Stephen Grunge cool music video. At one point, Warner Brothers had Seal appear and sing in music videos for songs for their movies. And the songs were great. The visuals were awesome that matched his vocals. For reference, I am talking about both “Kiss From A Rose” from Batman Forever (1995) and “Fly Like An Eagle” from Space Jam (1996).

After finding out that Joel Schumacher passed away I had to come back here to watch someone give this movie its due.
The man managed to combined 90's edge with Adam West level ham and cheese and somehow make those elements enhance each other. B&R went off the rails trying but Forever hits that balance far more than it misses.
Kilmer manages to strike a perfect balance between serious and campy in a way that feels totally in character the whole time, serious but more than able to crack a joke without it feeling out of character. Very much like Bruce Timm's version of the character in that regard. The darkness is there but so is the humanity and you can see the struggle the character lives with every day, without the movie needing to go into melodrama to sell it.
His neon soaked Gotham is likewise something that doesn't work on paper but came out iconic.
Different movie but his send off to Michael Gough as Alfred in B&R is legitimately moving and far better than a serious plot in such a campy movie has any right to be.
Hats off you Vee for giving this movie some much deserved praise at the risk of pissing off the internet.

Superman Returns should have had the character being killed by Dooms Day instead of having him being just in space. Lex should have found a way to imprison doomsday and without Superman metropolis would slowly becoming like Gotham. Corrupt cops and the citizens losing hope. Then have Superman revived and try to fix everything. He pushes Luther so hard he has to release a controlled Doomsday on him. Superman eventually overpowers Doomsday and kills him out of desperation. Then we have a brainiac cameo in the end.

I’ve always thought Kilmer’s Batman was underrated. He makes for a great Bruce Wayne, not my favorite Batman but his voice is up there with Keaton’s when it comes to live action movies (because the #1 is obviously Conroy). My thoughts are still the same on the movie, because it’s really the “average tier” Batman movie, in a sense that it’s not even a bad movie but it’s not up there with Batman 1989 or the Dark Knight trilogy. It’s only one of the worst by default because many other Batman movies are just so great.

5:30 Couldn't agree more. It is my favorite look, and I love how instead of just being good vs evil, it's order vs chaos, that is something that i really think is incredibly intelligent and inspired. The non-scarred side looks bland, like something a normal person would wear, while the scarred side looks incredibly outlandish and over the top. The order side blends in while the chaos side stands out. Perfect symbolism and a design I want to see more of in the future.

This movie really isn’t that bad, Batman and Robin is so bad it’s entertaining now...these movies have the tone they do because Batman Returns. In Batman Returns you only see Batman for like 20-25 minutes of the whole film and I think McDonald’s was pissed because they had to make happy meals out of that movie. The studio and parents were upset that the Penguins whole plan in Batman Returns was to murder the first born children of Gotham, and as a kid being the first born in my family i remember it freaked me out a little that I would be the one who gets taken, although Batman saving me would have been worth it.

Not a huge fan of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, honestly. He captured the suited hero Spider-Man pretty well (in spite of the questionable character decisions by the writers), but I just couldnt really buy him as Peter Parker. Peter was always supposed to be something of an dork before he became Spider-Man (and often remains an endearing dork to some extent afterwards when out of suit, though this varies from version to version) while Garfield's Peter Parker comes off as a bit too alpha and confident from the get-go

Yeah, didn't know what they were trying to do. Also, the casting of Jones, I mean come on....
Maybe Jones could have pulled Two-Face of if Batman was made in the early 80s. But in 1995, I wouldn't see him in the role, because people seem to forget how Bruce and him are very close friends. I believe there was one comic where they met in college. And casting a 49-year old Jones with a 36-year old Kilmer would make no sense. A 2-6 year difference feels more reasonable. In my opinion, some good alternates for Harvey/Two-Face can be, Kyle MacLachlan (look no further than Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks), Alec Baldwin (Hunt For Red October and Glengarry Glen Ross), or Dennis Quaid (watch him in The Big Easy). Were those guys unavailable?

