I BUSTED out laughing. ‘My quilt is gonna be pretty. It might come apart.”
It’s funny, I don’t mind the bulk on these types of quilt blocks. They’re part of the classic charm to me. Yet I love the hints that you give Kimberly. I love the unity and diversity of this quilting group!❤
Great tutorial as always. Thank you for everything you do!
I really enjoyed today’s video!
Kimberly and her team do a wonderful job!
I look forward to seeing everything that is new and upcoming!
Have a great weekend 🧵🧵🧵🪡🪡🪡
I have been waiting for this tutorial and wasn’t disappointed. I like the idea of leaving g off the middle piece and making a circle and sewing it on separate.
This is great but I wish you would do this same sort of video for other quilt alongs. I would have loved to see the quilted witch blocks made before each date so I could see it before I made it. I bought the paper kit to go with the witch but I wasn’t sure when to use them. This would also be useful in the petit four quilt along. I am sure that seeing these blocks made would encourage more people to participate and finish the quilt along projects.
Cutting off the bulk was brilliant! Thank you Kimberley for great tips It can be used in many applications.
Boy that iron is amazing
Thanks for posting this Kimberly, I've been waiting for it. I made the Vintage Kite Quilt, sixty 6" kites. I made similiar changes, and many different changes. After about block 40, I had it down to a much faster and more precise outcome. I thought about posting but it is a long description. I'd be happy to write it out and email the changes for your consideration. Been holding onto my sunburst paper pads for this viedo. Thought I might make one 12" block in Christmas colors, as a practice. Thanks for the tip on leaving off the corners on the 8" for the quilt, as that would also work on the 12" single block as wallhanging, with 1" inner border and 2" outside border to make a 18" wall hanging wreath for my front door. Hope your Easter is joyous and life giving.
Thank you so much for this video. Your filming of every step helps me soooo much. You are an awesome instructor!
Sew excited, have had a lot going on that's kept me too busy to watch many videos - didn't know this paper existed. Glad I caught this, ordering paper now, always wanted to try sunburst block but too intimidating. Love that shirt Kimberly.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this tutorial! I hadn't started yet, and was second-guessing myself for wanting to make this quilt due to the numerous complaints that I read online regarding the bulky seams. I now feel confident that I can make this quilts without those issues.
Kimberly, thank you for ALL that you do! During Covid I found you and have learned how to quilt like an expert…all thanks to you and your team! I have a Juki TL-15 and want to know about the table shown in this video and is it solid enough not to vibrate/shake when you sew fast and hard. TYIA! ❤❤❤❤FQS!!!!
Kimberley, this is phenomenal. A++++ You covered every little step/movement. Well done!
Thanks Kimberly, I love how you are showing us more challenging block and better ways to execute them. I’m not a beginner quilter and I love to be challenged.
Awesome reinvented tutorial...beautiful blocks...thanks...best wishes❤❤
Hi Kimberly, thanks for all of the great tips. I really like the top you have on.
Golly, what a challenge! Love seeing how to break the rules to get the best possible result! Can’t wait to see how you quilt it…tight quilting will help minimize the risk of it coming unsewn!🤣 It sure is a beauty, though!❤
What a great idea, I’ve always had trouble with bulk, your the best for sure, thank you
Thanks for showing us this technique. To know what size to cut the fabric for the different sections is awesome. Rather than guessing !
Thank you so much for this. I’m going to join this just because you showed how to do this!
You can also use the Acorn glue to hold that center triangle to keep it from shifting.
Love piecing this quilt. I find I am so focused that all the problems of the day disappear when piecing this block. I open all the seams with the paper still on. I do match the pin dots and find the bulk is minimal. I will need another pad of paper because mistakes along the way. Thank you for the tip to but the middle piece on first!
Wow that was a lot, I'm exhausted for you! Great job!
that is a big difference , I really appreciate all your effort and sharing with us !❤🧡💛💚
Hi from Austria! When will the first books in pdf Format be available?
I am 50% done using the old technique. I am going to continue with the technique you showed us in this tutorial. It is much better and can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing. By the way, I love the process of making this quilt.
So glad you did this tutorial. I have the papers and have been nervous about making these blocks. These tips are great and I will certainly use them when I start my quilt. Thanks for all you do! 💕
Fantastic video!! I had been wait for this one to be posted! Such a great way to simplify how to piece and press this block. Thank you so much Kimberly and crew!!!
Thanks for sharing this technique! Question, would the snipping of the corners in the seam allowances cause a problem later for those of us who wash our finished quilts or do not starch in the beginning? I’d be concerned that the shrinkage of fabric in that first contact with water might cause the seams to open in the finished quilt because the seam allowance is almost nothing in those spots where the units are sewn together. Hope my question makes sense.
Excellent tutorial
I get what you were trying to do Kimberly to reduce the puffy bulk in centre .......As a person who has done several paper piecing quilts - I would not using this method for paper piecing. (I am not an expert - just enjoy paper piecing) When you have a 2 inch square piece that has 6 different fabrics needed in that space, if you tried this method you would have no fabric left to attach anything to. My experience spray some starch just on the seams of the block, place iron on on seams for 10-15sec lift then place a clapper on the seam and leave until very cool, helps a lot with seams getting flatter. With a large paper pieced project you cannot get away from having some bulky seams.
As always, it's a great informative video! Loved your blocks and tips! Thank you, Kimberly
BEAUTIFUL!
Fascinating project. I would need to have paper and fabric in hand for a total understanding (for myself.) Thanks for the tutorial. I can see how trimming the seams would help with the flatness of the center.
And thank you for a wonderful video!!!
Such a pretty block!!! You are so talented Kimberly!!!
