Anyone who has ever driven any car with these kind of gearboxes knows that most of the time they don't shift that fast, even dual clutch boxes often don't shift that fast - 60 milliseconds is faster than a blink and no matter how smoothly they might try to make the engagement of the clutches it would inevitably result in a hell of a jolt in a decently powerful car at a generous throttle opening. I'm pretty sure these times also refer from the moment the TCU receives the input to shift to the moment the gear is actually engaged and the clutch released, which is not what the driver experiences - as the driver what you care about is how quickly it's all done from the moment you *select* the gear, which is very different because from you pulling the paddle to the signal being processed by the ECU, all the calculations done in regards to whether the shift is allowed at that RPM, whether the traction control will step in etc and the final confirmation being sent to the TCU there is a hell of a lot more than 60ms - this is why cars with these gearboxes often shift noticeably slower with the traction control on. On the topic of bold colours, worth mentioning that black is the best base colour if you want to wrap a car, as then when you open doors/boot etc you don't have some other bright colour peeking out.
The reason many of these cars are black, grey or white is because its owners have a very perticular taste: an often changing one. So they buy it and wrap it in whatever color they find attractive for perticular season. If you do that on a black or white car everything is fine. But if you try to wrap a car that is yellow, red, orange, blue, green etc. you'll often end up with a paint colour breaking thru a foil and ruining the effect.
I find it a little amusing that I spent five years driving a vehicle with a single clutch automatic transmission and can identify with some of the gear change issues. It was a Vauxhall Vivaro van!🤣
Corsa is a performance mode. Upshifts are fast, downshifts are smooth. As you want on a track. Sport mode is more of a “Fun” mode. Upshifts are sensible enough to cruise with, downshifts are entertaining.

Great videos, just recently got into your channel. As a Huracan owner, I really do think it is the better car. I track mine quite aggressively, and it really comes to life on a racetrack. Lamborghini, definitely cool! Loud, gorgeous bodies and somewhat obnoxious styling? Which I love. I can't do Aventador problems though. My mate had one of these that I had a play in. I agree very underwhelming. His was breathed on as well. Sounded phenomenal. Handling wasn’t great nor were the brakes. Gearbox was awful and not really great even in the corsa modes. They’re not a drivers car. They’re for revving up outside of Harrods. As weird as it sounds, it didn’t exactly feel ‘fast’ either. But I’ve found that with many of the lambos I’ve driven. Disappointing I think is the word.
I really wanted a Lamborghini, but at 6’4” they are all undrivable, as are Ferrari 430 and anything earlier. In the end I bought the 599, and it’s brilliant - I love the drive and I can fit in it with plenty of room to spare 👍

…and Sir Jay’s word of the day today isssss????? …”Inexplicably!” Ive counted 7 times? Just bustin balls brother. Greetings from the US! Its bright and early, birds chirpin, 27 degree Miami morning and im starting my day off with your vid! Hey, not sure if you’re at all interested, i actually may be possibly the only one requesting a review like this LoL… but it would be cool to see a vid of my current BMW, the F01/02 750 M-sport. It was a massive departure from its predecessor for sure! The 1st gen Rolls Royce Ghost was based on the F02 which is cool.. well in some aspects. My front bumper was flapping and i lost the side “bumper camera”..$585.00 USD! Why? Because its the same one as the RR! LoL But seriously, theyre brutal monsters actually! 400-450HP, 0-60 in low 4’s, theres also a ECU mod out there that gives it an extra 100hp! Its also basically the same 4.4.L M5 engine just slightly detuned. But that whole time frame is now considered an “ERA”…introduction of “Hot V” engines, styling that has evolved into today, the 7 series, MB S550, XJ, A8, etc. It’s a time in history where all the German MFRS’ came out of a very tough run in the early 2000’s!! …the Bangle Butt 7, the W220, …the point where they were all at their lowest point. Well, what came after was a significant departure from all the Big Saloon MFR’s. But would love to see the F01/02 or a LineUp Comparison? Anyway, im blabbing incoherently because its way too early for me. ❤️ you’ve got a fan in Florida! ☀️
Shame they never upgraded to DCT. Really sad to hear these were in batman spec, really terrible in the dark lines you cannot see all the lines and curves. Awesome video. Keep up the good work.