The best family friendly Batman movie ever made!!! It was the first Batman movie I ever saw as a kid!! Man, I have such good memories with this film due to the fact I was a massive Jim Carey fan!!! Also it has one of the BEST MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS IN HISTORY!!! Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me By U2. WHAT A TUNE!!! Also Kiss From a Rose By Seal was it solidified it as an All Time Top Ten Movie Soundtrack. You could argue that it was one of those things in which the soundtrack is better than the movie!!! July 1995!!! As it was released later over here in the UK. Man this movie so HYPED!! Fond Childhood Memories!!! 😄👏🏾👌🏾👍🏾💯

I don't hate fans of this movie, just the movie itself because it took what Tim Burton and Michael Keaton achieved by making Batman relevant as a serious character in the public's conscious after the camp tv show (which I loved as a kid) only to abandon that progress and end up killing the character until Nolan reintroduced Batman again with a respectful serious take. If not for the success of Blade in 1998, comic book films might still be a dead genre and if you were to track down the moment that nearly caused that film genre to go the way of the Dodo, it all traces back to Batman Forever.

When it comes to Batman movies, Joel Schumacher's are probably the best ones to show kids who are getting into Batman for the first time. Tim Burton's films are extremely graphic, especially when you see Batman brutality killing Joker and Penguin's goons throughout the first two films. Christopher Nolan's films are just incredibly real, like could you imagine showing a kid the scarecrow or joker tape segments in the first two Dark Knight films? I absolutely love all of the live action films. But every single one of them has something different and unique to that version of Batman.

Best Batman portrayal. Dark Knight was amazing, best DC film ever. Top 5 all time superhero film. But thats because of everything around Batman. In Dark Knight, Batman himself was meh. Val Kilmer was by far the best Batman and Bruce Wayne portrayal.

I have this thing about Batman actors: many have played a good Batman, many have played a good Bruce Wayne, very few have done both (referring to live-action adaptations). I've always put Val Kilmer into the "good Bruce Wayne, bad Batman" category, but watching these clips have changed my mind a bit. I love both sides, especially his Batman voice, successfully unrecognizable but it sounds like it could be someone's naturally speaking tone. I think if he had gotten more than one movie, we would regard it a lot higher now than we usually do. It's like he was just good enough that we don't need to talk about him (opposed to Clooney, who was infamously bad)

Finally I watched this movie and man... Val Kilmer was great. I think maybe he is the best live action Batman for me now, he acted exactly like Kevin Conroy Batman in Animated Series and Troy Baker Batman in Telltale Games (two best versions of Batman for me) and... With his first suit in the movie, he looks perfect for me. Not like commando type Bale or big bulky Affleck. One little think that scratch my head... Why Val don't dye hair black?
Seriously It's a shame that he don't have more movies with him as a Batman, he act exactly like Bruce and Bats should do taking example from the comics. And with scene I see was deleted with Man Bat... Brilliant.

Robin always sucks but i like him older at least like you said. This has always been my second favorite Batman film. The Batman is my first, then this. Thats the best Jim Carrey could've done with what they were asking for, and Val Kilmer nailed the bravado and depth required to be Bruce, but his portrayal of Batman was the most solid I've ever seen. Tommy Lee Jones was a great two-face and he hit the notes perfectly. This is truly underrated.

As a young kid this was my favorite Batman movie... even now I’d probably rank it as my 4th favorite live action version of bats I love it so much. Mostly for sharing my opinion on Two-Face. Yes he isn't accurate to his comic portrayal and yes Tommy Lee Jones would have worked greatly based on his other roles; but damn If I don't love him for seeing TLJ break character. He also feels like the Two-Face we'd have gotten in the 60s with how over-the-top his gimmick is here. And works well with Riddler who is very much inspired by Gorshwin as you point out.

I highly recommend people check out "superhero things you should know's" series deep diving into this movie. Turns out, had they just made the original screenplay as it was originally written, it would have been the best Batman movie of the series by FAR... There's even supposedly an early cut of the film that includes almost 20 minutes of additional scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor that shore up all the plot holes, clarify the motivations of Ed Nygma, two face, even Chase Meridian, AND even gives Bruce/Batman an arc! What a concept! #ReleaseTheSchumakerCut
