NOTYCAT PANTERA: Twin-Turbo 1971 DeTomaso Push-Button Pantera | EP35

- It's definitely a naughty cat. Handcrafted in Turin, Italy, one of just 383 made, the now heavily-modified NOTYCAT widebody twin-turbo 1971 DeTomaso Push-Button Pantera shocks purists while captivating Ford enthusiasts. Under the hood, a 351 Cleveland vintage iron-block V8 has been meticulously bored and stroked to 408 cubic inches, adorned with twin turbos, twin intercoolers, twin fuel cells, twin throttle bodies, twin wastegates, twin blowoff valves, twin radiators, twin fans, and twin pumps. Product designer Shad Bruce lives by the mantra 'built, not bought,' and his creation is the most audacious Pantera we've seen. Nicole fulfills a lifelong dream while becoming the first person in Shad's nearly two decades of ownership to take the wheel, feeling her late father's approval echoed in a single word: Bitchin'.

What an amazing experience. True pros every step of the way. Thanks for sharing NOTYCAT with the world!
Shad! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to drive your Pantera, to meet you and Sandy, and to bond over our individual daddy-daughter moments. 🥰
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour Love that.... Memories forever! Go fast or go home!

What a machine
Nicole you are something else in every way

Jesus, the cockpit is like an F18 Hornet!!!. Wow!.
Mate, you built a wicked ride that reflects who you are. Built with heart and passion is always best.
I was the 17-year-old bus boy working late as Rod Stewart, and his "hottie" rolled in with a bright yellow Pantera. It made all the glasses in the restaurant shake with its thunderous exhaust. I told my co-workers, "someday I'll have one of those," my co-workers snickered back "yeah right." I worked my butt off, began a business that eventually became successful. One day, I realized that I had enough money saved to start looking. I found an incredible white 74 Pantera, my dream car.... It was worth the work.
Congratulations! You wanted it. You worked hard for it. You earned it.
I think those were relatively cheap for a short period of time until people realized their value, weren't they?
@@PuerRidcully I saw one on craigslist in california some years back for 40k
@@tsunamiiwinterz-px7oz
I saw a white one listed for $169,899 yesterday. I don’t know if it’s sold yet or not but it probably won’t fetch quite that much. According to the ad, it was meticulously and faithfully restored to better than new condition with the engine completely rebuilt. The ad listed all the details of the restoration and it was quite thorough.
That’s a lot of money but still significantly less than many other exotic cars while still quite a bit more than most of the later models.
There are a few models that are more sought after and more expensive than the Pushbutton models. It depends upon supply and demand, original equipment and what modifications it has. *(Contrary to what some people believe, there are some modifications which increase the value.)*
@@PuerRidcully my dad sold a pretty nice California only 73L for 22,000 in 1990 or so….im not sure if that was a good deal?
I could feel the genuine emotions from both Nicole and the owner through this video, what an absolute gem of a car!

@packrcch, you nailed it right there; the fact he kept his family and, got them to admire what his masterpiece Notycat Pantera (more like Chimera) is all about, is perfection!

