If it's popular, people will watch and it will make money. If it's not popular...it fails. There are plenty of men's activities that fail as well, for example American football leagues that try to compete with the NFL. Businesses, run by men or by women, fail all the time.
In short, you can't make people like something. Fair and unfair have absolutely nothing to do with it.
I'm a former Chippendales dancer, and all of us knew full well that we probably werent gonna make as much as female exotic dancers. Not even as much as the top female dancers in small, hole in the wall rural strip clubs in some cases. And Chippendales has been the number one male entertainment show in the world for decades. Don't get me wrong, we were paid very well, especially when u factor in the chippendales calendars and other merch that was sold at each show. But we never whined about wanting a raise, or demanded that we get paid as much as the top female dancers. Men are just willing to pay a lot more to see women dance, than vice versa. And We totally understood this.

ESPN pushes the WNBA hard ... including lots of TV advertising. But when you watch the games themselves, they're not very good when compared to the NBA. The WNBA has been around for 27 years ... if they haven't been able to generate enough interest after 27 years to become self-sufficient, they're never going to.

Here’s the biggest difference btwn men and women’s sports. Participation. I played baseball, football and kick boxing. Hence I watch football and boxing/UFC regularly. I watched baseball for 20 years but that has since stopped. That’s something marketing can’t overcome.

For me, this story is more about the media where you always have to be positive and encouraging toward women. I don't think women believe that men betrayed the WNBA or any women's sports. Why would they, they don't care about that. Some groups appearing in the media give us this impression. The Media don't want to receive any complaints, so they can't even say what Bill is saying that most women's sports don't sell tickets that's why they are not paid as much.
Bill didn't dare to say that women aren't nearly as good and exciting to watch than men in many sports, especially in the case of the WNBA and soccer. I'm pretty sure I would have said it in 2012 he didn't give a shit... Women's tennis and golf for example are fine. I like women tennis as much as Men tennis. But even when the Canadian female soccer was winning the gold medal at the Olympics, I couldn't help to think they were pretty bad. Think about it, 2 of the best female soccer teams in the world are the US and the Canadian... Two countries that are historically bad at soccer.

This is a discussion that will never end, and it will never end because nobody talks about the truth. The truth is Men and women alike want equality, but when they achieve it, its never what they expect or envisioned it being, which just annoys them further. The reason he grinds your gears a little is because, as you say, he is right, which ultimately proves you wrong, and nobody likes being corrected (me included!). If we humble ourselves, admit our flaws and work together it would be different, but conflict is basic human behavior for both men and women, hence the reason it will never end. Peace Out!

Great reaction! But I will point out that Ash has the advertising aspect backwards; ads go to where the eyes are and there are no eyes on the WNBA and mind you, the WNBA has been around for nearly 3 decades and is heavily advertised by not only the NBA but legacy institutions like ESPN.
Its hard for some people to read they like to act like parrots instead. Life is easier if you use tribal aspects like group identity then it to create your own. In conclusion, these type of people only change when the crowd changes.
ESPN, The Athletic, Sports Illustrated etc are constantly trying to push the WNBA. The funny thing is when the talking heads who complain about it go on rants about supporting the WNBA, yet they themselves never do and their personal social media accounts are plastered with attending NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL etc games and events, but absolutely nothing with the WNBA.
The US Womens National team went to court because they wanted to make the same amount as men. However, after doing the math, it was found our Women's National Team actually made more money than the men's team and the judge dismissed the case. Nate the Lawyer does an amazing breakdown if you are interested. It is amazing, and pisses me off to see, because i support the original cause, but they got greedy.

People watch the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL because the men are highly skilled athletes and, as a result, are far more entertaining. A bunch of 15 year old boys blew out the USA Women's Soccer Team in an exhibition (FC Dallas U-15 boys academy team) 5-2 in 2017. Serena Williams got blown off the court in an exhibition against a male player ranked 200th or thereabout). If the WNBA can't stand on it's own, it shouldn't exist.
You can advertise anything you want if people don’t show up it doesn’t matter it’s a waste of advertising.
I've never met or heard of a single person who started watching a sport because they saw an ad.
My favorite sport (Motocross/Supercross) only advertises during the televised races, there is zero advertisement outside of that. And yet it still pulls in more money than it spends. The top pros get multimillion contracts. It's not a mainstream sport at all, and probably has less advertisement than the WNBA, but it still makes money.

I love that women do sports as do many Americans. The honest truth is the physicality of men's sport is on a whole other level. A prime example is when the U.S. women's national team (best in the country) played soccer against a team of under 15 year old boys and lost 5-2... to children... who probably hadn't even finished puberty...
And then there's that video of the female soccer player that did a kick off on a football game and it only went like 20 yards.

She gave a list of games: chess, darts, ballet etc and tried to classify them as sports. Sports take some physical prowess. Some games take skills, but typing is a skill too. 😎
In over a hundred countries chess is considered a sport (and 24 out of 28 in the EU). Oddly enough not in the UK, even though that's one of the few countries that does consider darts a sport. Ash was wrong however on chess being an Olympic sport: the chess federation is recognized by them, but it's not part of the actual games. Ballet is indeed not considered a sport, since it's lacking a competitive element.
Tbf being a professional dancer, especially in ballet, takes a lot of physical prowess. That said, yeah, ballet isn't a sport, it's a non-competitive performance. But with competitive ballet routines, it'd definitely be able to qualify. Look at rhythmic gymnastics and figure skating.
What’s interesting about the argument of “they don’t show womens sports as much as men sports” is that there are magazines, television programs, online accounts and advertising you can see, if you actually had any interest in it you will find places where it’s shown and praised… I mean social media alone is a way u can see the things u care about…. no the women earned about 3.2ish million from dropping out at final 16. they walked home with 7 million. the men dropped off at round of 16 and made about 13.5ish million and walked home with 7 million. the rest went to us soccer. they r stealing from the men
the original deal the women wanted was based on guaranteed pay while turning down the deal the men get which is based on results (high risk high reward). the women after winning last wc whined that they wouldve made more if they chose the other deal and the judges ended up giving them the mens deal, except the women get extra benefits

The main types of people that watch the WNBA, according to some reporter that works for some sports website (been a while since I've seen it, maybe it was OutKick), are older men that prefer their more fundamental style of play and families , ideally ones that have a daughter who plays. But I've noticed that ESPN has been bending over backwards to promote women's basketball the past three years, they blew the Angel Reese-Caitlyn Clark dust-up way out of proportion too.

Most women don't recognize the extreme talent gap between the men playing basketball and women. Literally, a decent highshcool boys basketball team would absolutely FLEECE the best WNBA team, it's not even close. The first WNBA game I watched as a kid, I was absolutely floored by the amount of misses per shot. Most people don't bother watching a league that looks like a bunch of toddlers competing compared to the men's league.

the thing about a GOOD comic is it tells a truth we are afraid to talk about using humor. It gives us a chance to examine ourselves.
She would have a tremendous point about the advertising if it weren't for one small thing. They don't advertise things that nobody is interested in. You generally have to show them you're valuable. Men's sports didn't just start as this lucrative juggernaut. I'm pretty sure every one of them came from meager beginnings, guys who worked second jobs kind of meager.
They worked and struggled and showed advertisers they had a good product. Advertiser's aren't seeing that from the WNBA (for whatever reason...and there are reasons lol).