Wow! You are so precise! Nice job explaining and demonstrated! We appreciate your time and effort that you put into your tutorials! I think I'm going to try this with batiks and a black background! Probably will send me to the looney bin but I always make things harder on myself!
I am so happy to see this video. My test block was a disaster... I had the bulk in the center and I just couldn't get it flat. Thanks for your fabulous tips... I will now make another using this technique. 👍
Thank you for demonstrating the block and sharing your techniques. Love that iron system.
This was very helpful!
Very helpful. Thank you. Happy Easter❤
That is a fabulous tutorial to sew a very challenging quilt block! I want to run into my sewing room and try one... it will probably become a bowl, but I'd love to try it!
Bravo! Bravo!
I just got a box from FQS today and I can’t remember if I ordered the papers for this block or not. And no, I haven’t had a chance to open it - yet😁😁😁😁
An excellent instructional video! Such a good teacher! Would also like to see more cross stitch instructional videos too! Pittsburgh, PA
That is a beautiful quilt block with the perfect fabric. I have paper pieced a 3” 6 pointed star block. That center was also tricky to manage and keep perfectly aligned, I think one of 12 was just right on mine. Thanks for the debunking tips.
Thank you for sharing.
Great video!
I like this version of the Sunburst from the Creative Grids 30 degree ruler. much easier to be precise. Your blouse is gorgeous!
Great job, Emma!!🎉❣️🫡✊🏻
Great instructions
Very good tutorial. Thank you!
Your tips are amazing! Now I’m thinking of trying this block.
Good morning from sunny Delaware!
Really really appreciate your further instructions on this block. I think brillant your "new inventive" way. I use all the FQS foundation paper. Quite awhile ago you once stated you press open flying geese foundation but stated it was too complex...maybe we have progessed enough to show that way.😊 thank you for this video.will save.
Good mornin from SoCal
Yes please, show the contrary wife block instructions. I love these
Good morning from Gold Canyon ,AZ
Wow, this is similar to the 8 point pinwheel block I just made, but I can see how you would need to do the FPP for this 12 point block. So pretty!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have the paper, but I’ve been a chicken about using it. You made it look so easy🎉
I’m still deciding whether I’m,Ike to press seams open or to the side - I’ve done both and pressing open can be tricky!!!
Hello! We're having a beautiful day in Northeast Georgia.
Good morning from Idaho
Hi, from Prattville, Alabama.
I use to live there! Loved it and miss it so much! Beautiful place! 🩵🌸
I’m using sashing and cornerstones so I have little churn dash in the corners
I picture YoYo’s in the center circles. I think I’d prefer that over the intersection of all those seams.
Me too! I have no problem with hand appliquéing a complete center circle though as I love hand work! But a Yo-Yo would be really cute, too!
Your attention to detail is impressive! Would you ever consider tackling a Mariners Compass? I have been struggling with creating a single 16”-18” block for a small topper for a sailboat. I can find no pattern, so must adapt what I am finding online. Your tips will be helpful as I try to pick it up again after taking a break!
Hi from Lansdale Pa
One thing you can do to lesson the bulk, on the area near the center, rotate your seams so they will nest. I myself would treat it like a dresden and applique the center circle. Problem solved.
Thank you for this video...very helpful...do you have a cutting guide for the fat quarters or cutting tips for the best use of the fat quarters in order to get the fabric cut for this quilt? Thank you so much...
Hello Susan! No, we do not have a cutting guide for this quilt.
I absolutely love the foundation papers you all create!! Will the papers for this block ever be available in single pads instead of this kit? ❤
Hello Sheri! Yes, all of our foundation paper is available here www.fatquartershop.com/quilting-notions/paper-piecing-notions?notion_manufacturer=5922
Barbie here, Good morning from Arizona!
I love this. Are these new directions written up in pdf form so we can print it out to keep with our papers?
Hello Sharyn! No, these instructions are only available in this video not PDF format.
So - if someone wanted to appliqué a center circle is read if the piecing, we would need to omit thst bottom piece of the pattern? Right? Then out the block pieces together and add the center circle before squaring up??? I know a couple ways to make the full circle - one that could add a bit of stability to the center - hmmmm!!
Have you considered making foundation papers printed on freezer paper?
“Those gray hairs are pretty!!,” says the gray haired lady!
What a difference it makes. What quarter inch foot do you use and I find a lot are not accurate. Happy Easter xx
Hello Angela! Kimberly uses the 1/4" foot that came with her Juki
@@FatQuarterShopTX thank you xx
❤
Do you feel that using your better iron that the press is a lot better especially for this block?
Hello Teresa! Yes, her new iron is a lot better than her previous irons.
I wish I had seen this video before I made 8 of each block. Is there anyway to fix what I have already done to get rid of some bulk?
Hello Diane! Unfortunately there is not.
What was the new blue fabric made for FQS that matched a certain fabric design .. it was mentioned in previous live ... ?
Hello Heidi! Are you asking about the Nantucket blue or the Strawberry Lemonade blue?
@@FatQuarterShopTX i think Nantucket .. does it match new shoreline also?
Yes it does!
Good morning
Is this the same block using the 30 degree Starburst ruler?
Hello Cynthia! No, but it is similar.
Did you starch your fabrics before starting piecing?
Hello Ruth! Yes, Kimberly starches before she cuts her fabric.
I love this pattern
I think that I’m now just a bit intimidated about doing this block😳😳
You can do it!
Waiting for it's sew emma wedding ring fountain paper.* Hint hint* or paper piecing pattern.
Kimberly, thank you for ALL that you do! During Covid I found you and have learned how to quilt like an expert…all thanks to you and your team!
