Nothing is scarier in vintage racing than a C1 on steelies. Telltale sign of "I've had 3 7&7s, half a pack of Marlboro Golds, and I have no fucks left to give."
Man, I love this. My father has a white '61 with a 327. We actually know Lance Miller, the man who owns the No. 3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette which raced at Le Mans. I think C1 corvettes get overlooked as racers because of the later big blocks, but I imagine back in the day were used pretty extensively by amateurs. Cool interior, very accurate, and great video as always.
I just started getting back into Sim racing after my dad passed in February. He was a mechanic. He used to help me with NR2003 setups years ago when it first came out. I came across your channel and I absolutely enjoy all of your content. Your narration of the history and cars is truly wonderful and engaging. Thank you so much for your videos.
I just went down the Marlboro Raceway rabbit hole a few weeks ago. Saw it mentioned in some driver wiki I was reading, was surprised I had never heard of it before. Then I wondered if it had ever been recreated in any sim. Well now I know.
Discovered your channel just a few weeks ago and I really enjoy your videos, especially on the vintage race cars content. It’s obvious that you are very passionate about this and it makes watching your videos super enjoyable
These videos are awesome and information packed. This channel has sent me down so many rabbit holes. This era came before me but man if this was happening today I'd be glued. Nice wheel.
This was so fun to watch! 🤩 As someone pointed out already, the outside shots were super cinematic, great action. Funnily enough, I indeed feel that the erratic AI really added immersion and excitement instead of taking it away lol And the rain drops in the end were the icing on the cake of a super interesting race :) It's of course extremely unsafe irl, but really cool visually that you can see the cars coming down in the other part of the track.
I really love the setup with the faster cars at the back of the grid... that way we et lots of opponent variation and the race keeps you honest for the whole time.
Funny you mentioned Yenko. My dad was friends with him and told about one time Don asked if he wanted Montreal Steaks, his treat. Next thing my dad knew he was shoved (my dad was that scared of flying they had to physically force him on the plane lol) onto Don's plane and they actually went to Montreal lmfao. What a baller. They tried to get my dad on the plan that night too when tragedy struck. He sounded like a great guy.
@@jackarmstrong7285 It would probably be the drifting mecca of the Mid-Atlantic, as it's quite Japanese in the way it crams a bunch of corners and switchbacks into a small area like Ebisu or Yamanashi.
Lovely video! And you’re a very talented driver, hat off! I did a recreation of the 1965 Spa 500km today in the Ferrari 330P with an accurate grid and know how difficult these cars can be!!
Aah that lovely era of SCCA. Wish it was easier to research. A certain Mr. Miles was building and racing MGs, and a certain Mr. Shelby was building these strange small British sports cars and souping them up with engines from the Ford Motor Company
Neat little track, with entertaining racing. Those Corvettes look HUGE in comparison to the Maserati racers - although I very much doubt the Mazzers are renowned for their rallycross capacities.
It should be noted that his is the 2nd "style" for the Corvette, the "scoop-side" 'Vette, as opposed to the 1953-55 original, with the Blue Flame, 6-cylinder engine. Gotta say, I quite like those Maserati Tipo 61 "Birdcages" on the grid there. I will note, the USAC RRC got started in 1958, and was another Sports Car racing series. Of course, another track that had quite the layout for folding back on itself that was around back then was Interlagos down in Brazil (opened in 1940). Just looking, and maybe K missed something, but is there not a mod for an old Thunderbird to fill out American contingent a bit more? (Of course, what would really be great is mods of some of the signature Sports Racer specials like the Scarab, Cunningham, etc.) I also expect there would have been some Ferrari 250s or something floating around in the SCCA races of that period, to say nothing of the Jags and Astons. And I think Carroll Shelby was one of those wheeling around a Maserati 450S 5.7 (570S). Of course, I think Langhorne was kind of the ultimate oval without a real straight. That was just a bit optimistic by the Maser there. This probably isn't the first rack I'd pick to run myself, but I'm glad it's in AC, nonetheless. I guess, now we just need Sergio to do Bryar. Jeez, that got more than a little ragged there on the penultimate lap.
Amazing content you’ve been releasing recently my guy, would you be interested to make a 1970 Le Mans video? I’d be nice to see a good old 917 vs 512 race
I need to learn how to mod Assetto Corsa likes this... your videos look like so much fun. Could anyone point me towards a good tutorial on how to mod this game?
How did you tweak the AI to get the Maserati to fight with you like that? My AI acts like its insurance fee is high enough as it is and cant afford even the smallest of claims
11 days later , Spain Wonder the Euros , im the proudest Spaniard here boys ( sorry to post something that has 0 relation with the video but i got to do it sorry guys, btw, thats a really good track to make an Super Special Stage for RBR )
i enjoy your videos, but i used to love your videos before you got rid of the in game wheel and added your irl camera. Its fine in your live streams but when presented in your videos that are trying to be educational and immersive i just cant stand it for more then a couple minutes. A digital telemetry would be fine but the foot pedal and wheel feels to me like a thorn in my eye. Especially with the lack of an in game wheel id beg you too revert it but its your channel so do as you please. edit: honestly my ideal setup would be the motion camera from the 1939 mercedes mod you used in your tripoli video but even i know thats too far for most lol
2 uploads in 3 days??? LETS GOO MORE GPLAPS

GPLaps is back with multiple uploads, it's like Christmas has come early!
Jackie Stewart won a 12-hour race here in a Lotus Cortina just before starting his f1 career.

