up my shift at the store and this song coming on the speakers. It would be 5 pm and I would look up and see my mom waiting in the bench outside for me. We grew up pretty low income and only had one car, which my dad used for work. She would walk from our apartment to my job at the ending of my shift. Afterwards we’d grab some decaf coffee and talk about our day. I’m 30 now and had my son in June. She passed a month later never getting to see him. I miss her so much it hurts, I think about her randomly sometimes and the shock/ pain starts flowing back in. Even though we didn’t have much growing up, her love kept me so happy I didn’t need anything else. Love you Aummi RIP.
The souls that we cherish are the most beautiful the most fragile we see the pain and can't fix it leaving us gasping for air .. My mom died with a beer in one hand and a straw the other dying the way she lived with no boundaries no judgements I see her now laughing among the stars. She worked hard her whole life never getting past the 5th grade due to severe dyslexia living life thru such a small scope never knowing anything but poverty and disappointment. Kiss your son sing this song and Know in an Infinite Universe with Infinite possibilities you determine your happiness if you want to draw zombie comic books draw them if your happy making homemade soaps make break free of The Matrix and CREATE
Thank you beautiful soul for sharing this. All I have to offer my kids is love and I worry that it isn't enough. I hope my children can think of me the same way you think of your mother when I'm gone. May her spirit be blessed and be felt forever more.
When my uncle passed away he wanted this song played at his funeral. He will be gone 20 years this Halloween, still can’t listen to this without crying. This one is for you Uncle Mike ❤️
not just this song brother, a whole array of song I've connected to my mother before her passing, all of which had ironic meaning of what was to come. Never met someone that reminds me of her, but im constantly reminded of her by random things; which gives me superstition that she's watching me, even though im atheist.
My mother passed away unexpectedly 2 days ago. She was only 57. She faced a lot of adversity in her life, but her soul was beautiful and unblemished. I'll see you later. Rest easy mama. I love you!
Sorry to hear that she passed relatively young sir. My mom passed just recently in August at 90 years, living out a full and fruitful life. Rest in peace to your mom.
I recently lost my son to an overdose. He had been sober over a year & it was so unexpected. He always told me I was his best friend. This song invokes the memory of the bright light, so full of life in his smiling blue eyes. I know we are pure energy and consciousness is ever expanding, never ends, that he's dancing among the stars & I'll be with him again soon. I love you infinitely & unconditionally, Cameron.💫
Sweetheart I hate that for you and I was on the street for a couple years and I know it is a bad thing and my symphony goes out to you . My name is NINE I'm a rock vocalist. I hope you get to hear me.
My grandmother had passed on thanksgiving in 2020 from cancer… I know it’s a great reminder especially in the holiday season… but it makes me think of how I’ll spend the rest of my life remembering her instead of being with her, and how many milestones and achievements I’ve had without her there. She loved the organ/piano, and every song with a piano makes me think of her and her talent. I love you grandma.
Train is 2 different bands... after 2003, all the members changed except the singer... I'd be honored if some Drops of Jupiter fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of MEET VIRGINIA by Train and A THOUSAND MILES by Vanessa Carlton on my YT channel in tribute to the great music of the late 90s & early 00s. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace out (as we used to say back then).
When I was a kid, this song came on the radio when I was sitting in the backseat of my parent's car driving home after a day at the planetarium. Such an awesome end to an awesome day
I have recently been diagnosed with menieres disease, losing my hearing and constant tinnitus. Making sure I hear this while I still can. Best record ever made? It's got to be up there. The strings make it.
Im sorry to hear about your disease. I hope this song keeps bringing you some kind of comfort when you’re feeling down. Keep being strong my friend. Take care 🤘🏾
My late husband love of my life. Passed two days past our 10th anniversary. I’m a proud navy widow. I also lost my brother three months before. Lord bless and keep their souls in your blessed grace.
Sorry for your loss, I can relate as my grandparents celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on August 12th 2007 next day my grandma passed away from a fatal heart attack.
Can you imagine your child writing such a beautiful song for you after you die? What a fantastic tribute to his mother and I hope she can somehow hear this every time it's listened to.
My dad passed away from cancer last September and he loved astronomy, science fiction and the "what ifs" that come with the genre. He was one who got me into astronomy and I like to think he's exploring the universe in between visiting us. Say "hi" to the Voyager for me, dad❤
Lost my dad to cancer in December of 23' I hate cancer i come to this video to remember him and try to imagine the journey he's on I'm so sorry u lost ur dad hope you're doing okay these days
I promise you: he is alive and well and checks on you frequently. My father died 60 years ago Nov. 2nd and still checks in on me. Several of us have seen his spirit, sometimes singly and together. I am one of two children left now. He even checked on my daughters, having visited one during the night when she was six years old. She knew things about him that no one would have told her. I am greatly comforted knowing that they are here with us at least part of the time.
I'd be honored if some early '00s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of MEET VIRGINIA by Train and A THOUSAND MILES by Vanessa Carlton on my YT channel in tribute to 2 of the most iconic songs of the New Millenium era. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
Yea, the late 90s, 00s definitely had the best two decades of music an then everything else under the 00s, music now well if ya wanna call it music is a disaster! Train rocks, always has an always will
Not only is this a beautiful song, from a son who absolutely loved his mother, but it’s also a song to remind each and everyone of us to fly and be free!
I dedicate this to my dad, he passed away 3 days ago at the age of 91. The funeral is tomorrow and I was thinking about him and this song popped up on my play list. He was always a sweet and tender man. I always remember him crying after he spanked me, we both cried, just for different reasons. His soul has winged it's way to heaven. I hope I have enough composure tomorrow to read his eulogy without breaking down. I love you dad.
Your dad sounds like an amazing man, I can tell you made his life happy just being his child. I'm sorry for your loss, and hope you have a wonderful year!
It depends entirely on what kind of video you're watching. Discussions on videos on science or history or cats tend not to get too nasty. Videos on music from about the '70s and before tend to just have people who really like the music so everyone is like "they don't make music like this any more" "the music they make today is crap" "I remember when I was 12 and first heard this song" etc.