If any car makes sense with that transmission it's a Lamborghini. But now that more advanced transmission tuning and technologies are out, they could probably make a pretty similar DCT.
well maybe in 2011 that was true but the aventador has been out for ages now and should have gotten a DCT years ago. especially cars like the svj that are literally for the track
DCT was to big and heavy for the aventador; in the v12 it sits in the midtunnel, between the passengers (same layout since the countach)... they would have had to re-engineer and redesign the whole cockpit. The v10 got the gearbox behind the engine, and could fit it I
I feel it is a little bit too fast to enjoy on British B-road. I am not saying it can't be judged on such road when you comparing it like for like with other cars, but I think it would come back to it's own on Riviera motorway, or some Italian road where police will stop you for driving too slow.
I live in London where they are a fairly common sight. They are always covered in an outrageous rap. I think it's the car of choice if you have more money than taste. There is a small stretch of bars and restaurants where you will often find one parked on double yellows causing major issues with the traffic. The SUV has become more common in the last year and seems to be the vehicle of choice for the said tossers. Maybe with age the Aventador will be bought by a different type of person. Till then it is the only car I make a negative judgement on the owners without knowing them.
I don't get it, surely Lamborghini could have developed a dual clutch transmission for this (and solved the problems you mentioned) - their parent company was after all putting dual clutch transmissions in even their most humble offerings (Polo, Fabia etc) so surely cost shouldn't have been an issue? Maybe I'm missing something? Enjoy your video's, always honest, keep up the great work. Cheers!
If an Aventador…any Aventador doesn’t put a smile on your face I don’t know what will… It’s called “car reviewer disease”…all of them eventually catch it All the best to everyone
"that one of my cameras is going to go WEEEEEEEEEEE straight past me" LMAO that caught me off gaurd i'd love to see reviews on the sv and svj as well. you did a great job on this and explained some of the technical bits way better than I've ever seen!
Hanmond said the 2011 one was too safe and apparently they let the bull loose in the future evolutions. But IMO the biggest issue with the car was dumping big money on one then getting beaten by a 12C on the straights. It kinda exposed the V12 Lamborghini as a vanity product rather than a performance tool.
I, for once, don't mind about that. Even though I know a GT2 RS, 650S, and 488 Pista will make a mincemeat out of an Aventador S, every single time I saw one I still went head over heels.
I'm a N/A guy, big time, for fun cars. I should love the current Lambo lineup (excluding the VAG Urus obviously), but most of them simply don't speak to me. Far too much of the poser's cars, and the Aventador - to me - is the king of the poser's cars. ..but i do agree with you. Looking at pictures of the original Aventador now, it does it for me lookswise. With all the different versions of Aventador, to me always overshadowed by a gearbox i find embarrassing and a sad interior..but mostly that gearbox, i've forgotten that the original Aventador spoke to me in the looks department. Absolutely solid piece of design. I love that lambo exists, and are out there. But the current lineup isn't for me.
@@cafe405 You should look up what high maintenance means. We're talking taste in cars, not whether I'm high maintenance or not. ..and another help with your comprehension: "but MOST of them simply don't speak to me". "Most" isn't "all" now is it? Nuances are important. If I one day got so stinking wealthy that I could afford an extra car only used for an hour or two, a few times a year, I would consider a STO for that position. ..but only then. Up until that level of rich I would need a car with a broader usability.
