Just bought a Genesis Coupe 3.8 Ultimate for $18,000. I know it sounds pricey, but it’s been extremely well taken care of with a lot solid aftermarket improvements like a catback performance exhaust, ceramic coating, etc. It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made
You can get the older SRT trim chargers for around 12-17k depending on mileage. I believe the earlier models were around 450hp.
The Genesis shares the tigershark platform. Just like the Evo x and caliber SRT. They're very similar.

Still a solid list 2 years later, sucks that the prices are getting driven up due to covid now. I ended up getting a 2017 Elantra Sport w/ DCT as my daily when I had to replace my '03 TL Type-S and I'm loving it. Looks great, handles well, and it has enough power to be fun.

I'm not even joking. I'm taking auto tech right now at my high school and a teacher needed an alternator to be replaced in her 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. The alternator was so hard to get to that the car didn't leave until right before winter break. It took us a month to get the damn thing out and replace it and it was torturous. Yet then again I'm still a rookie when it comes to the mechanical element of cars so if you have a different experience with Hyundai then good for you but for now until convinced otherwise I am avoiding Hyundai .

I love my E46 330ci and that only cost me $3500. It still looks fresh and it absolutely loves to rev high around the corners. Its even better because I live in an area full of tight cornering and hills and its also generally secluded from busy streets and towns so even a normal drive from home to wherever I'm going can turn into something exciting. If I could pick one more car that was affordable and fun I'd try to find an E39 540i (I'd like an M5, but they're too expensive) or an E38 740i. Both are fun to mod and will have more power than my 330ci (but also more weight, lol).

If you still can't afford a Hyundai Genesis Coupe, you could get its predecessor, the Hyundai Tiburon. I got an 07 Tiburon base model (Inline 4, 136 hp) for $6300 counting the radio I had to replace.

Kelly's E92 M3 no, 1st gens can be anywhere from 6k to 12k, 2nd gens are a bit more pricey from 13k to 17k, so the price isn't far off from the ST.

i am glad to see the charger on this list as it is my favorite car (well the second gen anyway) but i would like to say that although the Hyundai genesis is a wonderful car if you want an even cheaper option you could go for the Hyundai tiburon (it is basically the genisis' grandpa). you can get it with the 2.0 Lt 4 cylinder or the GT which has a 2.7 Lt v6. i have a 2007 tiburon GT with a 5 speed manual (you can also get it with a 4 speed auto) and it is an awesome car. you can find them on craigslist for anywhere between 2000 bucks to 5000 bucks. very affordable, reliable, and decently fast with a 0-60 time of just under 7 seconds.

I just totaled my Genesis Coupe 3.8 and I about to close on a MK7 Golf GTI with the performance and lighting package. Gotta say I'm pretty happy about the whole thing. I loved my genny but it was plagued with problems from day 1. I learned a lot about cars from it and it provided me with a good platform to join the car enthusiast community. I'm not crazy about your thoughts on the GTI, however you are entitled to your opinion and I agree with you that the Gencoupe 3.8 is one of the best platforms to get started on.

If you want to include the wrx, you could probably put just about every impreza generation minus the current one under it. I bought a used 3rd gen outback sport for less than $6000 and because wrx/sti models are just higher trim levels, their aftermarket support gets passed along to the lower trim outback sport. Good video my dude.