My 16 year ok’d daughter died in an accident in 1998 when this was still new. I listened to the words and wondered how anyone else could have been so exactly like her that some one could get the words right, so right as this amazing song. She was that glorious and for me, this will always be her anthem. Thank you, Pat, for sharing your own loss that so helped me through mine.
So very sorry for your loss. I'm a mom of 4 so I can only imagine...

I grew up through hard rock, disco, hair rock, heavy metal, grunge, nu- metal, and every incarnation of music since then. Some bands are outside of a genre. Train is one of them. Just stuff that our souls need to hear.
I dedicate this song to you, all of you. I hear ya... closing in on 71 and been through more musical fads & styles than I can name. Some songs rock, some calm... some sadden, some lift you up... some move your feet, and some move your heart. I haven't heard this one even mentioned in months, but just had to come play it when I did. Music is such an enigma, from superstars to one-hit-wonders.
This is a song that seems to temper my emotions when music invokes memories. It evokes some good so yeah. Let the wind sweep and dance beats dig a hole and drown in the dirt
@Rich Jake probably because of the 1000's of people commenting. Doesn't make any single one of them right or wrong. That's what is great about music, it speaks to everyone in its own way.
@Rich Jake Key words, "in my opinion". It does not matter who says it or how many people say it, what matters is how frequently one person says it. Otherwise, you have to account for your bias.
I so love this song. My daughter took me to my first Train concert in Indy & it was amazing. So when I went over seas for the first time by myself, I played this so much. I would find myself dancing around my apartment in Singapore singing this song & even today 20 years later, it make me smile & makes me so happy. Now my granddaughter is loving it as well. 🙂