Cool to finally see this place. Allan Moffat was another of the big names to race there, back in his early Trans-Am days in a Lotus Cortina.
Love the older car racing, reminds me of GT legends I used to play that game to death.
Trust GPLaps to provide the finest in classic sim-racing entertainment. Keep it up man, been watching since 2011.
Always nice going by the showplace arena and seeing the remains through the woods. Wish it was still around! Not too many race tracks in the DMV
I love the history lessons that accompany these videos. I know retro, but not _deep_ retro like this. wonderful.
I love the wheel you’re using! Takes me back to my boyhood XKE and Healey 3000 fantasies…
GPLaps on my birthday? Hell yeah I'll take it
Happy birthday mate!
@@TheOriginalStix thanks dude!
Happy bday!
@GPLaps Awesome video, really appreciate it!!
Happy Birthday man!
Nick Mason has a beautiful Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage in American colours of white with the double blue stripes. One of my favourite cars

Man I grew up in this part of Maryland, I'm familiar with Summit Point but I never knew this was even here. Thanks for the cool history lesson

Your downshift gas kick is an absolute work of art.
It's like an old movie car chase. Awesome!
Love the way that you r driving that old vette like it should be I was cheering as you steamed past the Porsches
Nice, not heard of Marlboro since Grand Prix Legends days....
I really like and appreciate how you interpret simracing
Only Jake can put out a video and make me wanna quit what I'm doing and get some Simracing done.
Hell I missed the summer cause it must be Christmas with 2 vids in 3 days. Great video. Keep them coming.
It's very cool to see a Corvette C1 doing a drifto. Nice. Thanks for the vid.

thank you for being the best channel on youtube!
Well, you learn something new every day. I didn't know we had a historical track in WV. Very cool factoid.
Cool, the odometer even works. Very nice! Those Maserati's are just to light and nimble, good racing though as usual!
I love that too! I noticed its in KM though, i need to figure that out
Nifty track, peachy-keen car, spiffin' race!
Keep 'em coming!
A shame Marlboro is abandoned..... it looks like it could still be an amazing track today!
Would probably be a great kart track tbh

@@tomanderson6335 Yeah that’s a good shout actually. Tell Jimmy Oakes to buy it Lmao (I think he’s the biggest TH-cam drift guy nearby)
Wow. Another Christmas gift from Jake!
That was cool ! Enjoyed the race and the cars.
Lovely.
Fun race to watch. That satellite view is sad, isn't it? Only the oval portion is apparent. The rest are just traces.
Another great video and some fine racing.
On man wish Sergio and FatAlfie tracks were available for AMS2
Lovely video! And you’re a very talented driver, hat off!

good lord you're alive
Freaky sweet Lois
The oval part reminds me of Oxford Plains
Fantastic!!!!
Keep 'em coming 💪
This car is so good
what a race
Nice! although I would have gone with a C2 as it was available in Morlboro Maroon, which is actually named for this track.
Neat little track, with entertaining racing. Those Corvettes look HUGE in comparison to the Maserati racers - although I very much doubt the Mazzers are renowned for their rallycross capacities.
The next historic track you should feature is Meadowdale Raceway
As usual another astonishingly good vid Jake! Who are the 4 numbnuts that disliked the video?
Love this!
Marlboro is finally in AC? Holy shit.
I just realized, me and gplaps wear the exact same shoes!
3:41 Assetto Corsa not having engine torque twisting the car while revving has always bothered me. The car just sits there so static.

You should do a community race on Assetto corsa. Would be awesome to race with you.
You should make the into for every video on the Internet
I'm building this track for GTR2 with BTB, but I can't get any information on how the pit lane works. Where do the cars enter and exit?
For vintage car racing would you say asseto corsa is the best sim?
I need to learn how to mod Assetto Corsa likes this... your videos look like so much fun. Could anyone point me towards a good tutorial on how to mod this game?
Search for how to mod Assetto Corsa in TH-cam
ITs still GPLAPS!
Ai Dirves like Lance Stroll LOL
Still better than Mazepin AI...
Can you imagine the penalties if you used modern track limits 😂
How did you tweak the AI to get the Maserati to fight with you like that? My AI acts like its insurance fee is high enough as it is and cant afford even the smallest of claims
when you finish a lap there is a popup. what mod is that?