Hi Nicole, Great job! Tom Tjaarda (charda) was a good friend of mine. He was born in Birmingham, Michigan of Dutch ancestry. Tom’s Dad John, designed the Lincoln Zephyr in the 37. Tom graduated from U of M in architecture and ironically an American, that designed an Italian car. His professor introduced him to Pininfarina later he became head of Ghia design studio when he designed the Pantera. He married an Italian wife and lived in Italy until he died. The design in the DeTomaso logo is an Egyptian “I” for Alexandro’s wife named Isabella.
Thank you so much for sharing with us...very interesting!!!
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour send me your email and I’ll forward pictures of Tom with my 1973 which I regret selling in 2004 for $36,000. I’m kicking myself now!
This needs more likes. Amazing story & info!
I’ve two teen girls that have seen me as a Dentist during the week and a wrencher on the weekends since they were born, and I couldn’t hold back the tears when Nicole remembered her dad.
That's so sweet...thank you for the comment!!
😪
You've given your girls an excellent example of how to balance a life. They'll carry that on with them for the rest of their lives.
The Pantera has Always been my bucket list Ride! At 59 yrs. of age, I'd like to think I can still make that a reality! Yours my friend is simply Incredible! Nice Job 😊👍🙌
I liked how she said he’s been talking to her a lot the day that she first saw this car. Totally know what she means ❤
This car is part sculpture, part mechanic's dream, part race car, part tribute to father and son bonding. This is a perfect car.
Father and daughter ❤
What a great video. At age 21 I traded my TransAm, my Honda 750 and everything I could scrape together to buy a two year old, 8k mi, Blue 72 Pantera. A dream come true that I experienced for the next seven years and led to many other special cars. I’m 70 now and to this day people still remember THAT CAR and what meant to them. Im still dreaming and driving.
NOTYCAT is a very special car. You can tell it was built from the heart. The heart of a lunatic. LOL. I love it.
Anybody who sheds a tear over a Pantera is okay with me. This one hit home. My Dad brought home his '72 Pantera when I was 8 years old in 1980. I still remember that night very clearly. I saw the headlights turn into the driveway and as he pulled into the garage, the windows shook. That's when I fell in love with that car. I lost my Dad several years ago, but I'm blessed to get a reminder of him everyday with his Pantera in my garage. I would normally be a little disappointed to see a highly modified '71 push-button car, but after seeing it, hearing it and listening to Shad Bruce talk about it, I get it. Well done.
Thank you so much for sharing with us...we love it!!
Dads and daughters. I'm not crying, you're crying. ❤❤
This isn't even a Pantera anymore... This is a work of art.
I felt every possible emotion watching this video. I even had tear in my eyes when he talked about the flower 🌸.
Yes. So did I.
Thank you so much for watching!!
A Pantera is the first car I drove at speeds over 120mph. I'm 74 years old now… and I remember every moment of that drive. NEVER had the same feeling again.
THANK YOU for finding this incredible guy and his car!
You're welcome...Thank you so much for watching!!
My first car at over 100mph was a '70 Merc Cougar w/a 351C w/4bbl heads FMX trans and a Posi rear end. I added headers. My dad gave me 2 broken cars before I bought the Merc. I was 16 when I bought it in 1977 for $700. It was so much fun watching the speedo needle bounce off the post at 120mph.
It’s funny how people thought that because the speedo said 200, it would do 200. I saw around 140 in mine several times on those Goodyear Ariva biased ply tires. He is right, the front end gets light. Took a guy for a ride when he asked if it would do 110 in third gear? I got a ticket that night.
"We turned off the power steering pump" is a phrase I have never heard. What a well thought out car !
everyday when i walked to school cali a guy with a pantera would drive by the school and we always ran to the fence and asked him to spin the wheels.. he did it every time found memories
Nicole thanks for showing Shad's amazing Engineering and Craftsmanship. You make your Dad's memory alive in every video.
You're welcome! We appreciate that!
LOVE the flower story. As a father to two daughters, his emotion hits very close to home.
Yes...that was very special!!! Thank you for the comment!!
An expression of who i am as a person. I can see it and feel it. As a 55 year old man that has loved the Pantera all my life. This man has built a beautiful updated version. I appreciate it
We couldn't agree more!!!
Wow, what a freakin beast! I'm 72, had Pantera posters all over the place, and I'm grinnin from ear to ear as I watch you guys blast down the road! The story behind the flower, and the words about your father are priceless! As always, great video, and great presentation Nicole! Thanks for that ride!
Nicole, that truly was Bitchin’! Thanks for taking us along for the ride, you rock!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the ride!!
A Pure Expression Of Automotive Art And Passion... I Was Getting A Lump In My Throat Too!! What A Machine!! So Happy For You, Nicole😁
Thank you so much!! We appreciate you watching!!
I have loved the DeTomaso since I can remember. Dad tearing up when explaining the flower was showing he is a true father with an obvious love of making something good into something great with a little cash. When Nicole is saying " Ok, ok ", you know its something very special.
You could feel the emotion in the interview portion, for sure. This car means a lot to him, and to you, too! Loved how humble he is, honestly, such a heart of gold on him.
For dream cars, I've always wanted a Dodge Viper SRT-10, the third generation. If you put two turbos on them, they make INSANE power with little effort.
The shared laugh after "there are people at work!" was priceless. Very cool he shared his unique car with you and your dad.
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!
Why can’t there be a heart button to push instead of a thumbs up? One of my all time favorite cars ever made. Amazing! I’ll be dreaming about this car tonight. Thanks Nicole!!!
Our pleasure!! Thank you so much for watching!!