I believe we exist in a multi-plane universe and that she is still out there. And sometime in the future, you will join her and celebrate in the reunion of your love.
I just found out that for several parts of the song the guitar was actually taken out. You can see the guy playing but it doesn't sound, like from 1:14 to 2:00, to slowly come back up at 2:27. Check out this story: th-cam.com/video/Ne5GjBpfqLc/w-d-xo.html
lyrics: Now that she's back in the atmosphere With drops of Jupiter in her hair She acts like summer and walks like rain Reminds me that there's time to change Since the return from her stay on the moon She listens like spring and talks like June But tell me, did you sail across the sun? Did you make it to the Milky Way To see the lights all faded And that heaven is overrated? Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? One without a permanent scar And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there? Now that she's back from that soul vacation Tracing her way through the constellation She's checked out Mozart while she does Tae Bo Reminds me that there's room to grow Now that she's back in the atmosphere I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly So he never did land But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet? Did you finally get the chance To dance along the light of day? And head back to the Milky Way And tell me, did Venus blow your mind? Was it everything you wanted to find? And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there? Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken Your best friend always sticking up for you Even when I know you're wrong Can you imagine no first dance Freeze dried romance, five-hour phone conversation The best soy latte that you ever had, and me But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet? Did you finally get the chance To dance along the light of day? And head back to the Milky Way And tell me, did you sail across the sun? Did you make it to the Milky Way To see the lights all faded? And that heaven is overrated And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? One without a permanent scar And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself? And did you finally get the chance To dance along the light of day? Oh and did you fall for a shooting star? Fall for a shooting star And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?
thank U lovey.... Tis truly an important one. Since a dear friend died suddenly at 21, this song has for me become her anthem. She was a magical, musical, whimsical soul who was taken far too young, and too soon. It was 20 years ago today that we lost her, but I can so easily picture her dancing along the light of day, with drops of Jupiter in her hair.

My brothers and I all slept in the same room, in our old house....and now we're all scattered, growing up...I just helped my brother move out. Both warms and Sadness to my heart. Many memories thru out those days God gave me the opportunity to live and love the music of the 60s,70s and 80s. I’m sad the younger generation doesn’t have a clue

I first heard this song while watching tv with my mom as a kid. We were watching the game show "Don't forget the lyrics!" and as soon as I heard it I loved it. After my mom died suddenly almost 3 years ago every time I hear this song I cry thinking about her. I never knew about it being a tribute to his own late mother until now. The world is full of surprises. Love you mom.
I love this song. It speaks to me because I lost my mother to cancer when I was 18. In 2002, I started looking at a star above my house and assigned it to be my mom. It's weird, but comforting.
22 years after I first heard this I am still here, still listening, and it's still my favourite song of all time. I've used it to laugh, to cry, to remember friends and make memories. Thank you Train, you will never know just what this song has meant to me and my life. Thank you.
My wife died in 2002 and I had to raise our son alone. A week after she died my son asked me "when is mommy coming home?" I lost it. How do you explain to a 5 year old their mom is gone. I did the only thing I could think of, I took him outside and showed him the brightest star I could find. I said that's your Mom. And he said oh, shes never coming home, she's in heaven now. She was a Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter. This song was popular around that time. Very hard for me to listen to, but still the best written song I've ever heard.
@@twistedsunshine4484 Thank you. It was a very long time ago. That 5 year old turned 27 last week. Because of that loss, we are best friends and always have been. We are good.
This song has nothing to do with someone dying or remembering those who have passed. It's a song about a small town man reuniting with his young love who left to go see the wider world and discover herself, and now she's back home. She has been changed by the breadth of her far away experiences, has grown beyond his ken, and he wonders if he can now be enough for her.

