    How far can these electric cars go before they die?! We drove the Tesla Model 3, Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, Nissan Leaf, Kia e-Niro and Mercedes EQC across the UK to see how long they could last! Sure, the smart money is on the Tesla, with its claimed range of up to 348 miles - but can the manufacturer's figures really be trusted? Will victory instead go to the sporty-feeling I-Pace, or the posher EQC? Or will the more affordable likes of the e-Niro and Leaf pull a major upset and make it the furthest? There's only one way to find out...

    For those who uses metric and want to know how far these cars went:
    Mercedes : 194 miles = 312km
    Audi : 206 miles = 331km
    Nissan : 208 miles = 334km
    Jaguar : 223 miles = 358km
    Kia : 255 miles = 410km
    Tesla : 270 miles = 434km
    Based on the amount of likes and comments my comment got I think people do agree that carwow needs to have a straight up converter from miles to km. Due to the large following carwow already got.

      @@ElAnikilador001 the Model 3's battery has somewhat a weak spot when it comes to colder temperatures. Experts say that's due to the very certain battery chemistry used for the Model 3 - optimizing long-term battery life and charging rates.

      with normal use you charge the battery to full overnight, when going on long trips plan for stops when your battery gets down to 15-20% if you use dc fast charging getting to 80% battery should only take 20-30 min so basically a bathroom break and getting a snack and you good to go. Most people only drive at most 500 miles before they need to rest overnight at which time you plug it in to top it off

    • @specialestness
      @specialestness 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Evan Johnson the overwhelming lack of chargers in rural US and Canada makes electric cars sound like an absolute nightmare. Based on the amount of Tesla’s I see parked on the side of the road with no owner in sight tells me that the idiots from California don’t plan their trips properly. These cars would work fine in town if people could settle with slow dc chargers, but in my area electric cars are far from ideal for most of the population.

    • @evanjohnson1299
      @evanjohnson1299 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@specialestness how often to you refill you gas car? I fill mine around every 2 weeks, but with EV's(especially Teslas) you start with a full tank every day and have over 300 miles of driving before you have to fill up, so 90% of driving is the same, when taking long trips you have to do a little pre-planning or let Tesla's gps system plot a course for you there are enough superchargers to get anywhere in the US if you follow the system.

    • @specialestness
      @specialestness 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Evan Johnson the 300 mile range is obviously not applicable where I live. We get extreme winds and have prolonged steep inclines followed by very gradual declines. I typically get about 2 or 3 days on a tank. Furthermore, I can’t imagine the extreme temperature variances is very good for an electric cars battery. I can make my normal commute and see a temperature shift upwards of 60*f. My closest DC fast chargers are Tesla supercharges...90 miles away...and that’s completely off the path I would ever think about taking. I make 2-3 bigger road trips in a given year to meet family. Taking the specified Tesla route would add over 3 hours to my trip...not to mention the extra stop time. My closest Tesla dealer is 13 hours away or 6 if I want to attempt to import one to the states. As I said earlier, these cars are probably great for some people, but definitely not for the majority of the people around me.

      They should’ve timed how long each one was driving in the parking lots. People have done 800ish miles in the model S by merely traveling at low speeds while avoiding any acceleration. So the ones who played it more safe, exited the highway at a higher range, and roamed around the parking lots for longer periods probably had a much higher advantage. Then there’s also the speed and acceleration differences between the drivers in their lots that also increased the margin of error. Unfortunately, this test lost a lot of its accuracy after the drivers took their exits.

With a sample of 1 of each car, multiple variables (different weights in each car, different drivers in each car, different variations of drafting cars/distances, different age of batteries/car, etc...) I wouldn't say it is the MOST useful video ever. Just go with the EPA results.. which are STANDARDIZED with every vehicle they test. Even if you claim that EPA estimates are "flawed", they are done the same on each and every car so no car gets an advantage anyhow even if the methodology is "wrong". I'm amazed how many of you trust this one video instance vs an organization that does this for a living for every car that is sold in the USA. Think about it. Who would you rather trust? I’m a vehicle recovery technician and Iv recovered many of these cars. The Tesla tow mode is not for flat or support tows what it dose is raises the suspension for easier loading into a flatbed truck if the tow truck isn’t a super low access truck. For example a normal tilt and slide tow trucks loading angle on the bed might be too steep so the bumper would scrape and be damaged. The Nissan Leaf sometimes locks out as do all of them but the interesting fact is that they all have a normal 12v battery much like any internal combustion engine car dose, so all you do is get a battery jump pack and get some power into the car to get them into neutral. As in a case I had just yesterday if u don’t do this the vehicle may not let u charge it until the neutral or park position is selected hope this helps

    Interesting to see your result for the EQC. Mine, averaging the way my wife and I drive, usually claims to have just above 350km range, and I found that measure pretty accurate against actual km traveled on longer trips. Lots of hills in NZ, quite a few 80km/h restrictions not to mention villages etc, so trip average speed sits around 60-65km/h. Some long straights at 100 km/h.

Also Dubai in the summer is a another extreme reaching temperatures 43 °C (109 °F) I havent really seen a video in that climate, worth noting Patrol/Gas prices in the UK are generally double the price you guys get in the US and in the Middle east its really cheap abt a quater of the US prices.
