    Loved the idea of a “broken” Batman. One who lost his way as alluded to by Alfred a few times. We’re led to believe that he didn’t always kill, and wasn’t always such a loose cannon, but 20 years of broken promises, losses, and betrayals made him into the Batman we saw in BvS.
    I agree it was the material that let Ben down, but the biggest issue is he didn’t get a solo movie before BvS. Imagine seeing a solo film where Robin is alive and is Batman’s last thread to his moral codes. We see Robin killed by the Joker in the climax and Batman looses it. Then in the post credits scene we see the opening of BvS with Bruce running through the Metropolis wreckage. That would have set the audience up for a better understanding of where this Batman is at come BvS , and would give characters like Gordon more screen time.

      I'd have the murder of Robin be like the cold open of bens solo batman movie I'd have it take place after man of steel but before BVS have deathstroke as the villain etc but I'd have it be more a character study of a broken batman then the post credit I'd have him watching footage of Superman

    • @dcworld4349
      @dcworld4349 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@ryankeefe2102 Some people would have been mad, but Robin getting killed by Deathstroke would have set the tone and also made his death and Bruce's head space make a bit more sense. Because why would this Batman not have killed the Joker after he killed Dick Grayson, when he has zero problems with killing. In BvS he stops himself from killing Superman with the intention being that he was realizing that he was becoming just like Joe Chill by breaking his no kill rule. Yet minutes afterwards he kills at least half of the people in that warehouse.
      It's not that I can't accept that you have a Batman who doesn't have the no kill rule, The Batman is actually the first live-action version in modern times that establishes that he never goes that far. The problem however is, it makes no sense why he would let the Joker live in this universe. Or why was it okay to kill a bunch of Lex's thugs, but not Lex himself? I know Snyder's argument is he won't go out of his way to kill people, it's more that he accepts that collateral damage during a fight including death is part of the job, a sort of cop or solider mentality to being in a combat scenario. Yet he's got a guy nailed to a wall at the end of the fight and it's implied he kills him for stabbing him. Then instead of shooting KBG's hands like what happens in the dark knight returns, he shoots the tank and blows up the room.
      And I am saying all this as a huge Batfleck fan who while I really do love The Batman, the biggest disappointment is that we are never going to get the Batman VS Deathstroke movie. When written at his best, he's the closest we have gotten to Bat-god, the man who you understand why even though he's not the leader of the Justice League, everyone looks for him to strategize in battle. Often to find out he has given himself one of the hardest jobs in secret. Still holding out hope that one day DC decides to let them do it as an animated movie, maybe even finish out the original plans for the Justice League. The normal budget for the movies they are making now is about 5 million from what I've heard, give it 10 million and there are enough Snyderverse fans to make a small profit from doing it.

    • @dcworld4349
      @dcworld4349 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DanielTorres-pw8il Are you seriously suggesting that people need an origin movie for Batman and Superman? Even people who haven't seen the movies, shows or even read the comics knows the basic origin.
      People barley want origin movies for characters that they know nothing about because the formula became too repetitive. So they have started to find clever ways of starting their stories in the second act of their life. With some origin sprinkles to get you caught up.
      The DCU is going to have to eat crow no matter what for it's first phase in terms of box office. It won't be until they show that they can release quality movies and shows in a row for the first part of the Gods and Monsters act that they will actually start to hit the respectable 700-800 million dollar range maybe by the end of it. Brave and Bold might hit 700 dollars but that is just because it's Batman.
      And I say this as a hardcore DC fanboy who have enjoyed a lot of what DC has done in the last 10 years. But recognize that they fumbled the ball in a way I didn't think could be possible considering all they had to do was slam dunk inside a hoop that was the same height as a toddler.

    Nice video, IMHO Batfleck deserved a solo movie, even if I adored Battinson's "The Batman" I still wish get had gotten at least one Batfleck... the Deathstroke story was promising, and Slade looked badass.
    It could have also given Joker a chance to have a more flattering DCEU legacy than a butchered, messy cut of poor Ayer's Suicide Squad, and _one_ good scene in JL Snyder's cut.
    Based on that scene, I wish we could have seen more of Leto's Joker; just get rid of the face tattoos, he can keep the others but just like in his last scene in JL, just remove the ones on his face and I'm actually good with his design. Somewhat.
    Anyway, just a nitpick, but about Aquaman using Bruce's name in public...
    Hasn't it been established in the tavern scene that most of them don't understand English? Which is weird IRL, since almost everyone speaks English in Iceland, but well, it's a very remote village full of old timers, so it's believable that they don't interact with strangers often, and wouldn't have the need to speak English to do business or to welcome tourists, and it's the Earth from DC where countries like Kahndag and Vlatava exist, so other countries are slightly different.
    Plus, they're past the age of learning English via shitposting on 4chan, and binging a bunch of HBO shows
    (And sure, the name "Bruce Wayne" sounds the same no matter where you're from, but it's much harder to catch names when you're tuning your brain to "gibberish" instead of hearing it in a context that makes sense)
    And JK Simmons as Jim Gordon is in my top 3 reasons why I'm still bitter about *Batgirl* being cancelled. He is probably in a bunch of scenes, since his daughter is in the name of the movie...
    (and sure, Brendan Fraser as Firefly probably kicks ass... and reason 3, Killer Moth makes his second live action appearance in that film, and we can't watch it... dang it. It will eventually leak I suppose, but meanwhile I shall complain )
    Keep up the good work, Vee!

