My eyes were going through the normal aging stages, then I started exercising more, walking, got rid of sugar, processed foods and white flour. Then I started taking turmeric (with black pepper and olive oil) for my arthritis. My Osteoarthritis left me! It was wonderful. I went to see my eye dr because my yearly was due. He asked me how I made my eyes go back to 20/20. I told him what i had been doing. He changed my glasses because my eyes got better. Then three weeks later, I had a double mastectomy because I had breast cancer. After the anesthesiaâĶ.. my vision got way worse. It was worse than before I had started to take care of myself. For 6 months now, my vision is still bad even though I am still trying to do the things I did before the surgery. Am sad about the set back in my vision, but at least I got rid of the cancer. Best wishes to you all. OH, an I am also now taking anastrazole because of the cancer. I think the deterioration has been caused by this drugâĶ.. which STEALS all the estrogen in your body. âĪ
Take care - keep up the good practice.
I was just on this same med for breast cancerâĶdiagnosed June 2023âĶ.2 surgeries and radiationâĶ.then started anastrozoleâĶtook it for two months, and my joints in my hands and legs became so painful and swollen I was unable to cross my legs to sit, unable to skateboard, difficulty making a fist due to swollen fingers, etc etcâĶ.then I developed a âfloaterâ in my eyeâĶ..the doc gave me a new med to tryâĶ.I am picking it up tomorrowâĶ.best wishes to you (and meâĪ) as we work on thriving after breast cancer âĪððŧ I am now taking AReds2 vitamins for my eyes ðĪðŧ
Silly question, why canât someone else do a study to confirm as to whether or not the NAC drops actually work?
Use the recommended dosage on the box/dropper bottle, set a time frame, and go from there.
I know it is costly, however, instead of knocking it (not you doc), do your own research to prove the drops effectiveness, or lack of.
Too many nay sayers out there.
Well if it steals all the estrogen take Premarin 1.25!mg!! You do have an option. I went into surgical menopause starting at 21. 23 & by 24 I had no female parts left. I had NO choice or I'd be dead. There's nothing wrong with HRT. Just turned 61, haven't had a single problem with it. It's helped me feel human. Esp now with hypothyroidism insane dryness. I hope you can go off that drug that's hurting your vision.. I was just put on hydroqualiiquine for multiple arthritises ridiculous bone pain which can destroy retinas. After I'm already at risk for wet Macular Degeneration. All bcuz these idiots refuse to prescribe pain meds. They'd rather I go blind & be in wheelchair. I will NEVER exist that way!!! I learned after I took a few. I'm off then. That particular drug once damage starts continues, even if you stop taking the drug. This woman knew my blindness risk already!!!! To say I'm angry is an understatement!!
@@KatrenaS Hugs to you. We will find our way through this.
Summary from Dr Eye Health of his tips:
"Eat healthy (a traditional mediteranean diet is still best for the eyes based on current research). 2. Don't smoke, 3. Wear hats and sunglasses when in the sun 4. Moisturize the skin of the face and talk to your dermatologist if you can delay skin sagging/changes to the eyelids. 5. Research on eye vitamins to delay cataracts is mixed, lutein may be of benefit. 6. If you ever develop macular degeneration, eye vitamins are frequently recommended, lutein may be a safe and great option to help reduce risk. 7. Small studies have supported astaxanthin as helping reduce eye fatigue in adults 40+."
Thank you Sir!