I noticed a fer cars lately in really tasty lush colours and it made the whole car park look dull & grey. Now if you are in England anyway dull & grey is available most of the time - so why get your car that colour? But in a lovely Lambo it seems crazy to do so.
why would u want a lamborghini to be better? u want it to be crazier. Get a v10 if you want to get in and drive. All aventadors need fire spitting straight pipes and ridiculous bodykits, oetherwise go back to a murcie. The S is too quiet, good basis to start all the modifications
Mate, love your videos. But sometimes the hyperbole gets a bit much. To say that the (original) Aventador doesn’t put a smile on your face, Is so hard to believe. Even the most mundane people that have absolutely zero interest in cars, I’ve seen them smile cheek to cheek at the sight of one. Again, great videos. However, a little less cynicism would be appreciated.

Yeah I’ve never seen one in red, purple, blue, orange or yellow 😳
I find it a little amusing that I spent five years driving a vehicle with a single clutch automatic transmission and can identify with some of the gear change issues. It was a Vauxhall Vivaro van!🤣
Corsa is a performance mode. Upshifts are fast, downshifts are smooth. As you want on a track.
Sport mode is more of a “Fun” mode. Upshifts are sensible enough to cruise with, downshifts are entertaining.
I don't buy that, I get the smoothing it out on track, but no reason not to allow those shifts in sport
@@JayEmmOnCars I have an Aventador Svj and my wife HATES the Corsa Upshifts. Sport mode allows us the best of both worlds. Sounds good and it doesn’t feel like she’s being kicked in the head when we are cruising around. It feels great as a driver, but not everyone enjoys it.
@@tomi-auto but if you don't want full bore upshifts in the car even in Corsa, you just lift a bit - or change up below 6000rpm, it's easy enough to avoid it!
@@JayEmmOnCars but in that sense, it’s easy enough to just slap it into Corsa for a few moments and then back again! 🤣 I know what you mean though. I have often thought “I wish ego mode allowed you to pick gearbox settings”. We should get you in my SVJ if you are interested?
@@tomi-auto I'd be mad to say no! My email is talk@jayemm.com
JM. You’ve made a few comments now about don’t use them in Auto mode. Id be quite keen to watch exactly what happens when you do. Especially the old Ferrari boxes!
Only someone like jayemmm can not be massively blown away by a car like this because he sees past power
Just in time, I have just finished doing a detailed look on Aventador Ultimae, and my neck and shoulder will never recover from being snapped after I tried wedging myself behind the wheel.
Always loved the look of the Aventador SV. Would never own one. Think the Aventador is way to wide.
I prefer the looks of the early Aventadors personally.
I’d like to thank you for taking the time to speak to me today at Beaulieu. I look forward to cars you mentioned that you will soon be reviewing
I love Lamborghini ❤thank you for this video. Great intro with awesome sound!
The two best colors for this one are orange and green 👍. Any chance of reviewing the new Diablo? 🔥
Great videos, just recently got into your channel. As a Huracan owner, I really do think it is the better car. I track mine quite aggressively, and it really comes to life on a racetrack. Much easier to live with (I drive mine almost every day during the summer) and the transmission is far better. If you could squeeze the V12 into the Huracan, that would have been the ultimate package
In a supercar garage, there has to be a Gintani SV(J)!! Just has to. For looks and sound. Only alternative is a manual lp640 with a fabspeed exhaust.
I am with you on every word. Especially in terms of the subjectivly better looks of the LP-700/4.
Thanks!
@@JayEmmOnCars Well, thank you! Your objective yet passioned review of the "fridge cool" DB9 made me pull the trigger to finally buy my verry own and therefore changing my life. Been the best car related channel back in 2016 and ever since! Kind regards from Wilhelmshaven, Germany!
Danke :)
Lamborghini, definitely cool! Loud, gorgeous bodies and somewhat obnoxious styling? Which I love. I can't do Aventador problems though. I like their cars but, with my current location being Michigan with terrible roads, it's just not worth it for me to own something like this. I drive a Supra, and it does just fine. I can beat on it, and not worry about it setting my neighbors hedges afire. Good luck to anyone who owns one. If the Huracans replacement gains a touch more headroom, maybe then I can take a serious look?
