Arm swing vs Body swing. Can we separate them?

    Just got back from the driving range and hit more good drives than I have ever hit. I've been hitting a slice for years and every now and then hit a good drive with no clue why. I played yesterday and hit me long irons better than I ever have , I was still struggling with my driver. I figured I was still releasing the driver to late so I went back to Marcus's YT channel and watched a few more videos with one talking about his grip. He said he uses a neural to weak grip and it helps his release. I changed to a weak grip and bingo, I'm just blown away. To anyone new to this channel who has watched the conventional way of teaching with it not helping you at all try Marcus's method!

      @@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I believe one of the problems I’m having with my release is not slowing the lead arm down enough to let the trail arm pass, do I need to get the feeling that my lead arm completely stops in the impact area to let my trail arm pass? If I set up at an impact bag and I try to stop the club and my hands as I hit into the bag, my lead arm at impact stops. Should I get that feeling letting the trail arm pass?

    • @GolfwithMarcusEdblad

      @@rickwilliams6922 I can’t recommend a feeling because it is so personal but we need to feel the relationship between our hands and when the trail hand overtakes the lead.

      I’m hitting it, at 56, better than 26 😂
      Stupid arm - lead arm for me..They removed some neck muscles which affected my lead arm. And, my swings improved.
      Thank you for teaching me how to follow through properly.
      I’ll be in touch. Hopefully meet in Sweden one day because I want to see you drive with a high draw over 300 yards. Effortlessly.

      Hi Jacko, I finished my Radiotherapy treatment for throat cancer a year ago on the 25th of July. The side effects are difficult, especially eating and drinking, but it does get easier. Keep hydrated, at times it will be hard but you will be given different techniques of swallowing water and protein shakes. If you are prescribed Morphine suspension for pain relief also get the laxative they offer you because it bungs you up. If you don’t have one get a PlayStation. That might sound daft, but at night when you can’t sleep it really took my mind off the discomfort,I recommend the Tiger Woods golf game. Stay strong and positive and you will get through it, Marcus is a shining example.

    Very true it all works together but I think it comes down to what each person feels is starting the downswing. For years I tried various body-led swings and inevitably I would end flying open and the hands & club being late and slicing. When I found your channel last fall, I started working on focusing on my hands being in the driver and the body just coming along for the ride. I've since had much better ball contact and notable distance increase even at my slower swing speed. Thanks again and welcome back!

    Marcus I totally agree with you. I tried the body swing and played the worst golf of my life for 2 1/2 years. Went from high 70s/low 80s to high 90s/100s. Plus I wrecked my back and had to rest a few days after every round of golf. I went all-in on the body swing too. Went to the 3day school in Las Vegas and subscribed to the website for access to instructional videos which included weekly tips. For me, it was the worst experience of my golfing life. I was about to quit the game. I finally resolved to go back to trusting my arms and hands and allowing my body to react. Now I’m back to low/mid 80s. Found your videos last year and totally agree with your teachings. I wish you all the best in your recovery and look forward to taking lessons when you’re back on Skillest

    Good to see you back. Yes, arms and body must be used together properly. In addition, doesn't the wrists even play a bigger role when trying to increase speed and accuracy. I find that unhinging the wrist quickly while increasing arm speed just before the bottom of the swing produces the best results.

He uses his lower body to then allow his arms to drop and then an l to l wrist hinge to square the club face. It works, but i find it hard to let the arms be so passive. I have skjnny legs and fast arms, so i use my arms more

    So I just reverted to an old school L to L swing thoughts that have increased my distance by almost 20yards per club. But I still need to sync up the body yet I'm not overthinking on how to move the body as it's doing this naturally.

    Welcome back Marcus🙏🏼 great video explaining how important the arms hands etc are. I been having a bad issue with the “PULL” shot. It starts left of target and goes approximately +- 10 yards further left. I really hate that shot. Could you please give me your thoughts and maybe a drill to get back to hitting more of a draw? Thank you for your videos👊🏻

      Hi George. You are missing the out part after the ball. When the club goes from the inside and to much back in instead of out and up that is the shot you get. It could also be effected by a ball position to far forward. That makes it hard to swing out.

    agree Marcus, we need both. What I still find remarkable in your swing is bending of the lead arm. If in the down swing it doesn't come straight at impact it cost speed and may cause a bad contact at. It is an extra variable, would it not be better to keep it straight in the up and down swing.?

    • @justthrowitgolf
      @justthrowitgolf 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      don't have to straighten it or keep it straight ..centrifugal force will naturally straighten it at impact without thought if you stop trying to control it .. hope u don't mind the input Marcus 🙏

    • @fransvandewiel
      @fransvandewiel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@justthrowitgolf well maybe that is true as long as lead arm is not pulling, but none of the pro's bend the lead arm. Furthermore the clubhead is not that heavy that it will generate so much force that it can compete with your arm muscles. I think it is not centrifugal force but timely release as Marcus mention causing straigtening of the lead arm

      @@fransvandewiel countless pros including me ( 30 year teaching pro) slightly bend our lead arm .. check out TH-cam maybe? and a swinging clubhead generates a tremendous centrifugal force if you let it .. key word here is let it .. not control it like you may suggest

      Hallo everyone. The key word is relaxed. Keeping anything straight will cost energy and I loose a lot of speed and I don't get a better impact. I want to create motion, not control motion and therefore I let my arm bend. I explain it more in this video:

    Personally I think the difference between "arm swing" and "body swing" is just a matter of semantics. Because if you get into the details of the proponents of each "type" of swing, they pretty much end up saying the same thing as each other--with the difference being mostly a golfer's thought process and where he places the most emphasis. I spent over 55 years swinging with my arms as fast as I could. And, while I could hit the ball relatively far, I had little idea where it was going. I discovered Paul Wilson about 10 years ago and have slowly switched my emphasis from the arms to the body. As a result I'm now a better golfer at age 85 than I ever was in my prime. And I miss very few fairways. Now if I only had a better short game!

      I'm glad you have found what you need. I also think that there are no one or the other but your own focus will determined what we use most. We all need to find our holy grail. 👍

    Arm swing vs. body swing is the final boss of understanding the golf swing. I’ve heard it referred to as pulling vs. throwing the club. I’m still not sure which one I use.

    • @GolfwithMarcusEdblad
      @GolfwithMarcusEdblad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Easier to throw with a slower body an easier to pull if your body rotates fast and leads. 👍