I was dreaming that i was eating fries. Not McDonald's but the big thick soft ones you get from a diner. Man they were good but i was also singing this while i was eating. So i woke up from my nap and played it. I just remembered, the dream started with me cleaning my apartment and i found one of those aluminum foil plates with fires in them. I put them in a regular plate so i can throw them in the microwave. Then i found more and began eating those while the other one warmed up a lil. thats when i began singing. In the dream i was remembering how epic the swelling of the violins sounded in the song. All the lil details of what make this song so grate. So i woke up and playing it. I stll want fries.
I love how everyone has been through heartbreaks and came here to share our stories. We were broken, we were down but heck we didn’t give up. We survived through it all and here we are on this day. Everytime the saddness tries to overtake you, come here and listen to this song and remember all the good times with your mom. Remember, death is but one moment in our lives. It doesn't define who we were or what we stood for. I lost my mom 26 yrs. ago and I come listen to her old favorites and while there maybe a few tears, (yes, I still miss her)) there are many more smiles as I remember conversation snippets, times of closeness with her, goofy stuff she did with us and for us. I have a million memories of my mom, and I know you do too... dwell on those. I'm so sorry your mom passed, especially under those circumstances. Bless you ValentinasMommy. And I know for a fact it does get easier as time goes on. Chin up darling, you have at least a million memories that will make you smile. ♥
ValentinasMommy the song is about the lead singer losing his mother as well, so you can find comfort in the lyrics and in the fact that your struggle is not yours alone.
I use to run home from junior high almost everyday just to catch this video on MTV. I have autism. I understand why this was considered the best soft rock song of all time.
I remember this being one of my favorite songs growing up. I also remember learning it was about his mother who passed away and how afraid I was to loose my mother. Well.. it finally happened this summer.. it’s worse than I even imagined she was an amazing nurse , mother and friend who life didn’t always treat right. She deserved the world. Happy heavenly birthday mom 💕
Lovely words. I love this song too. I always feared losing my mother, ( who sounds like yours). In 1998 it happened. A terrible time for me. The universality of love and loss binds us all.
I lost my mom in 2009. I literally fell to my knees when I was told she wasn't going to make it. I spent her last night with my head on her lap just holding her hand. God how I miss that wonderful loving creature of God's best design. I was so lucky to have her for my mom. She always encouraged me and never cut me down. She was strict, but always loving. No one could have asked for a better mom.
"She listens like Spring and she talks like June" I didn't understand that line until just now. It means she listens first and speaks second, since June comes after Spring.
+Chase Dixon What does the whole song mean to you ? To me, it is from a woman that was institutionalized, and is crazy, and is now out in the real world. That is my take on it.
Once every couple of year's when i remember there was actually real music once upon a time. The 90's are the death of a genre that will never be replicated.
I'm 67 years old and have a disease that may prove to be fatal. Through God's grace I'm gonna go to heaven! My sons will play this at my funeral. It's so full of joy and grief and enduring love.

You were truly rich to have such a loving mother. With your attitude, she must have been a fantastic parent. God bless you.
😢💔 my condolences
The souls that we cherish are the most beautiful the most fragile we see the pain and can't fix it leaving us gasping for air .. My mom died with a beer in one hand and a straw the other dying the way she lived with no boundaries no judgements I see her now laughing among the stars. She worked hard her whole life never getting past the 5th grade due to severe dyslexia living life thru such a small scope never knowing anything but poverty and disappointment. Kiss your son sing this song and Know in an Infinite Universe with Infinite possibilities you determine your happiness if you want to draw zombie comic books draw them if your happy making homemade soaps make break free of The Matrix and CREATE
that is so bittersweet
Thank you beautiful soul for sharing this. All I have to offer my kids is love and I worry that it isn't enough. I hope my children can think of me the same way you think of your mother when I'm gone. May her spirit be blessed and be felt forever more.
I think it’s beautiful how many people use this song to memorialize their lost loved ones.
When my uncle passed away he wanted this song played at his funeral. He will be gone 20 years this Halloween, still can’t listen to this without crying. This one is for you Uncle Mike ❤️
This song is a dedication song to his mother, I think we can all relate
not just this song brother, a whole array of song I've connected to my mother before her passing, all of which had ironic meaning of what was to come. Never met someone that reminds me of her, but im constantly reminded of her by random things; which gives me superstition that she's watching me, even though im atheist.
I think it's sad! Loved ones lost? IDK, don't think its what its about! Mostly it's about money!
It's an intriguing bit of trivia imo
All I can say is OMG this man is phenomenal I love his voice and I love this song, THANK YOU❤.
My mother passed away unexpectedly 2 days ago. She was only 57.
She faced a lot of adversity in her life, but her soul was beautiful and unblemished.