Of course I've never been inside of one, but -
...but I think they had a good point at Throttle House about the gear changes.. "it's reloading the Howitzer"
Seems supercar-y to me
Sum up of today's episode:
JayEmm terrorizes sleepy villages with a big orange Lamborghini
And failed at reviewing it.
At 6ft 5" tall,it almost makes me glad I can only afford my fiesta and not miss out on a lambo☹️
I also believe the early cars are the best looking design, same as the R8 👍
I would rent this car but for less money I go for the Porsche for a purchase because nobody would take pictures and follow you or ask you questions about your car 😊
Amazing machine! I enjoy watching your reviews. Thank you Jay! 🙏🏼
Good timing coming home to this after seeing you at Beaulieu today James. Great to see your Ferrari in action! I spotted you and was about to come and say hello but you had to move your car.
You see why Jay Kay loves them in music videos
cringe
I've a 4C. That also has a carbon fibre tub. Unfortunately, Alfa blew the budget on that. So much they could have done better. Don't really care tho' - it's always a blast to drive
If an Aventador can't put a smile on your face... Then there is something probably wrong with your face....
Put a dress on it, charge 2 million for it and you have the new countach
The last lambo I liked the look of was the diablo, everything since then has gone all "atomic insect" looking as jay leno would say
Hey Jay !!! Love the S!.. But a very special Car you should get your hands On Should be a Lotus Esprit Sport 300. If it’s even Possible!!
Es hat soviel Spaß gemacht, das Auto zu fahren, aber nicht, weil es schnell ist sondern weil es schön ist ❤❤
I “know” a guy that have a lot of experience with cars, as you do, and have driven all aventadors, even the SVJ. He said that the SV is the best one, but he didn’t explained the reason, it was more an emotional connection. So, I ask you to review an SV next and check if this is accurate
What gets me is that Porsche and Lamborghini are owned by the same company, Audi, so why didn’t they use the Porsche PDK here which seems much better?
Seriously like your New Hair Cut and Dry Hair Styling. Now to the video, great as usual. You never disappoint...
Fantastic looking car! Loved the engine noise, but the pops & crackles did get annoying. Strange with Audi ownership, so little interior space. Oh to own one!
Thanks J! 🙏
Crackles are avoidable, its how u use throttle and drive
Also different modes have different amounts
Love those cars, they’ve got character and the epitome of the Aventador lineup is definitely the SVJ
Even though I only ever hear bad things about driving aventadors, a SV roadster is still my all time dream car 😂😂
And that's what it is all about
Hope you do the Lambo 4x4 soon. Allegedly, Mason Mount's egg yolk yellow Lambo in Cobham, Surrey today was amazing to look at. But is it any good?
Engine, gearbox and chassis of a Cayenne or RS Q8. What more do you need to hear ?
…and Sir Jay’s word of the day today isssss?????
…”Inexplicably!”
Ive counted 7 times?
My absolute favourite car of all time!
Shame they never upgraded to DCT. Really sad to hear these were in batman spec, really terrible in the dark lines you cannot see all the lines and curves. Awesome video. Keep up the good work.
I think the main reason they never put a DCT in it is because it simply had no space for it 😅
If any car makes sense with that transmission it's a Lamborghini. But now that more advanced transmission tuning and technologies are out, they could probably make a pretty similar DCT.
I thought it was because there wasn’t a DCT available at the time that could handle the torque
well maybe in 2011 that was true but the aventador has been out for ages now and should have gotten a DCT years ago. especially cars like the svj that are literally for the track
I am not saying it can't be judged on such road when you comparing it like for like with other cars, but I think it would come back to it's own on Riviera motorway, or some Italian road where police will stop you for driving too slow.
currently have a 5008 GT diesel auto, sounds smoother than that up or down on the paddles
It’s mostly bought by people who want to be seen and want to be heard. If you like that and you really like driving you get a Ferrari
The accelerator pedal is from a Mk 5-6 Golf.
