Mac I have a feeling this was primarily written with some improve, because Mark did have to learn this. So I could see Guthrie writing this out, but ad libbing some of the faster runs
+sanesanchezs Just like Erised's final solo... gotta love Petrucci. But Misha isn't bad tho and you should REALLY give Mark Holcomb some credit aswell.
I didn't realize how good Misha has gotten until I heard Absolomb off PIII. I figured it was Mark or they had another guest soloist. Nope. That solo is outstanding..
Back in the day, and still in Blues and Jazz, people wouldn't play the same solo twice. Guthrie certainly wouldn't play it exactly like that again if he had to perform it, and of course there would be nothing wrong if Mark improvised his own solo in a live performance.
Guthrie has such a recognisable playstyle... I heard this solo for the first time and first thing i thought was that it sounds just like Guthrie only to find out later that it was actually him :D
There used to be a video (maybe on Periphery's official channel?) of Guthrie playing this, but it's disappeared. I remember very clearly him slapping the tremelo bar to get the rapid zooming sound near the end.
ZtlaMusic Appreciate it! It still eludes me, I still can't to do it with anything close to the flair and style Guthrie does...but that's true of everything he does.
Govan recorded the single, Mark plays it live as well as Petrucci recorded the single end of erised, on the disc come the credits. lol x 1000000000000000 jajajaa
I didn't know this was Guthrie, but now I've heard it it really couldn't be anyone else
I know. Especially that little twiddly descending bendy lick about three quarters through, such a Govanism.
@@neighbourhoodmusician and the tap and slide thing at 0:55 he has incorporated in recent years. Govanesque 😊
I bet he just improv'd this in one take. Unbelievable
+Mac He's mentioned that improv was a big factor in recording some of The Aristocrats stuff

That isn't Guthrie's lead style, not a first take, but definitely not composed in any significant way.
HaNdYmAn 420: piece of... erotic cake
It's definitely played like it's improvised. I like to pretend everything is.
When I first heard this song, I immediately fell in love with the solo. That's when I realized it wasn't Misha behind it.
+sanesanchezs Just like Erised's final solo... gotta love Petrucci. But Misha isn't bad tho and you should REALLY give Mark Holcomb some credit aswell.
+MeAndThatGuyXD Don't forget Jake!
I didn't realize how good Misha has gotten until I heard Absolomb off PIII. I figured it was Mark or they had another guest soloist. Nope. That solo is outstanding..
whats the matter with misha? the dudes in periphery can deffinetly play and have written some killers solos
It's not that Misha or Mark are worse. It's just that you can hear and feel Guthrie's groove in every of his song so distinctly.
I feel bad for whoever in periphery had to learn that one and play it live XD
mark had to, he said it really sucked cuz he couldn't play it lmao
Funny because they’ve mentioned they don’t play this and also mile zero live because they’re not comfortable playing the solos
Cletus Marbury and then they play blood eagle live and act like the solos nothing lol
Back in the day, and still in Blues and Jazz, people wouldn't play the same solo twice. Guthrie certainly wouldn't play it exactly like that again if he had to perform it, and of course there would be nothing wrong if Mark improvised his own solo in a live performance.
@@Ja-mbi Jake has Mile Zero Down now, saw them a while back at the NorVa!
one day ill find a video of guthrie himself playing this
It'd be fantastic! I hope it just exists.
I love that thing he does at 54 seconds, lol
mr t Agrees :) didn't even need to check first, I knew exactly which part that was.
be/4V4SnFE_8Ms?t=5m44s Welcome
Guthrie has such a recognisable playstyle... I heard this solo for the first time and first thing i thought was that it sounds just like Guthrie only to find out later that it was actually him :D
The Guitar god plays Metal song!
I instantly love Guthrie and Periphery and this song even more!!!! Wow
A masterpiece. So much feeling he is putting into!
so that's why that little lick at 0:54 sounded so familiar! he does the same thing in the dance of the aristocrats.
also uses in watchmaker
“Blistering reality imagining a world in liiiiimelight” 🖤
i thought this solo was kind of guthrie-
ish now i know
There used to be a video (maybe on Periphery's official channel?) of Guthrie playing this, but it's disappeared. I remember very clearly him slapping the tremelo bar to get the rapid zooming sound near the end.
0:45 you will realize if this guthrie govan
Definitely Marigold's riff was inspiried by this
This song is a banger.
Lol I even said to myself this is totally GG, but it couldnt be.. cant relate these two.. well well well
I never expected to hear Guthrie at all in an emo song
Man this album brings back a lot of memories..
...god?
That was Guthrie
How do you do the technique at 0:54? I know it's something got to do with tapping and sliding but can't figure it out exactly.
+Mac I think You can do it with the tremolo bar
I'm seven months late but I believe it's done by tapping every other note and sliding up to the same note in between with the left hand.
ZtlaMusic Appreciate it! It still eludes me, I still can't to do it with anything close to the flair and style Guthrie does...but that's true of everything he does.
Agustín Alvia nop!! You slide from anywhere to a note then tap te same note then slide again the tap again... and so on...
You can see the tecnique in the video called Govan@CenterChitarre... it is based tapping and slide!!! :D
0:32 is the solo
0:32
I’m surprised this is Guthrie
No vale, Guthrie es dios T_______________T
Ohhhh so this is why I always felt this particular solo felt so out of character with the rest of the bandmembers!
vine aquí por magafi :v
Beto Vikernes ¡PINSHI PENDEJOOOOOO!
lol.... that solo played Mark Holcomb not Govan...........
+Fl4k Please do some search and stop saying "lol".
+Renoult Jonathan (Muchos) Ok i did some research, you are right (SR GUYS :p) i just thought that way cuz Mark always playing that solo...
Mark learned the solo. But Guthrie wrote it and played it on the record
Come on, it's clearly Govan..
Govan recorded the single, Mark plays it live as well as Petrucci recorded the single end of erised, on the disc come the credits. lol x 1000000000000000 jajajaa
song complete ?
Of course not!
Renoult Jonathan why ? =(
It's called Have a Blast by Periphery.
