    Here in Ontario Doug Ford love Premier took out the drive clean program where you had to go in every two years hook your car up to a machine and make sure it was up to code. If you had any codes showing you would have to get all those repairs done first. Now that shit's gone it'll be straight pipes and Cherry Bomb mufflers. Thanks guys great video

      ACTUALLY even though Herr Ford deleted the drive clean program you can still face hefty fines for modding your emissions system. The sure fire tell by police? Your loud exhaust as well as the smell of the uncatylized exhaust. I cannot confirm but I've been told that cops now carry db meters to measure the sound of your exhaust. They can immediately pull your plates and have you towed to an inspection centre.

      I'm all for hella power and straight piped exhaust, but it's a good way to kill children and cause insane amounts of cancer via inhalation of the shit the exhaust spews. It even was the cause of all that acid rain that was common during the 70s and 80s, and I'm clueless where nearly all cars having cats now it's not a problem anymore. Would you say you wish gasoline was still leaded? Probably not, and pure exhaust fumes are almost as harmful as the vaporized lead that people back in the day had to inhale constantly.

    My 2005 Mercedes E320 CDi had two cats, a big ass one behind the turbo and a secondary one further down the system, both gone and ZERO smoke, only an extra poke along with a very welcome increase in mpg's. Strangely there was not one O2 sensor on the whole system so no dash lights either. Engine is happy and so am I. Greta maybe not so much. Done it in every diesel car I've owned and the emissions test are always very low during the annual MOT test we have here in the UK. Go figure...Petrol (gasoline) cars it's a huge no no though, impossible to pass the emissions test without a cat fitted unless your car is historic or pre 1991.

    I don't know if it still is, but it used to be a federal crime in the US to try and pass off a punched cat as legit on inspection. In those states mix up some high octane fuel that will send more unburnt fuel into the exhaust thus burning up the cat, then if you fail inspection there are no tool marks or signs of tampering. By the way most of the time a hot exhaust will still pass, I passed with melted down cats for about 5 years before I had to start over.

    So if it to throw an 02 sencor code won't that make your car run crappy as the computer is trying to compensate for the bad sencors?

    • @myck7021
      @myck7021 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not necessarily, all a code is your car is detecting something. So I have a missing sensor somewhere for my tire pressure, the light is always on (my alignment is fucked however all 4 can be at over 32 psi and the lights still on) but when I blow a tire or get a nail (I don’t notice usually till the next day) any time there’s a drop in psi that’s more than unusual it’ll go off that moment it’s happening. So technically as long as there’s no other issues with the car all it’s picking up is “hey there’s to much bad exhaust exiting the vehicle” when in reality that code was already there to begin with but now instead of being a filter it’s a clogged hole letting bits of exhaust by pass. If you haven’t found it already there is a spark plug adapter that will fix the issue

      Usually this will cause a hissing sound, and depending on where your cat is it could also let carbon monoxide and other toxic fumes into your cars cabin if you're idling while stationary, and these chemicals build up in your body over time so avoiding them in the first place is a great idea. Plus holes before the muffler will be much louder than you expect, because they aren't being muffled, a few holes in the cat may end up louder than hollowing it, or replacing it with a straight pipe. I'd recommend drilling holes into the muffler, near the far end of it and checking how loud it is with each hole by starting the car every time

      The catalytic converters in Canada are not made with magnesium. That is absolutely ridiculous. But they are different from the cats on American cars. The Canadians found that if you filter your exhaust through maple syrup that would help them win the Stanley Cup. So yes the cats in Canada are filled with maple syrup and no they don't work at all. For anything.

    • @GearsAndTech
      @GearsAndTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough one. Here in Alberta you can't
      In fact, you can buy a brand new truck off the dealership with no mud flaps, and on the way home get pulled over by the police for not having mud flaps. You can't sue the dealership then
      So, it's unlikely you can sue a shop for no cat. You always have the right to do a pre purchase inspection at a shop of your choice before buying.

    Beware, gutting your converter may damage your engine on vehicles later than 96 due computer pollution sensors which monitor upstream and downstream exhaust gases. Your vehicles computer use the data to adjust air/fuel ratios and can cause your engine to run too lean or most likely rich which can cause poor fuel economy and excess carbon buildup.

    • @Subi_doo
      @Subi_doo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      You’ll need what’s called and o2 Fowler plug adapter to pull the o2 further out of the exhaust stream so it read correct. People using race pipes use these where there is no cat in place at all.

    • @darronpattel
      @darronpattel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya, it's not as simple as the guy in the video puts it: with all the tuning and other exhaust mods you would have to make for it to be safe for the engine and to get enough horsepower for it to be worth it (especially on vehicles with smaller engines), but it is worth doing if you got an old cat in a lot of cases just because they can get expensive.
      If you're buying a new car fresh of the lot, maybe leave it in till its used up though, that's how I see it....

    • @Subi_doo
      @Subi_doo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darronpattel personally I think it does more harm than good. It’s perfect if you need to look stock, but with a hollow barrel larger than the diameter of the pipe coming in and out, it creates a sport for turbulence, which can create heat from exhausts that can’t get out and swirl around inside the gutted cat, and or slow your exhaust flow down, which can be why some people lose power.

It's ceramics with precious metals like platinum radium in palladium , I don't know what you got your info but magnesium is not a precious metals in cats and it's not precious its very similar to aluminum. If your going to make automotive education do research before schooling folks and magnesium dust isn't "toxic" per se obviously dust or fumes from melting is not good for you to allow to enter your respiratory system and excessive fumes from welding it can cause flu type symptoms but dust isn't going to do that.

      @Yixdy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Removing it completely without installing a pipe or something in it's place will, depending on how short this makes your exhaust that is. Some turbo vehicles lose a bit of power because the turbo will not operate at it's full potential, and unfortunately some older (as in 1996 and older) may go into limp mode, which will cut your horsepower down significantly, among other things. But generally, if the catalytic converter is clogged it will actually restore power if you do this

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Yixdy A clogged cat, (and even some new ones IMO), will raise engine temps a lot, (even if the engine management system controls the water temp on your gauge). You will actually increase the life of your engine by reducing the temps if that is a problem. If your car runs great when cold, hammer it and it goes,---but loses that after it is warm, and you have some mileage on the car,---put on the top of your suspect list, "clogged cats". You also probably notice your heater blowing hot air, (from cold), real fast, and quite a bit of heat under the hood when you open it after operation.