Cheers!
The looks and sounds are quite agreeable.
The cars alright but north Essex is looking great.
They should've fitted it with a modified version of the veyron's gearbox
That front number plate couldn’t be much more illegal.
You wouldn't think a car like that would need contrived pops and cracks from the exhaust
Countach is timeless, looks like a spaceship still. The aventodor looks nice, but it is no spaceship
If an Aventador…any Aventador doesn’t put a smile on your face I don’t know what will…
It’s called “car reviewer disease”…all of them eventually catch it
All the best to everyone
An aventador in person has such a presence
A very impractical car
I sometimes daily my ferrari its pretty comfortable
A lambo perhaps not lol
For all her faults (any variant) I would still love to have one, especially the SVJ.
"that one of my cameras is going to go WEEEEEEEEEEE straight past me" LMAO that caught me off gaurd
i'd love to see reviews on the sv and svj as well. you did a great job on this and explained some of the technical bits way better than I've ever seen!
If 5 & 7-Series BMWs can have Carbon core than Aventador and similar supercars must have it.
Lp700 and SV should have been the only Aventador. The others are trash but svj sounds good straight piped and the gearbox bangs
Great review 👍😃
Perhaps it's imperfect perfection.
The performante and sto versions of the huracan don't do it for you? High maintenance much?!
I wonder if it s possible to "reverse" the Aventador gearbox into a manual one as done on BMW E46 M3 SMG
Unlikely as no manual Aventador ever existed, so putting in the shift lever etc would be almost impossible
The Diablo SV is better
Slower
More awkward (especially when you're 6ft 6)
But somehow its ... well .. better!
Who cares about the faults!! It’s a lambo V12 in orange it’s stunning
I noticed a fer cars lately in really tasty lush colours and it made the whole car park look dull & grey. Now if you are in England anyway dull & grey is available most of the time - so why get your car that colour? But in a lovely Lambo it seems crazy to do so.
Can't please everyone.
It's amazing the reality of these lambos but we value them so much and they make so much money from a sub-standard product.
Not a patch on the murci
Boy, if a person does not get the "feel" for this car in this video, they are def, dumb and blind. Gorgeous car, tad out of my price range. Thanks.
Sounds amazing still
I'd like to see a vid on a SV, SVJ, Ultimae
Is the camera angle or is the engine not symmetrically mounted in the bay?...or the strut braces?
Aventadors have the engine 2cm to the left to make room for the prop shaft for the AWD system.
@@Aron-ru5zk ah thank you!
Now the S ? If you test every Single aventador version this series will be 100 episodes 😂😂
They made too many. 11465 To be exact.
And i'm just waiting for the price to drop like a rock. Those cars are not rare.
Aventador owners are not aloud an opinion unless their car is fully straight piped.
why would u want a lamborghini to be better? u want it to be crazier. Get a v10 if you want to get in and drive. All aventadors need fire spitting straight pipes and ridiculous bodykits, oetherwise go back to a murcie. The S is too quiet, good basis to start all the modifications
Love your shirts!
Thankyou!
That oven tandoor is cooking!!
But I drove it, and it didn't put a smile on my face - so what do you want me to do, lie?
Truthsayer !!!! Burn the witch .......
Definitely prefer the look of the original.
Never realised 10k was a small number let alone rare!!!
2:43 "You mention Aventador, and people are quick to point out that it used what Lamborghini called an Independent Shifting Rod gearbox, in other words....."
.....a stupid flappy-paddle gearbox. =D
This aventador has been spec'd badly, no interior carbon at all... like wise for the Huracan. I'd like to see you review a Huracan Performante or Aventador SVJ
Never liked the look of the triple exhaust on the S.
The SVJ SV and Ultimae are way overpriced just for a body kit and tune
the S is perfect because the LP700 had to many problems and the other models are just overpriced