I listen to a lot of podcasts. I tend to question people's credentials when I first listen. But credentials do not necessarily mean the podcaster is focused on presenting good information. I am very impressed with Joseph Allen with his research orientation and that he is not out there to sell products. He makes me think of Dr. Mirkin who was also geared to do lots of research on new and current studies and getting the information out. Like Mirkin, Dr. Allen is very discerning about what he promotes. He's the real thing. Thank you Dr. Allen.
Thank you for your brilliant help. I live in France and am over 70 and still donât need cataract surgery. Your advice will help me have even healthier eyes MERCI BEAUCOUP
Wow! Iâve learned so much about our eyes today. Thank you Dr. Allen
Glad it was helpful!
Thank You Dr J.J.Allen for all your explanations on eye health really appreciate you. Blessings and love from South Africa âĪïļ
Thank you!! ð
It would have been useful to mention that laser eye surgery causes earlier cataracts, according to studies, 10-15 years earlier than those who did not have lasik! This is something everyone considering these eye surgeries should know.
Wish Iâd known 10 yrs. ago when I had LASIK Surgery doneâĶ
There is another impact for eyes from lasic surgery: the ridges on your cornea surface will make it impossible to achieve 20/20 distance vision with replacement lens for cataracts.
I was diagnosed with AMD at 64 n stopped taking AREDS caused headaches began eating healthier n now 70 so far so good! Praying my eyes stay healthy ð
ð
Astaxathin is awesome supplements for your eyes , skin and other thing I notice if I run out of it my vision is worse
Thanks Doc, what a lovely young man you are helping all us oldies ha, what bummer getting old eh, but fresh food, exercise, humour and keeping slim seems to help it all. Big hugs from London, England, nite doc.
Fantastic 1st 40 minutes looking forward to hearing the Q&A tomorrow! Not fun fact - I use to think having a few spinach leaves with my meals fulfilled my dietary needs for dark leafy greens. I'm realizing when several servings of fruits and vegetables are suggested daily it takes the full amount to obtain the necessary amount to have a positive impact. At least going forward I can aim for that.
God bless you Dr. Allen âĶ love your show!
Thank you for your time you take to share your experience
I had strabismus surgery in both eyes. I developed mild Astigmatism in both eyes after the surgeries. I wish I never had the surgeries.
I noticed I slept on my sides makes my vision worse , so I did eye exercises and long distance ones and slept on my back. Lucky it came back how it was before.
I also noticed I did under eye exercises too much and now affected my vision worse of reading. So hopefully will come better again. Donât strain the muscles in your eyes or have the strabismus surgeries if u need to. Vision is so important!
Thank u, for the great advice. ??? Iâm 64 n have had macular degeneration for 10 yrs or better. Iâm not getting the eye ball injections because I felt it wasnât helping n I had to quit my job due to problems seeing at night. When I left in the morning for work it was dark n depending on season it was dark in the evening. I have actually driven on the wrong side of road because I was not able to see at night. I figured it was time to retire to avoid an accident. Now Iâm devastated because I may not be able to renew license. Praying for a miracle ððŧððŧ?????????????

Thank you very knowledgeable info
I always learn something great watching your information videos!! You are so smart!! Thank you!! You are helping many & I only hope more youth could learn from you what we didn't know in our younger days!!!
I have had so many eye issues... from glasses in my teens, lasik in my 30s, cataracts in my 50s, now to floaters, extreme dry eye & back to glasses & soon the dreaded bi-focals!
I have been wearing progressive lens glasses for more than 10 years, and itâs been really helpful to be able to see far and close with the same pair of glasses . The only bad thing is that they cost more. For prolonged reading I then wear reading glasses.
Your blue eyes...so stunning , doc
thanks for noticing!

I agree, Doc has beautiful eyes
Question What else do u suggest in getting rid of floaters ?
I think he may have colored contacts

âĪâĪâĪâĪ As a consultant physician for over 45 years, I find that there is no information in the medical literature on why floaters of microscopic size can be visualized by the eye.
In the past I have a number of floaters which are obviously fungal cells. I could even see the nuclei, the cell membranes, the septal walls, the cell walls, vacuoles and even the Golgi apparatus in these cells....these I can normally see under a microscope with a magnification of hundreds of times!
ð I feel that microscopic floaters can be clearly seen only in myopic eyes where the focal point is in front of the retina. When a microscopic floater is at or between the focal point and the retina, the image can be magnified hundreds of times and thus can be seen by the eye just like a microcopicic image.
Wow..I just learnt something new about these microscopic floaters..So intriguing! One Q - If they are fungal cells, does that mean our body has too much fungus?
Anyway 90% of all the living cells in the human body are bacteria, viruses, fungi etc i.e. humans are made up of mainly germs! ð

Hi from Germany âĪ
I'm 55 female, lost a lot of vision first only near and simce some years also far troughout the last 10 years.
Also dry eyes in the night.
Befor I didn't need glasses and had no problems with my eyes.
Excited to watch if I can do sth. about it.

Thank you, I'm listening to your lovely program about eyes.

Hi Dr. Joseph, thanks for the interesting presentation. I'm 70 years young, and four years ago my eye doctor told me I had cataracts in both eyes. She said it wasn't required to pass the DMV eye test here in Indiana to get them replaced; I would be still legal to drive like this. I waited for another year, but then I told her that, even though I was still legal, I wasn't feeling safe out on the road, because the cataract impaired my peripheral vision too much. She replace my left lens, and the result was that great, that a three months later I had her do the other one as well. I do need reading glasses (I use the wide angle progressive lenses for driving now, so I can see the instruments, and see clearly in the distance,) and I asked for a prescription for special glasses for my work. (I use computers for work and the screens are about one meter (3 feet) from my eyes). For a few years, I was very uncomfortable driving, especially at night, because of the cataracts. I think doctors should recommend intraocular lenses earlier, and insurance companies should cover the cost. I don't understand how and why the DMV's can let us legally drive like this.
Now I can function effectively, on the road, and at work, and I have much better vision than for many years, maybe since age 50-55.
The intraocular lenses are great and I have no discomfort whatsoever!
Wow. That's very informative and giving us some hope. Thankyou for sharing ðĪ

I also had Lyme and covid when I got NAION OD in my right eye...My retina doctor said blood clot but Will's Eye Hospital said Naion...Oh, tinnitus in my right ear as well as hearing my pulse in my right ear...I am a freaking mess...
Very helpful video. Is there anything that would help slow the eyes from receding into the head as we age? I was wondering why as we age our eyes get smaller and found that they recede. Once I hit 75 I started noticing it happening and I am not ready to look my age. What can I do? My brain thinks I am still 50.
Thanks very informative.