Great video as always. The flower from his daughter and the connection with your Dad made this one extra special ♥️
Had tears in my eyes myself, watching this episode. Thank you to both of you guys!! ❤️
I have always wanted a Pantera since I was a kid. I would see one every now and then growing up and every single one would stop me in my tracks.
Nice!! Thanks for the comment!!
In 85, I was driving from Loveland Colorado to Estes Park and 8-10 Panteras passed me going up the canyon!
It just so happens they were going to a Pantera rally that day, so I followed them into town and checked it out. Nothing else sounds like a Pantera. My favorite car. That and a Sunbeam Tiger!
When I saw the both of you getting emotional I could tell this was a good experience for the both of you. Who cares if everything is original or not? The experience is what's important. The memories.
Thank you...we appreciate the comment!!
I´M IN LOVE with this beast!! 🤩I was very touched by your and the owner's emotions when you spoke about your dads. Thanks for sharing ❤
Kudos to that dude for allowing you to touch his soul. Thank you ol boy. Dope ride. Thank you ma'am for the video and for not letting him down or falling short. Don't touch the flower!!!! Godspeed.
Thank you...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
I absolutely love people that isn't afraid to reimagine the looks of an old classic. And actually drive it.
The look may not be for everyone, but it doesn't really matter if you like it. As long as he does. 👍
Nothing but respect from me. 🙌
Nothing but respect from me as well. What a beautiful machine.
Awesome....we appreciate that! Thank you for watching!
Built, not bought. Respect.
"The look may not be for everyone"??
Yeah, no its not. But that also means that the owner prefers the adulterated look over the original look, so what are they even doing with the car in the first place? It shouldn't be in their possession.
If it was such a rare car then he should of sold it and found a non-push button car.
@@JoshPhoenix11 Relax. It's not that rare a car. Let the man do his thing.
It is His car! Does what he wants to with it. That’s awesome! You also have a great knack for finding not only the car but cool owners as well.
Thank you...glad you enjoyed watching!!
Nicole's emotions and enthusiasm in her videos is always so pure and realistic ❤ That's why I always love watching her videos ❤️
I grew up in a 351 Cleveland household back in the early 70's. My Dad drove a 74 Ranchero and my mom drove a 73 Gran Torino Sport, both with Cleveland's, and my dad had a pair of 71 Mustangs, a Mach 1 and a Boss. The next progression after the Boss would be a Pantera and that's why I have always wanted one. And the history behind why Ford made this car makes it extra special.
The sound of that beast... being in the seat when it's roaring has got to feel awesome. Fantastic episode, love that you don't shy away from showing those emotional moments.
Thank you so much for watching...we appreciate it!!

Wow! Being in that Pantera must've brought back a lot of memories for you Nicole.
This is a mad max car but exquisitely built. ❤
That car is nothing like the original, it is exactly how I’d picture a modern Pantera to be. Love it.
Totally. Think about Corvette though. Today's Corvette bears no resemblance to the original car. In that context, this Pantera is much closer to the original car 🙂
Thank you...we're glad you like it!!
This the gmg pantera and ring bros pantera are all much more modern takes on a stunning classic!
The pantera reminds me of the ww2 P-51 with a Merlin and the a.c. cobras. Sometimes it's a melding of tech that produces=icons! 😎
The flower teared me up a bit. I also carry a pink flower on the roll cage of my '86 Ramcharger, the truck the wife and I took on our honeymoon. The flower is one that I saved from her final resting place. The old RC has a special place in my heart, and rebuilding it over the last four years helped keep me sane during that very trying time.
She's the one that named the truck 'ol Bumpy, and that will get lettered into the pinstripe when the fresh paint goes on. Attachments to vehicles is something non car people will never get. Even some car people don't get it I suppose. But enough of that. Great episode as always Nicole and crew. And a fantastic build Shad, well done.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching!! Thank you for the comment. We're sorry for the loss of your wife. You're honoring her memory in a beautiful way and that will be with you forever!!
That's got to feel great to feel your Dad with you at this time. My Dad was a car guy. He had a Vette he did shows in Fla. He passed about 10 years ago. I haven't watched a race since he died. So I understand. Keep doing what you do. I'm sure he's proud of all you accomplish. I'm jealous because not only do you get to ride in them. You get to drive them. Love your energy and your videos.
This car is absolutely stunning and built by a brilliant man! A very emotional and touching episode Nicole! Thank you so much for this. Your dad is watching you from above and super proud!
I just realized that I was grinning through the whole video! Once again, Nicole, thanks for taking us along for the ride. Shad - you're as amazing as NOTYCAT!
That's awesome....we're so glad you enjoyed it!!
That motor is a masterpiece.
Glad you like it!!
As a car guy... would have enjoyed a little more detail on the motor build and actual performance numbers.
I choked up when he recalled the time his then six year old daughter put the flower on his dash. He teared up too. You know he is a great dad. I
Love the sound, love the stance, fun purchase story. What really sets this one apart is/are the emotions you both have concerning this car and what it represents to you. Beautiful.💯
Such an exceptional episode of NJ's Detour! The meaningful back story of the Pantera to both Nicole and the owner was phenomenal. Strange how an Inanimate object such as a car can have such life-long meaning and yet, so many of us have similar connections. This was not really a Pantera as much as a future heirloom... I have seen this car up close and personal a number of times and sadly the images seen here simply do not do it justice. It is way wider, way lower and way LOUDER then video could possible relay. It is pretty much the only car that scared me just being near it. I was once driving my Renault R5 Turbo in a caravan of cars from San Diego to San Clemente to attend a car show. NOTYCAT was in our group. I was driving next to him when he gave it the foot... he left me like he was a time traveler.
Nicole what incredible emotion you display in this episode. Your love for cars is clearly anchored in what you experienced growing up and this pantera clearly unlocked your memories and emotions. Great episode.
Thank you...I appreciate that!! Glad you enjoyed watching!
You both show that you guys are very human in this video, The very emotions that fly through my heart and soul when you both talk about family, and then drive the very top notch car best one I ever saw!!! ❤❤❤ Thank you both so very kindly for sharing this beautiful video with us all involved. We appreciate it very very greatly thank you!
Awesome video. You could see how special this was for her. Now this is a car with heart and sole. You could see how much love and care was put into it.
My dad also had a '71 or '72 DeTomaso. It was white and the engine deck was black. It was one of the best-sounding stock cars I ever heard.
13:40 DeTamoso's would feel like the front end was driving on ball bearings at 140 mph.

