I had a PO420 bank one code. I went ahead and replaced my cat and two sensors after not being convinced anything can clean them after a lot of research. . This may work but It would be a mess for me to take my upper sensor off. The man at Midas had 26 years experience. I let him do it. I ordered the OEM parts and had Midas install it. Cost about 1,500 dollars parts and labor total. What I didn't; expect is it greatly improved my gas mileage. It went from 17 to 23-24 mi a gal. I double checked it.

You want to reverse flush. Too much exhaust pressure can blow seals and gaskets on the engine. Taking the converter off and using a dishwasher tablet in a bucket of hot water overnight is enough. Reverse flush with water quite well, dry it out on a hot day or with a hair dryer, reinstall and you're done.

Guys, I have a 2010 Nissan Sentra with over 220,000 miles on it. During the last 13 years, I have gotten catalytic underperforming codes 3 times. This is how I deal with them. With the engine cold, I pour Dawn detergent down a garden house. I then stick the hose as far as it will go into the tailpipe. I then seal, as much as possible, the tailpipe and garden house with plastic bags. I then turn on the house and fill the exhaust system with water and Dawn, making sure that the water does not reach the exhaust manifold but gets past the catalytic converter. I then let the soapy water sit in the exhaust system for 10 minutes. If the water has drained out via the tailpipe or leak in the exhaust system, I again add water until is is just past the catalytic converter and I immediately start the engine. The engine's exhaust will forcefully blow the soapy water out of the exhaust system and clean the catalytic converter. Let the engine run for 20 minutes, or go for a ride, and that's it, problem solved.

If the problem has just begun and is minor then yes, a fuel additive can clear the problem. If that ends up working for you I would suggest you only use a top tier fuel in your vehicle from that point forward. If you are in the U.S. the best choices are either Chevron or Shell gasolines.
