Nothing shows the collapse of our modern capitalist economy like the spiking housing and car prices its so unbearable!!! Whenever i listen to these guys or really any early 90s-2000s media talk about pricing i can see why culture seemed much more cheerful back then compared to universal cynicism nowadays The craziest thing i have learned honestly is that luxury and supercar werent always synonymous and you could actually purchase like a cool Italian supercar for completely reasonable sums, like wow did the global economy go down the shitter post 2008 and especially post covid lol
To see Jeremy laughing out loud with a bucket of water on his lap… and now top gears been cancelled and the grand tour has ended… nothing will ever be as good as these old episodes… thanks for posting it…😀😊😍
3:25 ~ 3:31: * Guy with Speedometer (reading James' Jag): "Error....." * Jeremy: "What do you mean 'error'?" * Richard: "He'll never do that again!" * Jeremy: "Why does that never happen with the police!?!" That conversation always cracks me up! 😂🤣😂🤣
that bit there just gives a clear picture that behind the scenes, they all laughed their arses off every time. It really was a playground for that crew!
James should have been given minus 140 points for the speed challenge because, his speed didn't actually get recorded. I'm puzzled by Richard's car doing 110 mph and the radar picking up 115 mph. That would lead me to believe either his speedo is out or the radar is wrong.
This is the first Top Gear episode I remember watching, on the 29th May, 2005, at the age of 12, in a hotel room with my parents while on holiday in Portsmouth.
Probably my favorite cheap car challenge. It all just seemed so genuine, from the laughs to the car choices to the challenges themselves. Where does the time go man?
He’s not wrong. I think a Jag V12 holds like either 10L or 10q but something like that, and you only need about 5 or 6. Most cars only ever have about 4-5 to begin with.
To me, it shows how important the original editing was, the entire experience goes from 10/10 to 7/10 just because they swapped the music (and sloppily re-edited it)
Home from work, wifes gone to work, left me some Tatty Ash and some crusty bread and i turn the TV YT on to this, absolute GEM an early TG Cheap Car Challenge & as i sat down i said i was first to arrive
I bought a 924 in 1995 (it was 13 years old at that time) for £2000. Ran it until 2003 putting 60,000 more miles on the clock then sold it for £500 to the mechanic who had looked after it since I had bought it. We were both very happy with the deal as he was going to keep it in his centrally heated garage whilst he restored it in his retirement. 20+ years on I wonder if it is still around?
When I was around 12-13, our next door neighbor had a white Conquest TSi, manual…. Loved the dash and interior. There was just something about its stance and dimensions…. Great presence.

I've so many cars in my life i cant even remember what i did with it. did i sell it? give it away to a friend or family? i just cant remember! Cool Story, I went to a Wedding in Mexico with it. about 3am after many hours of dancing and drinking i decided to head beck to the next town where my gran lived. I drove flat out the whole 20 miles. Fastest it would go was about 135MPH. I could see the digital engine temp pips on dash go up 1 by one every few minutes lol! What a great memory, underrated car for sure.
I like to think i had most of the Top Gear Challenge Compilation DVDs though this one wasnt on any that i purchased,so im thankfull for posting even if in part. Do recall seeing The Stig throw his hands up in the Jag when it was on tv and of course the curves in the background on the alpine course were where Daniel Craig's Aston Martin were rolled in his first Jamed Bond outing of Casino Royale many years later, and the lorrying challenge 😊
My boss back in the 90s had a XJS V12, he used to keep five litre containers of oil in the rear footwells, he had a parking space right out front of the office block with his name on it, when he was out it was always fun to see late visitors rush across the car park and nearly slip on the oil slick in his parking spot, some even used to hop over it.

Probably a mustang. Was it ever a coupe? xD
I’d almost certainly regret it but give me the XJS

It's a different world now.
Remember when he got the car for £1. The government was literally spending money on scrapping cars which didn't deserve it, when so many could have been saved.
How is it different. You can pick up a boxster for 3000£ which adjusted for inflation isn’t more expensive than this
@horvathr95 You are not getting a 2010 boxster for 3 grand.
@@nickrulez809765 Ok and why do you need a 2010 specifically? Look at 986 Boxster prices

Kit cars are our only hope. Some of them blokes are after performance. Me? Im fine with looks alone.
I found ten XJSs, two 635s, and twelve Starions under that price. Some of them looked at least as good as those.
Also. Inflation.... 1500 is probably around 3000 in today's money
Adjust the price for inflation you dope

Yea. the budget was a lot smaller and wasn't as high paced as today shows are. much better.
Very nicely put, the exact sentiment I have. TG of that era calms my nerve and helps me sleep.
It shows that current cars are too fast and complicated