The best part was your conversation sitting in the car before starting the drive. I totally get this guy's motivation in building the car and I love Nicole's emotional connection with the car. I appreciate the work he went through to get the car to sound the way it does, that doesn't just happen by accident. When Nicole was riding shotgun she reminded me of her mother when she took her for a ride on the autocross course - do you have more sympathy for your mother now? Creations like this one are truly a window into the soul of the builder and your appeal to the true car folks out there. Mad props!

Love more than humanly possible❤🔥
Awesome!! We appreciate that...glad you enjoyed watching!!
BRAVO!!!
I've always been infatuated with these! I LOVE that he kept the 351C, which was a better runner. I can appreciate all of the personal "engineering" with help from some big name companies. The Inconel exhaust was probably VERY EXPENSIVE, considering that's what Indycar and F1, at least used to use.I can also appreciate the sentiment with the flower. My youngest daughter has taken to my obsession, in the last couple of years, she's 15 now. So we need a father/daughter build! I think she's leaning towards a pickup. She also loves mustangs and broncos so time and budget will tell the tale. I'm glad she had a personal connection as well. Made the whole video personal for many people! 🥲
The car that made me a car guy was the 1978 corvette anniversary addition . This Pantera has made me a big fan.
Super Gnarly build! The owner did not hold back.

I was expecting a Pantera review. Instead, I got an emotional roller-coaster that just blew me away. Pure car nerd emotional wonderfulness. What a beautiful piece of art. My eyes also leaked.
I had a buddy in high school whose sister dated a guy that had a Pantera. So every once in awhile my buddy got to drive it. We drove from Beaumont California to Palm Springs one day. Passing cars like they were stopped on the freeway. Got lucky and didn’t see one CHP and there were 109 of them stationed in Beaumont then. Our lucky day and the ride of my life for sure. My buddy has passed away now. My friend for over fifty years. 👍

Raw emotions that exceeded seeing this car in person in the show lineup at South Orange County Cars and Coffee, San Clemente. My favorite and next: please find the Kill Bill 2 Mangusta de Tomaso. It is well kept in Fallbrook, CA . My most favorite amazing " Movie Show Car. " The idea of family legacy: Strong love that endures. May our memories be a blessing. Thank you to Shad, Nicole, Crew and the Family. Blessing us all with ideas of sharing. The owner, driver, passenger, and the viewing enthusiasts, are all different roles to be engaged and tried. Nicole gave Shad so many new insights. Shad's perspective was gained from only Nicole, a trusted professional driver. Nicole helped Shad see the car through the children's eye. What an awakening for us all to recall our childhood memories of the Lincoln Mercury Pantera dealer and the appreciation of de Tomaso craftsmanship. Bravo, Encore, Andiamo!!!
That is BAD ASS! I LOVE IT! I totally dig how he repurposed things like the muffin tins and spoiler, I always repurpose things . You getting your car there and him keeping his daughter's flower on the dash and his intense reaction filled with so much love, I totally can feel you guys! I'm a dad and love my kids very very much! My people are all no longer living here in the dimension we are in but I know they are not gone and have made their presence known to me. You having the reaction you did showing the love for your dad, that was awesome! Speaking of Dad's and love, I need to get back to my daughter about a vehicle she wanted my advice on and why I ended up here on your video because it was next to okay after the video of the Toyota I was looking into for her lol... Thanks for sharing! ❤️