They do work! I worked for a company that sold them. People who took them over several months had great results. Early cataracts and floaters reversed. Great genuine testimonials. Pharmaceutical industry see things like this as competition and don't like it!

Nice video, I fixed my vision issues by running on animal fat instead of carbs. Soon as I eat processed garbage a few days, I need eyedrops again, Incredible how the tear film helps reading in my 50s, I guess the fat helps the lipid layer of the tear film.
100 true for so many I've talked to as well. But, folks want drops and meds instead of changing their diets!....ðĒðĒ
What do you mean running on animal fat. What do you eat just fatty grass fed meat and veg and your eyes got better?
@nzimbilef766
All types of meats, eggs, fish, seafoods, and dairy. Only tiny bits of fruit and veg!
@@ianstuart5660 my diet is about 80% good: grass fed ground lamb or gr beef ,canned Alaskan salmon, eggs, nut butter, bean soups, veg maybe one or 2 fruit a day. The bad is 2 slices bread a day , a few cookies ,ice-cream or cake . But lab results are good. My triglycerides are very low -50. Hi doc, knowing how busy you are, here's a short but important question for me or even many of your followers. Can you still do vision therapy after cataract surgery? The reason I ask is that we need to be able to focus near and far quickly during vision therapy, but if I decide to select monofocal IOL, then I can either see far or near depending on whether the IOLs are set to distance or near. You can just reply with Yes or No. But if you can expand the answer a little, that will be better and much appreciated. TIA.

I would love to see a video on Chromatic aberration and need for a higher abbe value needing plastic lenses due to sensitivity to polycarbonate, high index lenses, etc. You see yellow lines or fish bowl effect in any lenses that aren't plastic.
Any chance you doing a video on AMD please, would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot, I love your videos, very informative ð
Thanks for the very informative talk on eye degeneration. I have membrane on both my eyes and the specialists say I need major surgery on them. Can the membrane be removed with less evasive treatment? Whatâs your take on it?

Is it true that if you have glaucoma you should never put your body in a position where your head is lower than your heart because it increases eye pressure? Iâve heard you should sleep on a wedge pillow, never flat, and not do yoga, for instance. Also, donât bend over to clean low cupboards or the bottom of the refrigerator. And no bending over in gardening. I asked my ophthalmologist and she said sheâd never heard that.
using refresh eye drops for dry eyes. Had a laser procedure and helped with a small tare in back of eye. Also the floater went away. i am 72.

Greetings from Germany
I'm new to your channel. I'm suffering from eyes problem.
I had detached retina surgery on one eye in my 60s. Then cataract surgery in both eyes, was put on eye drops for glaucoma, then SLT surgery for better drainage. Most recent at 77 was double vision for which I got prism glasses to pull the images together in a bifocal for reading. Now I have tremors & the retina surgery eye twitches often with some sparks like fireworks. The glasses feel too strong & don't totally eliminate the double vision. I take L-Lysine for the eyes. I don't eat meat & have a plant based diet. I'm looking for anything to try to strengthen the eyes.

I had a floater all my life. Some days I never noticed it. Just had LALs installed ð due to cataract at 58. Now the floaters in my left eye are worse. Dr. said you have a new lens and will notice more floaters. Didnât tell me that before surgery! The floater is actually making vision down the middle blurred. If I stretch my lids open with my fingers the floaters get better. I think this floater has been one of my eye sight problems since 42 years old.

How intersting that I found this helpful video the same day I had an eye exam. I'm 72 and my eyes are definately changing. I was told that I have cataracts today. I learned a lot about cataracts among other things from this video.
There was a 118 year old nun. That needed no glasses till age 103. She was tested periodically. So between age 103-111 she used glasses. But after that she was unfortunately practically blind between 111-118. Does show what the human body is capable off. But ofcourse a complete outlier and one of the oldest people ever verified.
That's incredible! The oldest patient I have seen was 105!
I was born with cataract in one eye and later developed glaucoma in that same eye in my late teens, resulting in complete blindness in that eye. The other is fine, just some nearsightedness.