Train is underrated and needs more credit, everyone has heard their music
2 Grammys is underrated?

Lord works mysterious Ways.

@Rich Jake probably because of the 1000's of people commenting. Doesn't make any single one of them right or wrong. That's what is great about music, it speaks to everyone in its own way.

lyrics:
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's time to change
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and talks like June
But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?
Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?
Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation
She's checked out Mozart while she does Tae Bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow
Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane
Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly
So he never did land
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
And head back to the Milky Way
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find?
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?
Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance
Freeze dried romance, five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me
But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
And head back to the Milky Way
And tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded?
And that heaven is overrated
And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself?
And did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
Oh and did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star
And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?

Perfectly done indeed!
Agreed on the strings. Beautiful, powerful, melancholy & touches one's spirit. Haved always really liked this tune.
The string arrangement won a Grammy, deservedly so.
The early 00s had a lot of string sections in rock music. Basically the entirety of Beck’s Sea Change and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ By the Way albums feature a string ensemble.

I just lost my mother.😢 My condolences to you too
23 now. Lost my mother when I was 9. RIP to that wonderful lady. It’s been tough for me and my little brother without her. It broke us growing up but it made us resilient.
My Dad passed when I was only 3 I really don't know much about him, although I've had so many questions this last decade Several years ago I had most of my right lung removed from lung cancer.. Yesterday I found out I have a malignant tumor on my left lung now. I'm oxygen dependent so surgery is not an option This is my 3rd cancer and for the 1st time I feel like I'm near the end. This song is more meaningful than ever, I'm excited that I will finally meet my dad and get to hear of his journey! 🙂
Though it's very difficult thinking about leaving my children and grandchildren I'm just 59 but otherwise tired and ready I would love for this song to be played for my Dad (he was just 34) as well as myself , I know that it's God's call not mine Just a feeling I can't shake God bless 🙏
So many losses! My prayers and condolences to all 🙏

Thank You I really needed to hear that as I'm not really sure about the life I've lead is anything else but a total waste of time... Everybody wants their life and accomplishments to be remembered and I see mine as failure. I've lost everything in My life only to hide behind My mask to show that I'm fine but inside I feel empty because My heart has seen so much pain and to this day I still carry that pain so deeply that it only seems natural and a part of Me... I'm too old to set it free as I have carried it so long!!!! But Thank You for your kind words as I will look to them for healing!!!!
Doc I lost contact with you on messenger but I will never lose contact with you in my heart. You sing what I feel you are totally awesome.
I received a visit from my daughter a few months ago who past away in 2016. A week ago I heard this beautiful piece of poetry I haven't heard in a while. After realizing I had heard this same concept in my visit, I researched the meaning behind the song and lost my breath. I hope I can one day give the answer to the last line of "Drops of Jupiter' to Pat. My daughter answered that question. Now I listen to this composition every day when I wake up and before I go to bed. "Someone who understands'

I lost my Mother when she was 58 in 1993 to cancer and then my sister died in 1994 from breast cancer. I was devastated and had a hard time for a while. I almost lost myself and my family. It was a hard road, but I knew they wouldn't want me to give up. I have six wonderful children and have been married for 37 years now. This song means more to me than Train can ever know.

I had a cousin die at 20 too, this was played at her funeral
And he is soo handsome 2!

Even though so Sad… it’s A Beautiful Memory ❤️. Hope you and your son are doing well

Honey, I don't know how old you are but it really doesn't matter. When we lose our mum, at any age, it is rough and it sucks. Mine died of cancer when I was in my late 30's. She was a great mum and 16 years later I still miss her. Grief and loss hurt and me telling you that it will get less painful in time won't impact you until that time is passed. I feel your pain and I hope you take care of yourself and I hope you have other family that can remember the good times and funny memories of your mum with you.