    The problem to me was what Snyder tried to do with Batman, his age and part of the story were "The Dark Knight Returns" while the rest is a combination of "Worlds Finest" and "Death of Superman"; if it was just an adaptation of "DKR" could have been fine, but with the other ideas, doesn't work too well. If Affleck was younger when doing this and no DKR it could have been better.

    While I agree with the first part of this video, I will argue about people having complains that Batfleck uses guns and does things a Batman never should do. I would say it is not a bug, but a feature. I always felt that Batman in BvS was supposed to be anti-thesis of Batman. There is famous quote from Nietzsche "Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you." and Batman in BvS is the monster (hence I always assumed that capture of Deadshot happened before BvS). I always felt that either Snyder or Warner Bros. chicken out and it should be Batman to do the killing blow on Superman, just for dying Sups, on his last breath try to save Batman/Wonder Woman/Louis/Martha/humanity/Earth etc.
    There was another video on TH-cam, I don't remember the author, who said that in BvS Batman is not Batman anymore, while Superman is not Superman yet. Just imagine that before BvS there was a movie with already broken, but still functioning Batman, where Robin urges Batman to kill the villains, so the problem will be solved once and for all, and Batman clinging with his fingertips onto his morality refuses, and eventually Robin is brutally murdered by someone that Batman had opportunity to kill at the beginning of movie and Robin urged Batman to do so. And then the movie could end with the opening scene of BvS where Bruce sees the City destroyed by Superman.

    there are LOADS of times batman has used guns, even in recent adaptations of the character. Albeit he seemingly wouldnt aim a gun at people unless they were impervious to bullets, or used the guns in other fashions/safe ammunition. In batman no.259 bruce reveals to the SHADOW (which batman was based off of originally in the detective comics) why Bruce is scared of gun fire. Shortly before his parents were murdered, he witnessed when the Shadow prevented a robbery, and Bruce was traumatized by the gunfire from BOTH incidents. int his issue shadow attempts to give batman a gun multiple times but bruce refuses. It wasnt until issue no.457 (198 comics later) that they fully fleshed out the backstory about tom and martha, and was also the issue they added Laslie Thompkins, who was pretty much erased from batman history by the Post-crisis/new earth continuity.

    This might be a hot take. Ben affleck, is a good actor, very good actor, the town was one of his best. Him as batman is good on paper, the looks, the bruce Wayne. But where it falls short is zach Snyders misunderstanding of the 4 comics he read for the movie. If he didnt completely butcher batman, he wouldve been one of the best, but if zach would've been smart and leaned into "this batman is different" this batman kills, he is completely different than comic book batman, or if he was blatantly a "different" batman, i think it would've been better and taken better by the fans. Zach Butchered the character whilst trying to play him off as the comic bruce, if he wouldve been clear about this batman being different than it would have been swallowed alot better.

    Is this a Batman who DISCOVERED empathy and compassion late in the game, or a Batman who HAD those things earlier on but lost them when he lost Robin and rediscovers them here?
    Also: I kinda get Batman's sense of humor in these films. YOU get introduced to the concept of world-ending aliens, then suddenly discover that your theories about metahumans is correct and suddenly meet a superhumanly-fast speedster, a real live merman without the fins, a literal Greek war goddess, and a young Terminator-wannabe mere days after not only coming to terms with the concept of alien life being real (and looking/acting just like us), but watching the first known alien lifeform dying right in front of you.
    Eventually, part of your mind is going to shrug it all off and go, "F*ck it, whatever. I'm snarking my way through all this."

But he also had the right height and build to be an intimidating Batman too. Probably the most physically imposing on screen Batman, ever. I think he was just cast in mediocre DC films which robbed him of the opportunity to truly shine in the role. Ben could've been the greatest onscreen Batman

      Snyder gave him a very shallow portrayal. I usually don't like referring to other videos, but The Closer Look gave by far the most comprehensive break down on what was wrong with Snyder's Batman: he doesn't exude enough of Batman's best characteristics to justify the character as Batman, appearance not withstanding. His compassion and intellect (like holy shit how do you fuck this up) just didn't receive enough justice, even though they're such integral parts ti his character. Then of course, Snyder's complete disregard for his moral code. Look, you can make your own version of grimdark edgelord Batman and have it work, but you need a damn good fucking reason beyond "muh realism muh edgy tone". Frank Miller's Batman stories worked because he handled this aspect of the Bat with the gravitas and respect it deserved: if you're going to make Batman kill someone, make it fucking matter. Don't just say "dude he went through sone shit bro" and have him mow down droves of petty criminals just to look cool, you need show the audience the justification for getting him to that point. Literally one of the most important rules to good fiction is "show, don't tell".

      "I failed him in his life. I will not fail him in his death." It was the fact that an alien was willing to sacrifice his life to save the world that reminds Bruce why he started doing this in the first place. It's why he makes the comment to Alfred that, for the first time in his life, he is going on faith. This shows comment was really meant to cement the fact he was not the same Bruce we saw through most of BvS.
