It’s time for another awesome EV range test!
We’ve pulled together six of the latest & greatest all-electric cars to drive them straight North from London to see just how accurate their claimed ranges are. But we won't be stopping when the range hits 0... We'll keep driving them until they come to a complete standstill, to see just what happens!
So what do we have in the line-up? Well, we’ve gone for range-topping editions of all cars, apart from the first car Mat’s in - the Mustang Mach-E. Sadly, we could only get our hands on the entry-level version for this video. However, everything else in the line-up is top-of-the-range! And what a line-up it is...
    Audi Q4 e-tron
    Skoda Enyaq
    BMW iX3
    Hyundai IONIQ 5
    Kia EV6
So which do you think will go the furthest? You’ll have to keep watching to find out!

Putting pressure on the luxury cars brands. I didn’t expect to see the luxury and quality of the cars. Hyundai really showed my how complacent the other big car brands are getting. I think that Hyundai is awesome looking and I reckon that Kia really stands out, but not so much in red. The interior in both the Hyundai and especially the Kia are miles ahead of so many other electric cars. I absolutely hate the vertical tablet type screens, and the Kia having physical controls for climate control is a must

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Personally I think the Hyundai looks like something a kid would have drawn back in the 90's or very early 2000 if asked what cars in the future would look like. The "digital" design he talked about in the video just looks dated to me, and in a few years it will just look even more out of touch with good design.
But then that might just be me showing my age. But I do think that a sign of good design is if something still looks relevant in a decade or two, and designs like the Hyundai tends to age badly.
But the inside is pretty nice looking, though I can only talk about what I saw. Physical controls will always be better than touch screens. It's all about the tactile feedback. You don't have to take your eyes off the road as you can feel the controls. Levers and sliders for things like climate controls are a good design that allows you to feel what the settings are. Again, any design that allows the driver to keep the eyes on the road is to be preferred.
Touch screens are good for navigation and possibly radio and phone use, but the problem is that the interface is changing depending on the module that's up front so you have to take your eyes off the road to see what it currently is showing. The buttons and controls also move depending on the active module and there is no way you can feel for them but you more or less have to watch that screen when manipulating the controls.

The same journey in a petrol BMW x3 would cost around £45. All those EVs have (very) hot-hatch performance, some are approaching supercar acceleration!!.
Charge via home solar panels for free fuel and what's not to love?
10 years ago the Nissan Leaf did 85miles.
Now we have genuine 250-300 mile ranges and rapid charge.
In 5 years we'll have genuine 500 mile range. The improvement is exponential as battery technology improves.

Well tech improved with anything over time. Problem they need to solve is what to do with the batteries once they pass their expiration date. As of right now there's no real recycling program and it's being thrown into the garbage. They need to find a way for cars to be able to be on the road for more than 10 years and be accessible to those with lower income. 2030 or 2035 when ev only sales take place, I hope they will have solved this problem or else there will be a ton of waste

How much real-life value would those numbers have? You're not driving in a vacuum but along other cars on the highway. So you either drive the same speed as everyone else (like in this test) or you are a big nuisance. And range on slower types of streets will just be higher, but also won't matter. You won't be driving 300 miles on residential streets in one go...
BTW: Stopping more often than in a gas car already makes sense for another reason. For long distances you time your charging stops so that you only charge up to the percentage where charging speed slows down. That's somewhere between 60% and 80% and gives you 15-20 minute charging stops instead of the 45-75 minutes for a full charge.

Sadly there’s a little bit of lazy journalism taking place; the Q4 e-tron 50 in Edition 1 Trim, with both Comfort and Sound pack and Technology pack (giving everything he described and a lot more) is around £62,500 with metallic paint. There isn’t a £63k model that lacks those other bits.

Well done to Carwow, not many teams could make a 40minute video of economical driving interesting. Wish I had waited for the EV6 before getting my current car.

@@adamgalloway7085 Even it may be the last ICE car, it might be worth keeping for leisure driving (if you have parking space). Whatever your new EV will be will be the new daily driver.
